六、阅读理解
Different lakes have different colours. According to a study, around one-third of the world’s lakes were blue. However, global warming may turn them into green or even brown.
Xiao Yang from Southern Methodist University in the US and his team looked at the colour of over 85,000 lakes based on their satellite (卫星) photos. They found that lakes in places with cooler average summer air temperatures—below 19℃—were more likely (可能的) to be blue than lakes in places with warmer summers.
The study said that water molecules (分子) absorb (吸收) the long wavelengths (波长) from the sunlight, such as red, orange, and yellow. They leave behind the shorter ones, making a lake look green and blue. So, the cleaner the water is, the bluer it looks. In warmer lakes, algae (水藻) and phytoplankton (浮游植物) grow easily. Their colours are green and even brown. They give the lake a different colour. If the temperature goes on to rise because of climate change, the study said that one in ten blue lakes might change colour.
Humans get their drinking water from lakes, streams and ground water. As lakes become greener, people may lose lots of clean water. Because of this, treating the water of such lakes becomes more expensive. At the same time, blue lakes are also a source of a place to play. Some people, according to Catherine Oreilly, a co-author of the study, considered blue lakes as a refuge (避难所) or spiritual (精神上的) place. As these blue lakes disappear, they may feel sad. For lake animals, the development of algae and phytoplankton in greener lakes can provide more food. However, more algae and phytoplankton mean less oxygen for the lake animals, and this may kill them.
( )1. What turns lakes from blue into green or even brown?
A. The changes in water. B. The rising temperatures globally.
C. The study. D. A team in the US.
( )2. As the lakes turn brown, people will _______?

A. 招待 B. 来源 C. 解决 D. 排放

A. An officer in a refuge. B. A spiritual teacher.
C. A worker in the study team. D. A player in the lake.

It is impossible to name all Chinese customs in a single article. Even so, in this passage we bring you several Chinese customs and traditions that you should know. Here we go!
Chinese usually do not show their feelings openly, and they also avoid any unnecessary body touch. The Chinese don’t like it when people kiss each other on the face, even if they are women. In fact, shaking hands was also not so acceptable in the past. For them, it is enough to make a small nod when greeting. As the country gradually (逐渐地) lets Western traditions in, people are used to shaking hands to greet.
Many table manners must be followed strictly at meals. Some details should be paid much attention to by both guests and hosts. In China, the older guests are always seated first, and then others can take their seats. Table manners are also very important. You should never serve yourself a drink. It should be served by someone else. Chopsticks should never be placed upwards in food. Never move your mouth away from your own bowl while eating.
The Chinese have the habit and skill of being able to take a nap (小睡) at certain times and on certain occasions. It doesn’t matter if it’s on the break from work or on a bench in the park. This Chinese custom has nothing to do with laziness, quite the opposite. In China, taking a nap in public places is considered a symbol of effort. For example, thousands and millions of netizens (网民) will give a photo of a sleeping doctor in the corner of the operating room a “like” to show their respect to the doctor. So, this person has been putting a lot of effort into his work and it is right that he should sleep as he likes.
Many of you have already known it’s polite not to open gifts in public. But that’s not the only important thing to know when receiving gifts in China. For example, the Chinese will always refuse your gift up to three times to show they are well-educated. But in the end, they’re willing to accept it. And remember not to receive the gift with only one hand.
