11-year-old Canadian Kiké Dueck has always loved nature. From studying bird books as a young child to identifying mushrooms and native plants, her connection to the earth runs deep.
But at nine, reading about climate change caused the first feelings of anxiety. “Painfully, I couldn’t understand why people acted like everything was normal when the planet was in trouble,” Kiké said, Like many young people, she felt flooded by fears of droughts, wildfires, and a changing world — emotions known as climate anxiety. A Canadian study found over half of kids feel afraid or powerless about the environment, with 37% saying these feelings affect their daily lives.
For Kiké, there are days when she loses her motivation to care about day-to-day basics like getting dressed and going to school or being enthusiastic about the sports she’s involved in. “I feel bad because I’m not feeling like I’m doing enough or something like that. But then I eventually feel better and then I feel like I’m not doing enough again and I’ll just cycle on and on,” she says.
Thankfully, Kiké’s parents, Dennie Fornwald and Kris Dueck, turned this worry into a chance for growth. They sought ways to help Kiké channel her passion into positive action. “We wanted her to feel empowered, not helpless,” Fornwald said. They connected with EnviroCollective, a local climate advocacy group. Through the organization, Kiké joined meaningful projects, such as partnering with groups like Better Bus Youth to advocate for greener transportation. Kiké has also become involved with the Cathedral Forest Project, planting an urban forest in a park not far from the family’s house.
While both parents said they’d always cared about the environment, Kris said that Kiké, only 11, had pushed them to be more accountable. They are mindful of driving less and biking to work. Their recycling system,is highly organized, redirecting nearly all of their waste for recycling and composting (堆肥).
24. What made Kiké worried?
A. The effect of young people on her. B. Her failing to love nature earlier.
C. People’s lacking green awareness. D. The result of the Canadian study.
25. What does climate anxiety bring Kiké?
A. Self-blame. B. Self-respect.
C. Hesitancy. D. Confidence.
26. How did Kiké’s parents support her in protecting the earth?
A. By explaining its importance. B. By planting trees in the park.
C. By leading her into practice. D. By establishing organizations.
27. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Parents are the best teachers. B. Big actions surely speak louder.
C. Eco-anxiety is worrying. D. The young can change the old.

In recent years, mental health has gained increasing attention in China. To reduce public prejudice against mental illness and help patients rebuild confidence, the Shanghai Mental Health Center has opened a special art gallery. Since its launch in 2019, the gallery has held 15 exhibitions and displayed over 1,000 artworks created by patients with mental health challenges.
A recent exhibition, held in cooperation with Italian brand Moleskine, focuses on caregivers of mental patients. It aims to highlight their efforts and the pressure they face. “Many caregivers hide their struggles due to social prejudice. We want them to realize they are not alone,” said Niu Xiaona, an art therapist at the center. The exhibits include paintings, photos and handwritten journals, all reflecting the real lives of patients and their caregivers.
Art therapy has proven effective in helping patients express emotions that are hard to put into words. It also helps break stereotypes about mental health institutions. Instead of being seen as cold and scary places, they are now viewed as warm and human-centered.
With more such creative projects, China is building a more inclusive society for people with mental health issues. By combining art with mental health care, these initiatives offer a new path for treatment and public education.
28. How many exhibitions has the art gallery held by 2026?
A. 5. B. 10. C. 20. D. 15.
29. What can be inferred about caregivers from Paragraph 2?
A. They seldom face pressure in daily life.
B. They often hide their difficulties from others.
C. They receive little support from their families.
D. They refuse to participate in such exhibitions.
30. What does the author think of art therapy?
A. It is a useless method for mental patients.
B. It helps change people’s views on mental health institutions.
C. It can completely cure mental illnesses.
D. It only focuses on patients’ physical health.
31. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The importance of mental health in modern society.
B. The development of mental health institutions in China.
C. Art exhibitions help improve mental health and reduce prejudice.
D. How to care for family members with mental illnesses.

Soil is the foundation of global food production, supporting nearly all agricultural crops. However, human activities such as over‑farming, overuse of chemical fertilizers (化肥) and deforestation have caused serious soil degradation (恶化) worldwide, which gradually reduces soil fertility and threatens food security.
A research team published their findings in Scientific Reports after analyzing soil data from over 100 countries. The study found that one‑third of the world’s farmland has suffered moderate to severe degradation. In these areas, crop output has dropped by 10% to 50% in the past three decades, directly affecting local food supply.
Overuse of chemical fertilizers is the main cause of soil damage. Though fertilizers can increase short‑term production, they kill beneficial soil microorganisms (微生物), destroy soil structure and cause acidification (土壤酸化). Besides, frequent plowing removes surface soil and makes farmland easily affected by wind and water erosion.
The researchers also warned that soil degradation forms a vicious cycle. As soil becomes less fertile, farmers tend to use more fertilizers to maintain output, which further worsens soil quality. Without proper protection, more farmland will lose its production capacity in the future.
To solve this problem, the study calls for eco‑friendly farming methods. These include using organic fertilizers, rotating different crops yearly and planting protective grass on farmland edges. Only by protecting soil health can humans achieve long‑term food security.
32. What is the main threat caused by soil degradation?
A. Air pollution. B. Food insecurity. C. Water shortage. D. Climate warming.
33. What can we learn from the text?
A. Farmland crop yields have fallen. B. Chemical fertilizers benefit soil structure.
C. Frequent plowing prevents soil erosion. D. Traditional farming methods are advised.
34. What does the underlined word “vicious” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Positive. B. Harmful。 C. Natural. D. Complete.
35. What is the best title for the passage?
A. The Importance of Chemical Fertilizers. B. Causes and Solutions of Global Soil Degradation.
C. How to Increase World Crop Production. D. Different Farming Methods Around the World.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
We will all experience some traces of self-doubt, that is natural. But living with self-doubt can be very challenging. It limits potential and breaks morale (士气). ____36____
Self-compassion is the key.
We often doubt ourselves when we have the fear of losing, but that is a great mistake we make. Everyone will make mistakes at some point in their lives, but we have to grow from those mistakes and transform them into a lesson. ____37____ Begin your day with a positive attitude. Look at yourself in the mirror and say some positive words.
____38____
Remember the time when you achieved something outstanding? Self-reflection is one of the best tools to kill self-doubt. It makes you remember that you once achieved something great, and it makes you believe that you can achieve that level of success again through concentrated efforts. Take a moment regularly to look back on your past glories and use them as stepping stones to push you forward, rather than allowing self-doubt to overshadow your potential and hold you back.
Always be in the company of supportive people.
“You are known by the company you keep”, is one of the best sayings to explain this strategy. We should be surrounded by people that support and love us, not people that constantly make us doubt ourselves. Being around negative people is very bad for our mental health. When you are in the company of good people, you will always be encouraged to be better. ____39____
Seek professional help if necessary.
Sometimes the situation can become too much to handle. This is the time when we should seek professional help. ____40____ But once handled properly, it won’t bother you anymore. 六、书面表达
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The Turning Point
The bright stadium lights shone on my face as I rushed past two defenders, my heart beating fast. Just before someone tried to take the ball, I saw Jamie standing free near the goal, waiting for my pass. But I didn’t because this was my kingdom to show my talent for football. Unfortunately, the ball was taken from me, and the other team quickly scored. Coach Nick blew his whistle loudly. His anger felt as cold as the winter wind.
Nick seemed disappointed with me. He repeatedly stressed that football was not individual heroism but teamwork. I agreed but I believed in my individual abilities much more. After his repeated attempts to educate me failed, I got moved to the bench (板凳) team.
Six weeks later, I went home after another benching session, kicking stones along the sidewalk. Mom found me upset at the backyard fence. “Help me trim (修剪) the vine (紫藤),” she said, handing me tools without meeting my eyes. As we worked, my anger poured out. “They just hate that I’m fast. Nick is blind to my talent”. “Look at this plant,” Mom cut in, touching a part of the plant that were damaging the fence by growing too tightly around the fence. The vine looked weak, dying because they grew too wildly. “These vines need support,” she said, breaking a dead branch. “But if they grow too strong alone.” She pointed to healthy vines growing together. “See? Their roots share food underground. Together, they grow best.”
Mum’s words hit me like a bad football move. That night, I watched our team videos over and over again. I saw many times when passing chances appeared clearly, but I was too selfish to notice.

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

A. Self-blame. B. Self-respect.
C Hesitancy. D. Confidence.
【答案】24. C 25. A 26. C 27. D

【答案】28. D 29. B 30. B 31. C

D
A Farmland crop yields have fallen. B. Chemical fertilizers benefit soil structure.
C. Frequent plowing prevents soil erosion. D. Traditional farming methods are advised.
34. What does the underlined word “vicious” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Positive. B. Harmful。 C. Natural. D. Complete.
35 What is the best title for the passage?
A. The Importance of Chemical Fertilizers. B. Causes and Solutions of Global Soil Degradation.
C. How to Increase World Crop Production. D. Different Farming Methods Around the World.
【答案】32. B 33. A 34. B 35. B
【解析】
【导语】文章主要介绍了全球土壤恶化的现状、成因、危害以及应对措施。
【32题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段“However, human activities such as over-farming, overuse of chemical fertilizers (化肥) and deforestation have caused serious soil degradation (恶化) worldwide, which gradually reduces soil fertility and threatens food security. (然而,过度耕作、过度使用化肥和砍伐森林等人类活动已在全球范围内造成严重土壤退化,这逐渐降低土壤肥力并威胁粮食安全。)”可知,土壤退化造成的主要威胁是粮食不安全。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“The study found that one-third of the world’s farmland has suffered moderate to severe degradation. In these areas, crop output has dropped by 10% to 50% in the past three decades, directly affecting local food supply. (研究发现,全球三分之一的农田遭受了中度至重度退化。在这些地区,过去三十年农作物产量下降了10%至50%,直接影响当地粮食供应。)”可知,农田作物产量已经下降。
【34题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第四段“The researchers also warned that soil degradation forms a vicious cycle. As soil becomes less fertile, farmers tend to use more fertilizers to maintain output, which further worsens soil quality. (研究人员还警告说,土壤退化形成了一个vicious cycle。随着土壤肥力下降,农民倾向于使用更多化肥来维持产量,这进一步恶化了土壤质量。)”可知,土壤退化导致农民使用更多化肥,而更多化肥又进一步恶化土壤质量,这是一个有害的循环。因此,vicious意为“有害的;恶性的”。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“Soil is the foundation of global food production, supporting nearly all agricultural crops.
六、书面表达
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整短文。
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The next day, I went to the court as usual.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
This time I was determined to prove myself.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
The next day, I went to the court as usual. During practice, I focused entirely on observing my teammates’ positions. When Jason broke through the defense line, I immediately passed the ball to him instead of attempting risky dribbling. Coach Nick nodded slightly, though his expression remained stern. After training, I approached Coach Nick for a heart-to-heart talk. I frankly admitted my previous shortcomings and asked for another chance to prove myself on the field. Thankfully, Nick agreed. I eventually earned my starting position back. When the long-awaited monthly tournament arrived, I stood shoulder-to-shoulder with my teammates, ready to face our opponents not as a lone wolf, but as part of a united pack.
This time I was determined to prove myself. The real test came on Friday. With scores tied at 2-2 in the final minute, I received the ball near the corner flag. Jamie was making a perfect run towards the penalty area, completely unmarked. Without hesitation, I sent a curved cross soaring through the air. The ball landed precisely at Jamie’s feet, and his powerful volley sent the entire stadium into deafening cheers. As my teammates rushed to hug us, I finally understood what true strength meant. Individual brilliance might win momentary applause, but only teamwork could create everlasting victories.
