Over 2,300 students and teachers from two schools in Guyuan, Ningxia, spent about 16 hours hiking to show respect for the martyrs (烈士).
They began the trip at 4:30 am on April 1st. They hiked 27 kilometers from their schools to the Renshanhe Martyrs Cemetery (墓园). “It was still dark for the first half of the trip. And walking along the mountain roads was difficult. However, none of us gave up. Wang Kaixin was from Hongwen Middle School. His feet began to hurt halfway. But when a parent volunteer asked him to get in his car, he said no. “I felt like if I couldn’t walk to the place on my own this time, I might run away from difficulties in my life. So I had to keep going,” he said.
During the trip, the students held up red flags and sang old songs loudly. The team finally arrived at around 11:00 am. Then they swept the tombs (扫墓) for the martyrs there. After that, the students returned to Guyuan on foot.

Peng Shilu was born in a family of heroes in Haifeng, Guangdong in 1925. When he was less than five years old, his parents died. The young boy was taken care of and protected by the poor, and he moved between different families and lived a difficult life. The people’s kindness influenced him deeply at his early age.

Over 2,300 students and teachers from two schools in Guyuan, Ningxia, spent about 16 hours hiking to show respect for the martyrs (烈士).
They began the trip at 4:30 am on April 1st. They hiked 27 kilometers from their schools to the Renshanhe Martyrs Cemetery (墓园). “It was still dark for the first half of the trip. Peng Shilu was born in a family of heroes in Haifeng, Guangdong in 1925. When he was less than five years old, his parents died.
