Firstly, fixed daily exercise periods should be arranged after class, during which students will be
organized by class to ensure regular participation.Secondly,we can hold a variety of sports activities,
including jogging, badminton, rope skipping and team ball games, catering to different interests. In

Maya asked,"Would you like to join me?"Jane nodded excitedly, eyes sparkling with
eagerness, immediately agreeing to help bring the idea to life. They devoted every free moment to
the project, driven by Maya's firm belief that technology should solve real-life problems. They
installed distance sensors in the bins, tested their accuracy in different weather conditions, and coded
the app with different clear colors.Although encountering some technical difficulties, they refused to
give up,staying late in the lab patiently to adjust repeatedly. After weeks of hard work, they
eventually succeeded.Maya couldn't wait to install a custom mobile app for Mr.Davis.
Afew weeks later,Mr.Davis came to thank them. With sincere gratitude,"Your smart system
has completely changed my work!"he said with a relieved and delighted look. The app's real-time
data let him skip half-empty bins and focus only on overflowing ones, cutting his heavy workload by
half. The campus stayed clean and tidy all day,and students spoke highly of the pleasant
environment.Their project also became a model for how small tech innovations could improve daily
life.Maya felt deeply proud, knowing her passion for technology had truly made a practical
difference, just as she had always believed.

Somewhere between 5%and 7%of U.S.households have rooftop solar panels.Many
more Americans would like to install (them, but the obstacles remain, including
unsuitable building conditions,restrictions from landlords,and especially high costs.As a
result, many households have turned to plug-in solar systems as a simpler alternative.
●Introduction
Plug-in solar systems, known as balcony solar systems, generate electricity from sunlight
without the need for complex or expensive installation.Small-scale plug-in systems can be
placed on a balcony,in the front or backyard,or on a roof deck.
●Adoption in the U.S.
Plug-in solar systems have not yet been widely adopted across the U.S.largely because
many states still have unnecessary interconnection regulations.Utah was the first state to pass
a law reducing such restrictions and making plug-in systems easier for consumers to use.
●Costs and benefits
Although plug-in solar systems cannot power an entire home, they can provide electricity
for basic household appliances.Adding battery storage to plug-in solar systems can also help
households store extra energy generated during the day and use it at night, further reducing
their electricity bills. The cost of installing the system can often be paid back over time
through lower electricity bills

Andrea Speranza wanted to be a firefighter long before she had the right word for her
wish. After one childhood adventure at a construction site ended with an iron nail stuck in her
leg and an emergency call to the fire department, she found herself in awe."As they gave me
the medical treatment,I thought they could help everybody,"says the now 52-year-old
In 2000,Andrea Speranza achieved her dream of becoming a firefighter, joining the
Halifax Regional Fire Service. Her job was exactly as satisfying as she imagined it would be,
except for one thing:she still hadn't seen another woman in her role-not in magazines,on
television,or in real life.Speranza decided that she wanted to change the situation by helping
young women to see that they, too, could have a career like hers.
The result was Camp Courage,a program for girls aged 15 to 19 who want to learn more
about firefighting. In 2006,Speranza and about 20 volunteers welcomed their first 17
participants, attracting attendees through advertising in schools.Over the course of eight days,
the girls learned how to put out fires, deliver first aid and even use the jaws of life in a car
Camp Courage now runs one session every year in Halifax and is free to attend. To offset
costs,Speranza and her fellow campers fundraise by holding everything from car washes to
comedy nights.Hopeful campers must also submit an essay describing how to help their
community,or a specific individual in need. And they have to deliver on their plan-from
building a bench for a senior at a bus stop to launching a local chapter of the Kids Help Phone.
Hundreds of girls have passed through Camp Courage, and 36 percent are doing exactly
what 52-year-old Speranza hoped they would:working as first responders across the country.

A new study shows that large language models fed a diet of popular but low-quality social
media content experience a kind of "brain rot",such as reduced reasoning abilities and
degraded memory-symptoms familiar to anyone spending too much time staring at screens
and looking through meaningless information on social media.
"We live in an age when much information is engineered to capture clicks, not convey
truth or depth,"says Junyuan Hong,a professor at the National University of Singapore who
worked on the study."We wondered:What will happen when AI models are trained with the
same stuff?”
Hong and his colleagues fed different kinds of text to two open source large language
models in pretraining. They examined what happened when the models were fed a mix of
highly "engaging,"or widely shared, social media posts and ones that contained striking or
hyped(炒作t的)text like“wow,”or "today only.”Then they used several different standards to
evaluate the impact of this "junk"social media diet on two open source models:Meta's Llama
and Alibaba's Qwen.
The models fed junk text experienced a kind of AI brain rot.The results are important for
the AI industry,Hong says, because model-builders might assume that social media posts are a
good source of training data for their models. These findings mirror research on human
subjects, which shows that low-quality online content has a harmful effect on people's
cognitive abilities. The wide spread of the phenomenon witnessed "brain rot"named as the
Oxford Dictionary word of the year 2024.
The researchers also found that models damaged by low-quality content could not easily
be improved through retraining."As more AI-generated junk spreads across social media,it
influences the very data future models will learn from,"Hong says."Our findings show that
once this kind of brain rot'sets in,subsequent clean training cannot completely remove its
bad influence."
28.What does "brain rot"refer to in paragraph 1?
A.A symptom of screen addiction.
B.A trend in digital entertainment.
C.A decline in mental capabilities
D.A spread of meaningless information
29.What is the purpose of this study?
A.To compare two models'ability to write text.
B.To set new standards for regulating online content.
C.To explore ways to help AI capture internet clicks.
D.To assess the effect of low-quality input on AI.
30.What do Hong's research findings suggest?
A.AI brain rot can hardly be eliminated later.
B.Retraining AI can fully repair its former damage.
C.Future AI models will avoid AI-generated junk
D.Social media posts mislead AI model training
31.What is the author's attitude towards "brain rot'?
A.Concerned.
B.Dismissive.
C.Neutral
D.Favorable.

Synthetic materials are widely used across various fields, but most are designed
to perform only a narrow range of tasks.Led by Hongtao Sun,assistant professor at Penn State.
a research team set out to change that by developing a new technique producing
multifunctional "smart synthetic skin."
Octopuses (can rapidly alter the look and surface of their skin, which is a capability
scientists have long tried to copy in man-made materials. These animals use such changes to
integrate into their surroundings or communicate with one another.Sun noted that the creature
inspired them to develop a soft synthetic material with similar features through
halftone-encoded 4D printing technology.
To realize this idea, the team transformed image information and data collected from
octopuses into digital codes.By putting the digital instructions into the hydrogel (film,
researchers could control how the encoded material changed its shape in response to different
conditions. This 4D printing technology finally led to the birth of a programmable smart skin
with various functions.
One eye-catching feature of the material is its ability to hide and reveal visual information.
To demonstrate this, the team put an image of the Mona Lisa into the film.It showed no visible
image at first. But when the film was placed into ice water or gradually heated, the hidden
image became clear.Besides visual switching, the smart skin also boasts impressive
shape-changing performance. The team made flat films with the Mona Lisa image that could
later turn into three-dimensional forms. As the films curved, the hidden image slowly appeared,
showing that changes in shape and visual appearance could occur at the same time within one
material.
"This interdisciplinary research at the intersection of intelligent materials and mechanics
opens new opportunities with broad implications for various fields like soft robotics and
biomedical devices,"Sun said.Although it has not yet reached the market on a large scale,it
holds great promise for future applications.
32.What inspiration did octopuses offer the researchers?
A.Flexible outer surface structure.
B.Unique physical appearance.
C.Adaptive skin-changing ability.
D.Mutual communication skills
33.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.Research tools.
B.Research process.
C.Design concept
D.Practical application
34.Why did the researchers use the Mona Lisa image in the experiments?
A.To demonstrate the effect of 3D forms.
B.To test the properties of the smart skin.
C.To evaluate the artistic value of the image.
D.To highlight the differences of two features
35.What can be inferred about the research according to the last paragraph?
A.It might revolutionize smart devices.
B.It may dominate the materials market.
C.It could facilitate mechanical development.
D.It will drive progress across multiple fields.

Maya was the kind of student who was passionate about computers and technology.
While her classmates used their free time to scroll through social media or chat in the cafeteria,
Maya was usually in the school's computer lab, developing apps or building small electronic
devices. She firmly believed that technology's true pupose was to solve everyday problems.
One windy Tuesday,as Maya walked across the main school courtyard, she noticed a
common frustrating issue:the campus was littered with rubbish from overflowing bins.A
sudden gust of wind blew empty chip bags and paper cups across the grass.Nearby,Mr.Davis,
the school's dedicated cleaner, was tiredly emptying a trash bin that was barely half-full,
completely unaware of an overflowing one located just around the corner.
On seeing that,Maya hurried over to help him pick up the trash.Wiping sweat from his
forehead,Mr.Davis sighed,"With over fifty bins across the campus,I spend half my day
checking empty ones, completely missing the ones that actually need immediate attention."
Suddenly, she recalled a recent computer science project in which she and her friend Jane
had experimented with remote sensors."What if the trash bins could directly send a message
to the cleaner?"she wondered.
The next day,Maya couldn't wait to share her idea with Jane. She wanted to make a
smart"trash system by putting small sensors inside the bins. These sensors would measure
the trash level and send real-time data to a tailored mobile app.The app would show a map of
the school with different colors for the bins:green for empty, yellow for half-full,and red for
completely full. This new system would save alot of time and keep the school much cleaner.
"Do you really think you can make something like that?"Jane asked, her face lighting up
with a mixture of surprise and hope."I'm definitely going to try,"Maya promised, her eyes
shining with determination.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
