First, the headmaster gave a presentation about the dangers the environment is facing nowadays and what each of us can do to protect it. Then our history teacher divided our class into three groups. Each group had a teacher as a leader. I was a member of the first group. We spent over two hours going around the neighborhood putting up posters about environmental protection. It was very cold and we got very tired, but we all felt very proud of ourselves. The second group was responsible for cleaning the streets around the school. They picked up all the rubbish on the streets, and they also put two rubbish bins at the school gate. The third group was asked to plant flowers in the schoolyard. When they grow, I’m sure our schoolyard will look very beautiful. When we all finished what we had to do, we gathered in the schoolyard again. The headmaster and our teachers thanked us and gave each of us a bag made of waste paper.

Ever since my childhood, I have been hearing people talking about Rome. Last month, I finally had the chance to visit it. I spent three busy days there, seeing tourist attractions and walking down streets lit by Christmas decorations. There are so many things I love about the city.
Rome is one of the most ancient cities in the world and is full of wonderful relics (遗迹) from its long past. These relics include the vast Coliseum (竞技场) where gladiators used to fight each other until death and hunt animals coming from another country. The ruins of buildings and temples are fascinating: you can’t quite believe how old they are.
I studied the masterpieces of the Renaissance (文艺复兴) at university and was very excited to see them in real life. I walked around the museum in the Vatican and saw plenty of famous sculptures. The best part of the visit was, without doubt, the Sistine Chapel ceiling, painted in the early 16th century by Michelangelo. It was so breathtaking that I couldn’t tear my eyes away from it.
In Rome, there is a lot of food on offer for tourists but some of it isn’t of very good quality. I made an effort to find reliable restaurants to taste the popular meals of the region, like pasta with tomato, onion and bacon. I also love eating ice cream and hot chocolate under the Christmas lights.
Rome has not only lots of luxury boutiques(精品店) but also plenty of shops that were more in my price range! It was a perfect opportunity to go and buy presents for my family and friends. There was also a Christmas market, where I bought a sparkly decoration for the tree.
24. What does the underlined word “gladiators” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Athletes. B. Butcher. C. Invaders. D. Fighters.
25. Why did the author think the ruins of buildings and temples fascinating?
A. They represent Rome’s religion.
B. They are very old and valuable things.
C. They are relics from Rome’s distant past.
D. They include the Roman Forum and the vast Coliseum.
26. What should you be careful in choosing while visiting Rome?
A. The attractions. B. The food. C. The hotels. D. The luxury shops.
27. Where is the text most likely from?
A. A travel guide. B. A novel. C. A newspaper. D. A science fiction.
D 25. C 26. B 27. A
以及划线词后面的内容“used to fight each other until death and hunt animals coming from another country. (过去常常互相厮杀,猎杀来自另一个国家的动物。)”可知,此处表示作者看到的是古罗马时期的斗兽场遗迹,因此在竞技场中,角斗士们即战士们在此互相厮杀以及猎杀别国的动物。划线词与D选项“Fighters(斗士们)”为同义词。
根据第二段中“The ruins of buildings and temples are fascinating: you can’t quite believe how old they are.(建筑和寺庙的废墟令人着迷:你简直不敢相信它们有多古老。)”
根据第四段中“In Rome, there is a lot of food on offer for tourists but some of it isn’t of very good quality. (在罗马,有很多食物提供给游客,但有些食物的质量不是很好。)”可知,在罗马,有很多食物提供给游客,但有些食物的质量不是很好,因此作者建议当游览罗马时,要小心选择食物。故选B。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。通读全文,文章介绍了作者去罗马旅游的经历,包括观赏古罗马的建筑遗迹、欣赏文艺复兴时期的艺术杰作,品尝当地美食,购买礼品等。因此推断文章出自于一篇旅游指南。故选A。
C
When we are young, we learn that tigers and sharks are dangerous animals. We might be scared of them because they are big and powerful. As we get older, however, we learn that sometimes the most dangerous animals are also the smallest. In fact, the animal that kills the most people is one that you are familiar with: the mosquito (蚊子).
While it may seem that all mosquitoes are biters, this is not actually the case. Male mosquitoes eat plant nectar. On the other hand, female mosquitoes feed on animal blood. When a female mosquito bites a human being, it transmits (传播) saliva (唾液) into the blood. This saliva may or may not contain a deadly disease. The result of the bite can be minor or as serious as death.
Because a mosquito can bite many people in its life, it can carry deadly diseases from one person to another very easily. More than 700 million people become sick from these diseases every year. At least 2 million of these people die from these diseases.
In some households, mosquito nets are placed over beds to protect people from being bitten. Mosquitoes have many natural enemies, like bats, birds, dragonflies, and certain kinds of fish. Bringing more of these animals into places where mosquitoes live might help to cut down the number of mosquitoes in that area. This is a natural solution, but it does not always work very well. Mosquitoes can also be killed with poisons or sprays, but these sprays may also harm other plants or animals.
Although mosquitoes may not seem as scary as larger, more powerful animals, they are far more dangerous to human beings. But things are changing. It is highly likely that one day scientists will find a way to keep everyone safe from mosquitoes and the diseases they carry.
28. Why does the text mention dangerous animals like tigers and sharks?
A. To compare different animals.
B. To lead into the topic about mosquitoes.
C. To show how dangerous tigers and sharks are.
D. To show people’s misunderstanding of dangerous animals.
29. What can we learn about mosquitoes?
A. Female mosquitoes might transmit diseases to humans.
B. The saliva of female mosquitoes contains deadly diseases.
C. Male mosquitoes and female mosquitoes have the same eating habits.
D. More than 700 million people die from diseases carried by mosquitoes.
30. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. Scientists are making efforts to kill mosquitoes.
B. Some measures are taken to kill mosquitoes.
C. Chemical solutions for mosquitoes are effective.
D. Mosquitoes’ natural enemies could protect human beings.
31. What’s the author’s attitude towards the future of solving the mosquito problem?
A. Doubtful. B. Negative. C. Unclear. D. Positive.
B 29. A 30. B 31. D
根据第一段“When we are young, we learn that tigers and sharks are dangerous animals. We might be scared of them because they are big and powerful. As we get older, however, we learn that sometimes the most dangerous animals are also the smallest. In fact, the animal that kills the most people is one that you are familiar with: the mosquito (蚊子). (小时候我们学到老虎和鲨鱼是危险的动物,我们可能因为它们庞大而强大而害怕它们。然而,随着我们长大,我们认识到有时最危险的动物也是最小的。事实上,杀死人类最多的动物是你熟悉的:蚊子。)”可知,第一段以猛兽引出蚊子话题。故选B项。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“When a female mosquito bites a human being, it transmits (传播) saliva (唾液) into the blood. This saliva may or may not contain a deadly disease. (雌蚊叮咬时向血液注入唾液,唾液可能携带致命病菌。)”可知,雌蚊可能传播疾病。故选A项。
根据第四段“In some households, mosquito nets are placed over beds to protect people from being bitten.
根据末段“It is highly likely that one day scientists will find a way to keep everyone safe from mosquitoes and the diseases they carry. (科学家很可能终有一天会让大家免受蚊子以及它们携带疾病之害。)”可知,作者对未来持积极态度。故选D项。
D
Sunscreen (防晒霜) is important for keeping skin safe from sun damage and preventing skin cancer. The chemicals in many sunscreens, however, can be harmful for sea life. This has inspired scientists to develop a new kind of sunscreen made from flower pollen (花粉).
Sunscreen works by using special chemicals that block ultraviolet (UV) light from the Sun’s rays, and people often apply it to their skin before going into the ocean or other natural waterways. But the chemicals are washed off by the water and spread into it, affecting the wildlife that lives there. This is especially harmful for coral reefs (珊瑚礁), which support a wide variety of fish, plants, and other underwater life.
To find an alternative, scientists from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore turned to pollen, which is known to be resistant to UV light. The team prepared water-based gels (凝胶) made from pollen of camellia flowers and sunflowers. Then they tested how well those gels blocked UV light, including both UVA and UVB-wavelengths of UV light -produced by the Sun and tanning beds, that damage skin. Both gels took in UV rays, the team found, but the camellia gel took in more UVB rays, shorter wavelength rays mainly responsible for causing sunburn and skin cancers, than the sunflower gel did. When tested on mice, both gels prevented skin damage when the mice were put in UV light for a few minutes per day. Mice that didn’t receive sunscreen had thinner skin after the same UV experience. The team also put samples of the gels in saltwater tanks containing coral, which still appeared healthy after two months.
“What they’re doing are first steps, but they’re really important first steps,” said Craig Downs, the executive director of Haereticus Environmental Laboratory, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving ecosystems. Some of the next steps might be to assess whether the pollen-based sunscreen is harmful to other wildlife in natural environments, then clear safety tests in humans. “But if they are successful,” Downs added, “in five to eight years, this might be a marketable product.”
32. Why did scientists develop pollen-based sunscreen?
A. For low costs. B. For skin safety.
C. For sea reservation. D. For economic benefits.
33. What can we infer from paragraph 3?
A. Sunflower gel takes in most of the UVB rays.
B. Sunflower gel is responsible for causing skin damage.
C. Camellia gel left the mice with thinner skin than regular sunscreen.
D. Camellia gel is more effective in UV protection than sunflower one.
34. What did Craig Downs think of the pollen-based sunscreen?
A. Profitable. B. Dangerous. C. Demanding. D. Alarming.
35. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the passage?
A. The History of Sunscreen Development.
B. Pollen-Based Sunscreen: A Safe Choice.
C. UV Light: The Main Cause of Skin Damage.
D. The preservation of Coral Reefs from Sunscreen.
C 33. D 34. A 35. B

根据文章第一段“The chemicals in many sunscreens, however, can be harmful for sea life. This has inspired scientists to develop a new kind of sunscreen made from flower pollen (花粉).(然而,许多防晒霜中的化学成分会对海洋生物造成危害,这一问题也启发科学家研发出了一种以花卉花粉为原料的新型防晒霜。)”可知,传统防晒霜中的化学成分会危害海洋生物,这一问题促使科学家研发花粉基防晒霜,其核心目的是保护海洋生态。故选C。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段“Both gels took in UV rays, the team found, but the camellia gel took in more UVB rays, shorter wavelength rays mainly responsible for causing sunburn and skin cancers, than the sunflower gel did.(研究团队发现,两种凝胶均能吸收紫外线,其中山茶花粉凝胶吸收的中波紫外线,要多于向日葵花粉凝胶。中波紫外线是波长更短的紫外线,也是引发皮肤晒伤和皮肤癌的主要诱因。)”可知,两种花粉凝胶均能吸收紫外线,且山茶花粉凝胶比向日葵花粉凝胶吸收更多会导致晒伤和皮肤癌的UVB射线,由此可推断山茶花粉凝胶的防晒效果优于向日葵花粉凝胶。故选D。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章最后一段““What they’re doing are first steps, but they’re really important first steps,” said Craig Downs, the executive director of Haereticus Environmental Laboratory, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving ecosystems. Some of the next steps might be to assess whether the pollen-based sunscreen is harmful to other wildlife in natural environments, then clear safety tests in humans.(非营利性生态保护机构异端环境实验室的执行董事Craig Downs表示:“他们目前开展的研究虽尚处于起步阶段,但却是意义重大的第一步。” 这款花粉防晒霜的后续研究工作,可能会包括评估其是否会对自然环境中的其他野生生物造成危害,随后完成针对人体的安全性检测。Downs补充道:“但如果研究取得成功,未来五到八年内,这款产品有望成为可上市销售的商品。”)”可知,Craig Downs认为花粉基防晒霜的研究如果成功了,在五到八年内,就可能会成为一个可以上市销售的产品。也就是说,这是有利可图的。故选A。

William, a British student interested in Chinese culture, visited Qufu, the hometown of Confucius. He met Xiao Kong on his way to the Temple of Confucius, who was going there ___56___ (meet) her study group. The two teenagers soon started a warm conversation about the local history and traditions.
Xiao Kong introduced that the temple ___57___ (build) in 478 BC to honor Confucius, a great educator and thinker. Confucius is also recognized as ___58___ great philosopher whose ideas have been ___59___ (wide) spread across the world. His teachings ___60___ (shape) Chinese culture for centuries and are still influencing people’s lives now.
As they walked through the courtyard ___61___ (surround) by ancient cypresses, Xiao Kong explained Confucius’ ideas about “benevolence” and “propriety”. She mentioned that Confucius believed every individual should treat others with respect. ___62___ is interesting to note that Confucius has millions of ___63___ (descendant) around the world, and many of them still follow his philosophical principles.
When asked about her favorite Confucian saying, Xiao Kong quoted a classic one, ___64___ (say) it reminds her to keep learning and reflecting. William nodded and said he now understands why Qufu is such a special place — it’s not just about historic sites, but about the living traditions ____65____ connect people to the past.
56. to meet
57. was built
58. a 59. widely
60. have shaped
61. surrounded
62. It 63. descendants
64. saying 65. that##which
此处为“it is+adj.+to do sth.”

I never imagined that my life would be so challenging. As a child, I had a relatively ordinary (普通的) life, and I spent most of my days on the golf course, improving my skills and dreaming of one day becoming a champion golfer. However, little did I know that the road to success would be a long and winding one, and I faced lots of difficulties and disappointments along the way.
I clearly remember the day I turned professional (职业的). I was young, full of hope and ready to take on the world of golf with all my strength. I was looking forward to what the future would bring. However, reality soon set in, and I realized just how challenging the world of professional golf truly was. Despite my best efforts, I struggled to make a name for myself, continuously falling short in games and failing to live up to my own expectations.
Despite the difficulties, I refused to give up on my dreams. I trained harder than ever before, pushing myself to the limit and never losing sight of my goal. I spent countless hours on the course and in the gym, determined to succeed. As time went by, I began to make progress, and I started to see the results of my hard work paying off.
However, just as I thought things were starting to get better, a huge blow struck me. I suffered from a serious disease that threatened to end my life and everything I had treasured. Hearing this, I felt my spirit break into a million pieces and my heart felt heavy as if it had been weighed down by a ton of bricks. For a moment, I felt like everything I had worked so hard for was going away from me.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
But something inside me refused to let go of my dream.

Finally, after a long and painful treatment, I beat the disease.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
But something inside me refused to let go of my dream. I knew that if I gave up now, all my hard work would be for nothing, which was something I couldn’t bear to think about. So, I held on to my dream with every ounce of strength I had left. I did rehabilitation exercises every day, hoping to recover as soon as possible. I also watched golf videos which recorded my past training moments, reminding myself that I would stand on the course again one day. I believed that with my determination and perseverance, I could overcome any obstacle that stood in my way.
Finally, after a long and painful treatment, I beat the disease. When I finally returned to the golf course, I felt a sense of excitement and anticipation that I hadn’t felt in a long time. I knew that the road ahead would still be tough, but I was ready to face whatever challenges came my way. I continued to train hard, and gradually, my skills began to improve. I was no longer the struggling professional golfer I once was; I was a fighter who had overcome adversity and was ready to take on the world once again.

A. Doubtful. B. Negative. C. Unclear. D. Positive.
