情态动词can. could和may
1. can表示主语现在所具备的能力;常与表示现在的时间状语连用 Millie can play the piano well.

也可以用be able to来表示能力,be动词有人称、数和时态的变化 I am able to look after myself.
2. 表示请求对方允许时,can, could, may 均可用,但是could语气更委婉,并不表示过去时态,could只用于一般疑问句。may则用在比较正式的场合。
can提问,肯定回答用can;could提问,肯定回答用can;may提问,肯定回答用may
否定回答都用can’t
3. 表推测时,can常用于否定句中,cannot (can’t)表示“不可能”could常用于肯定句和否定句中
