The global climate (全球气候) has been changing over thousands of years. The global average temperature (平均气温) today is about 15℃. Scientists find that the planet is warming faster than ever before. The 20 warmest years on record have been in the past 22 years. If this situation continues, temperatures may rise by 3—5℃ by 2100.
Scientists say we should try to stop the situation and not allow the global average temperature to rise more than 1.5℃. Even a 2℃ rise will be bad for us all. Now, 0.5℃ doesn’t sound like much—but it could make a big difference to the planet.
A 2℃ rise means that all the coral reefs (珊瑚礁) will disappear, but a 1.5℃ rise means that there will still be some. Also, 18 percent of the insects (昆虫) on the earth will disappear if the temperature goes up by 2℃. But only 6 percent will disappear at 1.5℃. A 2℃ rise will also mean that 37 percent of people will be influenced by dangerous heatwaves. That’s twice the number compared to at a 1.5℃ rise.
Do you want to know what scientists say? They say that everyone and everything is far better off in a world that limits the rise to 1.5℃.
So, what can we do? Please return to us in our magazine next month, you will read about the advice given by the world’s top scientists, researchers and leading environmental protectors. We’d also like to hear about your ideas and suggestions. Please write to us at 123socialmagazine@yahoo.co.uk. Let’s work together to limit the temperature rise to 1.5℃.

For both musicians and their fans, it’s hard to say no to the excitement of a live concert. For fans, staying with others who share the same hobby and seeing their favorite musicians face to face are so exciting. For musicians, concert tours allow them to connect with their listeners and make big money.
So what happens when live tours are no longer possible? In early 2020, governments stopped people from traveling and staying together because of COVID-19(新冠病毒). Tours and concerts were cancelled, leaving both musicians and fans disappointed.
But musicians are creative, and technology can bring people together in ways that were impossible just ten years ago. And so one performer after another began to offer online concerts.
These online concerts were simple. Musicians just filmed themselves playing in their houses. They livestreamed (直播) their songs and listeners loved these online events. Online concerts are a great way for musicians to connect with their fans during a difficult time. In addition, they are a great way to bring people together. Although some online concerts require payment, most of them are free. And this raises questions about whether they will continue when live concerts come back.
It is easy for artists to offer free music online when no one can leave their homes. But long-term, it can stop them from selling CDS or tickets to live shows. However, free online concerts may be a good way for bands to win new fans. People who might not normally listen to an artist’s music may meet an online concert accidentally. This increases the number of people buying a musician’s music. Free concerts can be a good business decision after all.
37.The underlined word “them” in the first paragraph refers to ________.
A.governments B.listeners C.musicians D.concert tours
38.What’s the advantage of online concerts according to the passage?
A.Fans can see their favorite musicians face to face.
B.People can be brought together during a hard time.
C.Musicians can travel around to give free concerts.
D.Fans will surely buy more CDs and tickets to live concerts.
39.What’s the writer’s opinion towards the future of free online concerts?
A.He can’t stand it. B.He’s crazy about it.
C.He doesn’t mind it. D.He’s kind of supportive.
40.In which column of a newspaper can we read this passage?
A.Environment. B.Travel. C.Education. D.Arts.

C.Musicians can travel around to give free concerts.
D.Fans will surely buy more CDs and tickets to live concerts.
39.What’s the writer’s opinion towards the future of free online concerts?
A.He can’t stand it. B.He’s crazy about it.
C.He doesn’t mind it. D.He’s kind of supportive.
40.In which column of a newspaper can we read this passage?
A.Environment. B.Travel. C.Education. D.Arts.

A.governments B.listeners C.musicians D.concert tours

39.What’s the writer’s opinion towards the future of free online concerts?
A.He can’t stand it. B.He’s crazy about it.

My favourite animal
As we know, animals are our friends. My favourite animal is the giant panda.
Pandas are black and white, with round fat bodies and cute black eye circles. They mainly live in the bamboo forests in Sichuan, and feed on fresh bamboo. I love pandas because they look lovely, and they are the national treasure. To protect pandas, we can build more large nature reserves to offer them safe living places.
