Zhang Tian graduated from university and got a teacher’s certificate last year. His parents wanted him to get a good job in Shanghai. But he was inspired by the idea of living independently away from home. So he applied for and became a volunteer teacher in a village school. Bringing with him lots of books, clothes, and two pairs of trainers, Zhang Tian travelled to the village with an eager heart. He imagined all sorts of exciting things about living and teaching in a village.
However, not everything lived up to Zhang Tian’s hopes. The school was much smaller than he expected, with only three classrooms. In front of the classrooms, there was a playground which got dusty on windy days and muddy on rainy days. Living in the village was also more challenging than he had thought. The power and water supplies were unstable, so he could only shower every three or four days, and he had to learn how to cook. The thought of leaving once flashed through his mind, but he quickly gave up the idea and found ways to deal with the challenges.
The school had just three teachers and Zhang Tian was the only English teacher. The other two local teachers were responsible for maths and Chinese. To make school life healthier and livelier for his students, Zhang Tian introduced more subjects to the school — music, art and PE. It is not surprising that PE is the kids’ favourite subject! Their school lives are now more attractive and interesting, and they enjoy playing football in the playground, as well as singing songs they’ve learnt. The school is now full of laughter and music. Zhang Tian is planning to organise the first ever school concert! Everyone is very excited.
24. Why did Zhang Tian choose to be a volunteer teacher?
A. He wanted to live independently.
B. His parents wanted him to be a teacher.
C. He wanted a new lifestyle and was inspired by teachers he met.
D. He needed the experience to get a teacher’s certificate.
25. What was quite out of his expectation after his arrival?
A. PE was the kids’ favourite subject.
B. Students were short of books and desks.
C. The school even didn’t have a playground.
D. Living conditions were worse than he had expected.
26. What did Zhang Tian do to improve students’ school life?
A. He built a new playground for the students.
B. He introduced more subjects such as music, art and PE.
C. He donated a large number of new computers to the school.
D. He helped the school fix the power and water supplies.
27. Which of the following best describes Zhang Tian’s life?
A. Tough but meaningful. B. Dull but interesting.
C. Easy and comfortable. D. Lonely and hopeless.

Researchers have studied changes to mealtimes(吃饭时间) in older adults. They found that people experience gradual shifts (改变) as they age (变老), and these changes may show important information about their health.
Lead researcher Hassan Dashti suggested that mealtime changes, especially in breakfast, can be a simple sign of a person’s health. He said that doctors and patients should use changes in mealtime routines as early warnings of hidden (隐藏的) physical or mental problems. He also noted that keeping a regular (有规律的) eating schedule may support healthy aging and longer life.
To explore this idea, the team studied 2,945 adults in the UK, aged 42 to 94, who were followed for more than 20 years. They collected health data and blood samples (样本) to see how the mealtime might relate to health problems. They found that as older adults age, they tend to eat meals especially breakfast and dinner later during the day, while also narrowing the overall time window in which they eat each day.
Later breakfast times were strongly related to some health problems such as extreme sadness, low energy, poor sleep, and trouble preparing meals. People who ate later were also more likely to have oral health problems. Most importantly, later breakfast was connected with a higher risk of death. The researchers also found that people who were naturally “night owls” (preferring later sleep and wake times) tended to eat meals at later times.
“Up until now, we have had a limited (有限的) insight into how the mealtime develops later in life and how this change relates to overall health and longevity,” said Dashti. “Our findings help fill that gap by showing that later mealtimes, especially a later breakfast, are tied to both health challenges and increased death risk in older adults. These results add new meaning to the saying that ‘breakfast is the most important meal of the day’, especially for older adults.”
28. What did Dashti suggest about mealtime changes?
A. They usually have no clear reasons. B. They depend mainly on sleeping habits.
C. They can show signs of a person’s health. D. They are common among young people.
29. What did the researchers find about older adults according to Paragraph 3?
A. They have more food each day. B. They miss breakfast more often.
C. They take longer time over meals. D. They eat meals later during the day.
30. What can be inferred about people who eat breakfast late?
A. They tend to live longer lives. B. They usually feel more energetic.
C. They are less likely to stay up. D. They may face some health problems.
31. Which word can best describe the results of the study?
A. Disappointing. B. Uncertain. C. Helpful. D. Unexpected.
D
Researchers at Rutgers University-New Brunswick have developed an AI tool that will help predict the habitats of endangered whales, guiding ships along the Atlantic coast to avoid them. The tool is designed to prevent deadly accidents and inform conservation strategies and responsible ocean development.
The AI program analyzes patterns from two large databases, improving the ability to monitor the distribution of endangered marine (海洋的) species like the North Atlantic right whale. The marine sciences professors, Ahmed Ezzat and Josh Kohut, likened the output to what might be learned by tracking people’s movements in a house and determining whether there is food in the kitchen. Such factors might evaluate why people are where they are at certain times of the day. Detecting certain patterns conveys predictive power. “With this program, we’re correlating the position of a whale in the ocean with environmental conditions,” Kohut said. “This allows us to predict whale locations with higher probability, enabling us to carry out effective protection strategies.”
Unlike typical computer programs, where instructions are written out, this new machine learning program analyzed large data sets to discover patterns and relationships. As the AI program encountered more data, it adjusted its internal model to make better predictions or classifications. “The outcome of the machine-learning model is a prediction of where you may encounter a marine mammal (哺乳动物),” Ezzat said, describing what he characterized as a “probability map”.
Initially, the researchers sought to develop high-resolution models of the North Atlantic right whale presence to support responsible offshore wind farm development and operation. However, Ezzat noted that these tools could benefit various industries in the blue economy, such as fishing and shipping. “This approach can support a wise and environmentally responsible use of these waters,”Ezzat said.
“For decades, we’ve had whale location data and environmental records, but AI finally connects them,” Kohut emphasized. “This demonstrates the power of employing AI methodologies to advance our ability to predict or estimate where these whales are. We can achieve our economic goals while minimizing harm to the environment.” This innovation safeguards whales and advances responsible ocean development — a critical step as climate pressures intensify.
32. What do we know about the AI tool?
A. It can predict whale locations.
B. It can avoid coastal pollution.
C. It can monitor the research progress.
D. It can prevent deadly marine diseases.
33. What does the underlined word “likened” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Owed. B. Compared. C. Applied. D. Submitted.
34. What can we learn from Kohut’s words in the last paragraph?
A. Whales boost blue economy.
B. Climate change harms whales.
C. AI is key to sustainable oceanic exploration.
D. Technological innovation takes constant efforts.
35. What is the author’s attitude toward the AI tool?
A. Positive. B. Dismissive. C. Conservative. D. Objective.

I loved music. Every day after work, I would put on my earphones and lose myself in songs. I had played the guitar for years, though I was no expert. It was simply my way to relax. So, when I moved into the new apartment, I brought my guitar and my love for music with me.
For the first few weeks, the apartment next door remained silent. I knew someone lived there, but I never saw the person. The door was always closed. Then, one quiet afternoon, while I was reading, I heard a sound. It was so faint that I held my breath to catch it. It was from a violin. The music was low and slow, each note seeming to carry a weight of years, like someone telling a sad, beautiful story without words. I put down my book and listened. The melody seemed to be filled with loneliness and memories, and I felt a strange ache in my heart.
The next day, I heard it again. This time, I felt a strong pull. I walked to his door and knocked softly. The music stopped. My heart beat faster. After a long moment, the door opened a little. An old man with silver hair looked at me. He said nothing. Feeling a bit awkward, I smiled and said, “Hello, I’m your neighbor. I heard you playing the violin. It was incredibly beautiful. I play the guitar a little bit, I just wanted to say hello.” He looked at me for a while, and then a smile appeared on his face.
He opened the door wider and invited me in. I stepped inside, noticing a worn armchair by the window and the smell of old books. His home was simple, filled with books and old photos. In the corner stood a music stand. Next to it was a small table with a photo of a woman, smiling gently. That first meeting was short, but it was the beginning of our friendship. As I turned to leave, he said softly, “Thank you for listening.” Those simple words warmed my heart. I knew we would become friends.

B. Uncertain. C. Helpful. D. Unexpected.
【答案】28. C 29. D 30. D 31. C

D. Objective.
【答案】32. A 33. B 34. C 35. A

Writing a poem is about observing the world within or around you. ____36____, from love to loss to the gate at the old farm. Writing poetry seems difficult. However, with the right approach, you can write a poem that you can be proud to share with others.
Pick a specific theme or idea. This can make it easier for you to narrow down what images and descriptions you are going to use in your poem. For example, you may decide to write a poem around the theme of love and friendship. ____37____.
Avoid cliché(陈词滥调). Your poetry will be much stronger if you avoid cliches, which are phrases that have become so familiar that they have lost their meaning. ____38____. By doing so, your reader is surprised and attracted by your writing. If you feel a certain phrase or image is too familiar to your reader, replace it with a more unique one.
____39____. Poetry is made to be read out loud. So you should write your poem with a focus on how it sounds on the page. Pay attention to the structure of your poem and your word choice. Get feedback(反馈) from others. You can also share your poem with other poets to get feedback from them and improve your poem. ____40____, where you discuss your poems with other poets and work on your poetry together.
C“A poem can be about anything(一首诗可以是关于任何事情的)”中含有“anything”,同时,在句意上讲述的是“诗歌主题”,与前文“Writing a poem is about observing the world within or around you.(写诗是关于观察你内心或周围的世界。)”在主题上衔接紧密。故选C项。
【37题详解】
根据前文“For example, you may decide to write a poem around the theme of love and friendship.(例如,你可能决定围绕爱情和友谊的主题写一首诗。)”提出了一个选题,这是写诗的第一步,由此推知,设空句应是接着讲述下一步。选项G“Then you may think about the moments where you experienced them(然后你可能会想起你经历过的那些时刻)”讲到了选题后的下一步,即对该选题经历的情景思考,同时,“Then”使得该句与前文构成顺序关系。故选G项。
【38题详解】
根据后文“By doing so, your reader is surprised and attracted by your writing.(这样做,你的读者会对你的写作感到惊讶和吸引。)”
根据后文“Poetry is made to be read out loud. So you should write your poem with a focus on how it sounds on the page.(诗歌是用来大声朗读的。所以你应该写你的诗,重点是它在页面上的发音。)”可知,该部分强调了诗歌是用来读给读者听的,即“为听而写”。选项A“Write for the ear(为耳朵而写)”贴合该部分主旨。故选A项。
【40题详解】
根据空后的非限制定语从句“where you discuss your poems with other poets and work on your poetry together(你和其他诗人讨论你的诗、一起创作你的诗的地方)”可推知,主句应是提到了一个可以集体讨论和创作的地方或组织,选项D“You may join a poetry writing group(你可以加入一个诗歌写作小组)”中讲到的“诗歌写作小组”符合分析,同时可以与后文“Or you may take a poetry writing class...(或者你可以参加一个诗歌写作班……)”构成并列选择关系。故选D项。

【答案】One possible version:
The Low-carbon Lifestyle Around Me
With climate change becoming a global challenge, low-carbon living has gained increasing importance. In my view, it means reducing carbon footprints through sustainable daily choices like using resources wisely and minimizing waste.
My family actively embraces this lifestyle. Since we switched to energy-saving bulbs, our electricity bill has dropped by 20%. Although my father used to drive to work, he now cycles or takes the metro. Meanwhile, my mother carries reusable bags for shopping so that plastic waste is reduced. As for me, I reuse water bottles and take shorter showers. Even small changes like these contribute to a greener planet.
If everyone adopts such habits, we can collectively make a significant environmental impact.

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
A few days later, I visited him again with my guitar.

From that day on, we began to spend time together.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
A few days later, I visited him again with my guitar. I knocked on his door, feeling a little nervous. When he opened it and saw the guitar, his eyes widened with interest. I asked if he would like to hear me play something. He nodded and gestured for me to sit down. I played a simple folk song I had learned years ago. When I finished, he clapped softly and said, “Your music is lovely.” Then, he went to his corner, picked up his violin, and played a short, sweet melody in return. It was his way of saying he accepted me. From that moment, our unspoken bond grew stronger.
From that day on, we began to spend time together. He told me he was a former violinist in the city orchestra. After his wife passed away, he moved here and rarely went out. Music was his only comfort. Sometimes, we would try to play together, the guitar and the violin finding a common tune. It wasn’t always perfect, but it was always joyful. We didn’t talk much. Our conversations were in the notes we played. We shared our sadness and our happiness through the music. He was no longer just my neighbor; he was my teacher and my friend.
