Daisy was a lovely girl in the town and everyone liked her. However, the little girl was crazy about sweet food. She ate sweet food almost every day. Her parents worried about her, so they collected all the sweet food at home and hid(藏)it.
Feeling sad, Daisy left home to look for something fun. She stopped in front of a small house. There were lots of old glasses of all sizes in the house. Among them, Daisy noticed a special glass. As Kunqu Opera is getting popular, young people are helping bring fresh life to the old art.
He Xinyue, 21, is one of the 38 young performers all born after 2000 — at the Jiangsu Kunqu Opera Theatre. She fell in love with Kunqu Opera when she first watched it at school. “I’m lucky that my parents supported (支持) me. By learning the traditional opera, I found not just Kunqu’s beauty but also myself,” He said.
The performers started training at an early age. They practice skills like backflips, leg stretches and backbends(后空翻、压腿、下腰)every day. At the theatre, early morning exercises become part of their daily life. He said, “There are no shortcuts (捷径) to learning Kunqu — just a lot of practice.”
