Passage 1
(24-25八年级下·广东信宜市实验学校初中部·期末)
This year, children may get surprising toy gifts. The gifts can talk back. Toymakers have called 2025 the “Year of AI”. They are creating special robots and teddy bears. These toys, like chatbots (聊天机器人), can teach, play games, and tell stories. At school, students use AI tools and even study with chatbot teachers. Clearly, AI is deeply changing children’s childhood (童年).
________ It gives children special learning experiences. For example, if a child is not good at math, AI can teach him in different ways with fun pictures and songs. In places with few teachers, AI helps improve reading and speaking skills. For fun, AI makes toys smarter and lets children talk with them.
However, AI has dangers. Sometimes, it gives wrong answers or uses rude words. The words can make people feel unhappy or angry. Some students use AI to cheat on homework or make bad videos (视频). Also, AI shows kids only what they like and stops them from trying new things. What’s worse, chatbots always agree with children and never get angry, so children may not learn how to get along with real people.
To solve these problems, parents should control the time and check what their kids do online. Schools must teach kids to understand others’ feelings. Governments also need to make laws to keep AI safe. AI can give kids a great childhood, and the children are the luckiest ones if they can learn when to turn it off.
1.What have Toymakers named 2025?
A.The Year of AI. B.The Year of Toys.

Passage 2
(24-25八年级下·广东省深圳市龙岗区十四校联考·期末)
Many classrooms today have computers in them. However, there are usually not enough for each student to use one at the same time. Computers cost a lot and they also take up space in small classrooms. Laptop computers are more convenient because they need less space, and they can be carried or moved easily. However, most schools still cannot have enough money to buy them for every student.
These days there are cheaper devices (设备) that are small enough to be held in one hand but are still very powerful. The development of these handheld devices is allowing more schools to bring technology into classrooms.
Some of the first handheld devices were called PADs. They were used to help people in business stay well-planned. They could make lists of things to do each day, store important phone numbers, and even make files for work. Now we have smart phones and small tablets (平板电脑). These latest devices have improved a lot since those early PDA devices. Those used in schools today can do all the things the early PDAs did and more. They can be connected to the internet, run useful programs and help in science experiments.
Because handheld devices are quite cheap, schools can buy more of them. In some schools, students pay some money at the beginning of the year for a handheld device and they can get the money back at the end of the year if they return the device in good condition.
In the future, schools might be able to buy computers or laptops for every student. Handheld devices are turning out to be good things to use instead until then.
6.Schools don’t provide every student with a laptop computer because ________.
A.there is not enough space
B.there is not enough money
C.most students have their own laptops
D.the computer programs are not useful
7.In addition to what the early handheld devices did, the latest ones can ________.
A.make a to-do list B.store phone numbers
C.make files for work D.help in experiments
8.The underlined word “they” in paragraph 4 refers to ________.
A.students B.teachers C.schools D.businessmen
9.From the passage, we can infer that ________.

Passage 3
(24-25八年级下·广东省揭阳市惠来县第一中学·期末)
Computer scientist Mary has an idea for a new robot to help her work with children. How should it look? The robot should have arms to be able to carry things. And if it is going to communicate with people, it will also need a face. Scientists believe that giving a robot a face can make it seem more friendly. Humans would also like to pay more attention (关注) to robots with faces. But what kind?
For Mary, she wants to make sure that her new robot doesn’t look too much like a human. She wants people to just treat (对待) it as a machine-person. If it looks more like a human than a machine, she thinks users might find it a bit creepy and feel afraid, Mary also believes that robot faces don’t need to look a lot like ours. Her research shows that we can enjoy communicating with robots whether or not they look like humans, because our brains are able to look for faces. Just put two circles on top of a robot’s body, and we will see a face.
Dave feels differently. He believes that although at first we might be afraid when seeing a robot with a face like humans, we may soon be used to it. If robots are going to work closely with humans, they should look as much like us as possible. After all, faces are an important part of the way we communicate.
To make his robots look as much like real people as possible, Dave invented a special skin (皮肤) for their faces. With this skin, robots can show human-like expressions and appear to be angry, sad, happy or surprised. Dave’s robots are also programmed to copy expressions. How? Just imagine his robot is looking at you. The cameras in its eyes send pictures of your face to its central computer!

The Most Useful Inventions
The Invention Blog: A Place for People to Share Opinions
Today’s question is:
What do you think is the most useful invention of all time?
Posted by Amy on Saturday, November 5There are many — the train, the car, and the airplane are useful machines, but these are not my choices. For an everyday, useful invention, I vote for the air conditioner: I live in Guangzhou, and during the summer the temperature can be 35 degrees Celsius or more. It’s so hot! I’m not joking when I say that, without an air conditioner, people here can not work or study. A lot of people might get sick without cool air. Last summer, one of my classmates even suffered heatstroke in the countryside because there was no air conditioner.
Posted by John on Sunday, November 6The most useful invention of all time is surely the Internet. We can now reach people and do business faster. I own a clothing store in Mexico City and there is a lot of competition. I also have a website now. People from all over the world can buy my clothing using my website. I can keep in touch with friends and family in Mexico and around the world using e-mail. It is faster than usual mail, and it’s cheaper than using the phone!
Posted by Peter on Monday, November 7John, I also think that the Internet is useful. But, in my opinion, there is an “invention” that is even more important, and that’s electricity. Of course, this isn’t a man-made invention, but great people like Benjamin Franklin and Alessandro Volta learned how to use it. It’s closely related to people’s daily life now. My patients often need to have operations immediately at night. What if there’s no electricity? What’s more, without it, many of the world’s most important inventions would not work.
6.Why does Amy think air conditioners are the most useful?
A.Because it is easy to get sick in summer.
B.Because the temperature is high in summer.
C.Because students need to study in summer.
D.Because people work better with it in summer.
7.What can we know about the writers according to the passage?
A.All of them live in different cities in China.
B.They posted their articles on the same day.
C.All of them agreed the Internet was the most useful.
D.They shared their opinions about the same topic.
8.Which of the following is Not True?
A.John does his business on the Internet now.
B.Peter probably works as a doctor in a hospital.
C.Amy suffered heatstroke in Guangzhou last summer.
D.Benjamin Franklin once learned how to use electricity.
9.Where can we probably read this article?
A.In a magazine. B.From a website.
C.In a textbook. D.From an advertisement.

Passage 1
(24-25八年级下·广东汕头市龙湖实验中学·期末)
Here is one of the diaries from Greg, the Wimpy Kid (小屁孩).
WEDNESDAY
Lately, I had problems listening carefully at school, but luckily my homework wasn’t that hard. Our reading homework was to write about a famous writer, so I chose I. M. Spooky. But I could hardly find any information on him. The only thing I could find was the review in the back of his books.
The good news was that since (既然) I couldn’t find anything on I. M. Spooky, I finished my homework in about two minutes.
With a name like I. M. Spooky, I guess you have no choice (选择) but to write scary books for a living. I kind of wish I had never started reading those Spineticklers books, though. Because once you start reading them, it’s hard to stop. And the books are starting to give me dreams.
Spineticklers number 71 is about a kid who grows a tail. That one really made me scared, and the night I read it, I had a dream that I was the one with the tail. In fact, my dream started off good, because there were some fun things you could do with a tail that you wouldn’t think of.
In my dream I didn’t hate my tail, I was proud (骄傲的) of it. The only thing I didn’t like about it was that when I got excited about something, everyone could tell.
1.Greg finished his homework quickly because he _______.
A.knew the writer very well B.listened carefully at school
C.only wrote the writer’s name D.found a piece of good news
2.What did Greg think of Spineticklers books?
A.He didn’t like them. B.He didn’t mind them.
C.He really enjoyed them. D.He couldn’t stand them.
3.The underlined word “That one” refers to _______
A.the tail B.the book C.the dream D.the night
4.We can learn from the underlined sentence that the tail ___________.
A.made him look scary B.brought him bad dreams
C.stopped him doing fun things D.showed his feelings easily
【答案】1.C 2.C 3.B 4.D
【导语】本文是一篇应用文。文章主要记录了一个小屁孩 (Greg) 的日常生活和感受,特别是关于他做作业、阅读书籍以及做梦的经历。
1.推理判断题。根据第二段“The only thing I could find was the review in the back of his books.”和第三段“The good news was that since I couldn’t find anything on I. M. Spooky, I finished my homework in about two minutes.”可知,Greg几乎找不到关于作家I. M. Spooky的任何信息,所以推测他可能只是写了作家的名字,因此能快速完成作业。故选C。
2.推理判断题。根据第四段 “Because once you start reading them, it’s hard to stop. And the books are starting to give me dreams.”可知,Greg一旦开始读这些书就很难停下来,并且书还让他做梦;据此可以推断,他被书吸引,很喜欢这些书。故选C。
3.词义猜测题。根据第五段“Spineticklers number 71 is about a kid who grows a tail. That one really made me scared, and the night I read it,”可知,那天晚上,Greg开始读《Spineticklers》系列中的第71本书,让他很害怕;据此可以推断,划线部分“That one”指代上文提到的《Spineticklers》系列中的第71本书。故选B。
4.推理判断题。根据最后一段“In my dream I didn’t hate my tail, I was proud of it. The only thing I didn’t like about it was that when I got excited about something, everyone could tell.”
Passage 2
(24-25八年级下·广东广雅中学·期末)
In the local park, a large unusual object has been found. A creature from outer space has appeared from the object, which is clearly some sort of spacecraft. Read the following responses by people who saw the alien landing.
Child playing in the parkI was playing on the swings with my friends when I saw this great big streak of light like a rainbow come out the sky towards me. I was terrified so I hid under the slide. There was a screening noise as it crashed into the football pitch. There was smoke coming out of it. I thought it was a helicopter or something. Then the noise started turning and it opened. The huge alien came walking out holding his hand over his eyes. He saw me and then just…well. he waved. I thought “He can’t be that bad if he waves,” but I ran all the way home to tell Mum. I don’t like to admit it but I cried. Just a bit.
Owen Jones, 10
Local residentI don’t like him. This alien comes from out of nowhere and ruins our park, scaring our children. He seems friendly enough now but we don’t know if he has got weapons and things on board his spaceship. I know the doctor says he is healthy but he may have all sorts of diseases we don’t even know about. If he stays, it will mean trouble. Send him back where he came from and let the people in this community get on with our own lives like we always did.
Emily Widgery, 88
Local doctorI have examined the alien and I can say there are no signs of any illness. However, I think we should be careful. We are dealing with an unknown being from another world and it may present some health threats to humans in the future.
I am hoping to talk to him later about our medicines and I want to find out if he has any knowledge or medicines that can help humans. I am already beginning to learn his language.
Dr Regina Coldfingers, 56
Police InspectorEyewitness reports tell us that the spacecraft landed in the local park on Saturday morning between 9:00 and 9:30. Our officers arrived at the scene. We requested the stranger, who was sitting on a swing waving, to give himself up and he did so without resistance.

Passage 1
(24-25八年级下·广东省湛江市湛江第一中学·期末)
Many kids help their parents to do chores such as washing the dishes, cleaning the floor and taking out the rubbish in the house. And some kids get money or other rewards (回报) from their parents, such as playing computer games for 20 minutes.
But some people do not think that kids should get rewards for doing chores. One of them is Susie Walton, a parenting educator. She believes that if kids get rewards, they will think there is no need to do chores unless they can get something. For example, kids won’t sweep the floor if they see it is dirty. But they will clean the floor if their parents reward them for doing it. Susie said, “A home is a living place for everyone in the family. It’s important for kids to see that it’s all family members’ job to keep their home clean.”
Other people have a different opinion. They believe that money or other rewards can encourage kids to do more chores. Now, there are also apps that encourage kids to do chores. The apps give kids points and gifts that can be used either online or in the real world. With the app Chore Monster, kids get points after doing chores. Kids can exchange (交换) them for real rewards, such as time to play video games or a trip to the mall.
What do you think? Should kids get rewards for doing chores? Or should kids help out around their homes without getting anything?

Passage 3
(24-25八年级下·广东南海实验中学·期末)
Many kids do housework such as doing the dishes, making the bed, and folding the clothes. In exchange, they get some money or other computer time. Paying kids for housework is one of the most popular topics, especially at a time when everyone is more careful about money. Some parents think since adults are paid to do their jobs, we should pay kids for everyday housework.
But some people don’t think kids should get rewards(报酬) for doing housework. Susie Walton, an expert, believe that by rewarding kids, parents are sending a message that work isn’t worth doing unless you get something in return. “Running any kind of housework is a team effort,” Walton said. “A home is a living space for everyone in the family. It’s important for kids to see that we all have responsibilities in the house, and families decide how they want their home to look, and how they are going to keep it looking like what they want.”
Other people believe that getting a reward encourages kids to do housework, and it also teaches them real world lessons about how we need to work to get money. There are also apps(程序) that gives kids points and digital gifts that can be redeemed(兑现) either online or in the real world. “Our goal is to give kids lawful power so they can get rewards,” says Chris Bergman. “And kids need rewards to help encourage them. ”

C.stay away from housework D.do housework be getting rewards
15.Which is the best title for the passage?

C.Should Kids Be Rewarded for Doing Housework

C.The Year of Snake. D.The Year of Chatbot.

3.What does the underlined word “rude” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Simple. B.Private. C.Impolite. D.Unusual.
4.According to Paragraph 4, if a child wants to study with the chatbot, his parents may say “________”.
A.Don’t study with it any more.
B.You can use it within half an hour.
C.Why not make rules to keep you safe?
D.You should understand its feelings well.
5.What is the best title of the passage?
A.How to Control AI B.The Effects of AI on Children
C.The value of AI Toys D.How to Make AI Tools for Teachers
A.students need to learn how to write programs
B.small cheap devices can be helpful in classrooms
C.schools should provide more computer classes
D.all the students can use handheld devices for free
10.The best title for the passage can be “________”.
A.The Problems of Modern Technology
B.The Growing Need for Modern Technology
C.The Use of Handheld Devices in Class
D.The Development of Handheld Devices
11.Why do scientists think a robot needs a face?
A.It will become more beautiful. B.It can do better in carrying things.
C.It will pay more attention to children. D.It can better communicate with people.
12.What does the underlined word “creepy” mean in paragraph 2?
A.Uncomfortable to look at. B.Impossible to touch.
C.Boring to talk to.. D.Difficult to understand.
13.What can help us to look for faces according to Mary?
A.The eyes. B.The brains. C.The robot. D.Two circles.
14.Which of the following would Dave most probably agree with?
A.People should treat robots as humans.
B.Robots need to express their own feelings.
C.Robots shouldn’t look too much like humans.
D.People can easily accept robots with a human face.
15.What is the purpose of the passage?
A.To explain the reasons why robots should have faces.
B.To advise what humans can do with robots with faces.
C.To share ideas on what kind of faces robots should have.
D.To show how scientists invent robots with different faces.

Nowadays, AI is becoming increasingly popular and has found its way into many parts of our daily lives. An online video maker Jiang Wei used AI technology (技术) to “talk to” the great poet (诗人) Li Bai. In his video, he asked Li Bai how he became a great poet in history. He also told Li Bai about the movie Chang An. He shared this video on the Internet and some students showed their ideas online.
Xin Chengji, a 14-year-old boy, he thinks using AI to talk with people who lived in the past is great. It gives people a way to know about the life in the past. What’s more, when talking with them, we may get some encouragement (鼓励) so that we can improve ourselves.
Zhang Meimei a 14-year-old girl, she thinks the idea may sound great, but in fact, the person we talk with through AI could never be the real person. The talk is made up! So she thinks it’s meaningless.
In conclusion, AI’s role in connecting past and present causes different opinions. Whether it’s inspiring (鼓舞) or not, it surely makes us think deeply about its value and effect.

Passage 2
