Do you know that your shadow (影子) changes during the day? Go outside on a sunny day and look at your shadow in the morning. It is very long. At noon, it becomes short. In the afternoon, it grows long again. Why does this happen?
It happens because the sun moves across the sky. In the morning, the sun is low in the east. Light comes from a low angle (角度), so your shadow is long. At noon, the sun is high above you. Light comes from a high angle, so your shadow is short. In the afternoon, the sun goes down in the west. Again, the light is from a low angle, so your shadow is long again.
People long ago used shadows to tell time. They built tall stones called sundials (日晷). The shadow of the stone would point to different numbers as the sun moved. This was one of the earliest clocks.
Today, we have watches and phones to tell time. But next time you are outside on a sunny day, look at your shadow. Notice how it changes. You are watching time move!

A. In the morning.
B. At noon.

A. A modern clock.
B. A tool to measure shadows.

( )65. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Shadows are longer on cloudy days.
B. People in the past used shadows to tell time.
C. The sun moves around the earth.
D. Shadows only appear in the morning.

Then something unexpected happened. An old woman came up to us. She said, "Thank you, children. I walk in this park every morning. Today, for the first time in months, I see green grass. You have made my day."
