In the far north of Norway, the phenomenon of the “Midnight Sun” transforms daily life. For nearly two months, the sun never sets, casting a golden glow over the fjords at 1 AM. This continuous daylight is both a blessing and a challenge. Tourists flock to witness the surreal scenery, but locals struggle with sleep 1 . The body’s internal clock, or circadian rhythm, relies on darkness to produce melatonin, a hormone that regulates rest. Without night, many residents report chronic fatigue and difficulty concentrating. To cope, they install blackout curtains and follow strict routines. Interestingly, some studies suggest that humans can adapt 2 to extreme light conditions if given enough time. However, the psychological effect of perpetual daylight should not be underestimated. “It’s like your brain never receives the signal to shut down,” says Dr. Eriksen, a sleep specialist in Tromsø. “ 3 you are exhausted, you may still find it impossible to fall asleep.” For visitors, the experience is often magical but short-lived. Locals, 4 , have developed a love-hate relationship with the Midnight Sun. They cherish the vibrant summer energy but long for the return of dark, starry nights. This delicate balance between wonder and weariness makes the Arctic a truly unique place. 5 the end, human beings are remarkably flexible, yet the power of natural cycles remains undeniable.

上文“The moths weren’t raised as children, but food”表明,黄蜂不需要借蜡蛾来养孩子,它们自己就能繁殖,after all“毕竟、终究”符合语境,表示“最终还是如此”。in all“总共”、at all“根本”(用于否定句)、above all“最重要的是”均不符合。
5.句意:黄蜂多么可怕啊!
感叹句结构:“How + 形容词 + 主语 + 谓语!”或 “What + a/an + 形容词 + 名词 + 主语 + 谓语!”此处中心词是形容词terrible,主语是the wasps,谓语是were,应用How引导,即“How terrible the wasps were!”符合语法。

根据“it provides food...”

根据前后文“when the city…the hands of Japanese invaders.”,fell into表示“落入(某人手中)”,符合语境中城市被占领的被动状态;broke into(闯入)强调主动破门而入,主语通常为侵略者,而此处主语是“the city”,逻辑不符;turned into(变成)、divided into(分成)与“城市被侵略者控制”的含义无关。

三、任务型阅读
Read the passage and finish the form with ONE word in each blank and answer the question that follows.
Processed food like frozen chips and pizzas is high in salt, sugar and fat. Already, the spread of cheap packaged food has a connection with more and more people who suffer from obesity (肥胖) around the world. Now scientists are trying to find out more proofs of how our industrialized (工业化的) food supply may be affecting (影响) our health.
What does processed food mean?
The researchers came up with a system that groups foods into four categories. The system says highly processed food is mostly made of industrialized ingredients. Instant noodles (方便面) and fried chicken are common examples of highly processed food. But also included are products that can bring benefits to health such as morning cereals (谷类食物), energy bars and some kinds of yogurt.
How does processed food affect people?
Researchers at the National Institutes of Health had 200 people take part in a four-week study. They found that people eat about 500 more calories a day when fed mostly processed food than given minimally (最低限度地) processed food.
In another study, researchers in France found people who ate more processed food were more likely to have heart disease. A similar study in Spain also showed eating more processed food might lead to a higher risk of death.
Why does processed food affect people?
When given less processed food, people in the study produced more of a hormone (荷尔蒙) that reduces the appetite (胃口) and less of a hormone that causes hunger. Kevin Hall, one of the researchers who led the study, also said that the source of nutrients (营养物质) might make a difference. Fiber (纤维) from fruit and vegetables may be better for making people feel full than that added to processed food such as energy bars and yogurt.
What should people do?
Limiting processed food can be difficult, especially for people with limited time and energy. People, however, should try to change the way they eat. Another challenge is the wide range of processed food in the market. It’s essential for people to tell which ones might be better or worse as food companies continually advertise their products to mislead customers.

On cold days, it’s usually not easy to leave your warm bed in the morning. What can you do if you find it difficult to get up early and start your day well?
Get your body moving
To help yourself get up, you can put your alarm clock far away from your bed. When it rings, you will need to get out of bed to turn it off. Then, you can take a moment to do a few push-ups or long jumps. These simple exercises will help wake your body up.
Change the lighting
A dark environment helps your brain to produce more melatonin (褪黑素). The melatonin prepares your body for sleep. Therefore, you should turn down the lights in your bedroom and stop looking at your phone screen at least an hour before bedtime. Make sure to open the curtains (窗帘) to let in more light right after you wake up. This will help you stay awake.
Make your bed
It seems like a small act, but don’t miss the good points of making it a habit. First, it gives you a simple sense of pride to finish this daily task in a few minutes. Second, it can help you stay away from going back to sleep. A clean bed sends you a clear message: it’s time to start your day. Third, a tidy and comfortable bed helps you sleep better at night, so you will find it much easier to get up the next morning.
Offer yourself rewards
Do something you love after you wake up. The reward can be as simple as making yourself a cup of your favourite coffee or tea. You can also watch the sunrise or do some reading. When you look forward to doing something in the early morning, you will become more active to get up.

Your Digital Footprint
Every time you go online, you leave a digital footprint. It shows where you’ve been, how long you stayed and what you’ve been doing there. Every time you use the Internet, send an email, play games, download (下载) a video or upload a photo, the information can be known to someone. This shouldn’t necessarily be worrying, but you’d better be aware of your digital footprint and be careful to keep yourself safe when you are online.
Here are some top tips for taking care of your digital footprint.
Remember to log off (退出) when you leave a website, especially if you are using a shared computer. If you don’t, someone else can easily pretend (假装) to be you! When using Wi-Fi hotspots in coffee shops, libraries and other places, try not to log in apps that need personal information.
Don’t tell anyone your passwords (密码) and don’t write them down in a place where others can see. Make them more difficult to remember by combining letters, numbers and punctuation marks.
Make sure that your blogs or posts are seen only within your circle of friends. Nothing is more important than your privacy (隐私). Just a click on your apps and software can make your files private and safe. Remember to do this, especially after making any changes.
Think twice before sharing details like your email, home address, WeChat ID, school or phone number with someone. If you want to post comments online, don’t use your real name. Instead you can invent a nickname. You can also use a picture instead of a real photo.
As teenagers, if you read anything online that makes you feel down and worried, remember to ask for help. Tell an adult you trust. There are also ways to report unsuitable content online.
Think about the future
Remember your favourite websites by using the history button and the bookmark on your computer or mobile phones. This is a way that your digital footprint can work for you, but remember to clear your footprint regularly (定期地).
All kinds of people are interested in your digital footprint. It’s now quite common for colleges, universities and bosses to check out the online information of possible candidates (申请人). There are cases of people having missed out on jobs and places in college because their digital footprint didn’t impress people.
So, remember: take good care of your digital footprint with the future in your mind!

Have you ever wondered why the sky is blue or why some colours make you feel calm while others make you feel excited? The science of colour is called colour psychology, and it affects almost every part of our lives.
Colours can influence our moods without us even realising it. Blue is often described as a calming colour. Hospitals and dentists' offices often use blue walls to help patients feel more relaxed. Green is associated with nature and growth. Many schools paint their walls light green because it is believed to help students concentrate. Yellow is the most visible colour in daylight. It captures attention quickly, which is why taxis and warning signs are often yellow. However, too much yellow can cause feelings of anger or frustration. Red is the colour of energy and excitement. It raises heart rates and creates a sense of urgency. That is why clearance sales often use red tags. But red can also be aggressive, which is why it is used carefully in schools and hospitals.
Different cultures see colours differently. In Western countries, white is worn at weddings to represent purity. But in many Eastern cultures, white is the colour of mourning and is worn at funerals. Black is seen as formal and elegant in the West, but in some cultures, it represents evil or bad luck. Purple was once so expensive to produce that only royalty could afford it. Today, purple still suggests luxury and wealth.
Businesses use colour psychology carefully. Fast food restaurants often use red and yellow because these colours stimulate appetite and encourage quick eating. Banks and insurance companies use blue because it suggests trust and stability. Environmental organisations use green to connect their message with nature. Even product packaging is tested for colour appeal before hitting the shelves.
Understanding colour psychology can help you make better choices in your own life. Do you want to feel calm? Paint your bedroom blue. Need to focus? Add some green to your study area. Want to feel energetic? Wear something red. The colours around you are not just decoration—they are quietly shaping how you think and feel.

It was my first year teaching in a special school and I wasn’t sure what to expect at our school sports meeting. My students faced a lot of challenges, from mild learning disabilities to physical disabilities.
I didn’t know that day would teach me the true meaning of “everyone deserves (值得) their own time to shine.”
Mark was one of the latter. He had to get around in a wheelchair. But he always had a positive attitude and greeted everyone with a huge smile, even when his arms felt tired from pushing his wheelchair.
His classmates loved him, especially Mike, Andy and Lucas, three boys who were good at sport. I knew Mark wanted to be like them, watching them play with admiration during PE class.
When track and field day came, Mike, Andy and Lucas placed well, giving the crowd something to cheer about. Mark sat on the sidelines, cheering them on proudly.
The final event of the day was the 400-metre race. Everyone was invited to either walk or run. We watched as they took off. Mike, Andy and Lucas all wanted to prove who the better athlete was.
But when the three reached the finishing line, they stopped and turned to look behind them. At the back of the crowd was Mark. He was alone on the track and he hadn’t covered half of the distance.
Mike, Andy and Lucas looked at each other, and a silent thought passed between them. Slowly, they ran back towards their friend. They formed a circle around Mark and kept pace (步伐), cheering him on as he had done for them before.
In the end, the four crossed the finishing line together to the excited shouts of their teachers and classmates. Seeing the look on Mark’s face, I came to understand what makes the Special Olympics so special. They need a chance to show their worth and what they can do. Everyone deserves their own time to shine.

Online Learning: Advantages and Disadvantages
Now online learning has become very common among students. It brings both advantages and disadvantages to us.
On one hand, online learning is flexible. We can study at home and choose courses we like. It also makes it easy to learn from excellent teachers far away. On the other hand, it has problems. Some students can’t focus on study and play games secretly. Staring at screens for long hours does harm to our eyes.

I think holding a special graduation ceremony is a great idea. It will be a wonderful memory for all of us.
I have some suggestions for activities. First, we can have a “memory sharing” session where everyone shares their favorite moment from junior high school. Second, we can make a class yearbook with photos and messages from everyone. Finally, we can plant a tree together in the school garden to symbolize our growth.
I want to thank you and all my classmates for the amazing three years. I will never forget this time.
Yours,
Li Hua

Zhang loves Chinese history very much. He said technology helps people learn about the p 9 better. “History is not just in museum boxes — people can f 10 it and talk with it,” he said. Eating in space
I used to w 3 about the food in space. But in fact we can choose from many types of food, such as fruit, nuts, chicken, beef and seafood. We have different types of tea, juice and soup as well. It turns out (证明) that eating can be a p 4 in space too!
Working in space
We are very busy every day. Being an astronaut is hard because you do not experience gravity (重力) when you are in orbit. Everything floats (漂浮), i 5 you, so simple tasks seem harder and take longer to do. When we go outside, we have to move very carefully. We can’t afford to make any mistakes, so it can be stressful sometimes. However, it is an a 6 experience to go outside the space station in a spacesuit. The view of the Earth is great!
Sleeping in space
Just like on Earth, I go to bed at a c 7 time. However, I sleep in a sleeping bag in a small room, and I have to stick my sleeping bag to the wall. This stops me from floating around the room and h 8 something by mistake!
Exercising in space
