Good afternoon, I’m Ella. My blog is about clothes for students. I didn’t get many hits at first, but one newspaper wrote something about me and more people started to look at the blog. Then a local TV channel interviewed me for a program. Since then, the blog has developed even faster. So I’m no longer working alone. A photographer agreed to take some shots for the site to better show the clothes. My brother Eden offered to be my model. I also considered hiring a makeup artist. Luckily, Bonnie, my talented friend, helped me. I make sure I include all kinds of clothes to suit a range of tastes for my readers. I try to think about their budgets, too. Most of the clothes I talk about are readily available. As well as showing the latest styles, I also feature classic clothes I’ve found in second-hand shops. Believe it or not, those from the 1920s are the richest sources of ideas for my recent blog posts. Although people enjoyed the clothes from the 1970s most, I also got positive comments about stuff from the 1980s.

In 2009, American composer Eric Whitacre got a wonderful idea. One day at home, he watched a fan’s video that surprised him deeply. A girl named Britlin was singing his composition Sleep alone in her bedroom with a simple web camera. It struck Whitacre that music could bridge the gap between people from different cultures.
Thus the Virtual Choir (虚拟合唱团) was started. Whitacre posted a call online, asking people worldwide to record themselves singing the piece Lux Aurumque and send it to him. He had expected about 50 videos, but received 185 from 12 countries. His team spent much time editing the videos, and the final video was uploaded in 2010. It showed many singers on screen performing together from thousands of miles apart and soon went viral.
The project grew rapidly. Later, over 2,000 singers from 58 countries submitted videos. A farmer in Nebraska sang alongside a student in Tokyo. Even though they had never met, they created beautiful and touching music together.
Yet there were many challenges. Submissions were in different formats and sound quality varied greatly. Some failed to keep the beat, others had background noise. The team spent months producing and matching the videos patiently. Besides technical problems, singing alone in front of a camera also felt unnatural for many singers. “You have to imagine everyone else,” explained James Green. “You can’t hear them. You have to believe they’re there. It’s an act of faith.”
In 2020, Whitacre organized and led the Virtual Choir’s biggest event, featuring over 17,000 singers from 129 countries. Its theme was “May we sing together, though we are apart.”
Whitacre believes the project shows a basic human need. We all want to be part of something bigger and meaningful. The Virtual Choir uses modern technology to carry on the tradition of singing together and connects people worldwide through the power of music.
24. What inspired Eric Whitacre to create the Virtual Choir?
A. A request from a famous singer. B. A pleasant talk with music lovers.
C. A successful choir performance. D. A video of a girl singing his work.
25. What can be inferred from Paragraph 2?
A. Whitacre undervalued public interest. B. Most singers came from Europe.
C. Whitacre had done such projects before. D. The editing work was quite easy.
26. What were the key difficulties for the Virtual Choir?
A. Technical trouble and personal discomfort. B. Lack of singers and poor internet.
C. Language barriers and time zone differences. D. High costs and long editing time.
27. What does Whitacre stress in the last paragraph?
A. The modern world offers more challenges to music fans.
B. Technology helps an old practice continue in new forms.
C. The Virtual Choir is a highly advanced musical invention.
D. The Virtual Choir is more popular than the traditional ones.
D 25. A 26. A 27. B
根据第一段中“One day at home, he watched a fan’s video that surprised him deeply. A girl named Britlin was singing his composition Sleep alone in her bedroom with a simple web camera. It struck Whitacre that music could bridge the gap between people from different cultures.(有一天,在家里,他看了一段粉丝的视频,这让他大吃一惊。
根据第四段中“Submissions were in different formats and sound quality varied greatly. Some failed to keep the beat, others had background noise. The team spent months producing and matching the videos patiently. Besides technical problems, singing alone in front of a camera also felt unnatural for many singers.(提交的文件格式不同,音质差异很大。有些没有跟上节奏,有些有背景噪音。该团队花了几个月的时间耐心地制作和匹配视频。除了技术问题,许多歌手在镜头前独自唱歌也感觉不自然)”可知,主要困难包括技术问题和个人不适感。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“The Virtual Choir uses modern technology to carry on the tradition of singing together and connects people worldwide through the power of music.(虚拟合唱团利用现代技术延续了一起唱歌的传统,并通过音乐的力量连接了全世界的人们)”可知,Whitacre强调的是技术帮助古老的合唱传统以新形式延续。
C
Nothing says “proud homeowner” like a clean, green lawn. A clean lawn shows your care and earns your neighbors’ admiration. Every autumn, millions of homeowners reach for their garden tools. They gather fallen leaves, bag them, and send them away. However, this tidy appearance comes at a cost. A growing movement of environmentalists suggests we simply leave the leaves instead of sending them to landfills.
If leaves are buried in landfills, they break down without oxygen and give off harmful greenhouse gases, contributing to global warming. In fact, yard waste makes up about 13% of what we throw away. Some people burn leaf piles instead. But this releases harmful chemicals into the air and creates fire risks, especially in dry conditions.
So what happens when we leave the leaves? The benefits are significant. Leaf litter shelters insects, spiders and other small creatures, offering critical winter habitats for many species as noted by the Xerces Society. The National Wildlife Federation’s “Leave the Leaves” program adds that butterflies, bees and other insects rely on fallen leaves for protection.
Leaves are also natural plant food. As they break down, they release nutrients into the soil. This helps grass stay green and healthy without chemical products. Many universities recommend cutting leaves into small pieces with a lawn mower (割草机) and leaving them on the grass rather than removing them.
This autumn, consider seeing your leaves differently. They are not trash to remove but a resource to keep. Move them into garden beds. Run over them with a mower to break them into small pieces. Let them accumulate in quiet corners of your yard. These simple actions reduce pollution, support wildlife, and nourish (滋养) your soil. Sometimes the best thing we can do for the planet is also the easiest: just leave the leaves.
28. What do homeowners generally think of a clean lawn?
A. It increases workload. B. It is good for wildlife. C. It needs deep thinking. D. It is a source of pride.
29. What problem do leaves in landfills cause?
A. They produce greenhouse gases. B. They start big fires easily.
C. They hurt small insects in the soil. D. They pollute soil directly.
30. What is a benefit of leaf litter?
A. It makes grass clean. B. It offers wildlife shelter.
C. It reduces yard waste. D. It kills harmful chemicals.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. A Threat Posed by Burning Leaves. B. A Smart Guide to A Clean Lawn.
C. The Hidden Gifts of Autumn Leaves. D. The Importance of Garden Wildlife.
D 29. A 30. B 31. C
根据第一段中“Nothing says “proud homeowner” like a clean, green lawn. A clean lawn shows your care and earns your neighbors’ admiration.(没有什么比干净的绿草坪更能说明“自豪的房主”了。干净的草坪展示你的用心并赢得邻居的赞赏)”可知,房主通常认为干净的草坪是骄傲的来源。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“If leaves are buried in landfills, they break down without oxygen and give off harmful greenhouse gases, contributing to global warming.(如果树叶被埋在垃圾填埋场,它们会在缺氧条件下分解并释放有害的温室气体,导致全球变暖)”可知,填埋场中的树叶会产生温室气体。
根据第三段中“Leaf litter shelters insects, spiders and other small creatures, offering critical winter habitats for many species as noted by the Xerces Society.(落叶层为昆虫、蜘蛛和其他小生物提供了庇护所,正如Xerces协会所指出的那样,为许多物种提供了关键的冬季栖息地)”可知,落叶的好处是为野生动物提供庇护所。
D
When disaster strikes, such as an earthquake, building collapse or fire, every second counts. But entering dangerous places means risking lives. Scientists are developing humanoid (类人的) robots for rescue.
In Europe, the WALK-MAN project creates a robot that can walk over debris, twisted metal, and fallen walls left after earthquakes or building collapses. It can also open doors and use tools. What makes WALK-MAN special is its advanced perception system, which allows it to see, feel, and keep balance where humans would struggle. In Singapore, HTX is pushing humanoid robotics further. By mid-2027, these robots will work alongside emergency responders. Standing 1.7 metres tall, they are built for firefighting, handling dangerous materials, and search-and-rescue. Controlled remotely at first, they are expected to operate on their own by 2029. In China, researchers are making rapid progress in humanoid robotics for disaster response. These robots are designed to work in teams, with some carrying sensors to detect trapped victims while others clear paths through rubble (瓦砾).
What makes these robots truly useful is their ability to use human tools. Unlike wheeled robots that get stuck on stairs, humanoid robots can climb, open doors, and operate equipment made for people. They carry sensors that detect body heat, listen for voices, and map unfamiliar spaces in real time.
Yet the challenges remain significant. Power supply is a major limitation. Most humanoid robots can only operate for one to two hours before needing to recharge, which is far from enough in large-scale disasters. Communication networks often fail in disaster zones, cutting off the connection between robots and their human operators. When that happens, robots must rely on their own artificial intelligence to make decisions, but programming a machine to keep its balance on shifting rubble while searching for victims is enormously complex.
Despite these difficulties, researchers worldwide are making steady progress, driven by a single goal: to reach the unreachable and save lives where humans cannot go.
32. What does the underlined word “debris” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Large rescue machines. B. Dangerous chemicals. C. Broken building pieces. D. Open building spaces.
33. What advantage do humanoid robots have over wheeled robots?
A. They can work long without charging. B. They are easy to mass-produce.
C. They have sensors to detect disasters. D. They can operate human tools.
34. What is the major challenge mentioned about humanoid robots?
A. They cut off AI assistance. B. They have limited battery life.
C. They fail to work intelligently. D. They lack ability to keep balance.
35. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To compare robots from different countries. B. To explain how humanoid robots are built.
C. To argue that robots should replace humans. D. To introduce robots that help in disasters.
C 33. D 34. B 35. D

When you think of jogging, you probably imagine people running at a steady, energetic pace. But have you ever heard of running at a snail’s pace on purpose? ____36____
Slow jogging has gained worldwide popularity because it solves a common problem that many runners push too hard and end up getting hurt. After decades of research, scientists have found running at a conversational pace is ideal. ____37____ In other words, you get all the rewards of running without wearing down your body. That is exactly where slow jogging shows its biggest advantage.
The technique itself is surprisingly simple. You run at about 2-4 kilometers per hour, which is actually slower than many people walk. ____38____ Remember to use short, quick steps so your feet barely leave the ground. This significantly reduces the impact on your knees and joints, making the movement gentle on the body.
____39____ Studies show that slow jogging for 30 minutes a day, five times a week, can improve heart health, lung function, and even help with weight control. Because it is so gentle, older adults, beginners, and even people recovering from injuries can join in without fear.
Perhaps the best part is how easy it is to get started. ____40____ Just put on comfortable shoes and head outside. No complicated plans, no pressure to hit a certain speed, but just you and the road. So next time you see someone moving at what looks like a very relaxed run, don’t laugh. They might just be onto something big.

根据后文“Studies show that slow jogging for 30 minutes a day, five times a week, can improve heart health, lung function, and even help with weight control.(研究表明每周五次、每次三十分钟慢慢跑,能改善心肺健康,还有助于控制体重。)”
根据前文“Perhaps the best part is how easy it is to get started.(或许最大的好处是入门十分简单。)”以及后文“Just put on comfortable shoes and head outside.(只需穿上舒适鞋子出门即可。)”可知,空格处说明入门无需特殊条件,D选项“You don’t need any special equipment or a gym membership.(你不需要任何特殊装备,也不用办理健身房会员)”承接入门简单的观点,契合下文内容,符合语境。

Beijing Opera is a national treasure of China with a history of over 200 years. Actors play one of four roles: sheng, male roles; dan, female roles; chou, clown roles; and jing, painted-face roles, each of ____56____ has its own distinct style of performance, costume, and makeup.
In the early days, Beijing Opera ____57____ (perform) on open-air stages in markets, streets, teahouses, or outside temples, often as part of local festivities. Performers wore bright costumes in colourful patterns ____58____ (attract) the audience’s attention, even from a distance.
Symbols play ____59____ very important role in Beijing Opera. Many body movements can represent everyday actions. What audiences admire most is the performers’ ability to move ____61____ (flexible) between different roles. The strategic approach to stagecraft, which has been improved and passed down through ____62____ (generation), requires years of disciplined training to master. A simple gesture, whether touching the beard ____63____ lifting the foot, can express complex emotions like anger, worry, or joy. In other words, every movement in Beijing Opera ____64____ (carry) symbolic meaning.

56. which

故填to attract。
固定搭配play a very important role意为“扮演重要角色;起到重要作用”,very以辅音音素开头,所以用不定冠词a。
固定搭配whether...or...

18-year-old Mia Carter volunteered with the Digital Literacy for Social Inclusion initiative, dedicating her Saturdays to the local community center. There, she offered the old guidance through the digital world — showing how to tell truth from AI-generated fiction, helping access important services with a few careful clicks and so on. Yet one person still struggled: Mr. Arthur Hale, an 82-year-old widower (鳏夫) whose world had slowly shrunk to the quiet rooms of his lonely home.
A smartphone from his granddaughter Lila overseas sat unused on his side table, gathering dust. “It’s too much,” he’d murmur to Mia, his hands—once skilled in the gentle art of gardening — now moving nervously. The digital age had left him behind in clear ways: a missed heart doctor appointment, the ongoing silence where his granddaughter’s laughter should have been, the quiet frustration of struggling with a QR code at the drugstore. The man who once shared pieces from his rose bushes now spent hours looking out the window, as if watching the world speed by like a train he wasn’t on.
Mia understood the real problem was not skill, but heart. For many like Mr. Hale, technology felt less like a tool and more like a sign that they were being ignored, a quiet conversation happening in a place they could no longer join.
One rainy afternoon, she found him staring at his phone’s black screen, a single tear moving slowly down his wrinkled cheek. He had accidentally deleted the last good photo of his beloved wife. “I only wanted to see Lila,” he whispered, the words floating in the still room. “Was that too much to ask?” Mia’s heart ached. She promised him she’d help, not just with the phone, but with letting go of his fear. That evening, she stayed up late, making a simple, step-by-step guide with large pictures and clear words, — just for him.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
On her next day visit, Mia sat beside Mr. Hale and picked up his smartphone.

Weeks later, a digital help corner opened in the community.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
On her next day visit, Mia sat beside Mr. Hale and picked up his smartphone. “Let’s start with what you love,” she said gently, opening the camera. “How about a picture of your roses for Lila?” She guided his trembling hands, turning taps into familiar gestures — like tending to buds. “Just tap this, and you’ll see Lila,” she said softly. Mr. Hale’s hands shook as he followed her steps. The screen lit up, and his granddaughter’s face appeared. “Grandpa!” she cried. For a minute, he couldn’t speak, just staring and smiling through tears. He asked about her life, showed her his rose garden, and even learned to send a heart emoji. When the call ended, he squeezed Mia’s hand: “Thank you for bringing my granddaughter back to me.”
Weeks later, a digital help corner opened in the community. Mia invited other college volunteers, and they tailored lessons to the elderly: how to book doctor’s appointments online, scan QR codes, and even use AI to edit garden photos. Mr. Hale became a volunteer too, teaching his friends what he’d learned. One day, he showed Mia a short video he’d made of his roses, with a voice over saying, “Thank you for not leaving us behind, but with us letting go of fear.” The digital divide wasn’t just about skills — it was about care. In the digital age, Mia realized, kindness was the best bridge between generations.

A. This practice is known as “slow jogging”.
B. Slow jogging is of great benefit to your mind.
C. The health benefits go far beyond injury prevention.
D. You don’t need any special equipment or a gym membership.
E. Getting started requires health awareness and great determination.
F. The key skill is to land on the middle of your foot rather than your heel.
G. This pace provides health benefits while carrying a lower risk of injury.

注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
On her next day visit, Mia sat beside Mr. Hale and picked up his smartphone.
