October 12, 2025 was a big day for Taihe High School. The school celebrated its 100th birthday, welcoming hundreds of old alumni, retired teachers and current students to the campus. With colorful flags flying and red banners hanging, the whole school was filled with joy and pride. In the morning, alumni (校友) from different ages arrived one after another. Some were over 80 years old, walking slowly with sticks but smiling brightly; some were young workers in their 20s, taking photos excitedly. First, everyone visited the school history museum. There were yellowed old photos of the early campus, worn textbooks from the 1950s, and medals the school won over years. The most touching part was the “Alumni Honor Wall”, showing famous graduates: a Chinese Academy of Sciences academician, an education official, a well-known writer and successful entrepreneurs.   Then came the alumni forum. An 82-year-old retired teacher shared the school’s hard past: founded in 1925, it moved several times during the war but never stopped teaching. A 1978 alumni talked about his college entrance exam story — his class of 50 all went to university, which became a legend of Taihe High School. Current students listened carefully, feeling proud of their school’s history. The afternoon was full of wonderful shows. Students sang the old and new school songs, and alumni performed a short play about the school’s development. When the headmaster gave a speech, he said, “For 100 years, Taihe High School has kept the motto ‘Virtue, Knowledge, Aspiration and Action’. We will keep educating excellent people for our country.” The ceremony ended with all people singing together, and the sound echoed across the campus for a long time. This centennial celebration was not just a party. It was a moment to look back at the past and look forward to the future, letting everyone feel the deep love between the school and its people. 104.What did people do first during the centennial celebration on October 12? I took the role of Q&A.When I went back to the dormitory, I asked for help from an experienced debater in college. He taught me how to express ideas, search for information on different websites and list the points. After a week’s preparation, I stood on the stage with a well-thought plan in my mind. Then I noticed that the hope of our group, the American boy, was sick that day. His position of first speaker was empty. I had to take his position and plan my materials and data again. Before the debate, I kept asking myself what if I couldn’t understand what they were saying, and what if they included some idioms (惯用语) that I didn’t even know. I was even nervous. But when I stood in front of the whole class, I saw trust and encouragement from my group members. I started to cool down. I fluently stated our opinions and asked questions. When our opponents (对手) had their opening speech, I wrote down some points to retort (反驳) them. Although Mr. Kwak didn’t tell me who won the debate, I believe I have already learned a lot. Never lose confidence and you will surely win. 111.Why was the writer worried that day? A.She was not familiar with the topic. B.She knew nothing about debate skills. B.When she saw support from her group members. C.When she found one of her group members was sick. 115.What does the writer want to tell us? A.We should never lose confidence. B.We need to prepare a lot before a debate. C.Nobody can succeed without friends’ support. A school has created its very own bakery (面包店) to sell cakes and bread directly to a coffee shop to help develop children’s real-life business skills. Castle Newnham Bakery was started by GCSE hospitality and catering (酒店与餐饮业) pupils at the Bedford school which now sells its goods (商品) to Mooch Coffee in the town. The partnership came about when Martin Jenkins, a partner at the shop attended his son’s sports day at Castle Newnham School. He bought some sweet treats made by the catering pupils and was so impressed with the taste that he asked for an order. Now, every Thursday, the pupils make different kinds of cakes after school. They work in the school kitchen. The finished food is collected on Friday morning and taken to the store. Precious, 15, said: “I love visiting the coffee shop at the weekend and seeing our cakes being sold to the local community.” Asi, 15, said: “I would love to own a bakery, when I am older, so this is the perfect experience.” Mat Dunkley, another partner at the shop, said: “It’s just wonderful, we don’t treat them any differently because they’re children, we treat them like any other supplier (供应商). I’m proud of the partnership. We’re paying for a service and it gives pupils the chance to learn hands-on experience in hospitality, completing the full catering cycle by also supporting the community. We are also planning to do more including working with the school to host music evenings to further add to the pupils’ learning journey.” 116.What inspired Jenkins to work with the school bakery? A.The school’s invitation. B.The suggestion from his son. C.The school’s standing for good catering. A.Bakery colors pupils’ school life. B.Forming a partnership is a piece of cake. C.School starts bakery to sell goods to coffee shop. D.Making the bakery dream come true has a long way to go. Starting high school means changes in your life. Most teenagers look forward to the first day of high school, but still feel a little bit nervous. 120 Learn all you can about your first day before the first school day. Take part in some activities that are held at the school for new students to know the school better. If parents are invited to these activities, take yours with you. Carefully look over all the materials you receive. 121 122 Buy the things suggested on your teachers’ supply lists and place your materials for each class separately. 123 If you find you’re not doing well in a subject, make use of after-school study groups or ask your teacher to help you with your schoolwork. Consider private tutoring to get you through a difficult time. There are more extracurricular (课外的) activities in high school than in middle school, such as clubs, music and theatre groups, student government, and sports teams. Make friends and be seen at such school activities. 124 Ask someone in the school office about opportunities to take part in school activities if you don’t know how. This is a good time to do what you like doing and an opportunity to try new things. Who says school has to be all work and no play? Since you’re attending more activities in high school than in middle school, you’ll have to learn to manage your time. A.Keep up with your high school study. B.Get the things you will need for class. C.Keep a good balance of study and play. D.Enjoy your high school life like this way. E.Be sure you know where the school’s buildings are. F.You can follow these tips to make your new life easier. G.Join a club or other organizations to meet people and develop friendships. There is a soccer competition in our school every year. I decided to 125 the competition this year. Interestingly, I didn’t play soccer at all before participating in this competition, so I had to 126 very hard. After training, my skills improved so much that I could now pass the 127 accurately and I could also shoot with my teammates. We then had our 128 game. In the game, our team and our opponent (对手) were almost equally matched. As a defender, my main 129 is to stop the opponent’s attacks and pass the ball to our striker. Once I accidentally kicked the ball out of bounds, and the ball flew into the crowd. I felt 130 , getting ready to be blamed (责备). But to my surprise, my teammates just patted my shoulder and told me that I was doing well. The crowd even cheered and 131 me to keep playing. I felt the 132 from others and the charm of the competition as a team member. For the rest of the game, I made an effort to 133 and pass the ball. When the 134 sounded, we tied 1:1 in the competition. The other 135 and I were nervous because we weren’t sure if we could score a goal, but our captain hugged each of us and helped us to be 136 with a bright smile on her face. She said, “Don’t worry about the score. What you should do is 137 each and every game!” Even though we didn’t 138 the game in the end, I have gained a new understanding of soccer. Honor and victories aren’t all that matter. When we were studying something about DNA, Mr. Kwak, the science teacher, told us to prepare for a debate (辩论). I was a little worried. We found we were against a group which was filled with native English-speaking students, while there was only one American boy in our group. However, we didn’t dread the challenge. Our topic was “Should college accept students based on their DNA traits (特征)?” We opposed this thought. C.Her group had only one native speaker. 112.What does the underlined word “dread” mean? 113.What did the writer do to prepare for the debate? A.She learned some English idioms. B.She asked for help from her teacher. C.She searched for information on the Internet. 114.When did the writer calm down? A.When she could understand her opponents. B.When she saw support from her group members. C.When she found one of her group members was sick. 115.What does the writer want to tell us? A.We should never lose confidence. B.We need to prepare a lot before a debate. C.Nobody can succeed without friends’ support. 根据第一段中的“I was a little worried. We found we were against a group which was filled with native English-speaking students, while there was only one American boy in our group. (我有点担心。我们发现对手组全是英语母语者,而我们组只有一个美国男孩。)”可知,作者担心是因为自己小组只有一名英语母语者,与对手组实力存在语言层面的差距。故选C项。 112.词句猜测题。根据第一段中的“I was a little worried. We found we were against a group which was filled with native English-speaking students, while there was only one American boy in our group. (我当时有点担心。我们发现自己要对阵的是一个全由母语为英语的学生组成的团队,而我们团队里只有一个美国男孩。)”可知,此处表示作者有点担心,结合下文的“however”表转折,前后句语义相反,前文提及“担心”,后文应表示“不害怕挑战”,因此“dread”意为“惧怕”。故选B项。 113.细节理解题。根据第二段中的“When I went back to the dormitory, I asked for help from an experienced debater in college. He taught me how to express ideas, search for information on different websites and list the points. (回到宿舍后,我向一位有经验的大学辩手求助。他教我如何表达观点、在不同网站上搜索信息以及罗列要点。)”可知,作者为辩论做的准备包括在网上搜索信息。故选C项。 114.细节理解题。根据第三段中的“But when I stood in front of the whole class, I saw trust and encouragement from my group members. I started to cool down. (但当我站在全班同学面前时,我看到了组员们的信任和鼓励,我开始冷静下来。)”可知,看到组员的支持时,作者冷静了下来。故选B项。 115.推理判断题。根据第三段中的“Although Mr. Kwak didn’t tell me who won the debate, I believe I have already learned a lot. Never lose confidence and you will surely win. (虽然郭老师没说谁赢了辩论,但我相信自己学到了很多。永不失去信心,你就一定会成功。)”可知,作者想告诉我们“永远不要失去信心”。故选A项。 A school has created its very own bakery (面包店) to sell cakes and bread directly to a coffee shop to help develop children’s real-life business skills. D.The treats he bought at the school’s sports day. 117.What can we learn from Precious and Asi’s words? A.They value this chance. B.They find it difficult to bake cakes. C.They are thankful for the local community. D.They are satisfied with their baked goods. 118.What does Dunkley think of the partnership with the school? A.It is difficult to carry out. B.It helps his shop sell more goods. C.It has more disadvantages than advantages. D.It is good for both pupils and the community. 119.What is the best title for the text? A.Bakery colors pupils’ school life. B.Forming a partnership is a piece of cake. C.School starts bakery to sell goods to coffee shop. D.Making the bakery dream come true has a long way to go. 根据第三段“The partnership came about when Martin Jenkins, a partner at the shop attended his son’s sports day at Castle Newnham School.
