From bronze bowls to ceramic vases, and jade sculptures to ink wash paintings, our goal is to display the Chinese artistic genius from ancient times. The highlight of this exhibition is the painting Clearing After Snow on a Mountain Pass, one of the great works of Tang Yin (1470-1524) . Born during the Ming Dynasty, Tang sought and failed to gain entry into the civil service, so he turned to painting instead. In time, he gained recognition as one of the greatest artists China has ever known. This painting, showing high mountains, trees, and houses covered in snow, was made with extraordinary skill. Though it is over 500 years old, it looks as fresh and full of life as the day it was created. Also of primary note is a collection of nearly 100 bronze objects from the Shang Dynasty (1600 BCE-1046 BCE). While the artists who made these great works are not known, they showed great skill in creating these beautiful pieces. Some of the items on display are thought to have come from the collection of Emperor Qianlong (1711-1799) , a great admirer of Shang Dynasty bronze. Finally, we have many fine examples of Tang Dynasty (618-907) sculptures. Most of these are of Buddhist origin. Even though Buddhism entered China much earlier, it did not really begin to show expansion until the seventh century. During this same period, trade along the Silk Road also boomed. Chinese sculpture thus found itself highly influenced by Buddhist art brought from India and Central Asia through the Silk Road. These works were intended to spread Buddhism and they are of exceptional beauty and quality. Looking at the faces of the figures in these sculptures, one sees the faces of the past. History is brought to life. This is just a small taste of what is in store for you in this exhibition. We guarantee that“From Shang to Qing: Chinese Art Through the Ages” will transport you to another time with its amazing collection of works. “From Shang to Qing: Chinese Art Through the Ages” will run until November 25. Opening hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., from Tuesday to Sunday ( the museum is closed on Mondays). No one will be admitted into the exhibition after 4:30 p.m. Admission: $10 for adults; $8 for students; $5 for children under 12; free for children under 5. No photos or food and drink are allowed in the museum. 1. What is the main purpose of the exhibition? A. To introduce the history of Chinese dynasties from Shang to Qing. B. To show the artistic achievements of ancient China over 3,000 years. C. To promote the exchange of Chinese and Western art cultures. D. To collect donations for the Richfield Museum of Fine Art. 2. Which of the following is TRUE about the bronze objects on show? A. All of them were made by famous artists of the Shang Dynasty. B. They were all collected by Emperor Qianlong during his lifetime. C. They are a collection of nearly 100 bronze items from the Shang Dynasty. D. They are the most important exhibits in the whole exhibition. 3. If a couple with their 10-year-old child and 4-year-old baby visit the exhibition, how much should they pay in total? A. $28. B. $25. C. $23. D. $20. B American musician Mark Levine’s journey with China began 21 years ago as an English teacher. Levine didn’t realize at the time that he would soon come to fall in love with the country. What started as a career-oriented move turned into a profound personal connection, leading him to call China his long-term home. Levine found his unique voice by documenting his experiences through music. To date, he has composed over 80 songs inspired by China, with themes ranging from the lives of migrant workers to the country’s vast natural landscapes. His musical partnership with Chinese artist Fu Han in their duo (二重唱) “In Side Out” symbolizes the interweaving of Eastern and Western cultures, much like the two sides of a single piece of clothing. Living through China’s rapid development provided Levine with firsthand material. Observing the shared sense of responsibility among Chinese people, he was inspired to write the song “Together we must take a stand”, capturing the spirit of unity he witnessed. He has described feeling safer in China than anywhere else. Believing that many international perceptions of China are incomplete or inaccurate, Levine took to writing. His 2014 book, Stories from My Chinese Journey, offers a ground-level view of daily life and culture. He often builds his narratives from real conversations, aiming to let China speak for itself. This effort to bridge the understanding gap, presenting a China defined by the friendliness of its people and the energy of its progress, was recognized with the distinguished Chinese Government Friendship Award in 2014. Having traveled to 29 provinces, Levine is most struck by the warmth and diversity of the people. When asked about his future, his answer is heartfelt and definitive: China is his home. Through teaching, music, and writing, he continues to build cultural bridges, sharing the stories of the country he has grown to love. 4. How did Mark Levine’s relationship with China change over time? A. It evolved into a deep emotional bond. B. It fully met his initial expectations. C. It ended after he finished teaching. D. It remained strictly professional. 5. Why does the author use the comparison “like the two sides of a single piece of clothing” when describing the duo? A. To argue for the superiority of one culture over the other. B. To contrast the distinct characteristics of the two cultures. C. To highlight the challenges of cross - cultural communication. D. To visualize the inseparable unity formed by the cultural integration. 6. What is the main reason for Levine’s receiving the Chinese Government Friendship Award? A. His popular music about China. B. His long - term English teaching. C. His work promoting a truer image of China. D. His reporting on the daily lives of Chinese people. 7. Which of the following best describes Levine’s role as described in the text? A. A journalist reporting on China’s social issues. B. A historian documenting China’s ancient wonders. C. An English teacher who occasionally writes songs. D. A cross - cultural communicator through music and writing. C A Midsummer Night’s Dream may be one of Shakespeare’s most performed plays—but its latest version from the Royal Shakespeare Company will be unlike any seen before. Titled Dream, the 50-minute online production will let audiences remotely guide the leading character Puck through a virtual forest. In 2016, the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of The Tempest used high-tech to create a 3D digital image that was projected above the stage. The difference this time is that everything in the play—the performers and their surroundings—will be shown virtually. Seven actors will perform in a specially-built studio. They will be surrounded by a 360-degree camera set, made up of 47 cameras with every movement almost immediately presented digitally, which is presented to viewers online. With its much-reduced characters, Dream is not a complete production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, rather, it is a story inspired by it, focusing on Puck and the fairies (精灵). Up to 2,000 audience members for each performance can become part of the show and will be invited to guide Puck through the forest. On screen, the chosen audience will appear as a cloud of tiny fireflies (萤火虫). By using their mouse or finger on the screen of a smart device, they will be able to move their firefly across the screen, and Puck will be at their beck and call to go through the virtual space. For viewers watching at home, the virtual fairies moving through a digital forest will look more like a video game than the average Royal Shakespeare Company show. “Without the fireflies—the audiences—Puck wouldn’t be going anywhere,” said E.M. Williams who plays the role. “The audiences are very much the fuel and the energy of the show.” 8. What makes Dream different from The Tempest? A. The number of actors and actresses. B. The surroundings around the performers C. The 3D digital image it chooses to show. D. The way it presents everything in the play. 9. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. Leading characters of the play. B. Audiences’ opinions on the play. C. The play’s production process. D. The inspiration for the play. 10. What does the underlined part “be at their beck and call” in Paragraph 4 probably mean? A. Be ready to follow their order. B. Be happy to receive a call. C. Be difficult to control. D. Be willing to guide them. 11. What do E. M. Williams’ words in the last paragraph show? A. The cost of the show. B. The pleasure of the audiences. C. The task of the leading character. D. The importance of the audiences. D Personalized recommendation algorithms (算法) analyze data to tailor content for each user. Existing research focuses on their influence regarding familiar topics, such as politics or social issues. However, a study by Giwon Bahg at The Ohio State University found that when algorithms selected information for a learning task, participants with no prior knowledge on the topic tended to focus on only a small portion of the material. They often answered test questions incorrectly but expressed high confidence. Thus, the research shows personalized recommendation algorithms may prevent people’s learning. Co-author Brandon Turner noted that people tended to draw broad, unfounded conclusions from the limited information provided by algorithms. This research reveals that algorithms can build prejudices immediately even when learners know nothing about a topic, leading to a distorted view of reality. “People miss key information when they follow an algorithm, yet they mistakenly believe what they know applies to other features and environments they’ve never encountered,” Turner said. An example illustrates how recommendation algorithms can be biased A viewer new to a country’s films may choose an action-thriller from the streaming service’s top list. The algorithm then promotes more of the same type, making the viewer overlook strong films in other categories and form inaccurate, overly broad assumptions about the country’s culture or society. To avoid the effect of prior knowledge, Bahg’s team tested 346 online participants with a fictional task: learning to identify crystal-like aliens, each with six distinct features. For instance, a square component could be dark black or pale gray. Participants either viewed all features or were guided by an algorithm that led them to repeat the same features. The algorithm group viewed fewer features selectively, frequently sorted new aliens incorrectly, and were even more confident when wrong than when correct. These findings carry real-world significance. Turner questioned, “What will happen to young kids who are genuinely trying to learn about the world through online platforms where algorithms prioritize content consumption over comprehensive learning?” Consuming similar content conflicts with effective learning, posing problems for both users and society. 12. How is the new research different from existing ones on personalized algorithms? A. It highlights the confidence-accuracy gap among users. B. It examines their effect on learning unfamiliar topics. C. It studies the technical design of the algorithms. D. It focuses on information selecting process. 13. What does the underlined word “distorted” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Incomplete. B. Oversimplified. C. Misleading. D. Impractical. 14. How did the researchers conduct the experiment to prove the algorithm’s impact? A. They compared the results of participants with and without prior knowledge. B. They used a fictional learning task to separate the effect of algorithms. C. They asked participants to choose their preferred content freely. D. They analyzed practical data from streaming platforms. 15. What is Professor Turner’s main concern expressed in his question? A. The negative impact of algorithms on children’s worldview. B. Online platform’s capacity for constant content renewal. C. Children’s growing dependence on digital learning. D. Measures needed to reduce children’s screen time. Your mental health influences how you think, feel, and behave in daily life. My heart sank as I heard a slight meow from an abandoned cat carrier by the door. I opened it and took the cat in my arms. Immediately, she buried her face into my arms, her skinny body shaking, but she didn’t escape as if she knew I was there to help. The doctor estimated her age to be about six. Although weak and underweight, she could return to normal with care. Unfortunately, she tested positive for feline leukemia(猫白血病), which is infectious with only a bite, without cure. Though infected cats can also live normal, happy lives, the doctor regretfully announced she was “unfit for groups”. The only choice was for a volunteer to adopt her. Already having four cats, I had determined not to put them through the stress of learning to live with a new member. Plus, I had agreed with my husband that we had reached the animal limit. Nevertheless, I took her home anyway and quarantined(隔离) her in a spare room. The first few nights were difficult. I spent as much time as I could with her. Gradually, she seemed to accept her fate and waited every morning for me. Her appetite returned and soon she looked quite health y again. Before long, this cat began walking around the room as if she owned it — like a little princess, so “Princess” she was named. Nine long months passed. While I tried to find her a home where she could be the only cat, it was fruitless and we finally accepted her presence. Summer arrived. Every year, one shelter volunteer hosts a party. It was my turn that year. About thirty volunteers and their guests enjoyed barbecuing and sharing animal stories. Everyone wanted to see “the cat in the room”, so Princess received more than her share of attention. Jody, the Sunday morning volunteer, arrived and introduced her fiancé, Eric. We chatted for a while. Eric mentioned he once lost a cat named Queen, and was also quite interested in Princess. I was totally unprepared for what happened next. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ It turned out that Princess — I mean Queen — was lost when Eric was moving here. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025-2026学年第二学期学科素养大赛 高二英语测试卷 (考试时间:120分钟;考试满分:150分) 考生注意: 1. 1. 4. A 5. D 6. C 7. 8. D 9. C 10. A 11. They will be surrounded by a 360-degree camera set, made up of 47 cameras with every movement almost immediately presented digitally, which is presented to viewers online. 第三段第一句提到“Up to 2,000 audience members for each performance can become part of the show and will be invited to guide Puck through the forest. On screen, the chosen audience will appear as a cloud of tiny fireflies . A项Be ready to follow their order.(准备好听从他们的命令。) D Personalized recommendation algorithms (算法) analyze data to tailor content for each user. 12. B 13. C 14. B 15. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】I was totally unprepared for what happened next. Princess walked to him as usual, but there was obviously something special about Eric. With affection, she looked up at him, rubbed against his leg, and refused to leave him. Lifting her up, Eric said “This is my cat”, his voice trembling with excitement. Feeling totally at a loss, I was speechless for a long while. Noticing my confusion and the awkward silence, Eric began to explain his remark to me patiently. It felt like a century to me before I finally grasped what he said. It turned out that Princess — I mean Queen — was lost when Eric was moving here. Raised strictly indoors due to the virus, the cat was so frightened when taken out that she ran away. Of course, Eric was heartbroken and tried every means to find her, but all in vain. It was like the cat just disappeared into thin air. Gradually, Eric accepted the reality, so he was completely unprepared for the reunion that day. The next day, Eric took Queen away. I almost cried. Looking back, I waited almost a year for a miracle to happen, but it was worth the effort. 词汇激活 行为类 ①解释:explain/elaborate ②理解:grasp/understand/make out ③消失:disappear/vanish 情绪类 ①激动地:with excitement/in high spirits ②害怕的:frightened /scared 【点睛】[高分句型 1].
