Passage 4
(24-25七年级下·广东深圳市福永中学·期末)
①In today’s world, scientists are developing innovative (创新的) solutions to environmental problems. Let’s explore three groundbreaking ones.
② Engineers in Amsterdam have invented a new birdhouse. It has computers inside and is powered by solar panels on its roof. When the air is clean enough, the birdhouse turns green and provides free WiFi to people nearby. If the air gets polluted, it turns red. People love this idea. They ride bikes more, so the air gets cleaner and they get free internet.
③In Chile’s dry desert areas, getting clean water is not easy. Scientists created a smart machine. It takes water from the air and works like this: when warm air touches its cold surface, water drops form — just like on a cold drink can. The machine collects the water and cleans it. One such machine can produce enough water each day for a family of four to drink. Best of all, it uses solar power, so it works even in places without electricity.
④A famous British band had cool ideas for their concerts (演唱会). They installed (安装) special floors on stage called “Kinetic floors”. The floors can make electricity when fans dance. The band also offer fans exercise bikes to ride, and this helped power the show! At one concert, the electricity fans made was enough to power 300 homes for an hour! Now, many other bands are following these cool ideas.

Passage 5
(24-25七年级下·广东深圳市福田区红岭中学·期末)
Have you ever seen a little penguin wearing a sweater? It sounds impossible, but it is true! Actually, a terrible accident long ago led to this.
In the late 1990s, a big oil spill (石油泄漏) happened near Phillip Island, Australia. Thousands of penguins were covered in thick oil. Though rescuers saved them, the penguins became weak. That is because penguins usually use their beaks (喙) to clean their feathers (羽毛). When oil sticks to them, they take in some harmful chemicals. Besides, oil makes their feathers fail to keep warm. Cold penguins cannot swim or hunt for food, which makes them weak, cold, and even lose their lives.
To solve this problem, the Penguin Foundation started a caring program. They called on people to make wool sweaters. These sweaters do three things: keep penguins warm, stop them from eating oil, and allow rescuers to clean them safely.
In addition, the sweaters must follow strict rules:
·Use 100% wool (other materials harm penguins);
·Make size 30cm × 40cm;
·No decorations or other things.
The penguin sweater program has been running for over 20 years. During this time, kind-hearted people worldwide have sent over 200,000 sweaters! With their help, 96% of rescued penguins have successfully returned to the wild. Today, the program keeps preparing sweaters even when no new oil spills happen.

(24-25七年级下·广东广州大学附属中学·期末)
Plants use chemicals to talk with each other. This happens when insects are eating a plant’s leaves. Then, the plant gives out chemicals from those leaves. This is like a warning, or a call for help, “Mayday, mayday!” When another plant gets the chemicals, it starts to give out its own different chemicals. Some of these chemicals drive insects away. Others make the bees interested in the plant. The bees will come and kill those harmful insects. Scientists hope to learn more about this plant warning system (系统). So we can use it to grow more crops.
More surprisingly, plants also make sounds. But people can’t hear these sounds. Some plants, such as corn and chili plants, make noises with their roots. Some trees make clicking noises when there is little water. Plants, like tomatoes, make a sound when they are weak. When animals like bats hear them, they will come to help. Scientists are trying to listen to these sick plants. Then they can find new ways to grow healthier plants without touching them.
Most surprisingly of all, plants have a wonderful talking system. Scientists call this system the “wood wide web”, just like the Internet we use. The plants, such as fungi, connect the roots of different plants and make the web under the ground. By using the web, plants can greet each other and give food to others. However, not all plants are friendly. Some may use it to take other plants’ food, or send chemicals to hurt other plants. Probably one day scientists will learn how to create a “firewall” to help stop these fights.
Scientists are learning more about how plants talk so that they can grow better. Maybe one day we will be able to “talk” with them ourselves.
16.Which sentence can replace(代替) “Mayday, mayday!” in paragraph 1?

Passage 1
(24-25七年级下·广东佛山市南海区第一中学·期末)
Do you know happiness is also a science? In a Harvard study, researchers asked students to write down three good things every day for just one week, and it showed that these students became 25% happier and stayed happier for six months! This simple practice trained their brains (头脑) to see happiness in life. So how do we train our brain for happiness?
Scientists found that dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin and endorphin can make people happy. Dopamine comes from things like winning a race, and serotonin from sunlight. As for oxytocin, when Mr. Thompson’s students gave him a surprise birthday card, he was touched—that’s oxytocin creating the feeling of love. Passage 2
(24-25七年级下·广东省深圳外国语学校·期末)
West Town Bike is a group that organizes local bike clubs for teenagers. It is based in Chicago. Teens at West Town Bike say that they enjoy biking, but biking in this city sometimes seems dangerous. Recently, these students have suggested a lot of solutions in order to make roads safer for bikers.
David Harb, a senior at Lane Tech High School, has learned hand signals from his father since he was 6. These simple movements tell drivers if a biker plans to turn or stop. “They’re like a secret language between riders and drivers.” David explained. Now riding to school daily, he strongly believes this skill should be taught in classrooms. “Why not start bike safety clubs?” he suggested. “Schools could have weekly classes showing students proper hand signals. No need for building new roads-just use your arms to stay safe.”
Christopher Garcia, a student from Lake View High School, has another idea. He thinks that the government should set up bike safety zones near busy crossroads. These zones could include clear markings and signs to guide bikers and warn drivers. “Drivers know they should slow down or stop when they see these signs.” Christopher explained. He even presented his design as an example. “If we add flashing lights and clear ‘Bike Zone’ signs at this busy crossroads near the school, students will pass through this area more safely.”
Jane Perez, a night rider from Lincoln High School, agrees it’s important for bikers to be noticed by drivers. Though her bike has three bright LED lights, many streets are still too dark and unsafe, “Many roads don’t have proper lighting.” she said. “We should add more bike-friendly streetlights, which can help drivers notice us from far away. This would be an efficient way to prevent accidents.”

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: “I am blind, please help.” There were only a few coins in the hat.
A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and put them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.
Soon the hat began to be full of coins. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, “Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?”
The man said, “I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way.”
What he had written was: “Today is a beautiful day but I cannot see it.”
Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing? Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. The mangrove wetlands (红树林湿地) of Shenzhen’s Futian and Hong Kong’s Mai Po are very valuable. Every year, many waterbirds fly from East Asia to Australia. These wetlands are a key place for them to rest. These years, Shenzhen and Hong Kong have worked together to protect these important wetlands.
Why are these mangrove wetlands so important? Because they are like nature’s protectors. They make a natural wall, protecting coasts from big storms (暴风雨). Besides, the thick forest of mangrove trees provides a perfect home for birds. They build nests there and look after their babies. “Even during storms, baby birds are safe in the mangroves,” said Simon Wong from Hong Kong’s nature team. What’s more, mangroves help take in CO₂ and clean the water. As a result, they are helpful for both nature and humans.
To protect the wetlands together, Shenzhen and Hong Kong have used different ways since 2023. One of them is to protect birds’ homes with the help of modern AI technology. Thanks to their efforts, the population of endangered birds in the wetlands has grown. For example, there were only about 300 black-faced spoonbills (黑脸琵鹭) around 30 years ago. Now there are nearly 7,000.
In November 2024, the two cities started a new part of their teamwork. The International Mangrove Center (IMC) in Shenzhen opened. The IMC does research on mangrove protection, shares useful ideas and gives classes to the public. Its opening helps Shenzhen and Hong Kong work better to protect the wetlands. Passage 2
(24-25七年级下·广东深圳市罗湖区翠园中学·期末)
China has a good story to tell about forests: Forests covered only 8.6% of China’s land area when the new China was founded in 1949. Till now, 24.02% of China has been covered with forests. It is planting forests of the same size of a Belgium (比利时) every year. What happened in these past years in China? The reforestation of Saihanba is one of the stories that have made history.
Along the Mongolian Desert (蒙古沙漠), Saihanba was once a large area of forests, but after years of tree felling, it became a wasteland in the late Qing Dynasty. In the 1960s, China decided to regreen the desert. Hundreds of foresters went to this wild place. They fought against long cold winters, terrible droughts (干旱) and sandstorms. The hard work lasted over 50 years, but it finally paid off. Saihanba now stands as a great green wall against the Hunshandake Desert (浑善达克沙漠).
Forests can be seen in China’s cities, too. Take a walk around Shenzhen, Chongqing, or Kunming. Everywhere you go, you see the cities covered with trees. Being close to nature makes us healthier and happier. City forests do much good to human society: they beautify the land, clean the air, reduce the noise, and protect the soil. They also decrease the risk of flooding, provide home for all kinds of creatures and store carbon dioxide.

Poyang Lake is China’s largest fresh-water lake. According to the news on China Youth Network on October 9, 2024, the lake came to its dry season, much earlier than before. Fishermen could no longer make a living and people living nearby faced water shortage.
You are wrong if you think this will not happen again. Two-thirds of China’s cities now face water shortage. And about 300 million people living in the countryside drink unhealthy water.
The water shortage in the world looks even sadder. By 2030, about half of the world population could be facing water shortage, said Ban Ki-moon at the Budapest Water Summit in Hungary.
Think about our children and our children’s children. We should try to make the world a better place. To deal with the problem, Ban calls on people to use water in a sustainable (sustainable) way. “Farmers should learn to get more ‘crop per drop’ by using good irrigation technologies (irrigation technologies). And also, governments should deal with the problem with all other players, including everyone,” Ban said.
How can we help? It’s simple: do not waste even a drop of water! For example, turn off the tap while you are brushing your teeth, drink up bottled water before you throw the bottle away, and don’t pour out water that can be reused. If we can remember and follow this, we will make a difference.
11.Which of the following can show the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
12.What does Ban Ki-moon predict about the global water crisis by 2030?
A.Only developing countries will suffer from water shortage.
B.Most countries will have solved their water problems.
C.50% of humanity will experience shortage of clean water.
D.New technologies will make water shortage disappear.
13.Which of the following solutions to water shortage is NOT mentioned in the article?
A.Individuals should avoid water waste in daily activities.

China has its own “spidermen” in Huangshan, Anhui Province. Their work is not to save the world, but to collect rubbish from high mountain or get phones dropped by tourists.
Li Peisheng, 51, is one of the 18 spidermen. They climbed down the Mountain on ropes to keep it clean. “We collect and clean rubbish from very steep cliffs (悬崖),” he said. “When we climb, one hand holds tight, and the other hand moves us carefully. We must be careful not to hit the rocks or bushes.”
He added, “To be a ‘Spider-Man’ cleaner, you need a strong awareness of safety and you have to be responsible. Besides, you’d better be in very good health. People with heart problems can’t do this job.”
About 20 years ago, 800,000 tourists visited Huangshan every year. At that time, the “Spider-Men” used to climb down seven or eight times a day, sometimes even 10 times, to pick up trash. In recent years, about 4.5 million tourists come each year, but they climb down only four or five times a day, and seven or eight times a day during busy tourist seasons.
16.What can the birdhouse in Amsterdam do?

·Use 100% wool (other materials harm penguins);
·Make size 30cm × 40cm;

④“VR travelling makes the impossible possible!” Emily Harper, a disabled girl said excitedly. “It lets me visit places that might be hard to reach in real life. ”
⑤However, some people say that VR can never take the place of real travel experiences. You cannot feel the weather, take beautiful photos with friends, it can bring other problems. If people spend too much time on it, they might not want to go out with family and friends. What’s more distinguish between the real world and the virtual world. They might think that they are the same.

Passage 3
(24-25七年级下·广东中山市华侨中学·期末)
A smart (智能) city is like a big, clever robot. It can “think” and make everything work in a smart way! For example (例如), in smart cities of China, when you are close to your home, your smart watch turns on the lights for you. You can visit different places in a car without a driver. What about smart cities in foreign countries? Let’s have a look at two of them.
Singapore
The “Garden City” has smart ways to make the city friendly to children. In some libraries, kids can listen to stories in cool ways. When a teacher tells a story about a tiger, a picture of a tiger will show on the wall. Kids will also hear a tiger roar. This makes the story more interesting.
London, UK
London has many new ways to be a smart city. One of the examples is an app (应用软件) showing a clean air route (路线) map of the city. The map has three different coloured routes—red, orange and green. If people have to go out on a day with bad air, they can find out the route with the cleanest air.
11.What does your smart watch do when you are close to your home?
A.It opens the door. B.It turns on the lights.
C.It parks your car. D.It says Hello to you.
12.Where can kids listen to stories in cool ways in Singapore?

C.Make the routes clean. D.Choose another day to go out.
15.Which can be the best title of the passage?
A.Smart Robots. B.Smart Walls. C.Smart Apps. D.Smart Cities.
Passage 4
A.Be careful! The insects are eating my leaves!
B.Let’s celebrate the holiday May Day!
C.Come to me, bee! Kill the insects!
D.Let me give you some food and drinks!
17.Which of the following about plants’ sounds is TRUE?
A.Some plants can talk to people.
B.Plants like tomatoes make noises for greeting.
C.Some animals can understand plants’ sounds.
D.Scientists can grow healthy plants by talking to them.
18.What do plants use the “wood wide web” to do?
A.Produce food with other plants.
B.Give out chemicals to keep off insects.
C.Send food to or take food from other plants.
D.Connect the roots of different plants.
19.Why do scientists want to learn about plants’ talks?
A.To create a “firewall” to stop insects.
B.To help plants grow better.
C.To build a bigger web for plants.
D.To improve plants’ talking system.

And endorphin helps you feel better after exercising or crying.
That is to say, by creating more dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin or endorphin, ▲ . And here are five ways to help, First, hug someone you love. Second, do a victory dance when something good happens, Third, give 3 compliments a day. For example, tell your friend “Your smile makes me happy.” Fourth, walk in nature.
6.According to David, who should teach hand signals to teenagers?
A.Family members. B.Police officers.
C.Local bike clubs. D.Schools and teachers.
7.What does Christopher suggest to make biking safer?
A.Improving lighting in dark areas. B.Building more new roads for students.
C.Creating a safe area to protect the bikers. D.Helping drivers know if bikers want to turn.

Passage 3
(24-25七年级下·广东广州祈福英语实验学校·期末)
But the first one simply told people to help by putting some money in the hat. However, the second one told people that they were able to enjoy the day. It told them they were lucky and they were not blind. There are at least two lessons we can learn from this simple story. The first is: Be thankful for what you have. Someone else has less. Help whenever you can. The second is: Think differently. There is always a better way!

Passage 4
(24-25七年级下·广东广州市南海中学·期末)
We are lucky to live in a rich country where we have many things. However, most of us usually waste some things.
Electricity is one thing that we waste most. Lights, TVs, radios and other things are often kept on even when no one is using them. We should turn them off when we do not need them. It takes less than a second to do it. Not wasting electricity also saves money, because we do not have to pay for the electricity we do not use.
The second thing that we often waste is water. Fresh water is precious(宝贵的), so it shouldn’t be wasted. It is only a simple matter of turning off a tap. I am sure everybody can do this easily if he wants to.
Another waste is food. My parents used to cook so much food that some of it was thrown away. I told them we had wasted some food. They thought I was right and now cook only what we can eat.
It is not right to be wasteful. I find there is a simple way of not wasting things. That is to use only what we need. In this way we can stop being wasteful.

A.Keep the computer on when we are not using it.
B.Cook as much food as we can for dinner.
C.Turn off the lights when we leave a room.
D.Leave the water running while brushing our teeth.
主题03 人与自然——环境保护
Passage 1
(24-25七年级下·广东省深圳中学初中部·期末)
D.People don’t need to worry about wetland problems because of the IMC.
5.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Mangroves provide safe homes for waterbirds.
B.The IMC in Shenzhen helps protect the wetlands.
C.There are more black-faced spoonbills in Shenzhen.
D.The two cities protect the mangrove wetlands together.

B.Few changes have taken place in China in the past few years.
C.China’s forests today are nearly three times as many as in 1949.
D.New China was covered with many forests when it was founded in 1949.
7.Why does the writer tell the story of Saihanba in the passage?
A.To give an example of China’s planting forests in the past years.
B.To show how hard the foresters worked to turn it into forests.

②By providing homes for animals.
③By producing carbon dioxide.
④By protecting the soil.
A.①②③ B.②③④ C.①②④ D.①③④
10.What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.China’s city forests. B.China’s foresters.
C.China’s plan for future. D.China’s story about forests.
Passage 3
(24-25七年级下·广东广州市越秀区执信中学·期末)
B.Farmers should improve irrigation methods to save water.
C.Governments should work with different groups to solve the problem.
D.Farmers should develop technologies to create man-made water sources.
14.What is the best title for this passage?
A.Poyang Lake: China’s Largest Fresh-water Lake
B.Water Shortage: A Growing Problem Worldwide
C.Small Actions, Big Change: Stop Wasting Water Now
D.Irrigation Technologies: The Solution to Water Shortage
