VI. 阅读理解(共4篇)
A篇(共6小题;每小题2分,满分12分)
阅读短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
In the cold northern waters of the Atlantic Ocean lives a remarkable creature – the humpback whale. These giant animals can grow up to 16 metres long and weigh as much as 30 tons. Every year, they travel over 8,000 kilometres from their feeding grounds in the north to their breeding grounds in warm southern waters. This journey is one of the longest migrations of any animal on Earth.
Humpback whales are famous for their beautiful songs. Male whales sing long, complex songs that can last for 20 minutes. These songs travel for hundreds of kilometres through the ocean. Scientists believe the songs are used to attract female whales and communicate with other males. Each group of whales has its own unique song, which changes slowly over time.
Unfortunately, humpback whales face many dangers. For hundreds of years, they were hunted for their oil and meat. By the 1960s, their numbers had dropped by more than 90 percent. In 1966, an international agreement made it illegal to hunt them. Since then, their population has slowly recovered. Today, there are about 80,000 humpback whales in the world's oceans.
However, new threats have appeared. Ship strikes kill many whales each year. Ocean noise from boats and industrial activities interferes with their ability to communicate. Fishing nets can trap and drown them. Climate change is also affecting the tiny creatures they eat.
Dr Emily Carter, a marine biologist, has studied humpback whales for fifteen years. "These animals are incredibly intelligent," she says. "They use bubbles to create nets that trap fish. A mother whale teaches her calf how to hunt and migrate. When I first watched them work together, I was amazed by their teamwork."
Conservation groups are working to protect whales in many ways. They have created special shipping lanes to reduce ship strikes. They are also developing quieter boat engines. Some organisations use satellites to track whale movements and warn ships in the area. Tourists can now go on responsible whale-watching trips, which provide money for conservation without harming the animals.
"We have made progress, but there is still much to do," says Dr Carter. "Every whale saved is a hope for our oceans."

D篇:回答问题(共4小题;每小题1分,满分4分)
阅读短文,用完整句子回答下列问题。
Coral reefs are often called the "rainforests of the sea" because they support so many different kinds of life. Although they cover less than one percent of the ocean floor, about 25 percent of all marine species live in or around coral reefs. Fish, sea turtles, sharks, and many other creatures depend on reefs for food and shelter.
Corals are actually tiny animals called polyps. Thousands of polyps live together and build hard skeletons from calcium carbonate. Over hundreds of years, these skeletons form large underwater structures that we call reefs. The bright colours of coral reefs come from algae that live inside the polyps. The algae provide food for the corals, and the corals provide a safe home for the algae.
Unfortunately, coral reefs are in great danger. Rising ocean temperatures cause corals to expel the algae living in them. This is called coral bleaching. Without the algae, the corals turn white and begin to die. Ocean pollution, especially plastic waste, also harms reefs. Some fishing methods, such as using dynamite, destroy large areas of reef in seconds.
Scientists are working hard to save coral reefs. In many countries, marine protected areas have been established where fishing is restricted. Some scientists are growing corals in underwater nurseries and then planting them onto damaged reefs. Others are developing corals that can better survive in warmer water. Tourists can help by choosing reef-friendly sunscreen and not touching the corals when they swim.
"Coral reefs are not just beautiful," says marine scientist Dr Lee. "They protect coastlines from storms and provide food for millions of people. Saving them is not only about nature. It is about our own future."

VIII. 书信或邮件写作(参考范文)
Dear Peter,
I'm writing to share my experience of joining an environmental speech contest at school. The topic was "Protecting Our Environment – Everyone's Responsibility". I talked about how pollution is harming our planet and why it's important for each of us to take action. I felt nervous at first, but my teacher encouraged me to speak from my heart. Many students were inspired by my speech. This experience taught me that protecting the environment is not only about big actions – small daily habits matter too. I believe we all share the responsibility to create a better future.
What do you think about environmental protection? Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
