Tony, a Senior 2 student at Greenwood High School, walked out of the classroom, his mind still occupied by the theme class meeting. His teacher’s words echoed (回响) in his ears: “True character is revealed not when things are easy, but when you face the consequences of your mistakes. Honesty is the heaviest weight, yet it makes your soul the lightest.” Suddenly, he stopped short, a realization dawning on him. He glanced at his watch and let out a sharp breath. It was his grandfather’s birthday, and he had planned to bake a cake for him personally. Time was pressing!
Anxious not to disappoint his beloved grandfather, Tony grabbed his bicycle and pedaled as fast as he could down the quiet suburban road. The street was unusually deserted, with only the cold wind sweeping the fallen leaves. Lost in the happy thought of the birthday surprise, Tony turned a sharp corner too fast. Crack! A loud, sharp sound froze his blood. He had sideswiped a shiny, black luxury car parked by the roadside.
Tony jumped off, his legs trembling uncontrollably. A long, ugly scratch (划痕) damaged the shiny door of the million-dollar car. Panic seized him like a giant hand. He looked around wildly — the street remained deadly silent. No cameras, no witnesses, just him and the cold wind. Arisky thought flashed through his mind:“Just ride away! No one will ever know. You can still make it home in time for the cake.”
In no time, his foot touched the pedal, ready to flee. But at that critical moment, the teacher’s voice crashed into his mind. Then, he pictured his parents’ earnest faces. They had always taught him that a real man never turns away from responsibility. However, another voice in his head whispered:“Just hurry back home and pretend nothing happened. Your family is not rich, and you can’t afford such a large compensation(赔偿).” He hesitated, his feet rooted to the ground.

2.Sarah woke up excited on Monday morning. She rushed downstairs and quickly ate her breakfast. The smell of coffee and warm toast filled the kitchen, but Sarah was too eager to enjoy the moment. She drank her orange juice in one go and grabbed her backpack.
“Why are you in such a hurry, sweetie?” Dad asked curiously, noticing her haste.
“We will have an important math competition today, Dad,” Sarah replied eagerly, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. “Mrs. White said she’d give wonderful prizes to winners. I’ve been practicing maths all weekend. Even though it’s a tough test, I feel ready for it.”
Dad smiled warmly and patted her hair. “I’m sure you’ll do great, Sarah. Just take your time and stay calm.” Sarah nodded, feeling a surge of confidence. She carefully reviewed her multiplication tables one last time as Mom drove her to school.
Finally, it was time for the test. The classroom was quiet except for the occasional rustle (沙沙声) of papers. “First question:7×8,” Mrs. White announced. Sarah quickly wrote down the answer, feeling confident. She could almost hear her dad’s encouraging words in her head.
“Next:12×9,” Mrs. White continued. “That’s easy,” Sarah thought happily, writing down her answer on the test paper. She glanced around the classroom, seeing her classmates scribbling (乱写) away with serious expressions. But Sarah felt a sense of calm and readiness.
An hour later, Mrs. White collected the papers. “I’ll grade these now,” she told the class. The room was filled with nervous energy as the students awaited the results. After marking, she announced, “Three students earned perfect scores today. Sarah, Michael, and Emma will receive pencil cases!”
Mrs. White praised them and proudly presented the three students each a pencil case. Sarah joyfully received one with beautiful stars — her favorite. She was thrilled and held it up high. “This is the best day ever!” Sarah exclaimed, her face shining with pride.
As Sarah looked over her test, feeling proud, she suddenly paused at one question. The problem “15×7” caught her eye. Her answer didn’t seem right. Sarah anxiously recalculated in her head, “15×7=115,” she whispered nervously. It was incorrect. “What should I do?” Sarah wondered desperately. Looking at the shiny star pencil case, Sarah felt a wave of unease. The day, once bright, now seemed dim, the pencil case feeling like a heavy burden in her backpack.

Lily had a sweet voice and a lovely appearance. Yet she was born extremely shy, always holding back and refusing to display herself in public. She worried constantly that others might look down on her or make fun of her. To avoid being the centre of attention, she remained quiet most of the time and kept a low profile whenever there was any school activity. Secretly, she really admired those confident classmates who were brave enough to express themselves and shine on different occasions.
When the school launched project-based learning, various research groups were set up to carry out different tasks. “Lily, would you like to join our group? We’re going to research the glorious history of our school,” Anna invited her warmly. She explained that the group work was assigned into separate parts; collecting related materials, sorting out useful information, drafting presentation scripts, delivering speeches on camera, and completing video recording, editing as well as online uploading. “I want to take charge of video recording, data sorting and online uploading.” Anna shared her plan excitedly with Lily. Anna was fond of video creation and had rich experience in this field.
Lily smiled from the heart and spoke highly of Anna. “You’re absolutely born for this role,” she said gently. “You’re outgoing, creative and totally passionate about video making. It’s such a perfect chance for you to combine your job with your strengths.”

On the afternoon of my eighteenth birthday, I was driving my dad’s old car around town, feeling absolutely free and excited. The sun was shining, and everything felt perfect. As I made a turn a bit too quickly, the worst thing happened. I scratched (刮擦) a car parked by the pavement. My heart jumped into my throat.
I stopped the car, my hands shaking on the wheel. I looked around nervously. The street was
completely empty; no one had seen the accident. A powerful thought rushed into my head: “Just drive away.No one will ever know.” The car I hit was a beautiful, brand-new car, and the scratch along its door was long and deep. My own car only had a small bump. Panic filled me. I had worked hard to save money for my first semester’s college books, and I knew that money would be wiped out by this repair. The desire to escape was overwhelming.
But then, I pictured my dad’s serious face. He had always taught me that taking responsibility for one’s actions was what defined a person. With a heart that felt like a heavy stone, I pulled over and found a notebook and a pen in my backpack. With trembling hands, I wrote down my name, my phone number, my address, and a short apology. I tore out the page, walked back to the car, and carefully put the note under its windshield wiper. Driving home, I was consumed with fear already imagining the angry phone call and the financial trouble that would follow.
The call came that evening. A woman’s voice, calm and steady, asked for me. “This is Mrs. Gable,”she said. “I’m calling about the note you left on my car.” I prepared for the worst and apologized in a rushed, nervous stream. She listened quietly until I finished. “The scratch on my car is quite noticeable,”she said, pausing. My heart sank, sure she was about to demand a huge payment. Then she added, her voice warming, “But so is your honesty.”

The Johnson family had been planning their trip to the Grand Canyon (大峡谷) for months. For 12-year-old Ethan, the iconic attraction — especially the famous Grand Canyon Skywalk, a glass platform that extends over the edge — was all he could talk about. He had watched countless videos online and practiced walking on a glass board his dad placed on the balcony (阳台). His younger sister, Lily, aged 9, had remained silent whenever the skywalk was mentioned, often changing the subject or pretending not to hear.
On the morning of their visit, the family arrived at the canyon just as dawn broke. The air was cool and fresh, and the first rays of sunlight were painting the rocks in soft shades of orange and gold. Near the entrance to the skywalk, a kind-faced lady volunteer named Margaret was handing out maps and welcoming visitors with a warm smile. The view was so breathtaking that Ethan couldn’t wait to rush to the entrance, his heart pounding with excitement.
But Lily stopped short. Her face turned pale, and she took a step back. “I can’t,” she whispered, her voice shaking. “I can’t step on that.” Their mother knelt (跪) down and held her hands gently. “Everyone gets scared sometimes,” she said softly. “We don’t have to go if you’re not ready.” Their father added, “It’s totally fine if you’re not ready, sweetheart. We’re proud of you for telling us how you feel.”
But Ethan was deeply disappointed. He had imagined this moment for so long — the whole family standing together on the glass, looking down at the canyon far below, taking photos that would last a lifetime. “But we came all this way,” he said, his voice tight with disappointment. “You promised you would at least try.” Lily buried her face in her mother’s coat and began to cry, her small body shaking. The family stood there, stuck — one child eager to go, the other frozen with fear, time ticking away as more tourists lined up behind them.

When Nora, an 18-year-old Australian girl, arrived in Nantes, France, for a year of studying abroad, she felt like an outsider. Her biggest trouble was her poor French and she could hardly keep up with local daily conversations, which added to her anxiety.
Luckily, she soon found a perfect rental room through an ad. It was a quiet house. The landlady, Olivia, a cheerful French woman, greeted her with a warm smile. She told Nora that just she and her 7-year-old daughter Emma lived in the house, and that Louis, her husband, was a nurse in another city who was on permanent night shift and extremely busy. She patiently introduced the family routine and the routes to Nora’s college. Nora felt at home at that very moment, and signed the rental contract right away.
Olivia was like family to Nora, who helped Nora practice French every evening, taught Nora about French life, and even drove Nora to the supermarket when the 18-year-old first arrived. Emma was energetic, enthusiastic and always a joy to be around. Their friendship almost began on the first day Nora moved in. The little girl knocked at Nora’s door politely, sat close and eagerly shared stories about her friends, her pets and everything interesting. They laughed a lot, which really lit up Nora’s days far from home. Sometimes, the 7-year-old was quiet, just whispering to Nora how she missed her dear dad. Nora tried to comfort Emma, and each of their conversations brought them closer.
Emma would turn 8 that weekend and Nora overheard that at the dinner. Feeling grateful and caring, Nora got down to planning a surprise birthday party for her after learning she and her mom were going out that morning and wouldn’t be back until noon.
When Nora found herself alone in the house, she got started in the kitchen right away. Setting Emma’s favorite plates on the table and had her favorite flowers in place, Nora hoped to please her little friend as much as she could.

A 12-year-old boy named Thomas walked fast through the library’s bookshelves, holding dinosaur books — colourful ones with shiny covers and thick ones with black-and-white photos. He looked at his watch every two minutes; the library would close in 45 minutes, and he had to finish key parts. Tomorrow’s science class speech was his first big one, and he didn’t want to perform badly.
“Clatter!” The top book fell from his pile, hitting the floor. Some loose T. rex (霸王龙) pictures came out. Thomas knelt down to pick them up and saw a blue notebook under a nearby chair. He opened it: messy, childlike writing said, “I want to build a spaceship to Mars, but I don’t know how. Maybe it needs big wings?”
Just then, a little girl ran over. “That’s mine!” She was Lily, a second-grader who loved drawing. She grabbed the notebook and leafed through it — dozens of fun designs: some like flying umbrellas with propellers (螺旋桨), some like fish tanks with wheels. One even had a spaceship window for her pet goldfish.
“These ideas are great,” Thomas said, pointing to the goldfish one. “My little sister would love this.” But Lily held the notebook tight. “Elsa, who sits next to me, says my drawings are junk. She laughs at the Mars one.” Her voice was very quiet.
Thomas felt sad. He remembered his first class speech — he practised dinosaur facts for weeks, but stood up and forgot everything. His hands shook, and someone laughed.
He took one dinosaur book, turning to old drawings. “See? Scientists drew dinosaurs wrong at first. People thought T. rexes walked straight up, like a person. But later, they found out they bent forward, like birds. Mistakes help them learn!”
Lily looked up, her eyes a little brighter. They sat in a quiet window corner, where the sun made warm spots. They promised: Thomas would help Lily write her “funny ideas” simply, so she could tell Elsa. Lily would draw dinosaurs for Thomas’s speech — silly but real. They spent 20 minutes planning, with Lily sketching a quick T. rex on scrap paper (草稿纸).

8.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My family had just moved to Maple Street. On our first day, my parents told my brother Leo and me to always be polite and honest to our neighbors. Next door lived Mr. Jenkins, a retired man who mostly kept to himself. His garden was the neatest on the street, filled with colorful flowers, especially roses that he took very good care of. In the middle, on a small stone seat, sat a fine white ceramic (陶瓷的) bird. It looked old and was placed with great care.
Last Saturday, while playing soccer with Leo in our backyard, I kicked the ball too hard. It flew over the wooden fence. We heard a sharp crack. Looking through the gaps, we saw the ball next to the stone seat. The white ceramic bird was in pieces. Leo cried, “Oh no! Mr. Jenkins!” Everyone knew Mr. Jenkins was a serious man who valued his quiet space. Just last month, a boy’s toy had landed in his yard, and Mr. Jenkins had returned it with a firm “Please be more careful,” but no smile. Fear rushed through me. “Quick! Inside!” I whispered, pulling Leo away before we were seen.
For two days, I avoided the backyard, feeling guilty each time I glanced toward Mr. Jenkins’s house. But yesterday evening, while taking out the trash, I saw him. He was on his knees by the seat, slowly gathering the broken pieces into a small box. He held one piece, a wing, for a long time before placing it inside. His shoulders drooped (下垂), and he looked more sad than angry. My heart sank as I realized how much that little bird must have meant to him.

Two Strangers From Reddit Saved Something I Almost Lost
I don’t think I’ve ever felt this kind of gratitude for people I’ve never even met before.
A few days ago, everything we had been working towards almost fell apart in a matter of hours. We had managed to schedule an interview with the Philippines Ambassador at his official residence in Delhi. For a small, youth-led organization like ours, this wasn’t just another event. It meant something. It was proof that what we are building has value.
And then, at the last moment, our cameraman backed out.
I remember just sitting there, staring at my phone, trying to figure out how something so small could break something so big. We didn’t have the money to hire professionals. We didn’t have backup. It felt like watching something slip through your hands while knowing you can’t do anything about it.
Out of desperation, I wrote a post on Reddit.
I didn’t expect anything real to come out of it. Maybe a few replies, maybe advice. But what I got instead… I wasn’t prepared for.
A person with the username u/melodic_Pen6337 reached out. A complete stranger. No connection, no reason to care. But he did. Not just in words. He actively tried to help. He started reaching out to people, trying to connect me with someone who could step in. At one point, he even offered to pay from his own pocket just so that our interview wouldn’t collapse.
It didn’t work out in the end. But the effort he put in… the intention behind it… I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forget that. In a world where people hesitate to help even those they know, someone I had never spoken to before was willing to go that far.

It was a cold day with an unusually heavy snowfall. Public transportation was shut down because of the heavy snow.
I work in a company that rents out social housing. Because of the bad weather, most of us were forced to work from home. Only a few technicians were on emergency repair duty. If there was a real emergency, they would brave the white outside, though it may take them much longer than usual to get there. And since we all care about our coworkers out in the snow, our customer service staff make sure every repair call is indeed an emergency before sending anyone out.
All day long, the calls kept coming. Most callers asked about their repair appointments (预约) , and we had to explain, “Unfortunately, the technician can’t make it today. We tried to call you for rescheduling, but no one answered” Luckily, most customers understood and agreed to reschedule after sharing their reasons for missing the call.
However, one call that day went very differently. A soft, old voice came through the phone: “My tap is leaking.”
“I am so sorry to hear that,” I said gently. “I can arrange a worker for you in two days, if the weather gets better by then.”
“Yes... but my tap is leaking,” he repeated, slowly and quietly. He sounded like an elderly man, maybe hard of hearing. I repeated the offer, but his only response was still the same.
Red flags went off in my mind. I called the work planner at once. “Hey, I have a call from Greenhill Street. An elderly man with a leaky tap. No matter what I ask, he just repeats himself. So I’m worried,” I said anxiously.
Minutes later, the planner told me a technician was working just two streets away. She had asked him to check on the man. Then I called the man several times, but no one picked up.
My worry grew heavier with every passing minute. What if something terrible had happened to him?

In a lush (茂密的) jungle, a clever little monkey spent his days swinging through the branches of a tall tree by a wide river. Beneath the shimmering (波光粼粼的) water, an old crocodile lived with her son. One afternoon, the mother crocodile, feeling a sharp sense of hunger, spotted the monkey. “Aha, there’s a perfect meal,” she whispered to her son. “If you truly love me, you will catch that monkey and bring me his heart to eat.”
The baby crocodile was hesitant. “But Mother, monkeys are fast, and I cannot climb trees,” he argued. The mother replied coldly, “You don’t need to climb. Use your head, and you will find a way.”
Determined to please his mother, the young crocodile swam to the bank and called out, “Hey, Monkey! I heard you love bananas. There is a hidden island on the other side of the river with the sweetest golden bananas in the world. Would you like to go? I can carry you on my back.”
Attracted by the thought of a feast, the monkey eagerly jumped onto the crocodile’s broad back. They set off across the deep water. However, when they reached the middle of the river, the crocodile suddenly dived deep, bringing the monkey into water.
“Stop! What are you doing?” the monkey cried, trembling with fear. “I can’t swim!”
“I have to do this,” the crocodile said. “My mother is hungry and she wants to eat your heart.”
The monkey’s heart raced, but he remained calm. “Oh, why didn’t you tell me earlier?” he said with a sigh. “I don’t carry my heart inside me; it’s too precious. I left it hanging on the highest branch of my tree for safety. We must go back and get it.”
Believing the monkey, the crocodile turned around and swam back to the shore as fast as he could. As soon as they reached the bank, the monkey leaped off and climbed up his tree in a flash.

The freezing wind blew hard outside, hitting the windows with a sharp sound. Michaela had just hung her favorite warm cushion (坐垫) on the clothesline in the yard, hoping it would dry in the weak winter sun. She rubbed her cold hands together, thinking about how comfortable it would be to wrap herself in the soft cushion after it was dry. Little did she know, a small guest was about to take over her precious cushion.
Ten minutes later, when Michaela went back to check on her cushion, she froze in her tracks. There, lying nervously on the warm fabric that had fallen off the clothesline, was a skinny stray (流浪的) cat. Its fur was matted and dirty, mixed with bits of snow and mud, and its body was shaking slightly, as if it could barely stand the bitter cold. The cat’s eyes, big and yellowish-brown, looked up at her cautiously, filled with fear and helplessness, as if begging her not to drive it away. Michaela stood there, conflicted. On one hand, the cushion was her favorite — she had bought it with her pocket money and it was the only thing that kept her warm on cold winter nights. On the other hand, looking at the poor cat shaking in the wind, she couldn’t bear to be cruel. The wind blew harder, lifting the edge of the cushion and exposing the cat’s thin body.
Michaela sighed softly. Her heart softened at the sight of the little creature struggling to survive in the bitter winter. She thought about how lonely and terrified the cat must be, wandering alone in the freezing cold without a warm place to stay or food to eat. Guilt filled her heart as she remembered her hesitation just now — how could she care more about a cushion than a living creature’s life? She determined to do something to help the poor cat, even if it meant giving up her favorite cushion.

When Tom was two years and two months old, he suddenly shut the world away. The once lively boy, who had loved playing with the family’s pet dog and learned simple English and Spanish words, fell completely silent. He stopped making eye contact, refused to interact with anyone, and buried himself in his own lonely world.
Within two years, a string of misfortunes struck the family. Tom’s grandfather died of cancer, his parents got divorced, and his beloved pet dog passed away. Life became extremely tough for Cathy, the single mother. She took Tom to see countless doctors and tried every possible treatment, but all efforts were in vain. Tom was diagnosed with autism (自闭症), growing more withdrawn (内向的) with empty, lifeless eyes, which broke Cathy’s heart every day.
Cathy never gave up on her son. She had to work tirelessly to earn a living while seeking medical help. After eight painful years, with all methods tried and money running out, she had no choice but to take the completely non-verbal Tom away from the noisy city to the peaceful Devon countryside, hoping the quiet environment could comfort her son.
Though in deep despair, Cathy never lost faith. She always remembered little Tom’s deep love for dogs, so she kept accompanying him to walk outdoors to relax. One quiet afternoon, she took Tom for a slow walk on the wild grassland.
There, they found a little thin stray (流浪的) dog in the thick grass. It was trembling slightly, its head down, with big round eyes full of fear and helplessness, just like a lost child. Quietly, Tom walked slowly toward the poor little dog.

The sun had just set beyond the forest, painting the sky in shades of orange and violet. A gentle wind whispered through the tall pines, carrying the scent of moss and rain. Deep inside the woods lived a mysterious creature named Nushka. She was neither beast nor spirit, but something in between — a guardian of the forest who could understand the language of trees and rivers.
For years, Nushka had watched humans from afar. They came to the forest with axes and torches, cutting and burning, taking what they needed and leaving scars on the land. Yet sometimes, she saw children who looked at the woods with wonder instead of fear — listening to birdsong, touching the bark of old trees, or watching butterflies drift in the sunlight. In those moments, she felt a faint hope that perhaps humans still carried kindness toward nature deep in their hearts.
One late afternoon, a boy named Evan wandered into the forest. He had been chasing a red butterfly and lost his way. The deeper he went, the darker it became. The air turned cool and damp, and strange shadows danced among the trees. As the last bit of daylight faded, Evan realized he was completely alone.
He tried to retrace his steps, but every path looked the same. His heart pounded faster. The sound of an owl echoed above him, and he sank onto a fallen log, fighting back tears. In the quiet that followed, even the forest seemed to be holding its breath.
From the distance, Nushka watched silently. She could sense the boy’s fear through the trembling of leaves and the quickened rhythm of the wind. She knew she had to help him — but she also knew that humans often feared what they didn’t understand.

15.阅读下面的材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
David was a bird rescue expert and gained a lot of attention because of his surprising animal and bird hatching adventures.
One day, David found four baby goslings (鹅). The babies were stuck on ice and had nowhere to go. Wrapping them in the warmth of his jacket, this kind man brought them home with him. He made them a comfortable nest and fed them with a specially prepared mixture, which contained all the nutrition they would have received in the wild. His gentle touch and soft voice became their comfort and his presence became a sign of safety in their small, new world. He took care of them like they were his children.
David was aware that the little goslings would one day need to be released into the wild, so he started to prepare for their release. First, he sprayed (喷) water on the feathers of the goslings so that they would be strong enough to fly in case of attacks. Then, he selected a place for those goslings to live. There was a pond big enough for them to swim at the location. The spot had an inclined plane (斜面) for the birds to go in and out of the water comfortably. It was an open space where they could see danger from far away, giving them enough time to escape. The area was also rich in grass, providing them with a ready source of food.
The departure day finally came. David transported the goslings in a cage and took them to the pond. After finding a tern (燕鸥) flying in the area, David was sure that it was a perfect spot for his goslings. Terns, being fish-eaters, indicated a healthy ecosystem, which would be beneficial to the goslings. Most importantly, the best part was that the pond was not far from his house. This allowed David to keep a watchful eye on the goslings during their initial days of independent life.

1.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】
After a long struggle in his heart, Tony made up his mind. He took a deep breath to calm his racing heart and took out a pen and a piece of paper. With trembling hands, he wrote down a sincere apology note, including his name, class, and phone number, promising to take full responsibility. He carefully stuck the note on the front window of the luxury car. Although he knew he might face a heavy financial burden, a sense of relief washed over him. His soul felt surprisingly light as he finally headed home.
That evening, Tony’s phone rang. Seeing an unknown number, his stomach tightened with nervousness. He answered it hesitantly, preparing himself for anger or a huge bill. To his surprise, a warm male voice came through, “Are you the student who left the note?” The car owner told Tony not to worry about the compensation at all. “That scratch can be fixed, but your honesty is priceless,” the man said warmly. Hearing those words, Tony was touched, tears of relief welled up in his eyes. He realized that sticking to his principles was indeed the best birthday gift for himself and his grandfather.

【答案】
Upon arriving home, Sarah rushed to tell her parents about her day. She burst through the door, her backpack bouncing off her shoulders. “Mom, Dad, I won a prize in the math competition!” she exclaimed, holding up the star — patterned pencil case. But as she spoke, her excitement faded. “I think I got the last question wrong,” she confessed, avoiding their gaze. Her father placed a comforting hand on her knee. “Honesty is the greatest prize,” he said gently. “Let’s fix this together.”
The next day, Sarah approached Mrs. White’s office with the case. She knocked softly, with her knees trembling. When Mrs. White opened the door, Sarah held out the case, her voice barely a whisper. “I don’t think I earned this. Can I return it?” Mrs. White listened and then smiled warmly, her eyes twinkling. “Sarah, the courage to admit a mistake is worth more than any prize,” she said. “Keep it, as a reminder to always pursue integrity.” Sarah left, holding the case like a medal of honor.

【答案】One possible version:
Hearing her words, Anna looked at Lily softly and asked, “What about you?” At this question, Lily lowered her head at once, her hands twisting uneasily. A flood of nervousness washed over her. “I can’t do it well,” she said in a low voice. Seeing her hesitation, Anna smiled and encouraged her, “You have such a sweet voice and good appearance. Why not show your talent?” She comforted Lily, saying that if she was too nervous to speak before the camera, she could work as a voice broadcaster for the project. After a brief inner struggle, Lily gathered her courage and nodded, deciding to give it a try.
Lily did a great job and the project-based learning was finally awarded first prize. Knowing the result, a wave of joy and pride swept over Lily. More than the honor, she was proud of herself for overcoming her long-standing shyness. No longer afraid of being judged or laughed at, she was brave enough to show her own strengths. Having long admired confident peers, she finally became one of them. She came to realize that everyone has unique strengths, and only by stepping out of our comfort zone can we grow into a more confident and better version of ourselves.

That night, I told my dad everything.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
I froze, not expecting such a response. All afternoon I had been tortured by the thought of getting into huge trouble, and I had steeled myself for anger and complaints. But the angry shouts I had braced for never came. Instead, Mrs. Gable praised me for my integrity, saying my note had shown more respect than any apology could. She added that in a world where many people would have simply driven away, I had chosen to take responsibility for my mistake. She reassured me and firmly refused to accept any money for the repair. Her final advice to “drive safer” lingered in my heart long after we hung up, filling me with warmth that melted all my earlier anxieties.
That night, I told my dad everything. I described the scratch, the urge to run away, the note I left, and my terrible worry about the cost. When I finished, I hung my head, expecting scolding or disappointment. Much to my astonishment, however, he simply smiled and patted me on the shoulder, saying proudly that I had done the right thing, choosing integrity over fear. “That’s the mark of a man,” he said in a firm voice. We talked for hours, about responsibility, about second chances, about kindness. Before bed, he handed me a check. “For your books,” he said gently. Dad was right — taking responsibility wasn’t a burden. It was freedom. And that birthday, I didn’t just grow older — I grew up.

【答案】One possible version:
Just then, Margaret noticed the situation and walked over. Kneeling down beside Lily, she asked gently, “Nervous?” Lily nodded, tears in her eyes. She smiled warmly. “I used to be terrified of heights too,” she whispered. “But someone gave me this — a bravery sticker. Hold it, and you can do anything.” She handed Lily a shiny sticker. “How about wearing it and just taking one tiny step? Your family is right beside you.” Lily looked at the sticker, then at her parents and Ethan, who nodded encouragingly. Hesitantly, she held the sticker in her hand tightly and gave a shaky nod.
With the small sticker in hand, Lily stepped onto the skywalk with her family. Her legs shook at first, and she held her mother’s hand tightly. But as Ethan pointed to the breathtaking canyon below, she dared to glance down. The golden light flooded the vast canyon walls. “Look, Lily, you did it!” Ethan cheered. A smile finally broke across her face. They took the family photo right there, all four of them laughing against the glass. Later, Lily whispered to Margaret, “The sticker really worked.” And Margaret winked, “I knew it would.”

6.阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

Learning Nora’s warm plan, he was deeply moved and offered to help prepare the party together. They chatted happily and arranged decorations and delicious snacks side by side.
About two hours later, Louis and Nora got everything ready. The whole house was filled with warm festive atmosphere. Soon Olivia and Emma returned home. The moment Emma stepped in, everyone shouted the birthday cheer loudly. Seeing the lovely party, the little girl jumped with joy and hugged Nora tightly. Sweet laughter spread all over the house, making Nora feel warm and peaceful in this foreign land.

【答案】
On speech day, Thomas stood at the front, hands still a little shaky. But when he held up Lily’s sketch of a bent-forward T. rex, he smiled. He talked about dinosaurs clearly, adding funny details from their plan. The class listened quietly, and when he finished, everyone clapped. After class, his teacher praised his wonderful speech. Thomas looked for Lily and found her smiling, holding a new drawing — his dinosaur speech with a tiny spaceship beside it.
That evening, Thomas and Lily were back in their favourite corner of the library. Thomas brought a new dinosaur book for Lily, and she showed him her updated spaceship designs, now with simple notes he helped write. “Elsa said my ideas are cool!” Lily said happily. They sat together, with Thomas reading dinosaur facts and Lily drawing. The library’s soft light fell on them, and they made a new promise: to keep helping each other, turning their fears into courage, one small step at a time.

【答案】One possible version:
That night, guilt kept me awake. My parents’ words about honesty echoed in my mind, mixing with the image of Mr. Jenkins’s sad face. I imagined him finding the broken bird, piece by piece, all alone. Hiding felt like a second mistake, bigger than the first. I found Leo looking at Mr. Jenkins’s window. “We have to tell him and make up the loss,” I said, my voice firm. Leo nodded slowly and said, “I’ll go with you.” Courage began to push aside the fear. I knew apologizing was the only way forward.
With my savings in hand, I entered the gift shop, determined to make things right. I searched until I found a similar ceramic bird with the word “Hope” on it. It felt right. Holding it tightly, I walked to Mr. Jenkins’s door. My heart raced as I knocked. When he opened it, I took a deep breath. “Mr. Jenkins, I broke your bird. I am truly sorry. This is for you.” He looked at the gift, then at me. After a quiet moment, his expression softened. “Thank you for your courage,” he said gently. “Would you boys like to help me in the garden this weekend?” I nodded, smiling with relief.

【答案】Paragraph 1
It was from another stranger known as MysticDelusion. Real hope finally arrived. He saw my Reddit post and immediately offered his professional camera and editing skills, refusing any payment. Living nearby, he arrived early the next morning, quietly setting up equipment while calming my nerves with light jokes. When the ambassador walked in, the camera was rolling perfectly. That single act of trust from a complete stranger saved everything we had worked for.
Paragraph 2
This experience completely changed my view of people and life. I used to believe the world was cold and that help always came with conditions. Yet these two strangers from Reddit proved me wrong. They showed me that genuine kindness still exists in unexpected corners and that the internet can truly connect hearts. Now, whenever I see someone in need, I reach out — because I know a small act can save a dream.

【答案】
Every few minutes, I checked my phone for messages from the planner. I was so worried that I even imagined the worst situation where the elderly man might have fallen down and couldn’t get up. Just as I was about to call the technician directly, a message came: the technician had arrived at Greenhill Street and found the man safe. He said that the man was deaf and couldn’t hear the phone, so he just kept repeating about the leaky tap because he was anxious.
Hearing that, I let out a huge breath of relief. The planner told me that the technician had fixed the tap quickly and chatted with the man for a while. She added that the man was very grateful and kept saying thanks to the technician. I felt happy that we didn’t ignore the man’s simple words, which might have hidden a real need. It taught me that we should always care more about the elderly, especially when they are in trouble.

【答案】Paragraph 1:
The monkey scurried to the highest branch and looked down at the waiting crocodile. A burst of mocking laughter (嘲讽的笑声) rang through the leaves, echoing across the river. “You foolish creature!” the monkey shouted, swinging safely by his tail. “Did you actually believe someone could leave their heart on a tree? My heart is exactly where it belongs — inside my chest!” Realizing he had been completely outsmarted, the crocodile stared up in stunned silence. The monkey then picked a hard, green nut and threw it down, narrowly missing the crocodile’s nose. “Here is the ‘heart’ you were looking for! Now, go back to your mother and tell her that a trick is no match for a quick and smart mind.”
Paragraph 2:
Feeling disappointed and ashamed, the baby crocodile swam back to his mother empty-handed. He found her lurking (潜伏) in the shadows near the riverbed, eyes gleaming (发光) with hunger. When he explained how the monkey had escaped, his mother exploded with anger, blaming his incapacity. However, the young crocodile no longer felt the urge to please her through cruelty. He looked back at the distant shore, realizing that he had lost not only a meal, but also the chance for a true friendship. Having learned a bitter lesson about honesty and greed, he dived deep into the cold water, leaving his mother’s anger behind and vowing (发誓) never to be so easily misled again.

【答案】
She walked back into the house, determined to build an outdoor cat shelter. She searched through the storage room and found a sturdy cardboard box, some soft old blankets and a piece of waterproof cloth. Without delay, she headed back to the yard. The bitter wind was still howling, but she ignored the cold. She carefully lined the box with thick blankets to keep warmth, covered the top with the waterproof cloth to block wind and snow, and gently placed her beloved cushion inside. After finishing the simple shelter, she also prepared a bowl of warm milk and some cat food beside it, hoping the poor cat could have a warm and full meal on the freezing day.
The next morning, Michaela was surprised to find the cat in the shelter. The skinny cat was curled up tightly on the soft cushion, sleeping soundly. Its body no longer trembled, looking relaxed and peaceful. Hearing her footsteps, it opened its big eyes softly, staring at her without fear. Instead, it let out a gentle meow, as if expressing gratitude. Michaela smiled warmly, her heart filled with immense joy. She realized that kindness was never a loss. Giving up her favorite cushion brought warmth to a lonely life, and this small act of kindness turned the cold winter days into something warm and precious.

Something amazing happened. To Cathy’s great shock, Tom knelt down gently, reaching out to stroke the trembling dog. For the first time in years, his empty eyes lit up with warmth, and he whispered softly, “Don’t be afraid.” The little dog nuzzled his hand, and Tom even turned to his mom, making eye contact and murmuring, “Mom, let’s help it.” Cathy stood there, tears rolling down her cheeks, as she saw her son finally coming out of his lonely world.
Moved by all this, Mom took the little dog home. From then on, the dog became Tom’s closest companion. He fed it, played with it, and talked to it every day, gradually opening his heart. He started to interact with others, spoke more words, and his autism symptoms improved greatly. Cathy was overjoyed to see her son’s transformation. The little stray dog not only saved itself, but also healed Tom, bringing light and hope back to the family.

【答案】One possible version:
Instead of showing herself, she decided to help him secretly. Unseen beneath the veil of moonlight, Nushka raised her hand, and the forest seemed to awaken. A hush fell; then the leaves began to murmur in a language older than time. A faint shimmer appeared on the path ahead, as if the stars themselves had descended to guide the boy. When Evan stumbled, roots curled gently beneath his feet to steady him; when fear crept into his chest, the wind whispered courage into his ears. The deeper he ventured, the more the forest bent toward him — not to trap, but to protect. With Nushka’s guide, the boy gradually calmed down and got out of the woods.
When he finally found his way home, his parents hugged him in tears. But that night, Evan couldn’t sleep. Moonlight streamed through his window, silvering his hands as he turned the feather over and over. Its glow refused to fade, pulsing softly like a heartbeat. He thought of the whispers, the wind, the warmth that had guided him — and he realized that the forest was not a place to fear but a soul to understand. From that night on, he would never break a branch without thought. Deep within the woods, Nushka watched the boy’s promise ripple through the trees. Never had the forest seemed so alive, nor hope so near.

【答案】
David did not know how the birds would act when they were released. As he opened the cage, the goslings hesitated, huddling close to his legs instead of rushing to the pond. Their tiny eyes darted nervously at the unfamiliar surroundings. David softly encouraged them, kneeling to gently nudge them forward. Slowly, one bravest gosling waddled toward the water, followed cautiously by the others. They dipped their beaks, then splashed in joy, their anxious chirps turning into excited quacks. David smiled, relieved, as they swam together in a neat line, exploring their new home with growing confidence.
The next day, David returned to check on the goslings. From a distance, he spotted them grazing peacefully on the grassy bank. As he approached, they recognized him instantly, flapping their wings and scurrying toward him with happy chirps. David observed their feathers—now glossy and strong—and watched them dive skillfully for aquatic plants. Nearby, a tern circled overhead, confirming the area’s safety. Though independent, the goslings still greeted him like family. With a heart full of pride, David knew his feathered friends had truly adapted to the wild.
