Last summer,I went on a trip back to my hometown, a place that had long been calling me back with its rich history and traditions.
Upon arrival,I made a beeline for the ancient town square. In the heart of it stood the splendid town hall which was built in the 16th century and had lasted through the years. Centuries had left their mark on the structure's stone walls. As I entered, the dimly lit inside was filled with pictures of former mayors and local celebrities. Their serious looks seemed to tell stories about the town's past, making me feel an instant connection to those who had shaped the community.
The yearly harvest festival was approaching, and the town was full of activity. I eagerly joined my old friends and neighbours in preparing for it. We decorated the streets with colourful streamers and carefully arranged the rich produce from local farms. The festival was an energetic celebration. On the day, the streets were alive with people in traditional clothes. There were stands offering handmade goods. The smell of local foods, like delicious apple pies made from local apples, filled the air. Folk dances and music performances added to the festive atmosphere. I was soon pulled into the dancing, my first awkwardness giving way to pure enjoyment.
Another highlight was the old mill(磨坊) on the outskirts. Operating for over 200 years,it had been crucial for grinding grains to feed the community. The miller, a kind-faced elderly man, showed me around, explaining the inner workings of the water-powered machinery. His stories about how the mill had sustained the town during difficult times painted a vivid picture of its importance in the town's history.
As my trip came to an end, I left with a heart full of cherished memories. The history and traditions of my hometown were not relics of the past but living, breathing parts of the present, firmly grounding me in my roots.

The Qixi Festival, the Chinese equivalent(等同物)of Valentine's Day, which fell yesterday, was a disappointment not only for forgotten lovers, but also for businessmen left with empty pockets.
The cold attitude has made cultural experts seriously worry that the lovers' festival, marked for generations since the Han Dynasty (202 BC-220 AD),is dying out. Some have even called for legislation (立法) to make the festival a legal Chinese Lovers' Day—it falls on the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar year. But the effectiveness of such a measure is in doubt, although efforts to preserve traditional festivals deserve high praise.
A growing number of traditional Chinese festivals, such as the Dragon Boat Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival, share the same fate as the Qixi Festival. Young people are showing less interest in traditional culture symbolised by these festivals. Even if all traditional festivals are finally made legal, the risk of them becoming purely formalised celebrations with little meaning is not removed. If the younger generation fails to appreciate the cultural significance of these holidays, there is little that can be done.
While complaining about traditional festivals fading in appeal, decision-makers should reflect on cultural protection. Undeniably, our country has faced challenges in preserving cultural traditions compared to other countries. It was after Korea's 2005 UNESCO(联合国教科文组织)proposal for the Dragon Boat Festival that China accelerated efforts to safeguard intangible cultural heritage.
Concern about the traditional holidays also reminds people of the growing influence of foreign cultures as the country opens wider to the outside world. With traditional festivals becoming less important and foreign festivals such as Christmas and Valentine's Day gaining widespread popularity, the public, including cultural professionals, has tended to measure traditional Chinese festivals in economic terms. How much money can be made during the holidays is taken into consideration.
In fact, what makes traditional festivals unique and what keeps them alive are their cultural elements. After all, it is a unique culture that contributes to the world's diversity with globalisation.
28. What makes Chinese cultural experts worry that the lovers' festival is dying out?
A. The disappointment for both businessmen and lovers.
B.The ignorance of the public to the Qixi Festival.
C. The failure to make traditional Chinese festivals legal.
D. The action to preserve culture and traditional festivals.
29. What's the attitude of the public looking at the effectiveness of the legalisation of the Qixi Festival?
A. Doubtful.
B.Favourable.
C. Indifferent.
D. Hopeful.
30. What can we learn from Paragraph 3?
A. Traditional festivals are celebrated by more young people.
B. Legal celebrations reduce the risk of the disappearance of traditional culture.
C. The significance of traditional festivals should be better recognised.
D. Young people value traditional culture but they can do little.
31. What's the purpose of the writing of this article?
A. To remind us that the cultural factors make traditional festivals live on.
B. To complain that other countries do a better job of preserving culture.
C. To inform the public of the importance of the globalisation.
D. To warn people against the business role in celebrating traditional festivals.
D
An important lesson in the moral education of children may be closer than imagined — it could be right there in the books they are holding. Stories can be helpful for building moral values in young audiences, according to the results of a new study.
“Media can greatly influence children's moral values and get them to place more or less importance on the values according to what is uniquely stressed in that content,” says Lindsay Hahn, PhD, a professor in the University at Buffalo College of Arts and Sciences.
Hahn is the first author of the new study, which explores how media content influences children. Many previous studies have focused on broad ideas, like positive or negative effects of specific content. However, Hahn's study looks at how the reading content featuring specific moral values (care, fairness, loyalty, and authority) might influence the weight that kids place on those values.
Do children who read about particular moral characteristics absorb those qualities and build their own morality? The findings suggest so, and further support how this approach can help teach the moral principles that kids might receive through formal instruction.
For the study, Hahn and her team took the main character from a teen novel and edited the content to create four different story versions (版本). Each version showed one of four moral values that the study focused on. Then those stories were read by about 200 participants between the ages of 10 and 14.
This age group is the best for media research, Hahn explained the reason, “It is more difficult for younger children to understand stories, while it is also challenging to hold the attention of older teenagers, who become bored with simple storylines.” The team then designed a scale (量表) to measure the importance that kids place on moral values, so as to determine how participants might be influenced by specific stories.
32.What is the result of the new study?
A. Stories should be spread more by media.
B. Stories help children develop moral values.
C. Children learn moral values from their parents.
D. Children like reading books full of funny stories.
33.What is mainly talked about in Paragraph 3?
A. The branches of media research.
B. The impact of children's literature.
C. The comparison with previous studies.
D. The response of the public to the study.
34.Why did the researchers choose participants aged from 10 to 14?
A. Their moral values cannot be easily influenced.
B. They are in a critical stage of moral development.
C. This age group has better moral values than others.
D. They can understand the stories and won't lose interest.
35.Where does this passage probably come from?
A. A social report.
B. A blog post.
C. A school textbook.
D. An education magazine.

(2025河南部分名校联考)The fire raced through Lahaina, Hawaii last August so fast that it destroyed more than 2,200 buildings, most of which were homes. It left more than 7,000 people without their possessions and in need of shelter.
That afternoon, 36-year-old Kalyn Lepre grabbed her phone and wallet and drove out of town. She lost everything else in her house: clothes, documents, a computer and her precious long surfboard. Lepre surfed almost every day as surfing was a source of joy and a way to maintain her mental health. Seeing her treasured surfboard reduced to pieces made her heart broken.
Jud Lau understood. The 53-year-old Maui native has been riding the waves since he was a teenager, and he’s been building surfboards for the last 15 years. He knows the value of a good surfboard.
“A surfboard is part of your whole being—especially in Hawaii, where surfing originated,” he says. “Losing a surfboard is like losing a part of your soul.” So, wanting to help the victims in some way, he started thinking about all the surfers who had lost their surfboards. “That’s my area of expertise,” he says. “Surfing is a healing(治愈的)thing for surfers—surfing in the ocean and connecting to Mother Nature.”
Lau realized he could give that back to them. He started by connecting people who wanted to donate extra surfboards to those who had lost theirs, about 200 surfboards in total. Friends in Oahu and California collected another 550 surfboards and shipped them to Maui for Lau to distribute.
While he was trying to connect with those victims online, Lau happened to see a post from Lepre. The post read, “How I wish my long custom surfboard still stayed with me! Tough to pull through.” Lau suddenly realized that many surfers, like Lepre, used custom surfboards designed to accommodate their size or the type of waves they rode.

第1节 参考范文
Dear Mike,
Greetings from China! I’m so glad your school will offer a Chinese course. Here are my suggestions for the classroom.
First, you can put up traditional Chinese paintings and calligraphy works on the walls. They will show the beauty of Chinese culture and inspire students’ interest. Besides, you can set up a small bookshelf with simple Chinese storybooks or magazines. Students can read them in their free time to learn more about the language. What’s more, playing soft Chinese folk music before class can help everyone feel relaxed and get into the mood.
I hope these ideas will help you create a warm Chinese learning environment.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 参考范文(读后续写)
Lau contacted Lepre through the Internet. He told her he was a surfboard maker and had seen her post about losing her custom board. He offered to build her a new one for free, matching her size and the waves she loved to ride. Over the next few days, they talked a lot about her old board, the way it felt in the water, and what she hoped for in a new one. When the board was finished, Lepre held it close and cried, feeling a little piece of her old life come back. Surfing again, she said, was like breathing fresh air.
Lau decided to help more people like Lepre and Lepre joined him. Together, they started a small project to collect stories of lost boards and build custom ones for other survivors. Word spread quickly, and more people reached out to share their memories and hopes. With each board they gave away, they saw a little more light return to people’s eyes. For Lau and Lepre, the fire had taken a lot, but it had also given them a new purpose: to heal their community, one surfboard at a time.
