Bennett was born with a disability that led to the amputation (截肢) of his foot when he was a baby, but the 55-year-old never let it hold back the pursuit of his passion: surfing. He has traveled the world surfing, making it to some of the most famous big wave surfing spots in places like Indonesia, Hawaii, Australia, and Portugal. He’s also represented his country in a para-surfing (残疾人冲浪) championship.
“The ocean is my happy place, ” said Bennett. “When I’m riding a wave, nothing else matters, nothing else is there — it is just me and that wave and feeling that glide and that ride. ”
He grew up a “water baby” and since his father was a big swimmer, the progression to surfing came naturally, despite his missing foot. For his whole adult life, Bennett has been at the crest (巅峰) of the wave of para-surfing, which has gone through a huge transformation.
The turning point came in 2015 when the International Surfing Association (ISA) hosted the first Para Surfing World Championship — bringing together surfers from all the nations. Since then, the sport has exploded in popularity with para-surfing, with its community becoming the fastest-growing part of the surfing world. Team England para-surfing team is now ranked seventh in the world, led by Bennett’s instruction and inspiration.
He explained that within the para-surfing community there are people with all kinds of disabilities. “I coached someone with brain diseases. I have got some blind guys that I coach, obviously some amputees, ” he said. “If somebody has got a disability and they want to get in the ocean and catch waves, I can make it happen. I don’t believe in barriers. I believe in we can do it. ”
24. What do we know about Bennett according to the passage?
A. His surfing career started at 55. B. He has won many championships.
C His father influenced his love for surfing. D. He lost his foot due to a surfing accident.
25. What was the significance of the first Para Surfing World Championship?
A. It welcomed disabled surfers. B. It offered funds for Bennett’s team.
C. It promoted para-surfing’s development. D. It was the first international surfing event.
26. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. Para-surfers’ hard work. B. Para-surfers’ challenges.
C. Bennett’s surfing achievements. D. Bennett’s coaching philosophies.
27. What message is conveyed through Bennett’s surfing experience?
A. Every man has his faults. B. All that shines is not gold.
C. Actions speak louder than words. D. The only limit is the one you set for yourself.

细节理解题。根据第三段“He grew up a “water baby” and since his father was a big swimmer, the progression to surfing came naturally, despite his missing foot. (他从小是“水宝宝”,父亲是个游泳健将,因此尽管缺少一只脚,他很自然地走上了冲浪之路。)”可知,Bennett的父亲是一位游泳健将,这使得他自然而然地接触到了冲浪,说明他父亲影响了他对冲浪的热爱。故选C项。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“The turning point came in 2015 when the International Surfing Association (ISA) hosted the first Para Surfing World Championship — bringing together surfers from all the nations. Since then, the sport has exploded in popularity with para-surfing, with its community becoming the fastest-growing part of the surfing world. (转折点出现在2015年,国际冲浪协会(ISA)举办了首届残疾人冲浪世锦赛,汇聚了各国的冲浪者。自那以后,残疾人冲浪运动迅速流行起来,其冲浪群体已成为冲浪界发展最快的领域。)”可知,第一届世界残疾人冲浪锦标赛的举办是一个转折点,此后这项运动受欢迎程度激增,这表明该赛事促进了残疾人冲浪运动的发展。故选C项。
【26题详解】
主旨大意题。根据最后一段“He explained that within the para-surfing community there are people with all kinds of disabilities. “I coached someone with brain diseases. I have got some blind guys that I coach, obviously some amputees, ” he said. “If somebody has got a disability and they want to get in the ocean and catch waves, I can make it happen. C (原创 文章选自高一群文阅读)
Many areas of the world suffer from low rainfall, and with climate change, a lack of water is increasingly becoming a problem in some places. So more and more people, companies and governments are now looking for ways to make houses completely self-sufficient in water — providing it and disposing of it themselves.
A typical example can be found in Gelup, a rural suburb 10 kilometres away from Bunbury, Australia. They do not have water supplied to them. Instead, water is collected on the roof and from the gutters and then channelled into underground pipes leading to a large water tank. From the tank the water is fed back to the house to supply all household needs from drinking to flushing toilets. At the end of rainy seasons, homeowners check the water level marked by the tank’s side indicator. A full tank means enough reserve for dry summers; otherwise, they must strictly save water, and a summer storm is always welcome in Gelup’s households, because it can lift the water level by 10 or 20 centimetres.
Used domestic water flows into an underground purification system. Natural bacteria clean the water underground, so residents avoid strong chemical cleaners. Since no water is pumped into or out of homes, local families pay no water fees.
Grey water accounts for up to 60% of the water used in a typical home, and in most houses, it is mixed with black water and sent to municipal water treatment plants as sewage. However, while grey water is not drinkable, it can be recycled. With water recycling systems, grey water is collected and purified to water gardens or flush toilets.
The process of treating and transporting water produces large amounts of carbon emissions. Therefore, widespread grey water recycling can radically cut environmental harm and ease global water shortage. Water recycling, it seems, must have an important place in our future.
28. What problem does the author point out in Paragraph 1?
A. Waste of fresh water globally.
B. Worsening water shortage due to climate change.
C. Poor local sewage treatment.
D. High cost of rain-collecting tanks.
29.What were Gelup’s local residents trying to realize?
A. Water self-sufficiency of their houses.
B. Selling stored rainwater for income.
C. Cutting sewage plant emissions.
D. Building large public water pools.
30.What can be inferred about grey water recycling?
A. It produces drinkable water directly.
B. It is eco-friendly and eases water shortage.
C. It costs too much for common families.
D. It has gained popularity in big cities.
31.Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Why Recycle Water?
B. What’s Next for Waste Water?
C. Where Is Our Tap Water From?
D. How to Cut Household Expenses?

30.答案:B
解析:推理判断题。根据最后一段 widespread grey water recycling can radically cut environmental harm and ease global water shortage 可推知,中水回收既环保,又能有效缓解水资源短缺问题。由第四段 while grey water is not drinkable 可知A项错误;C、D两项在原文中找不到依据。
31.答案:A

Dancing lowers the depression associated with Parkinson’s disease, and the benefits can be seen in multiple ways, a new study shows.
“It was very cool to see dance had a positive effect on the mood circuits in the brain, which we could see in the imaging from MRI brain scans (扫描),” says Joseph DeSouza, author of the study. “These improvements were also reported by the participants via survey. Our study is the first to demonstrate these benefits across these two detection methods.”
The study followed 23 participants with Parkinson’s disease from the Sharing Dance Parkinson’s program at Canada’s National Ballet School, along with family members or caregivers. Participants took weekly dance classes for 8 months, progressing from simple leg and foot work to more complex movements like waltzes and more. The research team focused on the subcallosal cingulate gyrus (SCG), a brain region linked to depression. They measured mood and depression before and after each class using the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) (老年抑郁量表) and conducted regular MRI scans.
The researchers found that after each dance class, reported depression rates dropped, and the effect was increasing from class to class, with significant improvements after 8 months. “We showed that SCG’s BOLD (blood oxygen level dependent) signal decreases while dancing, which means the SCG was not functioning as fast as it would if you had depression,” says DeSouza. “Parkinson’s disease is often accompanied by depression long before motor symptoms (症状) appear.”
Dance is thought to have a double benefit, with music activating the brain’s reward centers, and the movement acting on sensory and motor circuits. DeSouza, dancing with participants for 14 years, says that while dancing is not a treatment for Parkinson’s disease by itself, the benefits are clear. “We’re not trying to cure it with dance,” he says. “What we’re trying to do is to have people live a better quality of life. This goes for both the patients, and their families that take care of them.”
32. What do we know about the results of the two detection methods?
A. They fall short of expectations. B. They are more accurate than before.
C. They are distinct from each other. D. They show consistent conclusions.
33. How did the researchers conduct the study?
A. By referring to previous studies. B. By making pre-post comparisons.
C. By employing computer modeling. D. By conducting drug experiments.
34. What did the researchers find about the SCG?
A. It is in charge of motor system. B. It can be measured by the GDS.
C. Dancing slows down its functioning. D. Depression weakens its BOLD signal.
35. What is the best title of the text?
A. Dancing Away Parkinson’s Blues B. Dancing: Multiple Benefits To Be Seen
C. Dancing With Your Mood Circuits D. Dancing: A Journey To Mental Well-being

第二节(满分25分)(原创 来源一篇阅读理解)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Nupur walked along the road with a heavy heart with a sad look. Next week was her best friend Netta’s birthday party, and she had nothing new to wear. Her father’s mill had recently closed down. Money was so tight that buying a new dress was completely out of the question.
Desperate to fix her old dress, Nupur decided to visit the tailor. “I’ll ask him to lengthen it,” she thought to herself. But the tailor shook his head firmly; there was nothing he could do to save the faded garment.
Just then, a car pulled up beside the bank. A woman stepped out, opened her purse, and pulled out some papers. Her wallet slipped out unnoticed and fell to the ground. Unware of what had happened, the woman walked into the bank. Without hesitation, Nupur rushed over, picked up the wallet, and waited patiently on the steps for her to return.
After a long time, the woman came out. Nupur ran up to her and handed over the wallet. The woman stared at the girl in disbelief, then at her own wallet. “You waited all this time just to give this back to me?” she gasped. She noticed Nupur’s shabby, stained dress and asked, “Is everything all right, dear?”
Nupur told her about her troubles and the birthday party. The woman’s eyes softened. She owned a shop that specialized in altering clothes for children and young adults. “Come to my shop tomorrow,” she said gently. “I’ll make your dress look like new again.”

When Nupur slipped on her old dress, she gasped in surprise: stubborn stains were hidden under colorful patchwork, and the hem was lengthened with delicate lace. The once worn-out dress looked brand new, fitting her perfectly. “It’s a gift for your honesty,” the woman smiled. Nupur’s eyes filled with tears of joy, thanking her over and over again.
Paragraph 2
Her friend’s birthday party finally came. When Nupur walked in, all eyes turned to her beautiful dress. Her friends crowded around, asking where she got such a unique piece. She told them the story of the lost wallet and the kind woman, making everyone admire her honesty. That night, she danced and laughed more happily than ever. Later, the woman even offered her father a job at the boutique, turning their hard times around. Nupur learned that honesty truly brings unexpected blessings.

D
