You’ve already noticed that some people are right-handed while others are left-handed. But did you know that elephants are left- or right-trunked? People can tell this by looking at the wrinkles (褶皱) on their trunks (象鼻), a study in Science found.
Elephants can use their trunks to do many things, like picking up food, spraying (喷洒) water or sand across their backs to cool off, and sending warnings (警告) to other elephants. The muscles (肌肉) and wrinkles of the trunks help them do these things. Wrinkles make the trunk move flexibly. Scientists found that elephants like to bend (弯曲) their trunks to one side to put food in their mouths. Over time, this side of their trunk gets more wrinkles than the other. This is what makes them either left- or right-trunked.
Elephants have a 50:50 chance of being left- or right-trunked. This is very different from people. For us, only about 10% are left-handed, according to CBS News.
More interestingly, Asian elephants have more wrinkles on their trunks than African elephants. African elephants have two finger-like structures (结构) at the end of their trunks to pick things up, but Asian elephants have only one. So, Asian elephants put their trunks around things to grab (抓住) them more often than African elephants do. This leads to more wrinkles.
23.How can people tell if an elephant is left- or right-trunked?
A.By looking at the length of their trunks.
B.By checking the wrinkles on their trunks.
C.By checking the size of their trunks.
24.What does the underlined word “flexibly” mean?
25.What can we know from the passage?
A.Most elephants are right-trunked.
B.Most people are left-handed.
C.Asian elephants have more wrinkles on their trunks.
26.What is the passage mainly about?
A.How elephants live their daily lives.
B.The differences between Asian and African elephants.
C.How elephants can be left- or right-trunked.
【答案】23.B 24.A 25.C 26.C
根据“People can tell this by looking at the wrinkles (褶皱) on their trunks (象鼻), a study in Science found.”
根据“Elephants can use their trunks to do many things, like picking up food, spraying (喷洒) water or sand across their backs to cool off”以及“The muscles (肌肉) and wrinkles of the trunks help them do these things. Wrinkles make the trunk move flexibly. ”可知,褶皱能帮助大象用鼻子完成捡食物、喷水等多样动作,由此可推测“flexibly”表示“灵活地”,故选A。
25.细节理解题。根据“More interestingly, Asian elephants have more wrinkles on their trunks than African elephants.”
C
On the morning of April 19, 2026, a special race took place in Beijing. About 12,000 human runners and over 300 humanoid (类人的) robots started together from the same line at the 2026 Beijing E-Town Half Marathon. It was the world’s first half marathon that allowed humans and biped (双足的) robots to race on the same course.
When the first robot crossed the finish line, history was made. The winner was “Lightning”, a robot made by Chinese company Honor. It finished the 21-kilometer race in 50 minutes and 26 seconds. That was nearly seven minutes faster than the human half marathon world record of 57 minutes and 20 seconds. In other words, a robot beat the best human runner on the planet.
However, the race was not as simple as it seemed. Another remote-controlled robot first reached the end with a time of 48 minutes and 19 seconds—more than two minutes faster than “Lightning”. But by the race rules, remote-controlled robots’ time should be increased by 1.2 times, making it about 57 minutes. “Lightning” which ran all by itself, became the real winner. The rules were set to support robots that can act and think independently.
The progress from last year was even more amazing. In 2025, most robots couldn’t finish well and needed workers’ help. This year, nearly 40% of robot teams could run alone only with the help of sensors (传感器) and cameras. Such races are meaningful. Experts say that can help solve key problems such as battery life, heat control, and quick decision-making. These are the same skills robots will need to work in factories, help at home, or take part in disaster rescue (营救). In short, a robot that can finish a marathon is one step closer to being truly useful in our daily lives.
27.According to Paragraph 1, what made 2026 Beijing E-Town Half Marathon special?
A.Robots and humans ran together on the same course.
B.Only robots were allowed to take part in the race.
C.It was the world’s first half marathon.
28.What can we know about the race rules from the passage?
A.The rules give more support to self-dependent robots.
B.All robots’ time should be increased by 1.2 times.
C.Human runners are controlled by strict new rules.
29.What is the true meaning of holding the robot half marathon?
A.To break the running records of human sportsmen.
B.To improve robots’ practical skills for daily life.
C.To show the speed of humanoid robots is faster.
30.What’s the best title of the passage?
A.A New Marathon Beyond Speed
B.The Fastest Robot Runner Lightning
C.Ways to Improve Robot Performance
【答案】27.A 28.A 29.B 30.A
第一段明确指出:“It was the world’s first half marathon that allowed humans and biped robots to race on the same course.”(这是世界上第一个允许人类和双足机器人在同一赛道上比赛的半程马拉松。)
最后一句明确:“The rules were set to support robots that can act and think independently.”(规则的制定是为了支持能够独立行动和思考的机器人。)
最后一句总结:“a robot that can finish a marathon is one step closer to being truly useful in our daily lives.”(能完成马拉松的机器人离在日常生活中真正有用又近了一步。)

根据“seems”可知,此处考查“seem to do sth”,意为“似乎做某事”,所以此处应用动词不定式形式,故填to be。
Reading is one of the most valuable activities you can do. It offers many benefits (好处) that go beyond just fun.
First, reading improves your vocabulary and language skills. When you read books, articles, or stories, you will meet new words and phrases. Over time, this helps you express yourself better in writing and speaking. For example, if you read science fiction novels, you might learn technical terms.
Second, reading enhances (增强) your imagination. Unlike watching TV or movies, reading requires you to visualize scenes, characters, and settings in your mind. This ability to imagine helps develop creativity, which is useful in many areas of life, such as art, problem-solving, and even daily decision-making.
Finally, reading is a great way to relax. After a busy day, diving into a good book can reduce (减少) stress and help you relax. It allows you to escape (逃离) reality for a while and enter a different world.
In short, reading is not only enjoyable but also important for personal growth. So, pick up a book today and start exploring (探索) the benefits for yourself!

Reading is one of the most valuable activities you can do. It offers many benefits (好处) that go beyond just fun.
First, reading improves your vocabulary and language skills. When you read books, articles, or stories, you will meet new words and phrases. Over time, this helps you express yourself better in writing and speaking. For example, if you read science fiction novels, you might learn technical terms.
