Some people might think of oysters (牡蛎) as delicious seafood or beautiful pearls (珍珠). But for some people, oysters are environmental superstars. Demi Johnson, a 15-year-old girl, is one of them. “They’re really important,” Demi says. A single oyster can clean up to 50 gallons (加仑) of seawater a day. They are important helpers for our oceans.
Demi learned about oysters’ superpowers through “oyster gardening”—raising young oysters in cages not to eat, but to help the environment. In fact, she knew nothing about oyster gardening when she started in 2022. After taking a free class, now she has become an expert. This year, she even won a master oyster gardener prize. “You don’t have to do a lot to take care of them, but the influence on the environment is great,” Demi says.
There used to be lots of oysters in coastal waters. But their numbers have declined. This is mainly because of pollution and storms. Oyster gardening is a way to help. Now, Demi has several cages. Every week, she pulls the cages from the water to check her oysters and make sure they are healthy. When the oysters grow big, they are put into the sea to help other sea animals.
Up to now, Demi has already helped raise over 1,500 oysters! She also won an award and used the prize money to help more people start oyster gardening. Demi shows how young people can make a real difference for our planet.

A.They can produce pearls. B.They can protect coastlines.
C.They can clean seawater. D.They can feed sea animals.

A.By attending a free class. B.By joining in a competition.
C.By winning a national prize. D.By watching a video online.

17.通读全文可知,文章主要围绕Demi作为“oyster gardener”展开,介绍了她学习养殖、照顾牡蛎、帮助环境的事迹,因此“An Oyster Gardener”是最佳标题。

Boreal forests are found in northern parts of the world, like North America, Asia, and Europe. Of the three types of forests, boreal forests have the shortest growing season, about 130 days. Winters are extremely cold, making it difficult for life. The largest boreal forest is in Russia (mainly in its Asian part). Animals there get used to the cold weather by growing thick fur (厚厚的皮毛).
Tropical rainforest (热带雨林)
You may guess that it rains a lot in a tropical rainforest. You are right! Tropical rainforests are hot and wet. These forests cover only a tenth of the Earth, yet they are home to more kinds of plants and animals than any other places. The biggest tropical rainforest is the Amazon. Ink brushes (毛笔) are important in Chinese culture. They are used in paintings and writings.
Xu Wenyi comes from Wenzhou. He runs an ink brush shop with his two brothers. His grandfather starts the shop in 1900. His father learns the skill at 13 and later runs the shop. Xu also begins learning at the same age. He and his brothers are the third generation (代).
There are about 40 steps to make an ink brush. The first step is to choose the hair. Every winter, Xu goes to other cities to collect the best animal hair. Next, he and his workers make the hair tidy. This takes days or even a week for one small strand (缕). Then they cut the hair into different sizes. These days, the brothers try new things. They make lanugo (胎毛) brushes with babies’ hair, and many new parents enjoy them. They also show brush-making in their shop and at cultural festivals. Many culture lovers show great interest in the skill.
“We are happy to make good brushes,” Xu says. “We want to pass on the skills. We believe we can make better brushes by spreading the skill.”

Since you are closer to the top of the trees, you will see 49 (beauty) birds, monkeys and many other animals.
The dry season is between May 50 October. This is the warm season, 51 a temperature of about 36°C. However, it still gets some heavy rains.
