Many people who work in London prefer to live outside it, and to go in to their offices or schools every day by train, car or bus, even though this means they have to get up early in the morning and reach home late in the evening.
One advantage of living outside London is that houses are cheaper. Even a small flat in London without a garden costs quite a lot to rent. With the same money, one can get a little house in the country with a garden of one’s own.
Then, in the country one can rest from the noise and hurry of the town. Even though one has to get up earlier and spend more time in trains or buses, one can sleep better at night and during weekends and on summer evenings, one can enjoy the fresh, clean air of the country. If one likes gardens, one can spend one’s free time digging, planting, watering and doing the hundred and one other jobs which are needed in a garden. Then, when the flowers and vegetables come up, one has the reward (回报) of one who has shared the secret of Nature.
Some people, however, take no interest in country things: for them, happiness lies in the town, with its cinemas and theatres, beautiful shops and busy streets, dance-halls and restaurants. Such people would feel that their life was not worth living if they had to live it outside London. An occasional walk in one of the parks and a fortnight’s (two weeks) visit to the sea every summer is all the country life they want: the rest they are quite prepared to leave to those who are glad to get away from London every night.
41.Which of the following statements is NOT true?
A.People who like country things prefer to live outside the city.
B.Many people who work in London prefer to live in the country.
C.Some people like to live inside London for their office work.
D.Even a little house in the country usually has a garden of its own.
42.One can use the same money for to buy a little house with a garden in the country.
A.getting a small flat with a garden B.having a small flat with a garden
C.renting a small flat without a garden D.buying a small flat without a garden
43.When the flowers and vegetables in the garden come up, those have the reward of one who has shared the secret of Nature.
A.who live in a small flat in the downtown areas
B.who have spent time working in the garden
C.who do not have a garden of their own
D.who have been to the sea for a fortnight
44.People who think happiness lies in the town would feel that if they had to live it outside London.
A.their life was meaningless B.their life was valuable
C.they didn’t deserve a happy life D.they lived their life to the fullest
45.The underlined word rest in the last paragraph refers to ________.
A.the rest time B.the rest of the people
C.the rest of the country life D.the rest of the parks and of the sea
【答案】41.C 42.C 43.B 44.A 45.C
【导语】文章主要讲述了人们对在伦敦市内还是市外居住的不同看法及各自的理由。
【详解】41.细节理解题。最后一段的“Some people, however, take no interest in country things: for them, happiness lies in the town, with its cinemas and theatres, beautiful shops and busy streets, dance-halls and restaurants.(然而,有些人对乡村事物不感兴趣:对他们来说,幸福在于城镇,有电影院和剧院、美丽的商店和繁忙的街道、舞厅和餐馆)”可知,有些人喜欢住在伦敦,是因为那里有电影院和剧院、美丽的商店和繁忙的街道、舞厅和餐馆,而不是因为他们的工作,所以C选项描述错误。
42.细节理解题。 根据第二段中“Even a small flat in London without a garden costs quite a lot to rent. With the same money, one can get a little house in the country with a garden of one's own(即使是伦敦一套没有花园的小公寓,租金也相当高。用同样的钱,你可以在乡下买一栋带花园的小房子)”可知,租一套没有花园的小公寓的钱可以用来在乡下买一栋带花园的小房子。
43.细节理解题。 根据第三段中“If one likes gardens, one can spend one’s free time digging, planting, watering and doing the hundred and one other jobs which are needed in a garden. Then, when the flowers and vegetables come up, one has the reward (回报) of one who has shared the secret of Nature.(如果一个人喜欢花园,他可以把空闲时间花在挖掘、种植、浇水和做花园里需要的无数其他工作上。然后,当鲜花和蔬菜出现时,一个人会得到一个分享自然秘密的人的回报)”可知,那些花时间在花园里劳作的人才能获得回报。
44.细节理解题。 根据最后一段中“Such people would feel that their life was not worth living if they had to live it outside London.(这些人会觉得如果不得不住在伦敦以外,他们的生活就不值得过)”可知,他们会觉得生活毫无意义。
45.词句猜测题。 根据最后一段中“An occasional walk in one of the parks and a fortnight’s (two weeks) visit to the sea every summer is all the country life they want: the rest they are quite prepared to leave to those who are glad to get away from London every night.(每年夏天,偶尔在公园散步,两周(两周)的海边之旅,就是他们想要的乡村生活:那些 rest,他们准备留给那些每天晚上都愿意离开伦敦的人)”可知,rest指的是除偶尔公园散步和每年两周海边度假之外的其余乡村生活。

Computer scientists have hoped to give robots technical skills to help them recognize, process and react to humor. But these attempts have mostly failed. AI experts say that in many cases, attempts to make robots understand humor end up producing funny results, but not in the way they were supposed to.
Tristan Miller studied more than 10,000 puns (双关语) in one research project. The pun is a kind of joke that uses a word with two meanings. For example, you could say, “Balloons do not like pop music” The word “pop” can be a way of saying popular music or can mean the sound a balloon makes when it explodes. But a robot might not get the joke. Tristan Miller says that is because humor is a kind of creative language that is extremely difficult for computer intelligence to understand.
Allison Bishop is a computer scientist and she also performs stand-up Comedy. She explained that machines are trained to look for patterns. Comedy, on the other hand, relies on things that stay close to a pattern, but not completely within it. To be funny, humor should also not be predictable. Bishop said “this sets a great barrier for a machine to recognize and understand what is funny.”
Bishop says since robots have great difficulty understanding humor, she feels like it gives her better job security as a comedy performer. It even made her parents happy when her brother decided to become a full-time comedy-writer because it meant he wouldn’t be replaced by a machine, she added.
Despite the difficulties, Darmstadt University’s Miller says there are good reasons to keep trying to teach humor to robots. It could make machines more relatable, especially if they can learn to understand sarcasm (讽刺), he noted. Humans use sarcasm to say one thing but mean another. But Kiki Hempelmann thinks differently. “Teaching AI systems humor may make them find it where it isn’t, and they may use it where it’s inappropriate,” he said. “Maybe bad AI will start killing people because it thinks something is funny,” he added.
46.What does the author most probably want to show in paragraph 1?
A.Robots’ influence on the scientific development.
B.Computer scientists’ concern about AI’s development.
C.Computer scientists’ devotion to technical skills.
D.Robots’ challenges of making sense of humor.
47.Examples mentioned in paragraphs 2 and 3 are intended to ________.
A.prove robots do poorly in funny work
B.show language can’t be taught in a set pattern
C.describe language is complex and changeable
D.explain robots aren’t as intelligent as humans
48.What can we learn about the jobs of Bishop and her brother?
A.They are free from robots’ influence. B.They are more suitable for robots.
C.They are very demanding. D.They are very rewarding.
49.What can we infer about teaching AI system humor from the last paragraph?
A.It will end up in vain.
B.It may be a double-edged sword.
C.It may help improve humans’ humor.
D.It will attract more computer scientists.
50.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.The major drawbacks of teaching AI system humor
B.How robots’ language ability develops
C.The future development trend of AI system
D.Why robots’ humor mostly falls flat

In the Hollywood movie The Martian, actor Matt Damon plays an astronaut who grows food on Mars (火星) to survive alone on the red planet.
After seeing the movie, Washington State University physicist Michael Allen and University of Idaho food scientist Helen Joyner decided to carry out a case study helping students figure out how to farm on Mars. In the case study, students had to imagine they were mining on Mars and decide how to feed themselves there before starting on the journey. They got advice from Allen and Joyner on how to select crops and take the challenges of growing crops over long periods on Mars. Students used a scoring system to select three foods to plant on Mars.
Allen found the results impressive: among 30 students, “no two people have ever gotten the same answer”, he said.
Human travelers to Mars will likely have to make use of resources on the planet rather than take everything they need with them on a spaceship. This means farming their own food on another planet, one that has a very different ecosystem (生态系统) from Earth’s.
One problem for those who would like to live on Mars is the fact that there can be no farming tools. Like real astronauts, students taking part in the study cannot take farming tools with them. As Joyner put it to his student astronauts, “You are starting with nothing.” Besides, students also have to deal with a very limited choice of diet. “If you had to eat a single food for the rest of your life, could you do it?” Joyner asked.
But Allen believes the case study is about more than farming and eating on the Red Planet. “I’m not teaching about growing food on Mars,” Allen said. “I’m teaching about living with choices. I’m teaching about problem solving.”
51.What gave Michael Allen and Helen Joyner the idea for their case study?
A.A famous book about space travel.
B.Their work as university teachers.
C.Planning for a real journey to Mars.
D.A movie about farming on Mars.
52.What did the students have to do in the case study?
A.Start their task with all necessary equipment.
B.Experiment with different farming tools.
C.Select three types of food to grow on Mars.
D.Watch the movie The Martian before starting.
53.What might be the difficulties for people living on Mars?
A.They have a limited choice of diet.
B.They have a lot of farming tools.
C.They have to take part in the study.
D.They have to select crops on Mars.
54.What does Michael Allen say the students really learn from this study?
A.How to grow food in a garden. B.How to think and find answers.
C.More facts about our planet Earth. D.How to find things to eat on Mars.
55.What is the passage mainly about?
A.A plan for living alone on Earth. B.The story from a movie about space.
C.A class project on food for Mars. D.The work of two school teachers.

第三部分:写作
第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
A seed expert who brought high-quality vegetable seeds to many countries, was awarded the 2019 World Food Prize. Simon Groot of the Netherlands is credited with introducing high-quality, disease-resistance vegetable seeds to more than 60 countries including the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia.
He began his search to create better vegetable seeds to help farmers in Southeast Asia in1981. Sixteen years earlier, he had made his first trip to Indonesia. There, Groot learned that vegetable seeds which were developed for the climate of Europe, did poorly when planted in the hot tropics. He thought there was a great possibility to introduce hybrid vegetables to the area. The area lacked vegetable seed developers who were trying to create hybrids for the local climate. “I noticed the seed quality in that part of world was so much below our standards and below achievable standards. I could not stand that the farmers there did not have better seeds.”Said Groot.
At that time, farmers in Southeast Asia usually saved seeds from season to season. That was because the seeds available for sale were often old. Those seeds were usually from Europe or North America and did not grow well in their tropical climate. This meant that the farmers ended up with smaller crops, and lower quality that changed greatly from season to season. The plant also could easily become infected with diseases.
Groot partnered with seed trader Benito Domingo of the Philippines. They put together a team of seed researchers and growers from Wageninge University in the Netherlands and the University of the Philippines. Within a few years, they developed a hybrid bitter gourd (苦瓜) that sold successfully. Then they modified a tomato plant, followed by eggplants, pumpkins and leafy vegetables.
The early success led to the start of the East-West Seed Company, which now has more than 970 improved seeds of 60 vegetable crops. Over the past 40 years, the discoveries have led to the creation of a tropical vegetable seed industry aimed at small farmers. The tropical seeds are now spreading into Asia, Africa and Latin America. It is estimated that the company’s seeds are used by 20 million farmers each year in more than 60 countries.
56.Why was Groot awarded the 2019 World Food Prize ? (No more than 10 words.)
57.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 2?(no more than 10 words)
58.What made the plants not grow well in Southeast Asia in the past? (No more than 15words)
59.What does the underlined word in the Paragraph 4 most probably mean?(Only 1 word)
60.What do you think of Groot’s work? And give your reasons. (No more than 25 words)
【答案】56.Because he brought high-quality vegetable seeds to many countries. 57.The reason for Groot to start his search. 58.The seeds available for sale were often old and unsuitable for the tropical climate. 59.Improved/Changed. 60.I think Groot’s work is meaningful because it has helped farmers and improved vegetable production and quality, contributing to global food security.
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了荷兰种子专家Simon Groot因向多国推广优质蔬菜种子而获2019年世界粮食奖。
【详解】56.考查细节理解。根据第一段中“A seed expert who brought high-quality vegetable seeds to many countries, was awarded the 2019 World Food Prize. Simon Groot of the Netherlands is credited with introducing high-quality, disease-resistance vegetable seeds to more than 60 countries including the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia.(一位将优质蔬菜种子带到许多国家的种子专家获得了2019年世界粮食奖。荷兰的Simon Groot因向包括菲律宾、泰国和印度尼西亚在内的60多个国家推广优质、抗病蔬菜种子而受到赞誉)”可知,Groot获得2019年世界粮食奖是因为他将优质蔬菜种子带到了许多国家。故答案为Because he brought high-quality vegetable seeds to many countries.
57.考查段落大意。根据第二段中“He began his search to create better vegetable seeds to help farmers in Southeast Asia in1981. Sixteen years earlier, he had made his first trip to Indonesia. There, Groot learned that vegetable seeds which were developed for the climate of Europe, did poorly when planted in the hot tropics.(1981年,他开始寻找更好的蔬菜种子来帮助东南亚的农民。十六年前,他首次踏上了前往印度尼西亚的旅程。在那里,Groot了解到,那些为欧洲气候条件而培育的蔬菜种子,在炎热的热带地区种植时表现欠佳)”以及本段剩余内容可知,本段主要讲述了Groot开始寻找更好的蔬菜种子的原因。故答案为The reason for Groot to start his search.
58.考查细节理解。根据第三段中“That was because the seeds available for sale were often old. Those seeds were usually from Europe or North America and did not grow well in their tropical climate.(那是因为可供出售的种子通常都很旧。这些种子通常来自欧洲或北美,在热带气候下生长得不好)”可知,过去植物在东南亚生长不好的原因是可买到的种子通常都很旧,且这些种子通常来自欧洲或北美,不适合在热带气候下生长。故答案为The seeds available for sale were often old and unsuitable for the tropical climate.
59.考查词义猜测。根据划线词前一句话“Within a few years, they developed a hybrid bitter gourd (苦瓜) that sold successfully.(在几年之内,他们培育出了一种杂交苦瓜,并且这种苦瓜成功上市销售)”以及“Then(然后)”及“a tomato plant, followed by eggplants, pumpkins and leafy vegetables.(一种番茄植株,接着是茄子、南瓜和绿叶蔬菜。)”可知,他们成功开发了杂交苦瓜,接着说对番茄植株做了“modified”,后面又提到茄子、南瓜和多叶蔬菜,结合语境可知是对番茄植株进行了改良,modified意思是“改变,改良”。故答案为Improved/Changed.
60.考查开放回答。本题为开放性试题,答案不唯一,合理即可。根据文章内容可知,Groot的工作是有意义的,因为他的工作帮助了农民,提高了蔬菜产量和质量,对全球粮食安全做出了贡献。故答案为I think Groot’s work is meaningful because it has helped farmers and improved vegetable production and quality, contributing to global food security.

AI and Learning: A Survey Among Peers
Our recent survey of 500 high school seniors conducted by our research group revealed striking differences in attitudes toward AI-assisted learning among senior three students. About 65% believe AI improves efficiency by helping with grammar checks, problem explanations, and knowledge review. However, 35% worry about over-reliance and dishonesty, while 25% remain neutral due to limited experience.
Supporters value AI’s convenience and personalized support, especially during self-study. Critics fear it may weaken independent thinking or lead to plagiarism. Some also question the accuracy of AI-generated content.
Personally, AI is a useful tool if used responsibly. It offers instant feedback and broadens learning resources. But we must balance its use with critical thinking. Schools should guide students on ethical and effective AI use, ensuring it supports rather than replaces real learning.
