In the Gaoligong Mountains of Yunnan lives a very special kind of gibbon. It is called the Skywalker hoolock gibbon. This is the only ape (类人猿) named by Chinese scientists. Sadly, fewer than 200 of them remain in the wild in China. Because they are in great danger, many forest guardians (守卫者) work hard to keep them safe.
Yang Youshan is one of those guardians. Now 50-year-old Yang has followed a pair of old gibbons for 17 years. Over this long time, he has got to know their habits very well. For example, he knows exactly what fruits and leaves they eat in different seasons. This helps him easily find their tracks (踪迹) and ensure they are not hurt or hungry.
However, people knew little about this gibbon in the past. That changed in 2005 when someone took the first clear photo of one. That picture opened the door for scientists to study them more closely. After careful research, they discovered it was a new species. In 2017, scientists named it Hoolock tianxing, or Skywalker hoolock gibbon.
Over the years, better methods have been used to monitor them. For instance, people now record their special calls to track their movements. Even so, only about 50 gibbons remain in the reserve (自然保护区). Human activities have pushed them into higher, colder areas that are not ideal for them. To help, people are now planting food trees and building rope bridges to reconnect fragmented (支离破碎的) forests.
In the end, for guardians like Yang, protecting the gibbons is more than a job. It is a long-term promise to these lovely animals and the forest they call home.

A.Fewer than 50. B.About 200. C.Fewer than 200. D.More than 200.
10.What can we infer from Yang Youshan’s story in Paragraph 2?
A.The gibbons only eat one kind of fruit all year round.

D.Knowing the gibbons’ eating habits helps Yang protect them better.
11.Which paragraph tells us about the discovery of the Skywalker hoolock gibbon?

12.Where can we most probably read this passage?

C.In a travel guide to Yunnan. D.In a fashion magazine.
