Since 2018, British physicist Jessica Wade has been writing Wikipedia articles to elevate the profiles of female scientists. This initiative was inspired after she met climate researcher Kim Cobb at a conference. Impressed by Cobb’s work, Wade was horrified to find no Wikipedia page for her. That’s when Wade made the decision to write the first of many biographies (传记).
Since then, Wade has dedicated herself to increasing diversity in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). In less than a decade, she has created over 2,000 Wikipedia entries. Her focus is on women and other underrepresented scientists who have been overlooked. She highlighted a significant gap in a 2024 podcast, noting that while women make up 51% of the global population, only about 19% of English Wikipedia biographies are about women across all professions.
Through her research, Wade has rediscovered numerous pioneers. These include Dawn Shaughnessy, part of a team that discovered five super-heavy elements; Roma Agrawal, the lead engineer for London’s Shard skyscraper; and Gladys West, a Black mathematician whose work is crucial for GPS technology. Wade’s efforts have earned her recognition, including a TEDx Talk, the Rosalind Franklin Award, and praise from Wikipedia’s founder, Jimmy Wales.
However, Wade’s mission has faced opposition. Her biography on Clarice Phelps, a Black nuclear chemist involved in discovering a new element, faced scrutiny and even deletion threats from other Wikipedia editors. Wade successfully fought to keep the entry online.
Wade argues that the lack of diversity in science is not just unfair but negatively impacts research and innovation. Citing data from the American Association of University Women, she points out that women comprise only 26% of the STEM workforce, with Black and Hispanic (西班牙裔) women accounting for just 2% of engineers. She challenges the assumption that girls lack inspiration, stating that girls are already interested in science, and the key is to increase the proportion of women who stay in the field.
24.What motivated Wade to write her first Wikipedia entry?
A.Her desire to win scientific awards.
B.Her passion for promoting scientists.
C.A request from Wikipedia’s founder.
D.A noted scientist lacking Wikipedia page.
25.What was the main focus of Wade’s contributions to Wikipedia?
A.The scientific discoveries in the 21st century.
B.The careers of Black and Hispanic researchers.
C.The work of women and other ignored scientists.
D.The lives of the Rosalind Franklin Award winners.
26.What does the underlined word “scrutiny” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Public praise. B.Warm support.
C.Complete rejection. D.Thorough review.
27.What does the last paragraph present?
A.Wade’s main achievements.
B.Wade’s opinions on scientific circles.
C.The necessity of enhancing diversity in STEM.
D.The recognition Wade has received in STEM.

For many years, Guiyang Confucius Academy (孔子学院) has a programme called “Our Festivals”. It gives new life to four traditional Chinese festivals: the Spring Festival, the Tomb-Sweeping Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, and the Mid-Autumn Festival. A Chinese American girl called Sherry once said, “Tomorrow you’re turning Chinese.” This sentence became popular on TikTok. Many people around the world became interested in Chinese lifestyles. Her video got millions of views, and many users shared their own stories. Some users loved Chinese hotpot, drinking hot water and wearing house slippers (拖鞋). Others wanted to have rice porridge for breakfast and shared how to cook it. Soon, people from different countries posted videos about their “Chinese-style living”. They enjoyed slow-cooked soup and saw these habits as “Eastern wisdom”. It’s important to know: this trend is about daily Chinese habits, not changing nationality.
This online interest also includes healthy living. An American woman said drinking hot water and ginger tea often made her stomach feel better. Some foreign video makers started practising Baduanjin, a traditional Chinese exercise. They said it was good for building strength and keeping healthy. These examples show more and more foreigners are curious about Chinese traditions.
Travel is also changing how the world sees China. China’s 144-hour visa-free transit policy helps change old stereotypes (刻板印象). Visitors found a modern country with smart cars and digital payments. They saw practical wisdom in daily life, not just tai chi and calligraphy. Visiting China in person helps them understand the country better and more correctly.
In the past, some Chinese people ignored their own culture, believing “the foreign moon shines brighter”. Now, many foreigners love Chinese-style living. Today, the overseas welcome of Chinese-style living offers a mirror image, which lets Chinese people look again at their own traditions and find their wide attraction. This trend also helps change unfair pictures of China in old Western media. As more people visit China and share real stories, old stereotypes are slowly disappearing.
The popularity of Chinese daily life content on social media represents a new way of communication. By focusing on daily routines instead of difficult discussions, these short videos help Chinese culture achieve a “soft landing” overseas. As one American user put it, “We think being Chinese is cool and healthy.” This kind of exchange, based on real life, is quietly changing global views of China and building a more detailed understanding through the universal language of everyday life.
32.What characteristics do the habits in the first two paragraphs have?
A.Their connection to arts like calligraphy.
B.Their dependence on modern smart technology.
C.Their contribution to health and life.
D.They are advised by professional Chinese bloggers.
33.What does the author imply about the 144-hour visa-free policy?
A.It has replaced social media as the main source of information.
B.It helps people see the real China and change old wrong ideas.
C.It focuses on developing traditional arts like tai chi.
D.It aims to increase the usage of digital payments.
34.Why does the author use the phrase “mirror image” in Paragraph 4?
A.To prove that Chinese culture has always been the most popular worldwide.
B.To argue that Western media has a history of reflecting China correctly.
C.To show how international trends help Chinese people rethink their culture.
D.To explain why the “foreign moon” is no longer an object of interest for travelers.
35.How do short videos help Chinese culture achieve a “soft landing” overseas?
A.Discussing cultural values through social media debates.
B.Presenting Chinese culture through daily life routines.
C.Encouraging more Americans to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
D.Building more high-tech skills to improve China’s image.

I used to wake up and check my phone. Before my feet hit the floor, I was already deep in the day’s chaos: headlines, comments, breaking news alerts. Doomscrolling (刷屏成瘾) had become my morning routine. 36 I started each day tense and anxious. So I gave myself a quiet dare: no phone in the morning, for five straight weekdays.
Naturally, breaking the habit wasn’t easy. The first morning, I reached for my phone automatically. I stopped myself and picked up a book instead. It felt odd, like trying to enjoy coffee without caffeine. But after a few pages, I found myself actually relaxed — not the emptiness of a scroll, but something steadier. 37 That had never happened before.
Encouraged by the quiet start, I explored other ways. The next day I tried a cold shower. I wanted something that would force me fully awake. The shock factor was incredibly effective. 38 On Wednesday, I went for a run. I hated every step at first. But I came back awake, warm and proud. That feeling powered me through the day.
39 On Thursday, I journaled. No audience, just thoughts on paper. It felt honest, if not particularly exciting. On Friday, I reread an old letter and let the memories surface. It was quiet, uneventful and grounding.
By the end of the week, the urge to check my phone had weakened. 40 Those phone-free mornings proved a quieter start was possible: no noise or half-truths. It’s not about perfection, but freedom from the scroll and the misinformation it feeds into our minds.
A.But lately, I noticed the disadvantage it carried.
B.This left my mind surprisingly clear afterward.
C.Some mornings were more reflective than active.
D.It made me realize my dependence on my phone.
E.I even finished a chapter before checking the time.
F.That meant I stopped grabbing my phone on waking.
G.It revealed the link between my phone use and daily anxiety.

The traditional Chinese Lunar Calendar, a complex and precise timekeeping system 56 (base) on the cycles of the moon, has for millennia governed agricultural rhythms and cultural celebrations across East Asia. In stark contrast to the Gregorian solar calendar, 57 defines the year by Earth’s orbit around the sun, a lunar month is demarcated by the complete cycle of lunar phases, lasting approximately 29.5 days. To reconcile this lunar cycle with the longer solar year and thus keep the calendar in 58 (synchronize) with the seasons — a necessity for farming societies — an entire intercalary or “leap” month 59 (insert) approximately every three years. 60 makes the Chinese calendar a brilliant lunisolar hybrid. Consequently, the dates of festivals like the Spring Festival vary between January and February on the Gregorian calendar, 61 (create) a dynamic relationship between the two systems.
Each year within a repeating 12-year cycle 62 (assign) one of the zodiac animal signs, such as the Rat, Ox, or Tiger, collectively 63 (form) the Chinese zodiac. These symbols are deeply 64 (weave) into the cultural fabric, influencing traditions, folklore, and even perceptions of personality. While modern civic and international affairs operate primarily on the Gregorian calendar, the lunar calendar retains profound 65 (significant) for observing traditional holidays like the Mid-Autumn Festival and for selecting auspicious dates for weddings or business openings, maintaining a vital link to cultural heritage.

“Every day is the same.” Harry Black said to his wife, feeling that nothing new ever happened.
“I don’t want anything new to happen,” his wife said. “I’m happy. You’ve got a good job. We’ve got a nice house and a car. What else do you want?”
“I don’t just want every day to be the same.” said Harry.
Then his wife suggested they go for a walk down to the river, hoping to find something nice down there.
Harry and his wife walked down to the river. The sun was hot and they did not walk quickly. When they got to the river, they found some children playing, and a little girl in a red skirt sitting alone on the bench.
Seeing nothing new, Harry sighed and wanted to go somewhere else. His wife laughed and pointed to the ground, asking if that was a key. Harry walked over. “Yes” he said. He looked at it. The key was not very large and it had the number 164 on it. He took it to his wife.
Realizing that it wasn’t a car or door key, his wife proposed that they should take it to the police station on their way home. Harry nodded and put the key into his coat pocket.
When they passed through the railway station, where there were lockers with numbers on them, his wife suddenly understood what that key was. It was the key from one of those lockers. Someone put something in a locker, locked the door, took the key away and then lost it.
“I’m going to open the locker.” he told his wife. His wife immediately stopped him and told Harry that the things in the locker weren’t theirs. They couldn’t take them.
“I’m going to look at them, not take them.” said Harry without further thought. Ignoring his wife’s soft warning, Harry glanced around, opened the locker, and took out the small box inside.

【原文】
M: Good afternoon. I would like to tell you about Madame Tussaud’s Museum before taking you around. First, let me give you some information about the tickets. Well, our most popular ticket is £39. With that, you can also visit three more London’s most popular top attractions. The standard price that you have to pay when visiting four attractions is £55. Madame Tussaud’s has a long history. It was started by a lady who worked for the French king. She was an art teacher. Here you can see life-sized figures of the most famous people in the world, like David Beckham, the footballer, or the Queen of England. Madame Tussaud’s is not only in London. The second Madame Tussaud’s opened in Amsterdam in 1992, and now there are museums in Las Vegas, Hollywood, New York. In 2008, the fourth American Madame Tussaud’s opened in Washington. After you visit, you can buy some gifts from the museum shop, and if anybody is hungry, there is a cafe and some great eating places in Baker Street. The museum is open seven days a week and you can see the times in the guidebook of the museum, which I will give you in a minute.

An Encounter with Chinese Calligraphy
Last month, I participated in a school workshop on Chinese calligraphy. Under the guidance of a master, I learned to hold the brush correctly and practiced basic strokes on rice paper. At first, my strokes were messy, but I followed the teacher’s guidance patiently. After repeated practice, I successfully wrote the character “Fu” (blessing) neatly.
This experience made me appreciate the elegance of calligraphy. It helped me see Chinese calligraphy carries timeless values, like focus and harmony, which still matter today. I came to understand that traditional arts are precious treasures that we should inherit and carry forward.

67.范文
Just then, he saw the little girl in red coming over. The girl looked worried and kept looking around nervously. She soon noticed the key in Harry’s hand and the open locker. She hesitated for a moment and walked up quietly, saying in a low voice that she had accidentally lost her locker key with the number 164. Inside the box were her precious birthday gifts from her parents, and she was almost in tears with anxiety. Harry felt a little ashamed for his curiosity and regretted ignoring his wife’s warning.
Harry and his wife decided to help the little girl. They listened patiently to the girl’s story and comforted her gently. Harry carefully put the small box back into the locker and locked it again.
