Hello, everyone. I know most of you want to be singers, but I’m afraid to say it’s all hard work. However, the rewards are beyond anything else, so it’s a fair deal. If you have got a good voice, then treasure it. Don’t be anxious. If it does get hurt — it’s impressive how it’ll recover. The important thing is to use it. Get out the campus and take every chance you can to sing in public. This experience will also help to feed and build your ambition to go on to be better. Singing on stage to an appreciative audience is as good as life gets. And for those who don’t like public performance, if you’ve got a good voice, then maybe you’ll be like my friend Diana. Although she got over most of her anxiety about performing in public a few years ago, she still prefers studio singing, performing directly for CDs and so on. Nobody really sees her outside her home and the studio. Even warming up her voice for a recording performance is something she does in private, making noises while sitting in her car outside the studio building. I think she’s alarmed a few passersby in her time.

Louisa May Alcott, a leading American writer of the 19th century, used writing both as a means of escape and a way to chronicle the world around her — she would write down details of her family’s daily life, like her sisters’ laughter over morning meals or her father’s late-night discussions with friends, and put these moments into her stories later.
Born on November 29, 1832, in Pennsylvania, she was the second of four daughters. Growing up in Boston and Concord, Massachusetts, Louisa was primarily educated by her father and received additional lessons from the well-known writer and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson and the influential philosopher Henry David Thoreau. Both men, along with her father, were part of the Transcendental Club, a group that emphasized self-reliance and the power of the individual.
Despite this rich intellectual environment, the Alcott family faced continuing economic difficulties. Determined to help, Louisa worked various jobs as a young woman, including as a teacher and domestic helper. For Louisa, writing became her creative outlet (出口) and an escape from these pressures.
She began her literary career by publishing Flower Fables at the age of 22. Several years later, Hospital Sketches brought her wider positive recognition. However, it was the publication of Little Women that secured her lasting literary fame. The book is semi-autobiographical, mainly coming from Louisa’s own childhood and young adulthood. The central character, Jo March, mirrors Louisa herself as an independent thinker and writer. The novel’s extraordinary popularity has led to translations into more than 50 languages.
Louisa continued the story of the March family with Little Men (1871) and Jo’s Boys (1886), alongside numerous other novels and children’s stories throughout the 1870s and 1880s. She even became the first woman to register to vote in Concord and actively encouraged other women to do the same.
Louisa May Alcott died on March 6, 1888. Through her timeless body of work, particularly Little Women, she has left an extraordinary mark on American literature.

26. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. Louisa’s harmonious family life. B. Louisa’s achievements in literature.

Scientists from the University of Otago’s Christchurch Medical School have discovered a direct connection between people’s vitamin C intake and their skin’s ability to produce collagen (胶原蛋白)and renew itself. The study, published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, clearly shows that skin health is influenced by vitamin C from daily food, not just by topical (外用的)creams applied to the skin surface. It also found that vitamin C levels in the skin are closely related to those in the blood. Therefore, eating more foods rich in vitamin C can effectively increase vitamin C levels in both the blood and the skin.
The research included 24 healthy adults from New Zealand and Germany. Those eating two SunGold kiwifruits daily raised blood vitamin C levels and saw a clear increase in skin vitamin C. This made skin thicker — due to more collagen — and sped up outer skin renewal. Lead researcher Professor Margreet Vissers described the results as surprising and said the strong connection between skin thickness and vitamin C intake is fully believable.
She noted the connection between blood and skin vitamin C is clearer than in other organs. “We were surprised by how closely blood vitamin C levels are connected to those in the skin,” she said. The research team also discovered that vitamin C in the blood can reach all layers of the skin and help the skin work better. Though vitamin C is often added to skincare products, it is not well taken in through the outer skin. However, skin cells can take in vitamin C from the blood very well.
SunGold kiwifruits were chosen for the study because they always have a high vitamin C content. But the researchers believe other foods rich in vitamin C, such as oranges and berries, can bring similar benefits to the skin. It is important to keep steady vitamin C levels in the blood because the human body does not store vitamin C for a long time. Professor Vissers suggested that healthy people can reach the best blood vitamin C levels with about 250mg of vitamin C every day through their diet.
28. What affects skin health according to the study?
A. Water taken in by the skin. B. Vitamin C from food intake.
C. Collagen from skin products. D. Topical skincare creams alone.
29. What is Professor Vissers’ attitude towards the study results?
A. Doubtful. B. Approving. C. Unconcerned. D. Objective.
30. Why are vitamin C-rich skincare products less effective?
A. They lack enough collagen.
B. They are not used in a proper way.
C. They don’t suit all skin types.
D. They are poorly taken in through skin.
31. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Vitamin C Intake and Skin Health
B. Blood Vitamin C and Skin Vitamin C
C. Skincare Products and Vitamin C Intake
D. Collagen Production and Skin Thickness
B 29. B 30. D 31. A

根据第三段中的“Though vitamin C is often added to skincare products, it is not well taken in through the outer skin.(尽管维生素C常被添加到护肤品中,但它很难通过皮肤外层被很好地吸收。)”
根据第一段中的“Scientists from the University of Otago’s Christchurch Medical School have discovered a direct connection between people’s vitamin C intake and their skin’s ability to produce collagen (胶原蛋白)and renew itself.(奥塔哥大学基督城医学院的科学家发现,人们摄入的维生素C与皮肤产生胶原蛋白和自我更新的能力之间存在直接联系。)” 故选A项。
D
Many children try to make their parents proud. But in some families, a child’s success is always “on show”. Parents want praise from others, and the child may feel like a performer, not a person.
The term “peacock parenting” comes from the idea of being “as proud as a peacock”. Here it means a self-centered style of parenting. A peacock parent may show off a “perfect family” in public, yet criticise the child behind closed doors when the child fails to meet high expectations. Over time, the child may learn that love is conditional. They may hide their real feelings, stop exploring their own interests, and start to believe, “I am not worthy.”
Experts describe three common signs. The first is psychological control. When the child sets a boundary or feels upset, the parent may say, “You’re too sensitive,” and turn the blame back onto the child. This often creates a sense of guilt. The second is unpredictable mood swings. The parent can be warm one day and cold the next, making the child feel like they are “walking on eggshells”. In adulthood, this may lead to people-pleasing and weak boundaries. The third is role reversal. Some parents fail to provide proper care and attention, or even expect their child to look after them emotionally or physically. As a result, the child may grow up too fast and miss out on a normal childhood.
Healing takes time, but it is possible. The first step is to be kinder to yourself and reconnect with your own interests. Supportive friends, groups, or professional help can provide the care that was previously missing. Clear boundaries can also make a relationship safer, and if contact continues to cause harm, limiting contact may be necessary. After all, there are many places to find warmth, and not all of them are under a parent’s roof.
32. What is the purpose of paragraph 1?
A. To raise an issue. B. To describe a study.
C. To explain the causes. D. To offer the solutions.
33. What does “peacock parenting” in paragraph 2 mainly focus on?
A. Public approval. B. Unconditional love. C. Independent growth. D. Honest self-expression.
34. Which sign best matches “role reversal” in paragraph 3?
A. The parent praises the child in public. B. The child tries to win others’ approval.
C. The parent relies on the child for support. D. The child avoids setting any boundaries.
35. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Distance ensures safety. B. Self-care is the final step.
C. healing requires parental effort. D. Support exists beyond the family.
A 33. A 34. C 35. D

Looking to improve your relationships with your family members? Learn how emotional intelligence (EQ) is your most effective tool for overcoming rifts (不利) and strengthening bonds. Here are five tips for improving family relationships.
____36____ Lack of communication is the loudest complaint in most families. The answer to “Why won’t they listen to me?” may be simply “You’re not listening to them.”
Practice generosity by both giving and receiving. ____37____ If we only focus on giving without being able to accept, we limit our ability to truly connect with others.
Take responsibility for what you communicate silently. More than our words, our tone of voice, body language, and facial expressions show how we feel. We have to listen to our tone of voice and look at ourselves in the mirror to assess how our feelings match our expressions. ____38____
Don’t try to solve problems for your loved ones. Caring for your family doesn’t mean taking charge of their problems, giving unsolicited (未经请求的) advice, or protecting them from their own emotions. ____39____
Acknowledge your errors to everyone. Saying you’re sorry when you hurt someone you love models humility (谦虚) and emotional integrity. ____40____ Apologizing proves you can forgive yourself and makes it easier to forgive others.
A. Listen if you expect to be heard.
B. EQ succeeds where other efforts at family harmony fail.
C. Recognize that both actions are part of a loving relationship.
D. Perhaps you and your family can seek out ways to exercise together.
E. You can demonstrate that no one is perfect, but everyone can learn at any age.
F. Loving words spoken with a forced smile don’t feel loving — they feel confusing.
G. Let them know their own strengths and allow them to ask you for help when they need it.

下文“Lack of communication is the loudest complaint in most families. The answer to “Why won’t they listen to me?” may be simply “You’re not listening to them.” (缺乏沟通是大多数家庭中最强烈的抱怨。“他们为什么不听我说?”这个问题的答案可能很简单:“你没有在听他们说。”)”指出了沟通问题的核心在于双向倾听的缺失。A选项“Listen if you expect to be heard. (如果你期望别人能听你的想法,就要先去倾听)”作为本段小标题,精准概括了下文的核心观点——倾听是相互的,想要被理解先要理解他人,与下文“观点—阐释”关系。故选A项。
上文“Practice generosity by both giving and receiving. (通过给予和接受来实践慷慨)”提出了本段的核心建议——慷慨既包括给予也包括接受。C选项“Recognize that both actions are part of a loving relationship. (认识到这两种行为都是充满爱的关系的一部分)”承接上文,进一步阐释为何给予和接受都不可或缺——它们共同构成健康关系的基础。下文“If we only focus on giving without being able to accept, we limit our ability to truly connect with others. (如果我们只专注于给予而不能接受,我们就限制了自己与他人真正建立联系的能力)”则从反面强调了只会给予不会接受的弊端,与C选项形成“正面阐释—反面论证”的逻辑呼应。故选C项。
【38题详解】
上文“Take responsibility for what you communicate silently. More than our words, our tone of voice, body language, and facial expressions show how we feel. We have to listen to our tone of voice and look at ourselves in the mirror to assess how our feelings match our expressions. (为你无声传达的信息负责。比起言语,我们的语调、肢体语言和面部表情更能展示我们的感受。我们必须倾听自己的语调,照镜子评估自己的感受与表情是否一致)”强调了非语言沟通的重要性以及自我觉察的必要性。F选项“Loving words spoken with a forced smile don’t feel loving — they feel confusing. (带着勉强微笑说出的爱的话语并不让人感到被爱——它们让人感到困惑)”承接上文,具体举例说明当语言与非语言信息不一致时会给对方造成困扰,从而强化了上文“自我觉察”的重要性。故选F项。
【39题详解】
上文“Don’t try to solve problems for your loved ones. Caring for your family doesn’t mean taking charge of their problems, giving unsolicited (未经请求的) advice, or protecting them from their own emotions. (不要试图为你爱的人解决问题。关心家人并不意味着接管他们的问题、给出未经请求的建议,或保护他们免受自己情绪的困扰)”指出了关爱家人的正确方式——不是包办代替,而是尊重他们的独立性。G选项“Let them know their own strengths and allow them to ask you for help when they need it. (让他们了解自己的长处,并允许他们在需要时向你求助)”承接上文,给出了尊重家人独立性的具体做法——相信他们的能力,并在他们主动求助时提供支持,与上文形成“否定错误做法—肯定正确做法”的逻辑呼应。故选G项。
【40题详解】
上文“Acknowledge your errors to everyone. Saying you’re sorry when you hurt someone you love models humility (谦虚) and emotional integrity. (向所有人承认你的错误。当你伤害了你爱的人时说对不起,展现了谦逊和情感的正直)”指出了道歉的积极意义。E选项“You can demonstrate that no one is perfect, but everyone can learn at any age. (你可以证明没有人是完美的,但每个人在任何年龄都可以学习)”承接上文,补充了道歉所传递的另一个重要信息——不完美是人之常态,但成长永无止境。下文“Apologizing proves you can forgive yourself and makes it easier to forgive others. (道歉证明你能原谅自己,也让原谅他人变得更容易)”则进一步阐述了道歉带来的连锁反应——自我原谅和宽恕他人,与E选项共同构成道歉的多重价值。故选E项。

【答案】A Charity Sale in Our School
On March 20th, a charity sale, organized by the Student Union, was held on our school playground to raise money for children in need.
Students from different grades participated enthusiastically, bringing handmade crafts, books, snacks, etc., and setting up stands to sell them at affordable prices. So much excitement was in the air that teachers and parents were attracted and participated. The playground buzzed with creativity — DIY workshops, a lively talent show, and interactive games drew most crowds. Two hours later, 10,200 yuan was raised.
Through this experience, we not only learned the value of teamwork but also felt the joy of helping others. As one participant puts it, small actions can make a big difference.

The Right Thing to Do
Fauna had always dreamed of keeping a pet. Time and again, she asked her parents, promising to walk, feed, and look after it. Each time, though, they gave the same gentle response: “We’ll see.”
One afternoon, on her way home from school, Fauna saw a little dog wandering near the park. Its fur was messy, and it looked lost, sniffing the ground as if searching for something. Feeling curious and hopeful, Fauna bent down and called to it. The dog quickly ran over, wagging (摇) its tail and gently pressing its nose into her hand, like they had known each other forever.
She looked around, but no one seemed to be searching for the dog. Feeling pity for the lost dog, Fauna decided to take it home. As they walked side by side, her heart swelled with joy. It felt as though this was the pet she had always dreamed of—a friend she had been waiting for.
At the front door, Fauna’s mother greeted her with a warm smile. Although she found the dog adorable, she gently reminded Fauna that they needed to try and find its owner. If the dog was lost, someone must be missing it. Fauna reluctantly (不情愿地) agreed, though part of her wished no one would come forward to claim the little dog.
Over the next few days, Fauna and the dog—whom she named Buddy—grew inseparable. She fed him, played with him, and let him sleep curled up at the foot of her bed. Every day, it became harder to imagine life without him. Buddy seemed happy too, wagging his tail whenever she came home from school. But Fauna knew deep down that she had to do the right thing. She and her parents posted flyers around town, hoping to find Buddy’s owner.
Just a few days later, the phone rang. Fauna’s heart sank as her father answered. From the conversation, it was clear that the caller was Buddy’s owner. He described Buddy perfectly—the friendly eyes and playful personality. Fauna knew Buddy would soon be leaving her. Her father arranged for the owner to come by and pick Buddy up.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;

That evening, Fauna sat quietly in her room, feeling the emptiness that Buddy’s absence had left behind.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
When the man arrived, the little dog ran straight into his arms, barking with joy. Fauna watched as Buddy wagged his tail furiously, licking the man’s face with excitement. It was clear that Buddy remembered his owner and was overjoyed to see him again. The man thanked Fauna and her family for taking such good care of Buddy. Fauna knelt down to give Buddy one last hug, whispering, “I’ll miss you, Buddy.” As the man led Buddy away, Fauna stood at the door, waving until they were out of sight.
That evening, Fauna sat quietly in her room, feeling the emptiness that Buddy’s absence had left behind. Her parents noticed her sadness and sat down with her. Her father said, “How about visiting the animal shelter this weekend? If you’re ready, maybe we can find a pet that needs a home—one that we can keep forever.” Fauna’s eyes lit up, and a small smile returned to her face. She realized that while saying goodbye to Buddy was hard, it had also opened the door to a new possibility—a chance to give another animal a loving home.

24. What does the underlined word “chronicle” in the first paragraph probably mean?

26. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
