Passage 1:
Surprised, he stopped playing and listened, and there was silence. He frowned, wondering if he had just imagined it. But then, the soft music of a ukulele came again, hesitantly copying his melody. He walked over to the window and looked out. There, on the steps outside his shop sat a girl, her fingers nervously plucking the strings of a ukulele. It was the same girl from three years ago. She looked up, her eyes wide with surprise and a hint of fear. He waved at her, and she smiled nervously in return. He could see that she had grown taller, but her love for music remained the same.
“Come inside and I’ll teach you to play it the way it is meant to be played,” he said to the girl. She hesitated for a moment, then stood up and walked inside. The shopkeeper led her to a small practice area and showed her how to hold the ukulele properly. He guided her through the basic chords, and she quickly caught on. Her passion for music was evident in every note she played. As they played together, he realized that his small act of kindness had not only sold a ukulele but also sparked a lifelong love for music in this young girl.
Passage 2:
One day, Jack told Ben of a reading aloud contest in the community. “It’s an opportunity for the kids to shine,” Jack said. Ben immediately thought of Harry, who had built up his confidence but still shrank from presenting in public. Ben went to find Harry and told him about the contest. Harry lowered his head, his cheeks flushing. “What if I mess up?” Harry murmured. Ben patted him on the shoulder, encouraging him, “Remember how you first started? This is just another step.” Harry nodded, agreeing to give it a shot. For days, Ben set aside time to coach Harry on reading with expression and rhythm. Jack also shared tips on adding emotions to reading. Gradually, Harry’s voice sounded rhythmic and energetic.
When the big day came, Jack and Ben accompanied Harry to the contest hall. At the sight of the large audience, Harry froze. But the moment he met Ben’s and Jack’s warm smiles and thumbs-up gestures, he calmed down and walked onto the stage. His voice was steady at first, and then grew increasingly passionate. When he reached the final lines, the hall erupted into applause. Harry won second prize! Holding the certificate, he flashed a bright smile at Ben and Jack. From then on, more kids came to Ben’s reading corner. Ben and Jack felt content that their small corner was making a big difference in the children’s lives.
Passage 3:
I was hesitant at first, but I decided to give it a try. Accompanied by Cindy, I spent the weekend working as a volunteer there. We organized games to interact with the left-behind children and the experience was heart-warming when I saw their initial shyness gradually transformed into smiles and laughter. We also helped clean the rooms of elderly people in a nursing house, chatted with them, and listened to their stories. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and love. For the first time in months, I forgot about work and gained a sense of authentic pleasure in life.
After that memorable day, I decided to make a change to my life. I still work hard on my business, but I also reserve time for those simple pleasures. I sign up for volunteer activities, finding joy in the smiles of those less fortunate. I have heart-to-heart conversations with my family over delicious home-cooked meals and visit bookstores where I lose myself in the wisdom of written words. With this new routine, my health gradually improves and I rediscover the path to true well-being. I am ready to embrace a new chapter, one that includes both ambition and the joy of living.

Passage 1:
Jack decided to help me make more friends. He introduced me to his classmates during lunch breaks and encouraged me to join group activities. At first, I hesitated, but Jack’s unwavering support gave me courage. Slowly, I began participating in conversations and even shared my thoughts. To my surprise, many classmates responded warmly, and I realized they weren’t as distant as I had imagined. Jack’s kindness not only brought me companionship but also taught me the power of reaching out.
With more friends around me, I smiled a lot and started to spread the warmth. Inspired by Jack’s simple yet profound gesture, I began smiling at others who seemed lonely. One day, a shy girl thanked me for my smile, saying it made her feel welcome. At that moment, I understood how a small act could brighten someone’s day. Just as Jack had lit up my world, I now hoped to pass on that light, one smile at a time.
Passage 2:
Hearing her words, I suddenly had an idea. I took out my phone and snapped a few pictures of my basement — the dusty floor, the old chair, even the corner where the spiders lived. I printed one and taped it to my sax. Every day until the performance, I practiced in front of the photo. Slowly, the fear that once choked me began to loosen its grip. Jill came every evening to listen and cheer me on. Her presence made me believe that maybe, just maybe, I could do this. I told myself the school hall would be just another room, and the audience — just another group of spiders.
When Ms. Reed signaled to me, I stood up with a photo taped on my sax. My heart was pounding, but I took a deep breath and stepped onto the stage. The hall was full, and the Youth Symphony’s director sat in the front row. I looked down at the photo on my sax and smiled slightly. Then I began to play “Summertime.” The notes flowed smoothly, just like in my basement. As I played, I forgot the crowd, forgot Kelly, and even forgot myself. The music carried me away. When I finished, silence filled the hall for a second — then loud applause. I did it.
Passage 3:
In the months that followed, I came to know this “new” family. We exchanged countless emails and photos, each message deepening our connection. Bobbie sent me old family pictures, including one of our grandfather I’d never seen before, his eyes twinkling with a familiar warmth. We talked about our mothers’ shared love for gardening, a characteristic that skipped a generation in me but bloomed in my daughter. Every online conversation got us closer, and finally we had a reunion.
I will never forget the first family reunion. We gathered at Bobbie’s cozy home, surrounded by autumn leaves and laughter. As I hugged David, my mother’s long-lost brother, tears streamed down our faces. Jamie, Jonah’s DNA match, gave me a painting she’d created, its colors mirroring the joy in the room. We shared stories late into the night, our voices combining like a song. At that moment, I felt my mother’s spirit beside us, her silent approval filling the air. The hole in my heart, left by years of uncertainty, was finally filled with the warmth of family.

Passage 1:
As time passed, Leah’s drawing skills improved. She started creating works full of details: a watercolor painting of the garden behind her house with butterflies dancing among flowers, and a sketch of Ms. White smiling while holding a paintbrush. Her colors became more vivid, and her lines more confident. One day, Ms. White displayed her painting of a cozy evening at home in the school lobby. When Leah heard students say “This is so warm”, she felt a surge of happiness. “Your art connects with people,” Ms. White said, and Leah knew drawing had filled her loneliness with joy.
When Leah went to middle school, Ms. White was no longer with her daily. But she carried a sketchbook everywhere, drawing new classmates and the school’s cherry blossom trees. Every month, she visited Ms. White, who would praise her new works, “You’re still painting with your heart.” Once, Leah worried she might lose interest, but Ms. White said, “Art is a friend that grows with you.” Leah nodded, keeping those words in mind as she kept drawing.
Passage 2:
The students began to put their ideas into action in no time. Drives were conducted: trash was collected in bags, native plants were planted to attract butterflies and birds back to the park. Awareness programmes were organised to guide the public about how all were responsible for building a safer and healthier environment. But it didn’t take long for the students to realise that their steps to keep the park clean and green were not being very effective as visitors continued to litter without a care for the environment. The students were discouraged.
But everyone regained confidence in taking smaller steps with teachers’ encouragement. The kids continued to look for the ways to conserve the environment. They worked tirelessly, alongside their teachers to revive not only these places, but also to create a lasting impact on the surrounding areas. The natural beauty of the riverside finally seemed to be revived and the garden soon became a symbol of the students’ dedication to green living. They had done it— together, they had made a difference. And this was just the beginning.
Passage 3:
A few hours later, Dave came to himself, quickly realizing he was in the hospital. The white walls and the smell of medicine surrounded him, and a nurse explained that he had been brought in by an old man. Just then, the old man walked into the room, with his face showing relief. Dave remembered helping him with a flat tire on the road, but now felt confused about how he ended up here. The old man explained that after Dave left, he saw him collapse by his truck and immediately called for an ambulance.
“You had a heart attack,” said the old man, “and I actually am a heart doctor.” Dave was shocked to hear this. The old man continued that when he found Dave unconscious, his medical training kicked in. He performed first aid and kept Dave stable until the ambulance arrived. “Your kindness in stopping to help me might have saved your own life,” the old man said. Dave felt a rush of gratitude. It was then that he realized that small acts of help can create unexpected connections and make a big difference in others’ lives.

Passage 1:
From that day on, my life changed a bit. I began to slow down and notice the little things that brought me joy. Instead of rushing through each day buried in stress, I made time to walk through the garden, admire blooming flowers, or simply sit quietly with Mr Jensen. Our conversations became more frequent and deeper, and I found peace in his calm presence. The act of gardening taught me patience, care, and the importance of appreciating beauty even during difficult times. As seasons passed, I grew not only as a student but also as a person who learned to balance hard work with moments of stillness and gratitude.
“Mr Jensen, I got my college acceptance letter!” I said excitedly. He smiled warmly and gave me a gentle pat on the back. “I always knew you could do it,” he said. Then, without a word, he walked into his garden and picked a single red rose. Handing it to me, he said, “This is for you — a symbol of growth, strength, and beauty.” I held it close, feeling a deep sense of gratitude. That rose reminded me of where I started and how far I had come. Though I would soon leave for college, I knew that Mr Jensen’s lessons — and the roses — would always stay with me.
Passage 2:
After a bit of hesitation, I finally agreed to join. Alice, Chris, and Ryan were welcoming, and we dove into the project. As we brainstormed, I felt more confident. Initially, I was hesitant to speak up, but Alice’s encouragement helped me push through. I suggested ideas for the mind map, including how to organize the sections. The others liked my suggestions, and I realized I had more to contribute. By the end, we had a solid plan, and I felt proud. When our teacher announced we would present, Alice turned to me and said, “You should present with me. You’ve done great work.” Despite my nervousness, I agreed, knowing with Alice by my side, I could manage the presentation.
The next class, Alice and I presented our group’s mind map to the class. As she confidently explained how we had organized our ideas, I felt a mix of nervousness and excitement. When it was my turn, I took a deep breath and began explaining the sections I had worked on, focusing on using a timeline to connect the events in the travel journal. Alice highlighted my contributions, emphasizing that the creative idea was mine. The class nodded in approval, and our teacher smiled, offering positive feedback. Hearing the praise, I felt a rush of pride and relief. It wasn’t just about the project — it was about stepping out of my comfort zone and realizing I had something valuable to offer, something I had never fully recognized before.
Passage 3:
As the writer’s car disappeared into the distance, Jenny held the book tightly. From that day, she grew more dedicated to reading and writing, with Lindsey’s words echoing in her mind. She woke at dawn to write in her notebook, attended writing workshops at the library, and even submitted stories to youth magazines. At Story Haven, she began guiding younger kids, showing them how to find stories in everyday moments — the way sunlight touched a broom, or the laughter of a café visitor. “Stories heal, ” she’d tell them, “just like they healed me. ”
Months later, Jenny called Lindsey excitedly, “I have good news to share with you. ” She told Lindsey that her first story was published in Children’s Tales Monthly, which was about a girl and her broom that discovered strength in storytelling. “Congratulations! I’m so proud of you! ” responded Lindsey, promising to offer any possible guidance. The publication and Lindsey’s encouragement inspired Jenny to dream bigger. She made up her mind to become a writer who could uplift others just as Lindsey did. Sitting at her desk in the café, with sunlight shining on her latest draft, Jenny realized something important: hardships are not the end — they are the beginning of new stories, filled with hope.

Passage 1
(24-25高一下·辽宁·期末)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The first time the shopkeeper of the musical instruments saw her, she couldn’t have been more than nine years old. She was shy, standing outside his shop, half-hidden beside the door.
She spent ten minutes outside the door, building up her courage, then grasped the door handle and slipped into the shop. She timidly (腼腆地) approached the shopkeeper. Her eyes wandered around, attracted by the wonderful variety of instruments. “I want to buy a ukulele (四弦吉他),” she said, almost in a whisper. “Certainly,” replied the shopkeeper warmly, hoping to put her at ease. He led his customer to the section where the ukuleles were displayed. Surveying the selection of wooden instruments mounted on the wall, he remembered the sense of satisfaction he’d had in creating each one.
“I have several models available. Beginner models start at 30 dollars. They’re not top quality, but they’re easier to get a sound out if you’ve never played before. Mid-range instruments are between eighty and a hundred dollars, with a higher quality,” he said. Her dark eyes were open wide, staring at the instruments in wonder. “I only have 25 dollars,” she said softly. He felt a sense of pity. “Well,” he said, “I have good news for you. First-time customers get a thirty percent discount.” A spark flashed to life in her eyes, and she looked at him with hope. He took down the ukulele and handed it to her. “So you can have this one for twenty-one.” Her hands closed around the instrument like it was the most precious thing she’d ever held. She handed him the money and rushed out of the shop, as if she were afraid he would change his mind.
It was a warm summer afternoon, three years later, when he took out his ukulele to practice. His window was open to the fresh night breeze. Making instruments was how he made his living, and playing them was his favorite. As his body moved with the music he played, he created a story in the air. But it was a long time before he realized he had an echo (回声), and seemingly someone was copying him.

In a poverty-stricken community of Yazoo, Ben had his life journey shaped by an old barber called Jack. As a poor boy, Ben was among those who benefited from Jack’s special offer. Every time he got a free haircut, the barber would encourage him to read storybooks, opening up a world of knowledge and imagination he had never known before.
As Ben grew up, Jack grew old, unable to do his usual job. Ben decided to take over Jack’s shop. Guided by Jack, Ben mastered the skill of cutting hair and became a popular barber in the neighborhood. He continued the tradition of providing free haircuts for poor children.
Soon Ben found that, accustomed to hanging about to kill time and having little access to books, many kids around had weak literacy. When he asked about what they learned, he would receive short and broken responses. Among them was a shy boy named Harry, his father dead and mother often ill in bed.
Determined to encourage the children to read for their future, Ben turned to Jack for advice. His idea was supported by Jack, who helped him set up a reading section in the corner of the shop. Ben filled it with all kinds of books he bought.
When Harry came for a haircut, Ben said smilingly, “Harry, there are some great storybooks waiting for you. Why not pick one to read?” Harry looked up, his eyes wide with surprise. Ben led him to the book shelves and helped him choose a book about a young hero who overcame great odds.
Harry became a regular in the reading room. He would sit in the corner, completely absorbed in a book, his lips moving slightly as he read silently. Ben noticed Harry was initially hesitant to read aloud due to his poor pronunciation. Whenever Harry mispronounced a word, Ben would assure him, “It’s okay, Harry. Try that again. You’re doing great.” With Ben’s continuous help, Harry’s reading skills gradually improved.

At the age of 30, I resigned to start my own business. I felt like I was on the right path. I was busy making plans happen. For months, I kept myself moving. Even when I wasn’t working, I was thinking about work. There was never enough time, and I was afraid that if I stopped to relax, I might let someone down. But the more I worked, the less I seemed to get done.
When I started to feel really tired, I told myself I just needed to work harder and get more organized. But something was wrong. I was very tired and my body hurt all over. My smart watch kept buzzing (嗡嗡声), telling me my heart was beating too fast. I had tried hard to be healthy — I stopped drinking, changed my diet, and lost weight. I thought things would get better, but they didn’t.
Finally, I went to a doctor. “How’s your stress?” the doctor asked. I didn’t think I was very stressed, but tests showed I had a disease called Graves’ disease, which can get worse because of stress.
The next day, I ran into an old friend, Cindy. We hadn’t seen each other for a while, and Cindy looked at me with concern. “You look tired. I don’t know how you are doing, but you seems to be wearing out.”
“Things have been a bit crazy lately,” I admitted.
“Maybe it’s time to take a break,” Cindy suggested. As we said goodbye, she added, “It was good to see you. You’ve lost weight; make sure you take care of yourself.” She waved and left.
Reflecting on my previous behavior, I realized I had been missing the simple pleasures in life — the little but meaningful things that help me relax and recharge, like bonding with my family, engaging in community activities to help those in need, interacting with friends and visiting my favorite bookstore.
Days later, Cindy called and asked, “There’s a charity event dedicated to helping the left-behind children and elderly people who live alone in our community this weekend. Would you like to go with me and offer your help?”

When I was 13 years old, a boy gave me a gift that changed my life. It was a simple smile.
It was early autumn, my first year of junior high school, and my old school was far away. As a result, I felt like no one knew who I was. I was very lonely and afraid to make friends with anyone. Every time I heard other students talking and laughing, I felt heartbroken. I couldn’t talk to anyone about my problems, and I didn’t want my parents to worry about me.
One day, as my classmates chatted happily with their friends, I sat at my desk, feeling a bit left out as usual. Just then, a boy I didn’t know entered the classroom. He walked past me and then turned around. He looked at me and smiled without any word. Suddenly, I felt a light and friendly touch. It made me feel happy, full of vitality and warmth.
That smile was a turning point for me. I started to talk to that boy named Jack, and gradually, he became my first and best friend in the new school. I found myself relying on him for companionship and comfort, as he was the only one who had shown me kindness.

The band room rang with Ms. Reed’s sharp voice. “Kevin, the soloist (独奏演员) broke his arm. You’ll do the solo in the school hall that day.” My throat tightened. I stared at her for a while. The band director was looking right at me. So was everyone else. Saying no to Ms. Reed was like trying to stop an avalanche (雪崩). “OK!” I said unwillingly, trying to hide my hopelessness. In fact, stage fright wasn’t just a fear; it was a storm I couldn’t escape.
Kelly, the violin star, passed me and made fun of me. “You’ve never done a solo, right? Don’t mess up! By the way, the Youth Symphony’s (青年交响乐团的) director is coming. I’m sure he’ll love your nerves.” Her words felt like a knife, I’d dreamed of playing in the Youth Symphony for a long time. However, I could only play great in the basement (地下室) of my home. It’s comfortable down there — just me, my sax (萨克斯), my music stand and a couple of spiders(蜘蛛) as my audience. I like to practice at night, and no one can hear me in the basement.
When I got home, I began to think about the performance piece. I grabbed a sheet of music, “Summertime.” I spent hours practicing and perfecting it. But doubt washed over me. “What if I freeze?” I was in low spirits for several days.
“You’re not alone,” Jill, my best friend, said in a low voice one day after school and came along with me to my basement. “Imagine the crowd is a group of spiders (蜘蛛),” she suggested. Her thought felt funny, but her support relieved my anxiety a little. “It’s no use. I just felt comfortable here,” I replied. “If I could do my solo here, it’d be no problem.” “Why can’t the school hall feel like your basement?” Jill shouted excitedly. “Will it work if you see a photo of your basement?”

When Ms. Reed signaled to me, I stood up with a photo taped on my sax.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
I did it.

The question had been weighing on my mind for years. One quiet afternoon when Mother was seventy-eight, I finally gathered the courage to ask, “Did you ever know your half-sisters and brothers?”
She looked up from the photos in her lap, her fingers pausing over a discolored picture. “Three sisters and one brother,” she said softly. “I hired a detective (侦探) once... found them... but never contacted them.” Her voice dropped to a whisper. “They likely didn’t know I existed.”
I reached for her hand, sensing the decades of hesitation. Though she rarely spoke of her childhood, I knew some of it-her mother’s early death, being raised by unwilling relatives, the father who disappeared from her life. Yet despite this, she had built a beautiful existence-marrying my kind-hearted father, becoming an successful artist, and creating the warm home she’d never had.
When she passed away at ninety-one, I often wondered about those unknown relatives. Would searching for them betray her memory? Then, eighteen months later, a miracle occurred. A distant cousin researching our family tree contacted me with astonishing news. “Your mother’s siblings have been looking for her too,” he said, sharing their contact information. The timing seemed fateful, especially when my son Jonah revealed his own coincidence-a DNA match on Ancestry.com with a woman named Jamie.
“Grandma’s birth name was Johnson,” I reminded Jonah. When he entered it into the chat, the response came within hours: “We’ve been searching for Mary Johnson since 1978!”
That evening, I found myself on a three-way call with Bobbie, my mother’s youngest half-sister. Hearing her emotional voice-so similar to Mom’s-my hands trembled. “We looked for her,” Bobbie wept. “After Dad died, my brother David placed newspaper ads, even went on radio shows.”
As I shared stories of my mother’s life-her art, her kindness, the family she created-I felt an unexpected peace. The missing pieces of our family puzzle were finally coming together.

【答案】范文

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Leah was excited about the new school term because she heard there was a new art class. She had loved to draw since she was little, often doodling (信手涂鸦) on paper and dreaming of making beautiful pictures.
Leah’s parents worked very hard and were often busy, so she was usually alone at home after school. She didn’t like being alone because it made her feel lonely. This made her very eager for the art class. She hoped to find joy and companionship in the world of drawing.
On the first day of school, Leah sat in her classroom full of hope, looking forward to the art class after school. When the school bell rang, she quickly packed her bag and hurried to the art room. She was the first one to arrive at the art room. Standing at the door, she felt nervous but excited. Ms. White was busy organizing art supplies. Hearing footsteps, she looked up and greeted Leah with a smile. Leah introduced herself to Ms. White. Ms. White smiled warmly and said, “Welcome, Leah. I’m Ms. White. Nice to meet you.”
Ms. White’s smile was warm and sincere, like a ray of sunshine that made Leah feel safe and happy. Ms. White gently patted Leah’s head and said softly, “I’m happy you joined my art class. I’ll do my best to help you.” At that moment, Leah felt she was full of hope as if she could already see a bright future in drawing.
From then on, Leah went to the art room every day after school. Ms. White was always patient, teaching the students different drawing skills. She noticed that Leah had a keen sense for colors and lines, so she encouraged her to create her own works. Every time Leah finished a drawing, Ms. White would carefully admire it and gently say, “Your drawing is very special, full of imagination in every stroke (一笔).”

【答案】
One possible version:

The announcement of the “Go Green” campaign brought a wave of joy that ran through the students. The room was filled with discussions and activity as soon as Miss Tina left the class. Everyone had ideas for the upcoming campaign.
The campaign invited the students to share their creativity through planning different activities at nearby places that had lost their beauty due to pollution and climate change. It required the students to participate in two groups. One group would work by the riverside and the other would revive a public garden.
Alena immediately expressed her interest in joining the former group. Asad joined the latter group with excitement.
On a bright Saturday morning, all the students, along with their teachers, excitedly reached their respective spots.
The riverbank had always been one of Alena’s favourite places. But the spot, once beautiful and peaceful, was now covered with litter. Plastic bags were floating on the river. There were dried plants by the riverside, and the biodiversity was almost destroyed. This left all the students in great sadness. However, they were inspired by the motivation of restoring the place’s charm, making it clean once more.
All the kids brainstormed ideas before starting on their work. The students organised a clean-up drive, wading (跋涉) along the banks and pulling the trash from the river with the help of nets with long poles. Colourful recycling bins along the riverside were set up, all labelled with “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”. They also designed posters and warning signs, showing how plastic pollution was harmful for fish and other wildlife, and posted them along the riverbank at various places.
As for the other group, they selected the main city park, a popular public spot. But, over time, pollution had had a bad effect on the park and it had lost most of its greenery and there was litter everywhere.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:

Dave was in his car driving home. Work had been longer today than most days. His wife was expecting him home soon for dinner but he knew he would be late. Up ahead on the road there was a car that was pulled off to the side of the road. A gentleman in decent office clothing was standing at the tire (轮胎), looking quite confused.
“I should stop and help,” Dave thought. “But I’m already late... Maybe he can just call the policemen or a friend to come to get him.”
It was late November and in the mountains of Virginia it-was dark and cold. Dave already felt the guilt (内疚) of not stopping to help. “It’s cold... cell phone service is weak in these areas... what if he decided to walk... he can’t defend himself if an animal comes out of the woods.”
Led by guilt, Dave pulled in front of the broken down car and shut off his engine. “Need some help?” Dave yelled out. Now walking past the headlights he found a medium height older man, somewhere in his 60’s. “I have a flat tire. I’m a little ashamed to say I don’t know how to put on my spare tire.” Dave nodded. He put his hands in his jacket. “No worries. I’ll have you fixed up in no time. I own the car repair shop in town.”
Dave walked to the trunk of the car and took out the spare tire and tools. He took off the flat tire and placed the new one on quickly. “Could I give you some cash?” asked the old man. “No, I can’t take any cash. It was my pleasure to help. Now just promise me you will go straight home.” The old man laughed, “okay, fair deal. I promise, I’ll go straight home.” They shook hands and Dave turned around and started walking back towards his truck.
“This cold air...” he thought to himself, finding himself unwell. Dave felt his chest (胸部) tightening. He felt short of breath. He needed to sit down. He put his hand on his chest. He had to stop. The pain coming from his chest was so sharp. He felt breathless. Then his mind went blank.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Every time I find myself caught up in the busy life, I’ll remember an autumn day. I was a high-school student at the time. I had to deal with school affairs, social activities, and the pressure of upcoming college applications. Fortunately, it was my neighbor, Mr Jensen, who brought me back to earth.
Mr Jensen was a quiet man in his seventies who lived alone in the house next door. Despite our age difference, we had a shared love for gardening, a hobby that formed an unlikely friendship between us. Often, we would spend hours side by side in our gardens, sharing stories about the plants and flowers that we tended to with great care.
One sunny afternoon, feeling stressed and anxious, I decided to take a break from my studies. I headed outside to my backyard garden where I began to angrily weed (除杂草), and my annoyance was letting up with each of unwanted plants pulled out. Mr Jensen was there as usual, taking care of his flowering rosebushes.
Seeing my frustration, he walked slowly towards me and silently started weeding alongside me. After a few minutes of shared silence, he finally spoke up. “You know,” he began, “weeding a garden is a lot like going through life.” Deeply attracted, I stopped and looked at him with curiosity. He continued, “Sometimes, we focus so much on the weeds — the problems and difficulties — that we forget to enjoy the flowers.” He pointed to the beautiful roses in his garden, their bright colors shining in the afternoon sun.
“Don’t forget to appreciate the roses, even as you deal with the weeds,” he said.
Those simple and deep words lit up a light in my heart at that moment. I stared at the roses, which gently swayed (摇摆) in the light wind with a few drops on their petals (花瓣), looking especially beautiful. I suddenly realized that it had been a long time since I quietly appreciated the lovely things around me.

【答案】One possible version:

I am a high school student, and I’ve always been shy and quiet. Speaking up, especially in front of my classmates, has always been difficult for me. In class, I tend to avoid the teacher’s look and rarely volunteer answers. I find myself more comfortable observing from the sidelines, quietly taking notes and participating only when absolutely necessary.
So, when our teacher assigned a group project to create a mind map (思维导图) for a travel journal, I felt completely lost. It seemed like a huge task, and I had no idea where to begin. The thought of working with a group and contributing my ideas was difficult.
We were supposed to work in groups of four, and I wasn’t sure if I could contribute enough to make it a success. I was stressed by the idea of cooperating with others, especially since I wasn’t sure whether I had the creative skills they would expect for something like a mind map.
My friend Alice noticed my hesitation and immediately invited me to join her group. She said, “You should join Chris, Ryan, and me. You’re so creative, and I know that you’ll bring something great to the table.” She even mentioned how I had helped her before by creating small stories to memorize words, and how my creativity always surprised her.
I was touched by her faith in me, but despite her encouragement, I was still unsure. I didn’t feel confident about my ability to contribute to the group, especially when it came to something as creative as a mind map. I feared that my ideas might not be good enough or that I would let the team down. The thought of standing out in front of everyone with my contributions felt challenging. But Alice insisted, gently encouraging me to give it a try, promising me that we could work together and that my creativity would be valuable.

【答案】

Passage 3
(24-25高一下·辽宁沈阳·期末)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Jenny’s life centered around two things: her mother’s broom sweeping the streets and the books she loved to read. Her father had been sick for long, reducing the family to poverty. Her mother, Annika worked dawn till dusk as a street cleaner while Jenny balanced schoolwork and caregiving. Their apartment, though modest, held a shelf where stories like Broomstar’s Journey offered escape — a reminder that even gloomy days could hold magic.
When Annika’s arthritis (关节炎) worsened, Jenny joined her after school. Sweeping alongside her mother, the girl would recite lines from her favorite books, turning dull chores into adventures. “Words make the work lighter,” she told her mother, who smiled as she noted how Jenny’s eyes lit up with every story. One winter day, a neighbor snapped a photo of them — Jenny holding a broom in one hand and a dog-eared (书页折角的) book in the other — and shared it online with the caption: “Two hands, one broom, and a world of words.”
The post went viral. Soon donations poured in for her father’s treatment, and a local charity helped Annika open a small book café called Story Haven. It became a cozy place where kids could enjoy donated books, warm cocoa, and Jenny’s weekly storytime. As her father’s health improved, Jenny began writing her own stories — tales of talking brooms and girls who turned struggles into victories.
Then, on a spring morning, a silver car parked outside the café. Lindsey Hart, the famous children’s author whose books had inspired Jenny for years, stepped inside, a warm smile on her face. “I heard about a young storyteller here,” she said, approaching Jenny, who stood frozen in awe. Lindsey presented a signed copy of Whispers of the Broom and shared her own story of writing on napkins while working in her family’s bakery. “Your courage to dream while sweeping floors is what the magic writers chase,” she said, placing a hand on Jenny’s shoulder and leaving her telephone number, “Never let anything dim your light. Expecting your works in Children’s Tales Monthly.”

【答案】One possible version:

Passage 2

Passage 3
