M: I can hear 100 compliments and a single abuse, and what do I remember? The abuse. Unfortunately, the human brain always focuses on the negative. So how can we fight the brain’s negative bias? One of the best weapons is gratitude. So I started a project “Thanks a Thousand”. I learned dozens of lessons, but let me just focus on four today. Firstly, look up. I met a cashier Chung in a coffee shop. Chung said that the hardest part of her job is when customers don’t respect her at all. Because they’ll hand her their credit cards without looking up from their phones. So I’m going to take those two seconds, look at them and make eye contact when dealing with people. Alright, secondly, smell the roses and the dirt. I thanked this man, Ed Kaufmann. Inspired by Ed, I decided to really let the coffee sit on my tongue for five seconds. Gratitude is about taking a moment and holding on to it as long as possible. Thirdly, find the hidden masterpieces all around you. Now, one of my favorite conversations was with the guy who invented my coffee cup lid, Doug Fleming. And finally, the last lesson I want to tell you is: practice six degrees of gratitude. My hope is that we use gratitude as a flame to action. Thank you a thousand for listening to my story.

Dr. Fritz Jones is an astronaut doctor working at an international space center. Since he was a kid, he has always wanted to be a doctor and a pilot. His dream came true when he was admitted into the Space Center after he graduated from a medical college.
Before he started his work, he received six months of extra training to learn about how flying affects human body. “It’s not just about feeling light or having your ears pop,” he explained. “Flying can make us feel uncomfortable, affect our thinking and even change how medicines work inside our body.” What’s more, astronaut doctors like him are expected to fly as well. Therefore, he also has had the experience of flying different types of helicopters and airplanes.
Now, Dr. Jones is taking care of astronauts when they get sick or injured. While astronauts are in space, there are additional effects on their bodies, such as zero gravity. They may feel seasick during their first few days in space due to the effects on their balance system. Besides, spacewalks also present unique medical concerns. As a result, their health conditions are closely monitored and taken care of by Dr. Jones and his medical team. At the same time, the team conduct regular check-ups and provide medical advice if needed. After returning to Earth, astronauts need doctors to help them with their health problems caused by space travel.
Dr. Jones finds his job extremely cool, as he helps prepare individuals to travel to space, takes care of them while they are out there, and welcomes them back home. And now he even works with engineers to design spacecrafts to ensure astronauts travel to and return from space safely. Maybe one day he will become an astronaut himself!

Beijing, October 18 — Yang Zhenning, a world-famous physicist, Nobel Prize winner, and professor at Tsinghua University, passed away in Beijing on October 18 due to illness. He was 103 years old.
Yang was born in Hefei, Anhui Province, in 1922. When he was 13, after reading a book about the universe, he told his parents, “I want to win the Nobel Prize one day”. This “bold dream” came true when he was 35. In 1957, he and Li Zhengdao won the Nobel Prize in Physics for discovering that parity is not conserved in weak interactions. It was a revolutionary finding that changed how scientists understand the universe.
His most important work, however, was the “Yang-Mills gauge Theory” proposed in 1954 with Mills. This theory is like a “foundation stone” of modern physics, similar to Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. Later, he also found the “Yang-Baxter Equation,” opening new paths for scientific research.
Yang loved his motherland deeply. In 1971, when China and the US started to build better ties, he became the first famous Chinese scholar to visit China. He was so moved to learn China made its atomic bomb by itself that he cried. Back in the US, he talked about China’s progress everywhere, encouraging many Chinese scholars to come back.
In 1999, he returned to Tsinghua University to teach. Even in his 80s, he still gave lessons to first-year students. He raised money to help Chinese scientists study abroad and set up research centers in many universities. In 2015, he gave up his US citizenship and became a Chinese Academy of Sciences member.
“He is like a circle,” people said. “He started in Tsinghua Garden, went to the world stage, and finally came home.” Yang Zhenning’s life tells us: with passion for science and love for our country, we can achieve great things.
28. What is the main purpose of this article?
A. To explain Yang Zhenning’s scientific theories
B. To report Yang Zhenning’s death and summarize his life
C. To compare Yang Zhenning with other physicists
D. To criticize American science policies
29. When did Yang Zhenning win the Nobel Prize?
A. 1922 B. 1954 C. 1957 D. 1971
30. What does “foundation stone” mean in paragraph 3?
A. A heavy rock used in construction B. A basic principle that supports other ideas
C. A type of scientific equipment D. A simple concept that anyone can understand
31. What does the “circle” suggest about Yang’s life?
A. He traveled around the world. B. His life had no clear direction.
C. He liked circular shapes. D. He returned to where he began.
B 29. C 30. B 31. D
根据第一段“Beijing, October 18 — Yang Zhenning, a world-famous physicist, Nobel Prize winner, and professor at Tsinghua University, passed away in Beijing on October 18 due to illness. He was 103 years old.(北京,10月18日——杨振宁,一位享誉全球的物理学家、诺贝尔奖得主以及清华大学教授,于10月18日在北京因病去世。他享年103岁)”以及文章开头报道了杨振宁去世的消息,随后回顾了他的生平、科学成就、爱国情怀以及晚年回国任教等经历。全文以“报道逝世”为引,重点在于“总结他的一生”,可知,这篇文章的主要目的是报道杨振宁的逝世并概述其生平。故选B。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“In 1957, he and Li Zhengdao won the Nobel Prize in Physics for discovering that parity is not conserved in weak interactions.(1957年,他与李政道因发现弱相互作用中宇称不守恒,共同荣获诺贝尔物理学奖)”可知,杨振宁是在1957年获得诺贝尔物理学奖。
根据第三段“This theory is like a “foundation stone” of modern physics, similar to Einstein’s Theory of Relativity.(这一理论就像是现代物理学的“基石”,与爱因斯坦的相对论类似)”可知,文章将“杨-米尔斯理论”比作现代物理学的“基石”,并将其与爱因斯坦的“相对论”相提并论。
根据最后一段“He started in Tsinghua Garden, went to the world stage, and finally came home.(他从清华起步,走向了世界舞台,最终又回到了家乡)”可知,他的人生轨迹像一个圆圈:从清华出发,走向世界,最终回到原点,即,回国。故选D。
D
Two small white dogs appeared as I arrived at a ranch house a few miles off the highway in Hempstead, followed by John Mendola, a retired police officer. He introduced me to the dogs, Princess Ariel and Princess Jasmine. They were named for a deceased dog named Princess to whom they are similar in every detail. And they should be: they are Princess’s clones.
It has now been nearly thirty years since cloning mammals (哺乳动物) became possible. The technology has mainly been used to produce cattle, sheep, and pigs. However, since 2005, more than two thousand dogs have been successfully cloned. Biologically, it is not very different from that of cloned cows or sheep, but in other respects the cloning of pets raises a host of ethical (伦理的) and identity issues.
There are issues of exploitation (剥削) — both of grieving owners who hope to bring back their lost pets, and of the unseen animals whose bodies are used in making a clone. There’s the issue of supply: the production of tailored dogs in a society when so many good, naturally born ones in shelters are in need of adoption. Finally, there’s an existential issue: who, exactly, is produced when a dog is cloned? Dogs are seen by most owners as a species of individuals, with distinct personalities. We keep them for companionship. As a result, we have placed our ideas of selfhood onto them, giving them preferences, fears, and moods. But, if it is dogs’ individuality that we value, how can we accept the idea that their unique and unreproducible selves can, in fact, be reproduced?
As a matter of fact, among the people who have cloned their dogs, many struggled to say exactly what it was about the original animal that they had wanted to reproduce, especially in contrast to other dogs they had loved but hadn’t felt like cloning. Many spoke of the original as simply “special” — but the specific nature of that specialness seemed almost impossible to be explained. Perhaps the desire was less about re-creating the original dog than about bringing back the unique relationship that had been established with the animal.
32. What can we learn about the two white dogs in the first paragraph?
A. They were named after a princess. B. They were clones of a late dog.
C. They were distinct from each other. D. They were naturally produced by Princess.
33. How is the cloning of dogs different from that of other mammals?
A. It has higher success rates. B. It raises more moral concerns.
C. It is technically more challenging. D. It stirs greater public curiosity.
34. Which word best describes the author’s attitude to the cloning of dogs?
A. Unclear. B. Objective. C. Favourable. D. Disapproving.
35. Why do people desire to clone their dogs?
A. To deal with the identity issue. B. To reproduce the original animal.
C. To recreate a distinctive emotional bond. D. To find out the specialness of the original dog.
B 33. B 34. D 35. C
由第一段中“He introduced me to the dogs, Princess Ariel and Princess Jasmine. They were named for a deceased dog named Princess to whom they are similar in every detail. And they should be: they are Princess’s clones. (他把我介绍给狗狗们,爱丽儿公主和茉莉公主。它们以一只名叫公主的已故的狗命名,在每个细节上都与公主相似。它们应该是:它们是公主的克隆体)”可知,第一段中的两只白狗,是一只已故狗的克隆体。故选B项。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。由第二段中“Biologically, it is not very different from that of cloned cows or sheep, but in other respects the cloning of pets raises a host of ethical (伦理的) and identity issues. (从生物学上讲,它与克隆的奶牛或绵羊没有太大区别,但在其他方面,克隆宠物会引发一系列伦理和身份问题)”可知,克隆狗与其他哺乳动物的不同之处在于它们会引发更多的道德问题。故选B项。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。由第三段讲对狗的克隆产生的伦理问题和身份问题的分析和最后一段中“As a matter of fact, among the people who have cloned their dogs, many struggled to say exactly what it was about the original animal that they had wanted to reproduce, especially in contrast to other dogs they had loved but hadn’t felt like cloning. (事实上,在克隆狗的人中,许多人很难准确说出他们想要繁殖的原始动物是什么,尤其是与他们喜欢的狗相比,他们并不想克隆)”可知,作者对此持不赞成的态度。故选D项。
【35题详解】
细节理解题。由最后一段中“Perhaps the desire was less about re-creating the original dog than about bringing back the unique relationship that had been established with the animal. (也许这种愿望与其说是为了重新创造原始的狗,不如说是为了恢复与动物建立的独特关系)”可知,人们渴望克隆狗是为了重建与原有动物独特的情感联系。故选C项。

And the experiments and measurements of bone strength and bone loss in astronauts have helped doctors better understand bone diseases. 对宇航员骨骼强度和骨质流失的实验和测量帮助医生更好地了解骨骼疾病)”具体介绍了太空探索对医疗发展的帮助,因此F项“The medical benefits of space exploration reach every area of the human body.
根据第一段中“The benefits of space, including medical, technological and economic benefits, are more than the dangers of it. (太空探索带来的益处,包括医疗、技术和经济益处,大于其危险)”可推知,空处的益处与技术相关,后文“The space race has led to technological advancements in the shortest period of time, such a vacuum-sealed (真空密封的) food, fireproof materials and modern vacuum cleaners. Today, we still use them in our daily lives. (太空竞赛在最短的时间内带来了技术进步,真空密封食品、防火材料和现代真空吸尘器。今天,我们仍然在日常生活中使用它们)”也主要介绍太空探索对科技发展的帮助,因此B项“Development of new technologies. (开发新技术)”符合语境,契合段落内容,其中的technologies呼应第一段和后文的technological。故选B。
【39题详解】
前文“Today, we still use them in our daily lives. Yet, we even don’t know that some NASA engineers originally developed them for the Apollo program that took humankind to the moon. (今天,我们仍然在日常生活中使用它们。然而,我们甚至不知道一些美国宇航局的工程师最初是为阿波罗计划开发的,该计划将人类带到了月球)”说明太空探索带来的技术发展对人们的生活有帮助,后文“Who knows what kind of new technologies could be developed that will make our lives easier in the future? (谁知道未来会开发出什么样的新技术,让我们的生活更轻松呢)”以问题的形式期待未来太空探索带来的新技术,因此D项“As you can see, it is important for us to keep pushing the limits of space exploration. (正如你所看到的,对我们来说不断挑战太空探索的极限是很重要的)”符合语境,指出太空探索的重要性,对前文进行了总结,过渡到后文的问题。故选D。
【40题详解】
前文“Although these positions require highly qualified people to fill them, they are some of the highest-paid jobs in the market. (虽然这些职位需要高素质的人才来填补,但它们是市场上收入最高的工作之一)”说明太空探索需要的人才收入很高,因此E项“So the growing space industry creates high-paid jobs. (因此,不断发展的航天工业创造了高薪工作)”符合语境,总结航天工业带来高薪工作,承接前文,其中的high-paid和前文的highest-paid呼应。故选E。

【答案】范文:
Dear Editor,
To build us up, our school has organized running exercise during the break.
However, we students have different opinions about it. Many of the students are in favor of this program. They think running is a good way to build them up. Besides, it can help them to relax and relieve the pressures of study. However, other students think differently. They claim that they feel very tired after running, so they have difficulty concentrating on their lessons. In addition, they sweat so heavily after running that it is easy to catch a cold.
I think it’s beneficial for students to take regular physical exercise because they spend most of their time sitting in the classroom. Running is an effective way to keep fit. However, other ways of exercising should be provided for students, too. Do you agree with me?

“Class, we have an exciting project to talk about,” Mrs. Garcia said, “Our school is going to raise money for the big spring trip. And the third and fourth grades are going to put on a talent show!”
All the kids made sounds as if they thought a talent show was exciting news, except me. After school, I thought about the talent show and about me being the only one without any talents. I went to my mom and asked for her advice.
“Let’s see. You’re good at math, obviously. You’re really good at having new ideas. And you ask the most interesting questions,” she said. “Mom,” I reminded her. “None of these can be performed on a stage.” In the following days, I tried everything for the show but failed.
When the final rehearsal (排练) began, I walked into the hall and tried to hide, but Mrs. Garcia saw me. She whispered in Mrs. Rice’s ear, who nodded in agreement, and then called me over. “Clementine, you can keep us company during the rehearsal,” she said. So I had to sit between Mrs. Rice and Mrs. Garcia, right there at the side of the stage where all the kids could see me and know that I had no talent.
The first act was called Cartwheelers. Twelve kids lined up, six on each side of the stage. When I noticed there were no safety mats (垫子), I ran into the gym, pulled out a mat, and placed it on the floor in front of the stage. Then I got some kids to help me. Pretty soon, we had all the mats piled up (堆起). Mrs. Rice gave me a thumbs-up. I didn’t even get a chance to sit down again for the rest of the afternoon because everybody needed my help for something. Finally, after everyone practiced their acts, I went over to Mrs. Rice, who showed me her watch and then called out, “Take your places, everyone. Five minutes to ShowTime!”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Just then, Mrs. Garcia got a phone call — her daughter was having a baby. After a quick word with Mrs. Rice, she rushed off at lightning speed. Then Mrs. Rice turned to me and said, “Now you have to be my assistant.” And that’s when I realized I didn’t have a worried feeling anymore. Instead, I had a proud feeling, like the sun was rising inside my chest. The feeling stayed with me all through the rest of the show. And no matter what went wrong, Mrs. Rice and I just fixed it. When the last act was over, the audience kept smiling and clapping.
At the end, when Mrs. Rice went onstage to thank everyone, I thought my job was done — until she said my name. “And a special thanks to our backstage manager, Clementine, whose quick thinking and tireless help made this show run smoothly!” she announced. A wave of applause washed over me. In that moment, I understood what my mom meant. My talent wasn’t for performing on the stage; it was for seeing what needed to be done and making it happen. The rising sun inside my chest burst into a full, warm glow. I finally had my place in the spotlight, just not the one I had originally imagined.

24. What drove Dr. Jones to become an astronaut doctor?
A. His childhood dream. B. His medical knowledge.
C. His desire to travel in space. D. His achievements in college.
25. What did Dr. Jones do before starting his work?
A. He received medical treatments. B. He practised spacewalking skills.
C. He learned the influence of flying. D. He joined an international space club.
26. What is the main duty of Dr. Jones and his team?
A. Training astronauts for spacewalks. B. Managing astronauts’health conditions.
C. Conducting medical experiments in space. D. Working with engineers to design spacecrafts.
27. What does Dr. Jones think of his job?
A. Satisfying. B. Challenging. C. Annoying. D. Relaxing.

Unfortunately, the human brain always focus is on the negative. So how can we fight the brain's negative bias? One of the best weapons is gratitude. So I started a project. Thanks a thousand. I learned dozens of lessons. But let me just focus on four today. Firstly, look up. I met a cashier, chung, in a coffee shop. Chung said that the hardest part of her job is when customers don't respect her at all because they're hand her their credit cards without looking up from their phones. So i'm going to take those two seconds, look at them and make eye contact when dealing with people. All right. Secondly, smell the roses and the dirt. I thanked this man, ed cowman. Inspired by ed, I decided to really let the coffee sit on my tongue for five seconds. Gratitude is about taking a moment and holding onto IT as long as possible. Thirdly, find the hidden masterpiece all around you. Now, one of my favorite conversations was with the guy who invented my coffee company, doug flemming. And finally, the last lesson I want to tell you is practice six degrees of gratitude. My hope is that we use gratitude as a flame to action. Thank you a thousand for listening to my story.
