Stewart spent his life studying and photographing sharks and other sea creatures, and creating films. Sadly, he died in 2017 at the age of 37 in a diving accident. The accident happened while Stewart was filming Sharkwater Extinction, which members of his crew completed after his death. Knowing that about 25% of shark species were endangered and sharks might soon be extinct, Stewart worked hard to raise awareness of sharks and their key role in nature. Stewart believed that they should be protected against humans and other enemies. He studied how illegally shark finning has led to a great fall in the shark population. When Stewart found out about the finning, he tried to end it. As an experienced diver and skilled cinematographer, he was able to raise awareness of the problem by filming sharks in their natural environment. His films, said Sandy Stewart, showed people “how beautiful the underwater creatures are. People would fall in love with them and work to protect them.” As of 2013, 55 countries had banned shark finning. Stewart lived and died a hero in the pursuit of saving sharks and the sea. He is believed to have saved one-third of the world’s sharks. Stewart’s parents hope kids will continue his story by supporting shark-friendly actions. They encourage kids to buy or ask their parents to buy shark-free products. Another thing that young people can do is learn more about sharks. A good place to start is 2 “Shark Database,” an online resource that was created by Rob Stewart’s friends. “It’s your generation that we want to make sure sees the world that Rob saw and does whatever you can to protect the big fish,” said Stewart’s father. “One person can make a big difference.” 4. You can hear it in songs by many different artists. But why are they counting? The counting you hear is a small clue to a big fact — math is behind almost everything in music! Let’s wonder together! First, let’s start with “counting in”. Musicians will often count to make sure that they all start the song at the same time. Once they start together, everyone has to stay on the same beat. Every song has a steady beat. One of the first ways that young children can start to learn math ideas is learning how to make a steady beat! A steady beat is one kind of pattern. Other patterns in music relate to math, too. We can see patterns in how far apart notes are from each other. Sometimes we play more than one note at a time. Musicians also need numbers to understand how to play music. If you look at written music, you will see two numbers on the left side. Often, the numbers are 4/4. This is called the time signature. The top number of it tells the musician how many beats are in each part of the line of music. The second number tells us what type of note gets one beat. The “4” on the bottom lets us know that a quarter note gets one beat. It is clear that music is good for our brains, whether or not it makes us better at math. Playing music uses several parts of your brain at the same time. Musicians need to use their brains to see the music, hear the notes, and touch the instrument in just the right ways to make sounds! These are just a few of the ways that music and math are related. As you learn more about music and math, you’ll see more connections! 8. What is the purpose of the first paragraph? A. To give some examples. B. To introduce the main topic. C. To present an academic achievement. D. To list the impact of some famous musicians. 9. What does the second number of the time signature mean? A. What category of note gets one beat. B. What varieties songs should have. C. How many beats are in each measure. D. How the former note is transformed into the next. 10. How does the author think about learning music? A. Dizzy but powerful. B. Complicated but rewarding. C. Time-consuming but relaxing. D. Expensive but pleasant. 11. What can be inferred from the text? A. To learn math well, you should have a good command of music. B. The performance of one’s music may have an effect on that of one’s math. C. The more you learn music, the more broadminded you will be. D. People’s taste in music varies from person to person. B 9. A 10. B 11. 根据第一段“Have you ever noticed that some songs start with a “one, two, three, four”? You can hear it in songs by many different artists. But why are they counting? The counting you hear is a small clue to a big fact — math is behind almost everything in music! Let’s wonder together! (你是否曾注意到有些歌曲开头会唱“一、二、三、四”这样的歌词?在许多不同艺术家的歌曲中,你都能听到这种唱法。但为什么他们会这样做呢?你所听到的这种计数方式其实是一个重要事实的小小线索——数学几乎贯穿了音乐中的所有方面!让我们一起探索吧!)”可知,第一段引出文章主题,介绍音乐和数学之间的关系。故选B。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“The second number tells us what type of note gets one beat. (第二个数字则告诉我们每小节中哪种音符占据一个节拍。)”可知,第二个数字告诉我们什么类型的音符占一个节拍。故选A。 根据第五段“It is clear that music is good for our brains, whether or not it makes us better at math. Playing music uses several parts of your brain at the same time. (显然,音乐对我们的大脑有益,无论它是否能让我们在数学方面表现得更好。演奏音乐会同时调动大脑的多个区域。)”可知,作者认为学习音乐复杂却有益。故选B。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“As you learn more about music and math, you’ll see more connections! (随着你对音乐和数学的了解不断加深,你会发现更多的关联!)”可知,一个人在音乐上的表现可能会影响到他在数学上的表现。故选B。 ( D ) A new study introduces an AI-driven strategy that has changed the way scientists locate and protect endangered species. The study, “Optimal Learning and Management of Threatened Species”, was first designed to help track the Hainan gibbon (海南长臂猿), one of the world's most endangered species, with only 42 remaining. The Hainan gibbon was once widely found in the rainforest of Hainan Island, China, but habitat destruction and hunting have pushed it towards extinction. Today, the whole known population lives in a protected area of only 6 square miles. However, there have been unverified (未经证实的) sightings in other forested areas, and finding any remaining gibbons is the most important task. “It is like playing Whack-a-Mole (打地鼠 ) in the dark. You need to hit the mole exactly at the right time and in the right place,” says lead author Jue Wang from Queen's University. “If you don't manage your efforts in the right place at the right time, the species may die out before you even know it was there.” The researchers developed a model to help scientists decide where and how long to search, and how to divide their efforts between searching and protecting the species. Using the model, the research team found that areas in which gibbons had never been recorded before might actually be the best places to search, challenging traditional methods. The model helps scientists identify the most important search areas, avoid wasted efforts in low-probability locations, and speed up efforts to locate and protect species before they disappear. With the loss of plants and animals at an all-time high, scientists need smarter tools that can work faster and more efficiently (高效地). “This research provides a new solution that can be immediately applied to species recovery efforts worldwide, giving extremely endangered animals the best chance of survival,” says Roozbeh Yousefi of Queen's University. 12. What do we know about Hainan gibbons from paragraph 2? A. Their actual number might be larger. B. Their habitats used to be well protected. C. They didn't like the rainforest of Hainan. D. They couldn't be found in the forested areas. 13. What is Jue Wang's purpose in referring to Whack-a-Mole? A. To stress the need for quick searches. B. To introduce the hiding skills of gibbons. C. To describe the fun of the search process. D. To show the challenge of timely discovery. 14. What does the model help scientists do? A. Identify lost species. B. Propose search areas. C. Record Hainan gibbons. D. Divide traditional methods. 15. Why does Roozbeh Yousefi think highly of the model? A. It lowers the cost of species recovery. B. It suits technology-limited regions well, C. It successfully saves endangered species. D. It provides a ready-to-use global solution. A 13. D 14. B 15. 根据第二段“However, there have been unverified sightings in other forested areas, and finding any remaining gibbons is the most important task. (然而,在其他林区有未经证实的目击记录,找到任何剩余的长臂猿是最重要的任务。)”可知,在其他林区有未经证实的目击记录,说明海南长臂猿的实际数量可能比已知的42只更多。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段Jue Wang所说的“It is like playing Whack-a-Mole in the dark. You need to hit the mole exactly at the right time and in the right place (这就像在黑暗中打地鼠。你需要在正确的时间和正确的地点准确地打中地鼠)”以及“If you don't manage your efforts in the right place at the right time, the species may die out before you even know it was there (如果你没有在正确的时间和地点管理好你的努力,这个物种可能在你甚至不知道它存在之前就灭绝了)”可知,他用打地鼠来比喻在黑暗中寻找濒危物种的困难,目的是说明及时发现物种的挑战之大。 根据第四段“The model helps scientists identify the most important search areas, avoid wasted efforts in low-probability locations, and speed up efforts to locate and protect species before they disappear. (该模型帮助科学家确定最重要的搜索区域,避免在低概率地点浪费精力,并加快在物种消失前定位和保护它们的努力。)”可知,该模型帮助科学家建议确定搜索区域。 【15题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段Roozbeh Yousefi所说的“This research provides a new solution that can be immediately applied to species recovery efforts worldwide, giving extremely endangered animals the best chance of survival (这项研究提供了一种可以立即应用于全球物种恢复工作的新解决方案,给极度濒危的动物最好的生存机会)”可知,他高度评价该模型是因为它提供了一个可以立即使用的全球解决方案。 The Chinese lunar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. The community also awarded him a kindness certificate. Last Friday noon, the sun was shining brightly, and Li Hua was walking on his way to school with his schoolbag on his back. He was humming a light song, looking forward to the afternoon classes. Suddenly, a loud "thud" caught his attention. He turned around quickly and saw an old grandma fall to the ground. The grandma was carrying a big basket full of fresh vegetables, and all the vegetables rolled out onto the road, some even got dirty. Soon, several passers-by stopped to watch. Some of them frowned and whispered to each other, worrying that they might be framed if they helped. Some looked at their watches in a hurry, shook their heads and left, because they didn’t want to be late for work or other things. A few people just stood there quietly, staring at the grandma, but no one took a step forward to help her. The scene was a little cold, and the grandma looked painful, trying to stand up but failing. When Li Hua saw this, his heart tightened. He stopped walking and stood there, feeling a little nervous and confused. He really wanted to run over to help the grandma, because the grandma looked so helpless. But at the same time, He remembered the stories his classmates had told his before — some people were misunderstood and even sued after helping others who fell down. He hesitated, his hands clenched tightly. “What if the grandma blames me for making her fall?” He thought to himself. “But if I don’t help her, she might stay on the road for a long time and get more hurt. What if no one else helps his?” Meanwhile, he was also anxious: “What if I stop to help and I will be late for school?” These thoughts kept running through his mind. He stood there for about a minute, looking at the grandma’s painful expression and the cold eyes of the passers-by. Finally, his kindness defeated his hesitation. He took a deep breath and walked quickly to the grandma, bending down to help his stand up gently. Li Hua picked up the vegetables and cleaned the dust off the grandma’s clothes. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Li Hua picked up the vegetables and cleaned the dust off the grandma’s clothes. What do we know about Rob Stewart? A. He died because of a shark attack. B. He was interested in sea animals. C. He led a research team studying the sea. D. He made Sharkwater Extinction in 2017. 5. What did Rob Stewart do to end illegal shark finning? A. He made films showing sharks living naturally. B. He encouraged people to buy shark-free products. C. He wrote to the government asking for a ban on shark finning. D. He collected information to show the influence of ilegal shark finning. 6. How may Rob Stewart’s action to save sharks be described? A. Creative. B. Successful. C. Fruitless. D. Unwelcome. 7. In “the world that Rob saw”, . A. little action was taken to protect sharks B. less than 50 countries banned shark finning C. about a quarter of shark species were in danger D. human behavior was the main cause of shark extinction ( C ) Have you ever noticed that some songs start with a “one, two, three, four”? ( D ) A new study introduces an AI-driven strategy that has changed the way scientists locate and protect endangered species. The Chinese lunar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
