I’m sure you’ve all noticed the snowstorm has worsened since we arrived here at 8 a.m. The school staff and I apologize for not realizing how severe this storm would be. We were told there would be 5 cm of snow, but we now have doubled that amount — and it’s expected to reach over 20 cm by 3 p.m. So, what does this mean? This means we have ended the classes now, at 11 a.m. Lunch will still be served in the cafeteria; you may have it now. For senior students who have driven to school, you may drive home, but please be careful. For everyone else, the school buses are coming at noon. You are advised to wait in the cafeteria until then. But please, for everyone in the school, call your parents to tell them your plans. It’s quite dangerous out there right now. And by this evening, we are likely to have almost a meter of snow on the ground. Next, stay tuned for an announcement from our school bus driver, Jamie Johnson. He will share more details about bus schedules and safety advice. Thanks, everyone — and please, stay safe.

For Pu Bingmei, what began as love for the sea has transformed into a lifelong mission: preserving ocean cleanliness, rescuing stranded (搁浅的) whales, and awakening public responsibility.
Growing up in arid Northwest China, the 39-year-old always harbored a longing for the sea. Arriving in Sanya for college in 2007, she recalls crystal-clear water with fish gliding beneath. However, frequent seaside visits exposed a grim reality: certain bays emitted smelly odors, with piled garbage and dark sand. Resolved to remedy the situation, she initiated weekly volunteer cleanups — a commitment that became her full-time devotion to the Blue Ribbon Ocean Conservation Association.
The association, initially fewer than 10 members, operated on a simple belief: the more litter removed from beaches, the less would reach the ocean. Through systematic monitoring, they identified insufficient trash bins and infrequent collection, offering advice to local authorities.
Recognizing the unsustainability of fishing, Pu drew on her tourism management background to chart a new course. She persuaded villagers to abandon fine-mesh nets and cut fishing fleet, introducing wellness tourism. This drove an economic shift, creating over 200 home-stays and local jobs, curbing out-migration.
For Pu, marine conservation extends beach cleaning to saving marine mammals. Rescuing stranded whales is daunting: their bodies are built for water, and land pressure harms them. Improper handling causes secondary injuries. The team taught fishermen proper practices — never pushing stranded animals back — and trained firefighters and divers with rescue kits.
What strikes her most, however, is the surge in public ecological awareness. Whereas people once joined for small gifts;they now participate out of genuine initiative. In 2024, she led China’s first successful rescue of a short-finned pilot whale, with over 100 volunteers holding it upright around the clock to prevent drowning.
“The oceans are connected, ” Pu says. “From picking up trash to inspiring action, concrete deeds and global cooperation truly make a difference. ”
24. What motivated Pu to start weekly cleanups?
A. Her lifelong love for the ocean. B. The awful coastal conditions.
C. The option to join an association. D. Her college education in Sanya.
25. What efforts has Pu made to save the ocean?
A. Rescuing endangered wildlife. B. Training professional rescuers only.
C. Advocating sustainable tourism. D. Resolving the environmental crisis.
26. Why does the author mention the 2024 whale rescue?
A. To report a rare ocean event. B. To celebrate the combined efforts.
C. To introduce a new rescue method. D. To show rising public eco-awareness.
27. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The mission of the Blue Ribbon B. From Sea Lover to Ocean Guardian
C. Tourism Development in Sanya D. A Volunteer Organization's Growth
B 25. C 26. D 27. B

C
Throughout my career as a general therapist and medical educator, the doctor-patient relationship has long been a source of both anxiety and satisfaction. I have pursued psychological training to facilitate communication with my patients and teach medical students empathy and self-reflection. I see my work as a privilege — not in the sense of power, but in appreciation of my patients’ trust.
Recently I read Charlotte Blease’s Dr Bot, which argues that AI could fix virtually all healthcare flaws and that patients would be better off if doctors were laid off and AI put in charge. Her claim strikes me as a smokescreen. She unfairly blames doctors for health system blind spots such as long waiting time in the UK and unequal insurance coverage in the US, while ignoring national imbalances. Worse, she argues against empathy, citing research that it interferes with rational decision-making. But countless studies show empathy boosts patient satisfaction and treatment adherence (坚持).
Blease holds the outdated view that medicine remains a man-dominated profession of fifty years ago. However, doctors’ awareness of the dynamics of gender, race, sexuality and class—as well as other potential biases has risen dramatically in recent years. Medical students in Australia, at least, are now taught self-reflective practice alongside ethics and communication skills.
AI undoubtedly aids medicine, from consultation notes to literature reviews, but it should compensate for, not replace, doctors. As Dhruv Khullar notes, over-reliance risks cognitive deskilling and failure during crises. Today’s AI-literate young doctors, with communication skills, are redefining the profession.
While I do not defend medical overconfidence or avoidable errors, dismissing the entire profession is unreasonable. AI will assist with paperwork, freeing doctors for genuine patient care. As one physician put it, AI should steer you through, not away from, the medical system. Doctors who use AI may replace those who don’t, but AI will never replace human empathy and touch.
28. What does the author mean by “privilege”?
A. Honor from patients’ trust. B. Control over medical resources.
C. Financial reward as a doctor. D. Social status from the medical job.
29. What might Blease agree with?
A. Empathy enhances medical decisions. B. Doctors cause long waiting time.
C. Modern doctors show no racial biases. D. AI can better handle physical exams.
30. What is the purpose of Paragraph 3?
A. To show medical students’ progress. B. To support Blease’s opinion on AI.
C. To challenge Blease’s outdated view. D. To introduce medical ethics teaching.
31. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?
A. Human care is irreplaceable. B. Young doctors reshape medicine.
C. AI makes medical systems worse. D. AI will ultimately replace doctors.
A 29. B 30. C 31. A

Language barriers. Culture shock. Homesickness. These are the things you might worry about before departing to study abroad. ____36____
After a busy year abroad — constantly meeting new people, having new experiences and gaining independence, coming home can feel like an anti-climax Like many other exchange students I found myself living with my parents again after a year abroad. ____37____ At first, I indulged in everything I had always loved about being home: days spent lounging with cups of tea and books, tranquil walks and home-cooked dinners. But once the jetlag subsided (倒过时差), I found myself strangely lacking energy and motivation.
Why was I feeling so disconnected? I realized that I had done two things while I was away: I had idealized home in my mind, and I’d expected everything to remain exactly the same while I was gone. But as I immersed myself in a new culture, I quickly adapted to a different way of life. ____38____ Some friendships had become distant while others had become closer together. On top of that, I felt as if I’d changed too.
____39____. My friend, who studied in France, experienced something similar. She says she found herself asking: “How do I fit back into the life I had before when I feel so different?” So it’s hardly surprising that once it’s over, many exchange students feel at a loose end. It seems odd to me that no one at university warns you about this beforehand.
Getting a part-time job eventually helped ease my own sense of dissociation, as it gave me the structure I needed. ____40____ Readjusting at home has been harder than life abroad. But as I add some of the things I loved about living abroad to my home life, while realizing that there are some feelings I can’t replace, I’m starting to find a new normal.
A. It turned out I wasn’t alone.
B. It forced me to reflect on my identity.
C. Meanwhile, everyone at home changed.
D. It felt like I’d taken several steps backwards.
E. Daily routines formed as my language improved.
F. But for me, returning home proved the hardest of all.
G. Spending more time with family and friends helped too.

Qiaojin Shuangmei, a deputy to the National People’s Congress from Mabian Yi autonomous county, has devoted herself to reviving Yi embroidery. Having been trained by her mother in the childhood, she is a master of the traditional coiled stitch — using two needles simultaneously, one ____56____ (wind) the thread, the other anchoring it, which creates a raised, sculptural effect.
动词emphasizes后接两个并列的宾语从句,第一个从句为no one is poor except those who are lazy,省略了that,第二个从句为that her future efforts will…,含that,连接两个并列的从句需用并列连词and。
between…and…
1.你的选择;

Dear Chris,
Glad to hear you’re participating in the World Earth Day poster contest!

Yours,
Li Hua
Possible Version 1
Dear Chris,
Glad to hear you’re participating in the World Earth Day poster contest! Between the two versions, I highly recommend the first one, “There is no Planet B.”
I prefer this design for two main reasons. Visually, the poster features a crying and sweating Earth, with factory chimneys emitting toxic smoke on its top. It vividly highlights the severe environmental crises we are facing, such as global warming and air pollution. More importantly, the slogan itself is brilliant. By cleverly playing on the phrase “Plan B”, it sends a powerful warning to the public: our planet is irreplaceable, and we have no backup home to escape to. Therefore, we must stop the destruction before it’s too late.
I believe this thought-provoking poster will surely leave a lasting impression on the judges. Best of luck!
Yours,
Li Hua
Possible Version 2
Dear Chris,
Glad to hear you’re participating in the World Earth Day poster contest! Both versions are fantastic, but I favor the second one, “OUR ACTIONS, OUR FUTURE.”
What makes this poster stand out is the perfect combination of its image and slogan. In terms of the image, it presents a hopeful scene where a pair of hands gently holds the Earth. On top of the globe, leafy trees and a bright sun vividly symbolize a green, sustainable future. Moreover, the slogan perfectly matches the drawing. Written entirely in bold capitals, the words create a strong impact, conveying a highly positive message that the destiny of our planet literally lies in our own hands.
I’m sure this inspiring design will shine in the contest and motivate more people to take concrete eco-friendly actions. Good luck!
Yours,
Li Hua

Last summer, we moved into a beautiful house where sunlight flooded the kitchen every morning. The only downside was the backyard: behind tall, messy bushes lay an old pond, dry and smelly. “Let’s bring it back to life!” I suggested. My parents smiled and agreed.
It became our family’s summer project. We cleaned out the mud and lined the edge with pretty stones. At the garden shop, I chose cattails and water lilies. “They float like little umbrellas,” Mum said. “Yes,” I replied proudly, “and they keep the water cool and clean.” Then came the best part: two tiny goldfish — Spotty and Sparkly.
I also asked about a pond heater. I’d read that if the pond froze solid in winter, the fish would run out of oxygen. They needed a small hole in the ice to breathe, which a heater could keep open. But they were sold out. As we left, I noticed a poster listing clever ideas to prevent ice from sealing (封住) the pond — for example, keeping the water moving, since flowing water doesn’t freeze easily. I thought we’d get a heater long before winter, so I didn’t think much of them.
Soon, baby fish appeared! Frogs and butterflies often visited too. Our pond felt like a living ecosystem.
Then one evening, the weather report warned of an early freeze — colder and sooner than usual. My stomach dropped. We still didn’t have a heater! Dad immediately ordered one online. “It’ll arrive before the ice forms,” he promised.
Early the next morning, I woke to a world covered in white. I threw on my coat and ran to the pond. It was frozen with clear ice — no open water! Yet I could still see the fish moving slowly beneath.
I rushed back inside. Dad had already called the delivery company, but they said it wouldn’t arrive today because of the icy roads. “The fish can only last half a day without fresh air!” I cried.
“Let’s think of something now,” Mum said.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;

By nine o’clock, we had built a simple device to keep a hole open in the ice.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
So we started brainstorming ideas together. Dad remembered the poster I’d seen at the garden shop. “Flowing water doesn’t freeze easily,” he said. “But how can we make the water flow?” I wondered. Mum looked around the garage and found an old fountain pump. “Maybe this can work,” she said. We quickly connected the pump to a long tube and placed it in the pond. But when we turned it on, nothing happened. The pump was too old and broken. Just as we were about to give up, I had an idea. “What if we use a stick to break the ice and keep the water moving by hand?”
By nine o’clock, we had built a simple device to keep a hole open in the ice. I tied a long stick to a small plank, creating a kind of paddle. Dad and I took turns gently pushing the plank through the ice-covered water. Mum monitored the fish, making sure they were okay. Every few minutes, we chipped away at the ice around the edges of the hole we’d created. As the day went on, the hole stayed open, and the fish seemed to be breathing easier. When the heater finally arrived the next day, we installed it right away. But that day of working together to save our fish was a memory I’d always cherish.

As the world shifts toward electric vehicles and renewable energy, the demand for high-performance lithium batteries is growing fast. However, traditional manufacturing (制造) methods, which rely on flat layers, often face limits in design and efficiency. Now, researchers are turning to 3D printing to reshape how these essential power sources are made.
A recent review published in Materials Science and Engineering: R: Reports by a team from Tohoku University offers a comprehensive overview of this emerging technology. The study shows that 3D printing can break free from flat designs, allowing engineers to build complex, three-dimensional structures inside batteries. One of the key advantages of 3D printing in the battery manufacturing process is its ability to create complex geometries and customized designs that are impossible with traditional methods.
Moreover, 3D printing enables faster prototyping (原型) and reduces the time and cost required to develop new battery designs. It shortens the path for ions (离子) to travel, improves electron flow, and reduces mechanical stress during charge-discharge cycles. In short, it builds better performance directly into the battery’s architecture.
One promising application of 3D-printed lithium batteries is in electric vehicles. By customizing the battery design to fit the available space in a vehicle frame, manufacturers can increase energy density and extend the driving range. Beyond electric vehicles, 3D-printed lithium batteries also show great potential in portable electronics, grid-scale energy storage, and renewable energy projects. The ability to create lightweight, high-performance batteries through 3D printing is driving innovation across various sectors and contributing to the advancement of sustainable energy technologies.
As 3D printing continues to evolve, the future of lithium batteries looks brighter than ever. Researchers are pushing the boundaries of battery design and manufacturing, drawing on the unique strengths of 3D printing to develop next-generation energy storage solutions that are more efficient, reliable, and eco-friendly. From lab to industry, 3D printing is transforming the way we produce lithium batteries and shaping the future of energy storage.
32. What is the key feature of 3D printing in battery manufacturing?
A. Costly. B. Tailored. C. Complex. D. Standardized.
33. How does 3D printing improve battery performance?
A. By bettering its inner structure. B. By polishing up flat designs.
C. By lengthening ion moving paths. D. By shortening charging time
34. What is a possible use of 3D-printed lithium batteries?
A. Power for medical operations. B. Replacement for solar panels.
C. Storage of hydrogen energy. D. Application in electric vehicles.
35. What is the text mainly about?
A. A review of new lithium batteries. B. 3D printing reshaping battery making.
