Every morning at 7:15,the flower lady appears at the 86th Street subway entrance. Her name is Maria,
though people usually call her la sefiora de las rosas. For twenty-three years, rain or shine, she has sold
single roses from a metal cart for $2 each.
I first noticed her during my chaotic freshman year in college.Rushing to catch the train one October
day,I tripped over a loose sidewalk brick,dropping my textbooks everywhere.Before I could react,Maria
was beside me,gathering the pages with hands weathered by decades of work.Be careful,my kid,"she said
softly, pressing a rose into my palm()."Today needs beauty."
That rose sat in a coffee cup on my dommitory desk for weeks. When it withered()I returned to
buy another-and ended up listening to Maria's stories between customers. She had
immigrated (from Colombia at sixteen, raised three children as a single mum,and kept this corner
colourful with flowers even after the increase in rent forced her to close her actual shop
Last winter,Maria disappeared for two weeks.Regular customers whispered worries until a New York
Post reporter discovered the truth:she'd used her savings to pay a neighbor's medical bill. When she
reappeared, wearing an oversized coat, the line at her cart stretched around the block.Strangers brought
bottles of hot chocolate;a ballet dancer performed pirouettes for her amusement.
On my graduation day,I brought Maria a handmade crown of flowers. She laughed, her wrinkles
deepening like sunlit petals((花瓣),and pinned it above her usual seat
Now,as a teacher,I tell my students about the woman who turned a simple street corner into a
sanctuary of kindness.For twenty-three years,she didn't just sell roses-she spread hope,warmth,and the
quiet magic of caring for strangers, proving beauty lives in ordinary hearts

Currently, most packaging is single-use and is made with plastic materials obtained from
nonrenewable resources like fossil oil that take hundreds of years to break down in the environment. On top
of this, only 90 of plastic is recycled. This has resulted in the formation of floating piles of plastic garbage
in the ocean, called"the Great Pacific Garbage Patch".Perhaps the biggest contributor to plastic waste,at
least in the United States,is plastic bags, the kind found at most stores. These bags, while sometimes
recycled, are often only used once and can be found littered throughout the environment.
To address this problem,Srinivas Janaswamy from South Dakota State University is working towards
developing a plastic-like bag that will break down in the environment. The key ingredient of Janaswamy's
work is Cellulose ()It's a common organic substance on Earth and is found, primarily,in the cell
walls of plants.Cellulose gives plants structural strength and firmness thanks to its chemical makeup and
long,chain-like form."By obtaining cellulose from agricultural products,value-added products can be
created,"Janaswamy said.
Janaswamy then met Anne Fennell,a leading researcher in the study of grapevines which are
rich in cellulose.Every year, after the majority of new branches on the vine are cut off, they are either cut
into pieces and buried in the soil or burned in some areas."Since grapevines are plentiful and have
insignificant use after harvest, why not use this for value-added films()?"Janaswamy thought.
Janaswamy's idea led to cooperation, and soon he was getting cellulose which looks almost like cotton
-from grapevines.Janaswamy's grapevine films are transparent and strong, and break down within 17
days in the soil-leaving behind no harmful remains."High transparency enhances product visibility and
allows a quick check of the quality without even opening the package. These films demonstrate excellent
promise for food packaging,"Fennell said.
8.What does the author try to illustrate by mentioningthe Great Pacific Garbage Patch"in Paragraph 1?
A.The severe plastic pollution.B.The limits of recycling technology
C.The improper shopping habits.D.The promise of renewable resources.
9.Why is cellulose essential to Janaswamy's plastic-like bags?
A.It can be found everywhere.B.It can be recycled from food waste.
C.It helps form strong structures.D.It breaks down into usable materials.
10.What advantage of the grapevine films does Fennell highlight in the last paragraph?
A.Their low expenses.B.Their user-friendliness.
C.Their easy production.D.Their energy-efficiency.
11.Which of the following is the most suitable title for the passage?
A.The Plastic Pollution in the Pacific Ocean
B.The Treatment of Grapevines After Harvest
C.Cellulose:A Vital Organic Substance in Plant
D.Grapevine Films:Eco-Friendly Plastic Alternative

Scientists at Finland's Aalto University have found that using artificial intelligence(AI)almost
removes and reverses )the Dunning-Kruger effect,a phenomenon that people who aren't very good at
a given task are overconfident, while people with high ability tend to underestimate their skills.Their
research showed that when using common chatbots to solve problems, everyone(regardless of their skill
level)tended to put too much faith in the quality of the answers, with the most experienced AI users doing
so the most.
In the study, scientists gave 500 subjects logical reasoning tasks, with half allowed to use ChatGPT.
Both groups were later quizzed on both their AI literacy and how well they thought they performed, and
promised extra rewards if they assessed their own performance accurately.
The reasons behind the findings are varied.Because AI users were usually satisfied with their answer
after only one question or prompt(),accepting the answer without further checking or confirmation,
they can be said to have engaged in what Robin Welsch,an Aalto University computer scientist, calls
"cognitive (offloading"-exploring the question with reduced reflection, and approaching it in a
more“shallow'way
Such less engagement in our own reasoning means we bypass the usual feedback process of critical
thinking, which reduces our ability to assess our performance accurately.Even more revealing was the fact
that we all overestimate our abilities when using AI,regardless of our intelligence, with the gap between
high-and low-skill users reducing. The study owed this to the fact that large language models (LLMs)help
everyone perform better to some degree.Meanwhile, the Aalto team wamed of several potential impacts as
AI becomes more widespread
Firstly, metacognitive accuracy overall might suffer.Without reflecting on results, error checking or
deeper reasoning,we risk weakening our ability to source information reliably, the scientists said in the
study. What's more, the flattening of the Dunning-Kruger Effect will mean we'll all continue to
overestimate our abilities while using AI,with the more AI-literate among us doing so even more-
leading to an increased climate of miscalculated decision-making and a drop in their skills.
12.What did Aalto University researchers discover about AI chatbot use?
A.Low-ability users became less confident.
B.It strengthened the Dunning-Kruger Effect.
C.Users generally over-trusted the chatbot's answers
D.Only beginners often thought highly of their abilities.
13.Which aspect of the research is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.The purpose.
B.The process.
C.The subjects.
D.The findings.
14.Why do the users often overestimate their abilities?
A.LLMs'aid improves users'task performance.
B.Users often skip the process of critical thinking
C.AI tools contribute to users'metacognitive accuracy.
D.The gap between high-and low-skill AI users is bridged.
15.What will be probably talked about in the following paragraph?
A.Regulations for narrowing AI users'skill gap
B.Guidelines for sourcing information reliably
C.Methods for preventing users'cognitive decline.
D.Tips for improving the subjects'performance.

Scientific literacy refers to the ability to understand, interpret and evaluate scientific information. It enables
people to grasp how and why things work the way they do.16 Here are some ways to improve
scientific literacy:
Fight misinformation.
Science education is essential to fighting misinformation.17 Without this ability, they're more
likely to take untrue or science illiterate altematives at face value. This has led to people outright denying
the reality of climate change and global warming.Teaching people how to identify reliable information can
prevent such misconceptions.
18
People are more likely to achieve scientific literacy when they see it has practical value. So show them how
an increased understanding of science can boost economic productivity, increase personal well-being,
improve professional development, and have a positive general impact on their everyday lives.
Specify needed skills.
_19To make learning more manageable,it's important to break these down into smaller, digestible
components. For example, show people how to form a hypothesis ()conduct an experiment using the
scientific method,or read through a science paper and evaluate its truthfulness.
Take a wide-angle view.
Encourage people to study different scientific fields. For example, someone may have a hard time
understanding the scientific processes underlying a life science (like chemistry)but also take to a more
physical branch of the field (like earth science).Use their enthusiasm for the latter to inspire them to work
harder to understand the former.
20
A.Demonstrate real-world benefits
B.Show how to engage with science.
C.It also enhances their critical thinking skills
D.Scientific literacy involves a wide range of skills.
E.People must learn to check if information sources are true.
F.Multiple skills can be presented in a rather innovative way.
G.Try different strategies to encourage a love of the field in general.

第二节满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My name is Mae.I've always been passionate about exploring and solving problems ---whether fixing a
broken toy or figuring out how a phone app works. This led me to join our school's Coding (Club. In
our first lesson,Ms.Davis told us that coding is more than writing lines of code.It is about using
technology to make life easier for others.
"Your project,"she announced in class one day,"is to create a simple app that solves a real-life
problem."You have one week to prepare,"She added gently, hoping this would give us enough time to find
inspiration and finish the project.
The challenge stayed with me as I walked to my neighbor Mrs.Thompson's apartment after school. She had
invited me for tea,as she often did on Tuesdays.Mrs.Thompson was kind and cheerful, but lately she had
been a little forgetful, often misplacing her keys or repeating the same story twice without realizing it.
When I arrived, she was in the kitchen.
"Mae!Good timing,"she greeted me warmly,and then stopped,glancing at the kettle."Did I already boil
water for tea?"
I checked the kettle---it was still warm.We laughed about it as I poured water, and soon we were chatting.
Our conversation turned to her weekly book club with friends.Mrs.Thompson smiled, talking about her
two old friends.Mr.Brown arrived late for the game, and Mrs.Smith failed to bring her glasses twice.
"Were quite a group,"she said.
Then her expression grew thoughtful."We manage,of course. But sometimes I think-wouldn't it be nice if
something simply reminds us?Take medicine.Water the plants.Friday for book club."She tapped her head
with a soft laugh.
Her words sank in.At that moment,an idea formed in my mind.As I stood up to leave,I smiled
mysteriously,"Give me a few days,and I'll bring you a little surprise.
"Oh?I'll try not to forget that,"she laughed.

参考范文:
That night,I sat at my desk, notebook open and mind racing with details.Excitement bubbled in
my chest as I jotted down key features for a senior-friendly reminder app, including medicine alerts, daily
chores and weekly club meetings with clear time settings.I turned on my laptop and started coding,my
fingers flying across the keyboard to design a simple interface with large buttons and clear instructions, yet
soon got stuck on the repeated-reminder function.I searched online for coding tips and asked a Coding
Club senior for help. After hours of continuous attempts, the code finally worked.I added a soft ringtone
and saved the app, grinning proudly at my achievement.(Word count:99)
A week later I presented my project to Ms Davis.Though nervous with trembling hands,I
demonstrated the app's practical functions, sharing my neighbor's troubles behind my design.Ms.Davis
nodded with approving eyes and led the whole class in heartfelt applause. She praised me for putting
knowledge into practice and understanding coding's true meaning. After school,I hurried to Mrs.
Thompson's home and installed the app on her phone. Thanks to it,she never forgot her medicine doses or
missed book-club meetings again. It dawned on me that coding is far more than cold lines of code, but a
warm technology that helps others and brightens ordinary people's lives.(Word count:99)深圳市盐田高级中学2026届高考适应性考试

Every morning at 7:15,the flower lady appears at the 86th Street subway entrance. Her name is Maria,
though people usually call her la sefora de las rosas. For twenty-three years, rain or shine, she has sold
single roses from a metal cart for $2 each.
I first noticed her during my chaotic freshman year in college.Rushing to catch the train one October
day,I tripped over a loose sidewalk brick,dropping my textbooks everywhere.Before I could react,Maria
was beside me,gathering the pages with hands weathered by decades of work."Be careful,my kid,"she said
softly, pressing a rose into my palm(手心).“Today needs beauty.”
That rose sat in a coffee cup on my dormitory desk for weeks. When it withered()I returned to
buy another-and ended up listening to Maria's stories between customers. She had immigrated (
from Colombia at sixteen, raised three children as a single mum,and kept this corner colourful with flowers
even after the increase in rent forced her to close her actual shop.
She laughed, her wrinkles
deepening like sunlit petals(),and pinned it above her usual seat.
Now,as a teacher,I tell my students about the woman who turned a simple street corner into a
sanctuary of kindness.For twenty-three years,she didn't just sell roses-she spread hope,warmth,and the
quiet magic of caring for strangers, proving beauty lives in ordinary hearts.

Currently, most packaging is single-use and is made with plastic materials obtained from
nonrenewable resources like fossil oil that take hundreds of years to break down in the environment. On top
of this, only 9%of plastic is recycled.
28.What does the author try to illustrate by mentioning"the Great Pacific Garbage Patch"in Paragraph 1?
A.The severe plastic pollution.
B.The limits of recycling technology.
C.The improper shopping habits.
D.The promise of renewable resources
29.Why is cellulose essential to Janaswamy's plastic-like bags?
A.It can be found everywhere.
B.It can be recycled from food waste.
C.It helps form strong structures.
D.It breaks down into usable materials.
30.What advantage of the grapevine films does Fennell highlight in the last paragraph?
A.Their low expenses.
B.Their user-friendliness.
C.Their easy production.
D.Their energy-efficiency.

Scientists at Finland's Aalto University have found that using artificial intelligence (Al)almost
removes and reverses the Dunning-Kruger effect,a phenomenon that people who aren't very good at
a given task are overconfident, while people with high ability tend to underestimate their skills.Their
research showed that when using common chatbots to solve problems, everyone (regardless of their skill
level)tended to put too much faith in the quality of the answers, with the most experienced AI users doing
so the most.
In the study, scientists gave 500 subjects logical reasoning tasks, with half allowed to use ChatGPT.
Both groups were later quizzed on both their AI literacy and how well they thought they performed, and
promised extra rewards if they assessed their own performance accurately.
The reasons behind the findings are varied.Because AI users were usually satisfied with their answer
after only one question or prompt ()accepting the answer without further checking or confirmation,
they can be said to have engaged in what Robin Welsch,an Aalto University computer scientist, calls
“cognitive(认知)offloading'”一exploring the question with reduced reflection, and approaching it in a
more“shallow''way
Such less engagement in our own reasoning means we bypass the usual feedback process of critical
thinking, which reduces our ability to assess our performance accurately.Even more revealing was the fact
that we all overestimate our abilities when using AI,regardless of our intelligence, with the gap between
high-and low-skill users reducing. The study owed this to the fact that large language models (LLMs)help
everyone perform better to some degree.Meanwhile, the Aalto team warned of several potential impacts as
AI becomes more widespread.
Firstly, metacognitive accuracy overall might suffer.Without reflecting on results, error checking or
deeper reasoning,we risk weakening our ability to source information reliably, the scientists said in the
study. What's more, the flattening of the Dunning-Kruger Effect will mean we'll all continue to
overestimate our abilities while using Al,with the more AI-literate among us doing so even more-
leading to an increased climate of miscalculated decision-making and a drop in their skills.
32.What did Aalto University researchers discover about AI chatbot use?
A.Low-ability users became less confident.
B.It strengthened the Dunning-Kruger Effect
C.Users generally over-trusted the chatbot's answers.
D.Only beginners often thought highly of their abilities.
33.Which aspect of the research is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.The purpose.
B.The process.
C.The subjects.
D.The findings.

34.Why do the users often overestimate their abilities?
A.LLMs'aid improves users'task performance.
B.Users often skip the process of critical thinking.
C.AI tools contribute to users'metacognitive accuracy.
D.The gap between high-and low-skill AI users is bridged.
35.What will be probably talked about in the following paragraph?
A.Regulations for narrowing AI users'skill gap
B.Guidelines for sourcing information reliably
C.Methods for preventing users'cognitive decline.
D.Tips for improving the subjects'performance.

Scientific literacy refers to the ability to understand, interpret and evaluate scientific information. It
enables people to grasp how and why things work the way they do.36Here are some ways to
improve scientific literacy:
Fight misinformation.
Science education is essential to fighting misinformation.37 Without this ability, they're
more likely to take untrue or science illiterate alternatives at face value. This has led to people outright
denying the reality of climate change and global warming.Teaching people how to identify reliable
information can prevent such misconceptions.
38
People are more likely to achieve scientific literacy when they see it has practical value. So show them
how an increased understanding of science can boost economic productivity, increase personal well-being.
improve professional development, and have a positive general impact on their everyday lives.
Specify needed skills.
39 To make learning more manageable,it's important to break these down into smaller,
digestible components. For example, show people how to form a hypothesis(),conduct an experiment
using the scientific method,or read through a science paper and evaluate its truthfulness.
Take a wide-angle view.

My name is Mae.I've always been passionate about exploring and solving problems-whether fixing
a broken toy or figuring out how a phone app works. This led me to join our school's Coding (Club.
In our first lesson,Ms.Davis told us that coding is more than writing lines of code.It is about using
technology to make life easier for others.
"Your project,"she announced in class one day,"is to create a simple app that solves a real-life
problem. You have one week to prepare,"She added gently, hoping this would give us enough time to find
inspiration and finish the project.
The challenge stayed with me as I walked to my neighbor Mrs.Thompson's apartment after school.
She had invited me for tea,as she often did on Tuesdays.Mrs.Thompson was kind and cheerful, but lately
she had been a little forgetful, often misplacing her keys or repeating the same story twice without realizing
it.When I arrived,she was in the kitchen.
"Mae!Good timing,"she greeted me warmly,and then stopped,glancing at the kettle."Did I already
boil water for tea?
I checked the kettle-it was still warm.We laughed about it as I poured water, and soon we were
chatting. Our conversation turned to her weekly book club with friends.Mrs.Thompson smiled, talking
about her two old friends.Mr.Brown arrived late for the game, and Mrs.Smith failed to bring her glasses
twice..“We're quite a group,”she said.
Then her expression grew thoughtful."We manage,of course.But sometimes I think-wouldn't it be
nice if something simply reminds us?Take medicine.Water the plants.Friday for book club."She tapped
her head with a soft laugh.
Her words sank in.At that moment,an idea formed in my mind.As I stood up to leave,I smiled
mysteriously,"Give me a few days,and I'll bring you a little surprise."
“Oh?I'll try not to forget that,.”she laughed.
