My husband went to a friend’s party, leaving me home alone. It was a Friday night, and with nothing planned, I turned to my porcelain (瓷器) collection. It needed rearranging. My goal was to create a display that was not only pleasing to me but also appealing to others.
That task consumed a great deal of time. The next morning when my husband arrived home, I hardly noticed. I was fully engaged in selecting pieces that needed to be moved around to show them to the best effect. Time flew by, and I didn’t realize it then, because I was in the “flow”.
The concept of flow applies to many activities we enjoy in life, but it’s particularly relevant to collectors who can lose themselves in their collections in various ways. Flow is defined as a mental state in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed (沉浸) in a feeling of energized focus, complete involvement, and enjoyment in the activity process. Art collecting can be deeply engaging and fulfilling, making it an ideal candidate for experiencing flow. This hobby is rich with opportunities for the appreciation of beauty, organization, and intellectual stimulation. The characteristics agree perfectly with the characteristics of flow, which overall enhance our well-being and life satisfaction.
When I finally stood that morning, surrounded by my rearranged treasures, I realized something profound. My husband’s laughter at my messy appearance and the unsteady teacups on the bookshelf wasn’t just amusement — it was a witness to transformation. “You look like a time traveler,” he said. Indeed, I had journeyed through centuries of craftsmanship (工艺), across cultures, into that rare space where time disappears into pure presence.
In our age of digital distraction, where tasks multiply but satisfaction decreases, my night with the porcelain reminded me of a simple truth: real satisfaction comes from being fully present in what we love. Those quiet hours of rearranging the porcelain were more than just organizing objects — they were an invitation to slow down, to connect with beauty and history, and to rediscover the joy of complete focus.
41. What happened to the author while rearranging the porcelain collection?
A. She kept checking the clock to ensure progress.
B. She experienced conflicts with her husband.
C. She was too absorbed to notice anything else.
D. She worked out a way to promote her efficiency.
42. Which of the following are the characteristics of “flow”?
①Complete involvement in an activity.
②Being in a focused and energetic state.
③Feeling pressured to finish tasks quickly.
④Finding enjoyment in the process.
⑤Being aware of changes in the surroundings.
A. ①②④ B. ②③④ C. ①④⑤ D. ②③⑤
43. The author’s husband said the author looked like “a time traveler” because ________.
A. she was dressed in old-fashioned clothes
B. she was mentally connected with historical objects
C. she accidentally mixed pieces from different eras
D. she worked continuously through the night
44. What does the author intend to tell us in the last paragraph?
A. We should pursue more productive tasks.
B. Art collecting helps us solve modern anxieties.
C. Traditional hobbies are losing their value.
D. We should fully engage in what we love.
45. What might be the best title for the text?
A. Finding Joy in Focus: My “Flow” Experience
B. My Time Travel with Porcelain One Day
C. My Reflection on Art Collections
D. Enjoying the Art of Porcelain: A Personal Story
41. C 42. A 43. B 44. D 45. A

故选A项。
C
It seems like there are fast food drive-thrus on every corner, and certain cities are taking steps to make sure that drive-thrus don’t get any more prevalent (普遍的) than they already are. Long Beach and Minneapolis became two latest cities that have passed a by-laws (地方性法规) to achieve this goal, while the existing drive-thru windows are here to stay, as long as they’re profitable.
Officials in Minneapolis claim that people who wait in their cars for their food release more carbon emissions into the environment than those who park and eat inside. That’s why the ban is part of the city’s long-term plan called Minneapolis 2040, which includes a goal to cut 80% of carbon emissions by 2050.
While those improvements are certainly beneficial to the planet and its inhabitants, there’s more at play. In a 2018 study analyzing drive-thru bans in 27 Canadian cities, researchers noted, “Health promotion and chronic (慢性的) disease prevention are public health gains from the implementation of fast food drive-through service by-laws.”
As the study mentioned, in South Los Angeles, where an estimated 45% of the 900 restaurants in the area served fast food and almost 37% of adults and 30% of children were overweight, by-laws like Minneapolis’ are urgently needed.
Roland Sturm, a senior economist, explains, “Supporters of the bans often emphasize their potential health benefits, but there is no evidence to back up those claims.” He mentioned obesity rates went up, not down, after South Los Angeles banned new stand-alone fast food restaurants. “If we want to lower obesity, these bans are actually overstated,” Sturm says.
Besides, such bans are not meant to abolish fast food. In the absence of a drive-thru option, customers might order their dinner through an app like UberEats. Hank Cardello, director of the Hudson Institute’s Food Policy Center, warns that attempting to address obesity with legislation is a supersize task.
Meanwhile, there are other cities following Minneapolis’ example. It seems that pulling into the drive-through lane to order burgers is getting harder and harder.
46. What’s the shared aim of Long Beach and Minneapolis?
A. To shut down loss-making drive-thrus.
B. To restrict investments in the food industry.
C. To boost the profit of the drive-thru business.
D. To ban the opening of new fast food drive-thrus.
47. What caused Minneapolis’ officials to pass the by-law?
A. Drive-thrus’ low working efficiency.
B. The abundance of public parking areas.
C. Drive-thrus’ harmful environmental impact.
D. The popularity of ordering food from mobile apps.
48. How can the by-laws benefit people according to the 2018 study?
A. By improving the nutrition of fast food.
B. By making fast food restaurants more reachable.
C. By increasing the insurance on chronic diseases.
D. By motivating them to make healthier food choices.
49. How does Roland Sturm sound regarding the by-law?
A. Appreciative. B. Negative.
C. Neutral. D. Supportive.
50. What can be the best title of the text?
A. Will fast food drive-thrus come to an end?
B. Fast food drive-thrus are often double-edged
C. Will drive-thrus get prevalent again in the US?
D. A new challenge appears in the US food industry
D 47. C 48. D 49. B 50. A
根据第一段“It seems like there are fast food drive-thrus on every corner, and certain cities are taking steps to make sure that drive-thrus don’t get any more prevalent (普遍的) than they already are. Long Beach and Minneapolis became two latest cities that have passed a by-laws (地方性法规) to achieve this goal, while the existing drive-thru windows are here to stay, as long as they’re profitable(如今快餐店的汽车取餐窗口几乎随处可见,部分城市正采取措施,遏制其数量进一步增多。长滩市和明尼阿波利斯市出台地方法规以此为目标,已有且盈利的通道可继续运营。)”可知,两座城市的共同目标是禁止新建快餐汽车穿梭点餐通道。
【47题详解】
细节理解题。 根据第二段“Officials in Minneapolis claim that people who wait in their cars for their food release more carbon emissions into the environment than those who park and eat inside. That’s why the ban is part of the city’s long-term plan called Minneapolis 2040, which includes a goal to cut 80% of carbon emissions by 2050.(明尼阿波利斯的官员声称,坐在车里等待取餐的司机,向环境中排放的碳排放量要高于那些停车进店用餐的人。这就是为什么这项禁令成为了该市名为《明尼阿波利斯2040》长期规划的一部分,该规划设定了一个目标:到2050年将碳排放量减少80%。)”可知,促使官员通过法规的原因是汽车穿梭餐厅对环境的有害影响。
【48题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中的“Health promotion and chronic (慢性的) disease prevention are public health gains from the implementation of fast food drive-through service by-laws.(健康促进和慢性病预防是实施快餐汽车穿梭服务法规带来的公共卫生收益。)”
根据第五段中的“Supporters of the bans often emphasize their potential health benefits, but there is no evidence to back up those claims.(禁令的支持者经常强调其潜在的健康益处,但没有证据支持这些说法。)”以及“If we want to lower obesity, these bans are actually overstated(如果我们想降低肥胖率,这些禁令实际上被夸大了)”可知,罗兰·斯特姆对这项法规持否定态度。
文章围绕多个城市限制免下车窗口的趋势展开,最后一段提到“It seems that pulling into the drive-through lane to order burgers is getting harder and harder.(看来,驱车驶入汽车穿梭车道去订购汉堡变得越来越难了。)” A“Will fast food drive-thrus come to an end?(快餐免下车窗口会走向终结吗?)”
D
Well, research suggests having a messy desk has its benefits and so does a tidy one. While an extremely neat and organized approach to your working environment may indicate higher levels of generosity and conscientiousness (一丝不苟), taking a more relaxed attitude to tidiness may result in higher levels of creativity. At least, that was the conclusion of a paper published in Psychological Science in 2025.
Psychologist Kathleen Vohs and her team completed a series of experiments in contrasting office environments — one that was clean and ordered and another that was chaotic and seemingly disorganized. Participants in the first environment donated more to charity and were more likely to pick healthy snack options. However, those in the messier environments appeared to think outside the box and contribute to more novel ideas when required to identify new uses for a ping-pong ball.
While orderly environments may encourage people to abide by conventions and play it safe, a messier space may “inspire breaking free of tradition”, inspiring “fresh insights”, Vohs concluded.
“The business world is highly focused on enhancing innovation, but our research implies that these goals could be unintentionally restricted by the minimalist (简约主义的) movement,” she wrote. “While cleaning up certainly has its benefits, clean spaces might be too conventional to let inspiration flow.”
Throughout the years, popular studies have connected a number of characteristics and habits to IQ. Indeed, a dark sense of humour, a sensitivity to loud chewing and a preference for cats over dogs (good news for childless cat ladies!) have all been linked to intelligence and/or creativity. So has being a fitness enthusiast and a couch potato — and, yes, we see the ridiculousness and contradiction. So, with this in mind, it might be worth taking them all with some reservations.
But let’s get back to the state of your desk. If it is on the messier side, you are in good company. Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs, and Mark Twain all preferred their workspaces to remain in a state of productive disorder. So, next time your boss accuses you of having a less-than-tidy work surface, you can point out Vohs’ study to them.
51. What does the 2025 paper suggest?
A. Most workers prefer tidy office environments.
B. Both tidy and messy workspaces have their benefits.
C. Messy workspaces are associated with higher stress.
D. Tidy workspaces guarantee professional success.
52. For participants in Vohs and her team’s experiments, untidiness seems to ______.
A. improve focus on details B. promote healthy eating habits
C. increase charitable giving D. fuel innovative thinking
53. What does the underlined part “abide by” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Miss out. B. Oppose. C. Keep to. D. Correct.
54. What might the author probably recommend readers to do?
A. View study findings guardedly. B. Link study results with daily life.
C. Adopt a sense of humour to boost IQ. D. Pursue a healthier lifestyle.
55. Why does the author write the last paragraph?
A. To compare different working styles.
B. To defend messy working environments.
C. To criticize modern office design trends.
D. To promote Vohs’ research findings.
B 52. D 53. C 54. A 55. B

根据第一段中“Well, research suggests having a messy desk has its benefits and so does a tidy one. While an extremely neat and organized approach to your working environment may indicate higher levels of generosity and conscientiousness (一丝不苟), taking a more relaxed attitude to tidiness may result in higher levels of creativity. (研究表明,凌乱的办公桌有其优势,整洁的办公桌同样如此。虽然将工作环境保持极度整洁有序可能意味着更高水平的慷慨和一丝不苟,但保持更随意的整洁态度则可能带来更高水平的创造力)”可知,2025年的论文指出,整洁和杂乱的工作环境各有优势。故选B项。
【52题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“However, those in the messier environments appeared to think outside the box and contribute to more novel ideas when required to identify new uses for a ping-pong ball.
根据第五段中“Throughout the years, popular studies have connected a number of characteristics and habits to IQ. (多年来,众多流行研究将多种性格特征和行为习惯与智商水平相关联)”和“and, yes, we see the ridiculousness and contradiction. So, with this in mind, it might be worth taking them all with some reservations. (而且,没错,我们也看到了其中的荒谬与矛盾。因此,考虑到这一点,或许我们应该对所有研究结果都保持一定的保留态度)”可知,作者认为以往的研究存在荒谬与矛盾之处,应对其持一定的保留态度,因此他会建议读者谨慎看待研究结果。故选A项。
根据最后一段“But let’s get back to the state of your desk. If it is on the messier side, you are in good company. Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs, and Mark Twain all preferred their workspaces to remain in a state of productive disorder. So, next time your boss accuses you of having a less-than-tidy work surface, you can point out Vohs’ study to them.
For many years, I had enjoyed painting as well as making jewelry and garden art. On weekends, I’ d set up my tent and tables and display my items at craft fairs. It was tiring but I enjoyed it.
However, when I was seventy-one, I suffered from Lyme disease. Though receiving treatment, I was still weakened by the disease. There was no way I could go back to vending (卖东西). This broke my heart, and I became depressed and often lay awake all night. I had no interest in painting or making anything. My doctor suggested, “Try something new!” But what would that be?
One day, I learned a local farm called OATS, which offered “animal therapy (治疗)” to people with serious mental illnesses. It was a way of learning about animals and being close to nature while patients were receiving physical and emotional therapy. I decided to volunteer there. Despite my health issues, they assured me they’d find something for me to do.
I drove there the next morning to find children and adults singing a song. And I was asked to work with a woman named Dee. As it turned out, animal therapy was in the middle of four weeks of a day camp for disabled people, and Dee was the arts-and-crafts lady! I was excited to help. All I had to do was assist the campers. They were sweet and funny. We thoroughly enjoyed decorating little birdhouses, painting pictures, and creating fun works of art.
I continued volunteering every weekday for the next two weeks. Half of the campers were taking slow, gentle walks on horseback while being led by trained volunteers. The joy on the campers’ faces was wonderful. And I found my experience here was conducive to my recovery. I began feeling healthier and stronger every day. Moreover, I slept quite well when I went home.
At the end of the day camp, Dee taught me how to feed goats, chickens, ducks, two donkeys and two mini-horses. What fun! I realized I had found a new purpose and identity. It was a truly healing experience.
56. Why did the author become depressed at seventy-one years old?(no more than 15 words)
_____________________________________________________________________
57. How might the author feel about her first day at OATS?(no more than 5words)
_____________________________________________________________________
58. What does the underlined word“conducive” in paragraph 5 probably mean?(1 word)
_____________________________________________________________________
59. What did the author do at the end of the day camp?(no more than 10words)
_____________________________________________________________________
60. What do you think of voluntary work?(no more than 20 words)
_____________________________________________________________________
56. She couldn’t return to vending because of illness.
57. Excited and joyful. 58. Helpful.
59. She learned to feed many kinds of animals.
60. It is meaningful and benefits both others and ourselves.
根据文章第二段中的“However, when I was seventy-one, I suffered from Lyme disease. Though receiving treatment, I was still weakened by the disease. There was no way I could go back to vending (卖东西)。 This broke my heart, and I became depressed and often lay awake all night.(然而,我七十一岁时患上了莱姆病。尽管接受了治疗,我的身体依旧很虚弱,再也无法回去摆摊售卖东西。这让我伤心不已,我变得情绪低落,还常常彻夜难眠。)”可知,作者因为生病无法继续摆摊售卖,所以变得消沉。
【57题详解】
考查细节理解。根据文章第四段中的“I was excited to help. All I had to do was assist the campers. They were sweet and funny. We thoroughly enjoyed decorating little birdhouses, painting pictures, and creating fun works of art.(我满心欢喜地前去帮忙。我只需要协助这些营员就可以了,他们可爱又有趣。我们一起兴致勃勃地装饰小鸟屋、绘画、制作趣味艺术品。)”可知,作者在 OATS 第一天的心情激动又愉悦。
【58题详解】
考查词句猜测。根据文章第五段中的“And I found my experience here was conducive to my recovery. I began feeling healthier and stronger every day. Moreover, I slept quite well when I went home.(我发现在这里的这段经历对我的康复是conducive的。我的身体日渐健康、强健,回家之后也能睡得十分安稳。)”可知,这段志愿经历对作者恢复健康有帮助,因此该单词含义为“有帮助的”。
【59题详解】
考查细节理解。根据文章最后一段 中的“At the end of the day camp, Dee taught me how to feed goats, chickens, ducks, two donkeys and two mini-horses.(日间营活动结束时,迪伊教我喂养山羊、鸡、鸭子、两头驴和两匹迷你马。)”

Dear Chris,
Glad to hear you’re participating in the World Earth Day poster contest!
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Yours,
Li Hua
Possible Version 1
Dear Chris,
Glad to hear you’re participating in the World Earth Day poster contest! Between the two versions, I highly recommend the first one, “There is no Planet B.”
I prefer this design for two main reasons. Visually, the poster features a crying and sweating Earth, with factory chimneys emitting toxic smoke on its top. It vividly highlights the severe environmental crises we are facing, such as global warming and air pollution. More importantly, the slogan itself is brilliant. By cleverly playing on the phrase “Plan B”, it sends a powerful warning to the public: our planet is irreplaceable, and we have no backup home to escape to. Therefore, we must stop the destruction before it’s too late.
I believe this thought-provoking poster will surely leave a lasting impression on the judges. Best of luck!
Yours,
Li Hua
Possible Version 2
Dear Chris,
Glad to hear you’re participating in the World Earth Day poster contest! Both versions are fantastic, but I favor the second one, “OUR ACTIONS, OUR FUTURE.”
What makes this poster stand out is the perfect combination of its image and slogan. In terms of the image, it presents a hopeful scene where a pair of hands gently holds the Earth. On top of the globe, leafy trees and a bright sun vividly symbolize a green, sustainable future. Moreover, the slogan perfectly matches the drawing. Written entirely in bold capitals, the words create a strong impact, conveying a highly positive message that the destiny of our planet literally lies in our own hands.
I’m sure this inspiring design will shine in the contest and motivate more people to take concrete eco-friendly actions. Good luck!
Yours,
Li Hua
