In a world where access to books is often limited by socio-economic barriers, Jane, a dedicated street librarian, is on a mission to change that. Her journey began when she chanced upon a small, makeshift library in a low-income neighborhood run by volunteers. Inspired by their dedication, Jane decided to create a mobile library to reach even more people.
With the help of a few friends and a donated shuttle, Jane transformed her vision into a reality. She scoured (逛) thrift stores and garage sales to fill her mobile library with a diverse range of titles, from classics to contemporary bestsellers. Soon, her library, “Storybook Maze,” became a familiar sight across the city. She parked her shuttle in areas with limited access to traditional libraries, such as public housing projects and homeless shelters. As word spread, people from all walks of life began to flock to her van.
For many, Storybook Maze was more than just a place to borrow books — it was a symbol of hope and inclusiveness. Jane made a conscious effort to fill books that reflected the diversity of her community, ensuring that readers could see themselves in the stories. The impact was far-reaching: children who had never held a book before were now racing through entire series, and adults were rediscovering the joy of reading.
However, the journey was not without challenges. Jane faced disbelief from those who doubted the feasibility (可行性) of a mobile library and struggled to find stable funding. Nonetheless, her determination only grew stronger. She recruited volunteers, applied for grants (拨款), and partnered with local organizations to keep the project alive. Today, Storybook Maze is a beloved institution, reminding everyone that a book has the power to change a life.
24.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.Why Jane offered help to the poor. B.How Jane got Storybook Maze running.
C.How Jane collected books for the project. D.Who Jane’s mobile library targeted.
25.What can be inferred about the books Jane chose for the library?
A.They focus on local people’s lives. B.They aim to make money for the project.
C.They mainly include classical works. D.They get readers deeply involved.
26.What major obstacle did Jane have to overcome?
A.Lack of government support. B.Unstable funding and public doubt.
C.Non-cooperation from local organizations. D.Shortage of volunteers and grants.
27.Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A.Digital Age: the lasting power of reading B.Public Libraries: modern challenges
C.Storybook Maze: books and hopes D.Community Hearts: the value of dedication
根据第二段“With the help of a few friends and a donated shuttle, Jane transformed her vision into a reality. As word spread, people from all walks of life began to flock to her van.(在几位朋友的帮助下以及借助一辆捐赠的班车的协助下,简将她的构想变成了现实。
根据第三段“The impact was far-reaching: children who had never held a book before were now racing through entire series, and adults were rediscovering the joy of reading.(其影响是深远的:那些之前从未接触过书籍的孩子们现在能够一口气读完整个系列的书籍,而成年人也重新找回了阅读的乐趣)”可知,简为图书馆挑选的书籍能让读者全身心地投入阅读。
根据最后一段“Jane faced disbelief from those who doubted the feasibility (可行性) of a mobile library and struggled to find stable funding.(简遭到了那些质疑移动图书馆可行性的人的质疑,而且她也难以找到稳定的资金来源)”可知,简需要克服的最大的障碍是不稳定的资金来源和公众的质疑。
根据第一段“In a world where access to books is often limited by socio-economic barriers, Jane, a dedicated street librarian, is on a mission to change that. Her journey began when she chanced upon a small, makeshift library in a low-income neighborhood run by volunteers. Inspired by their dedication, Jane decided to create a mobile library to reach even more people.(在一个书籍获取往往受限于社会经济条件的环境中,简这位尽职尽责的街道图书管理员正致力于改变这一现状。她的这一行动始于一次偶然的发现:在一个低收入社区,有一座由志愿者管理的小型临时图书馆。受到他们奉献精神的鼓舞,简决定创建一个移动图书馆,以便能服务到更多的人)”结合文章主要说明了简受启发创办流动图书馆Storybook Maze,四处筹书服务弱势人群,藏书贴合社区,虽遇质疑与资金难题仍坚持,用书为当地人带去希望。可知,C选项“Storybook Maze:书籍与希望”最符合文章标题。

Books were stamped with “Human Authored” logos (标识) at this week’s London Book Fair. The Society of Authors described its labelling as “an important logo to protect and promote human creativity instead of AI labelled content in the marketplace.”
Visitors to the fair were also given copies of Don’t Steal This Book, a collection of 10,000writers including Nobel winner Kazuo Ishiguro and Richard Osman, in which the pages are completely blank. The back cover states: “The UK government must not legalize book theft to benefit AI companies.”
The empty book is a protest against AI companies using copyrighted works without permission or payment to train their models — and against UK government proposals that could legalize this practice. Organized by Ed Newton-Rex, a composer and copyright campaigner, the project has drawn vast support from the literary world. The AI industry is “built on stolen work” “This is a crime that has victims,” he added, “Generative AI competes with the creators of the works it trains on, taking away their livelihoods.”
The protest comes just a week before the UK government is due to publish an economic impact assessment of proposed changes to copyright law. The government initially proposed a system, under which AI firms could use copyrighted material unless rights holders refused permission — an exact opposite of copyright law’s core principle. Only 3% of people surveyed backed the plan. The government dropped it but is now considering a “commercial research exception” that would still allow AI companies to use works without approval for commercial training.
For the authors behind Don’t Steal This Book, the blank pages are a powerful symbol: they represent the future of writing if AI companies continue to use creative work without payment — a world where authors are left with nothing. As the Society of Authors put it, the empty book is “a stopgap measure” — but the real solution is a copyright system that protects human creativity, not commercial greed.
28.Why were the books stamped with “Human Authored” logos?
A.To show public sympathy for authors. B.To fight AI’s stealing copyrighted works.
C.To promote newly-published works. D.To introduce promising authors.
29.What does the underlined word “victims” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Ordinary readers. B.Literary promotion campaigns.
C.Human writers. D.Generative AI models.
30.What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.The protest weakening UK’s economy.
B.Copyright law enjoying public support.
C.AI firms prioritizing commercial profits.
D.The UK government favoring AI companies.
31.How does the Society of Authors view the empty book?
A.It is a band-aid fix B.It stands the test of time.
C.It is a game changer. D.It works once and for all.
【答案】28.B 29.C 30.D 31.A
根据第一段中的“The Society of Authors described its labelling as “an important logo to protect and promote human creativity instead of AI labelled content in the marketplace.”(英国作家协会将该标识描述为保护和弘扬人类创作力、抵制市场中AI标注内容的重要标识。)”
根据第三段中的“The AI industry is “built on stolen work” “This is a crime that has victims,” he added, “Generative AI competes with the creators of the works it trains on, taking away their livelihoods.”(人工智能行业建立在被盗用的作品之上,这一行为存在受害者;生成式AI与被训练作品的创作者竞争,夺走了他们的生计。)”
根据第四段中的“The government initially proposed a system, under which AI firms could use copyrighted material unless rights holders refused permission — an exact opposite of copyright law’s core principle. (英国政府最初提出一项制度,除非版权所有者拒绝,否则AI公司可使用版权作品,这与版权法核心原则完全相悖。)”可知,第四段主要讲述英国政府出台相关政策倾向于偏袒AI公司。

Scientists have taken to the salon (美发厅) after realising hairdressers may be an “under-recognised” force in fueling climate action. Alongside their craft, hairdressers are known for their conversation skills, who often act as an agony aunt, adviser and friend rolled into one. New research from the University of Bath’s Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformation (CAST) reveals this is what makes hair salons centers of trust that could be used to encourage conversations around climate change.
The research team interviewed 30 UK salon owners about sustainability, and then ran a nationwide intervention in 25 sustainable salons using Mirror Talkers, where eco-tips are placed on salon mirrors to engender discussions on sustainable haircare practices.
“The carbon footprint of shampoo (洗发水) is mostly in the hot water used,” says Denise Baden of the University of Southampton. “Simple messages like ‘most of us use too much shampoo and shampoo too often’ can spark conversations about how shampooing less and at lower temperatures saves time, money, energy, water and is better for your skin and hair.”
The study found nearly 73% of salon clients were likely to change their haircare routines after conversations sparked by the Mirror Talkers, some even switching to eco-friendly products, using cooler water, and adopting greener habits at home.
Researchers say this demonstrates how hairdressers have an “untapped ability” to weave climate change into everyday conversations and actions. They are now urging policymakers to roll out tools like Mirror Talkers nationally. “If we’re serious about building a public movement for climate action, then it’s time to invest in these unsung influencers because real change starts in everyday conversations,” says Dr Sam Hampton of CAST.
Matilda Collins, a senior director and stylist, says the Mirror Talkers initiative could gain positive outcomes if the experience “feels natural and engages clients without being overly virtuous”. She adds, “Ultimately, the trust a stylist builds with the client is what will drive potential positive changes in behaviour. It could be a great education platform and a conversation starter, however.”
32.What does the underlined word “engender” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Stimulate. B.Maintain. C.Simplify. D.Control.
33.What is the focus of the third paragraph?
A.The importance of saving water. B.The harm of overusing shampoo.
C.The function of eco-tips in salons. D.The strategy of starting conversations.
34.What can we infer from Dr Sam Hampton’s words?
A.Sound policies encourage investment.
B.Daily conversations can make a difference.
C.Unsung influencers need professional training.
D.Mirror Talkers has gained nationwide popularity.
35.Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Salons: Overlooked Centers to Build Trust
B.Haircare: A Hidden Source of Carbon Footprint
C.Mirror Talkers: A Platform to Show Fashion Trends
D.Hairdressers: Secret Weapons Against Climate Change
【答案】32.A 33.C 34.B 35.D
根据划线词所在句“where eco-tips are placed on salon mirrors to engender discussions on sustainable haircare practices (将环保小贴士贴在美发厅镜子上,以engender关于可持续护发实践的讨论)”和下文第三段中“Simple messages... can spark conversations about how shampooing less and at lower temperatures saves time, money, energy, water and is better for your skin and hair. (简单的信息……可以引发关于减少洗发频率和降低洗发水温如何节省时间、金钱、能源、水以及对皮肤和头发更有益的对话)”可知,环保小贴士的目的是“引发”或“激起”讨论。故划线词engender意为“引发;激起”,与“Stimulate”同义。
33.主旨大意题。根据第三段““The carbon footprint of shampoo (洗发水) is mostly in the hot water used,” says Denise Baden of the University of Southampton. “Simple messages like ‘most of us use too much shampoo and shampoo too often’ can spark conversations about how shampooing less and at lower temperatures saves time, money, energy, water and is better for your skin and hair.”
根据第五段中Sam Hampton的话“If we’re serious about building a public movement for climate action, then it’s time to invest in these unsung influencers because real change starts in everyday conversations (如果我们真的想发起一场公众参与的气候行动运动,那么现在就该投资于这些默默无闻的影响者,因为真正的改变始于日常的对话)”可知,Sam Hampton博士认为日常对话可以产生影响。
通读全文,结合第一段“Scientists have taken to the salon (美发厅) after realising hairdressers may be an “under-recognised” force in fueling climate action. (科学家们开始关注美发厅,因为他们意识到理发师可能是推动气候行动的一支“未被充分认识”的力量)”以及第五段“Researchers say this demonstrates how hairdressers have an “untapped ability” to weave climate change into everyday conversations and actions.
Mistakes are an unavoidable part of life. They can range from minor errors to significant missteps that change our life’s direction. Instead of getting lost in regret, it’s crucial to learn how to heal and grow from those experiences. 36 Here are the tips you can try the next time you want to forgive yourself.
Understand the impact of past mistakes.
Past mistakes often leave emotional marks. Feelings such as guilt, shame, and regret can overshadow our lives. Recognizing how these emotions affect us is the first step to healing. It’s vital to remember that making mistakes is a normal part of being human. 37 Embracing this shared experience can help you approach it with understanding rather than harsh judgment.
38
Releasing guilt and shame is essential for healing. These negative feelings can trap you in a loop of self-blame. To break free, start by reflecting on your mistake and its consequences. Self-compassion is key. Treat yourself as you would treat a friend who made a similar mistake. Remind yourself that everyone fails and that your past actions do not define your worth.
Learn from mistakes.
Every error comes with a lesson. Identifying these lessons is crucial. Spend time analyzing what went wrong. For instance, if poor time management led to missing a deadline at work, consider strategies to improve this skill. 39 Write about the mistake and the lessons learned. This not only helps you think clearly but also creates a record of your growth.
Embrace change and move forward.
After releasing guilt and learning from errors, it’s time to embrace change. Set new, realistic goals based on your lessons learned. This could be as simple as committing to improving a specific skill within three months. 40 For example, if you want to enhance your decision-making skills, practice making small, low-risk decisions daily. This will build your confidence over time.
A.Practice mindfulness.
B.Let go of guilt and shame.
C.Everyone messes up at some point.
D.Easier said than done though, right?
E.Consider adopting supportive habits.
F.Life is a mixture of pleasure and pain.
G.Journaling can be a useful tool for this.
上文“Instead of getting lost in regret, it’s crucial to learn how to heal and grow from those experiences.(与其沉浸在后悔中,不如学会如何从这些经历中治愈和成长)”提出要从错误中自愈成长,下文“Here are the tips you can try the next time you want to forgive yourself.(以下是你下次想要原谅自己时可以尝试的技巧)”引出具体建议,空处承上启下,前后语义形成转折,说明道理易懂但实操困难。
37.上文“It’s vital to remember that making mistakes is a normal part of being human.(重要的是要记住,犯错是人类正常的一部分)”提及犯错很正常,空处和前文为解释顺接关系,呼应人类都会犯错的共性。
38.下文“Releasing guilt and shame is essential for healing. These negative feelings can trap you in a loop of self-blame. To break free, start by reflecting on your mistake and its consequences. Self-compassion is key. Treat yourself as you would treat a friend who made a similar mistake. Remind yourself that everyone fails and that your past actions do not define your worth. (释放内疚和羞耻感对于治愈至关重要。这些负面情绪会让你陷入自责的循环。要想挣脱束缚,首先要反思你的错误及其后果。自我同情是关键。像对待犯过类似错误的朋友一样对待自己。提醒自己,每个人都会失败,你过去的行为并不能定义你的价值)”说明整段讲述放下内疚和羞愧、停止自我指责。空处统领本段主旨,概括段落核心内容。所以B项“放下内疚与羞愧”契合段落主题。
39.上文“For instance, if poor time management led to missing a deadline at work, consider strategies to improve this skill.(例如,如果时间管理不善导致错过工作截止日期,考虑采取策略来提高这项技能)”说明可以通过写日记来分析错误,空处和前文为递进关系,引出记录反思的方式。
40.上文“This could be as simple as committing to improving a specific skill within three months.(这可能很简单,比如在三个月内致力于提高一项特定技能)”说明要设定目标并致力于提高技能,下文“For example, if you want to enhance your decision-making skills, practice making small, low-risk decisions daily. This will build your confidence over time.(例如,如果你想提高你的决策能力,每天练习做出小而低风险的决定。随着时间的推移,这将建立你的信心)”举例通过日常小决定培养能力、建立自信。空处顺接前文,和后文为总述与举例关系,引出具体行动方式,所以E项“考虑养成有益的习惯。”符合语境。

67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Adam loved football. He loved the smell of the grass as he slid across it. And he loved the excitement when he shot the ball into the net. There was nothing in this world that could weigh the same as football in his heart. He dreamed of growing up to be a professional footballer.
Every day Adam would go to the field and practise with his friends. He still remembered when he asked to join the older boys, they teased (取笑) him, “You’re too small. Football is for big, tough players, not for someone your size.” Then when they saw he could run, kick, and shoot as well as they could, the teasing stopped. Adam played hard and really had a gift. He even became the only one in the group who could do the bicycle kick
One day after school, Adam went to the playground to practise as usual. The boys were talking quietly, casting excited glances at a man who was watching the field. As Adam joined the group, Captain Harold told him the man, called Mr. Smith, was looking for players for his football camp and there would be a tryout match the next day. Adam could hardly contain his excitement. The camp meant there would be professional coaches to train him! He would do anything to join it.
After the practice, Mr. Smith approached and Adam crowded close so he could see him. “Who wants to come to my football camp and really learn to play this game?” Mr. Smith asked. Excited hands shot up. Mr. Smith shook them all and shook Adam’s hand last.
“Little man, I saw you run fast,” he said. “But you are far too thin and short for my camp. You’ll get knocked down in a second.”
Adam looked down so no one would see his disappointment. “It’s not fair! Adam’s been practising with us and he’s the only one who ever did the bicycle kick!” Harold argued.

Inspired, Adam decided to seize the opportunity. Gathering all his courage, Adam stepped up, looked directly at Mr. Smith and said, “Sir, I really love football and I’ve got tired of hearing people say I’m too small to play. Actually I could do as well as the big boys and even better!” Hearing Adam’s words, Mr. Smith raised his eyebrows and thought for a while. Seeing Mr. Smith hesitate slightly, Adam begged him sincerely for a chance. Finally, Mr. Smith nodded and told him to come the next day.
The next day Adam came to the tryout. The players were divided into two groups and Adam ran actively through the field, seeking a chance to goal. Soon, Harold passed him the ball! Adam positioned himself, jumped as high as he could and kicked the ball with his head down. The ball flew directly into the net! A perfect bicycle kick! When Mr. Smith announced the qualified players, Adam’s heart pounded fiercely. Hearing his name, he hugged Harold and jumped with excitement.

My logo for World Smile Day activities
My logo is a bright yellow sun with a big smiling face in the center. Around the sun, there are colorful arcs. They represent different cultures and nations. The sun represents warmth and joy, which are the key meanings of World Smile Day. The smiling face encourages people to share happiness with others, no matter where they come from. The colorful arcs show that a smile is a universal language that links everyone in the world. Through this design, I hope to remind people that a simple smile can bring light to someone’s day and bridge any gap between us.

A.Digital Age: the lasting power of reading B.Public Libraries: modern challenges

D
