My Views on Filming Short Videos on Campus
Dear classmates,
Recently, some of us have been filming short videos on campus. In my opinion, it can be a fun way to record campus life, but it also has its drawbacks. Not only may it distract us from our studies and even disrupt the school order, but it might also cause unnecessary comparisons and affect our self-esteem when the videos don’t get the expected response.
I suggest we should limit the time for filming and choose proper places. Let’s focus more on our academic tasks and make good use of our time on campus.
Thank you!
Then, suddenly, the unexpected happened. Just as Michael looked nervously, Frank somehow tripped over something. Down he fell onto the ground, sending all his books flying and spreading out on the floor. Although Michael was just as shocked, his mind was racing. Then Ramon's Grandma's words popped into his mind, “You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar.” He knew what to do. Barely had Frank gotten up with loads of embarrassment when Michael went up.
Michael bent down and quickly picked up Frank's books on the floor. Offering them to him, Michael said with a smile, “You look like you could use an ally.” Now, it was Frank's turn to be numbed there with burning cheeks. He quickly took his books, muttered in a low voice, “Uh, thanks” and fled the scene. Out of the corner of his eye, Michael caught Ramon approaching with a knowing smile and a thumbs-up. “My grandma would be proud of you,” Ramon remarked. “Well, I guess that's just honey,” Michael grinned. “And I hope it sticks.”

M: I think so. There hasn’t been any movement for the past half hour.
W: Wow! That was scary. Look, my best teapot fell off the shelf and broke.
M: Count yourself lucky. That’s the only damage. Earthquakes often kill people, you know.
W: Maybe the damage was worse in other places. Turn on the TV and see if there are any reports.
M: I can’t. The power’s still off. It must have damaged the lines.
W: That’s a shame. The news program will be starting about now. What about the radio?
M: We hardly ever use it. The batteries are flat. Of course, there’s poor reception on the radio.
W: But we should keep batteries in our house, just for emergencies. We have supplies of food. Batteries are just as important when something like this happens.
M: You’re right. Who knows when a storm or flood might hit us?
13.What does Taylor think of the meal plans on the website?

14.Which is the most popular meal plan among students?
A.The Basic plan. B.The Gold plan. C.The Unlimited plan.

A.At downtown coffee shops.
B.At the main dining hall only.
C.At convenience stores on campus.
16.What is a good way to save money?
A.Eating dinner after 9 pm.
B.Dining between 12 and 1:30 pm.
C.Coming earlier to the dining hall.
【答案】13.C 14.B 15.C 16.A
W: Alright, Taylor. Let’s talk about the most important survival tool on campus. Your meal plan.
M: The website made it sound like rocket science. What’s the difference between the plans anyway?
W: OK, the basic plan provides 10 meals per week with 100 dollars in dining dollars. The gold plan gives you 15 meals plus 200 dollars dining dollars, which most students find sufficient. Then there’s the unlimited plan, which is popular with athletes and students with heavier appetites.
M: How do the dining dollars work exactly?
W: They’re like a prepaid account you can use at any campus food location, coffee shops, convenience stores, that fancy sushi place in the student center. But remember, they’re only good on campus.
M: What are the busiest times at the dining hall?
W: The lunch rush between 12:00 and 1:30 pm tends to be the most crowded. If your schedule allows, coming earlier or later can mean shorter lines. Also, late-night meals after 9 pm are half off, which can help stretch your meal plan further.
M: This has been really helpful. I think I’ll go with the gold plan.
W: That’s what I would recommend.

Hello, everyone—this is your headmaster, Mr. Dodson, speaking. I’m sure you’ve all noticed the snowstorm has become worse since we arrived here at 8 a.m. The school staff and I apologize for not realizing how heavy this storm would be. It was reported that there would be 5 cm of snow. But indeed, we currently have double that amount, and it’s expected to become over 20 cm by three o’clock. So, what does that mean? It will require classes to end now, at 11 o’clock. Lunch will still be served in the cafeteria; you may have it now. For senior students who have driven to school, you’re welcome to drive home, but please be careful. For everyone else, the school buses are coming at noon. You are advised to wait in the cafeteria until then. But please, for everyone in the school, call your parents to tell them what you’re doing. It’s quite a dangerous situation out there right now. And by this evening, we’ll have almost a meter of snow on the ground. Next, wait for an announcement from our school bus driver, Jamie Johnson. He will tell you more information about bus schedules and safety advice. Thanks, everyone—and please, stay safe out there.

Turning soil, pulling weeds, and harvesting cabbage sound like tough work for middle and high school kids. And at first it is, says Abby Jaramillo, who with another teacher started Urban Sprouts, a school garden program at four low-income schools. The program aims to help students develop science skills, environmental awareness, and healthy lifestyles.
Jaramillo’s students live in neighborhoods where fresh food and green space are not easy to find and fast food restaurants outnumber grocery stores. “The kids literally come to school with bags of snacks and large bottles of soft drinks,” she says. “They come to us thinking vegetables are awful, dirt is awful, insects are awful.” Though some are initially scared of the insects and turned off by the dirt, most are eager to try something new.
Urban Sprouts’ classes, at two middle schools and two high schools, include hands-on experiments such as soil testing, flower-and-seed dissection, tastings of fresh or dried produce, and work in the garden. Several times a year, students cook the vegetables they grow, and they occasionally make salads for their entire schools.
Program evaluations show that kids eat more vegetables as a result of the classes. “We have students who say they went home and talked to their parents and now they’re eating differently,” Jaramillo says.
She adds that the program’s benefits go beyond nutrition. Some students get so interested in gardening that they bring home seeds to start their own vegetable gardens. Besides, working in the garden seems to have a calming effect on Jaramillo’s special education students, many of whom have emotional control issues. “They get outside,” she says, “and they feel successful.”
24.What do we know about Abby Jaramillo?
A.She used to be a health worker. B.She grew up in a low-income family.
C.She owns a fast food restaurant. D.She is an initiator of Urban Sprouts.
25.What was a problem facing Jaramillo at the start of the program?
A.The kids’ parents distrusted her. B.Students had little time for her classes.
C.Some kids disliked garden work. D.There was no space for school gardens.
26.Which of the following best describes the impact of the program?
A.Far-reaching. B.Predictable.
C.Short-lived. D.Unidentifiable.
27.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Rescuing School Gardens B.Experiencing Country Life
C.Growing Vegetable Lovers D.Changing Local Landscape
【答案】24.D 25.C 26.A 27.C
根据第一段的“And at first it is, says Abby Jaramillo, who with another teacher started Urban Sprouts, a school garden program at four low-income schools.(起初是这样的,艾比·哈拉米洛说,她和另一位老师在四所低收入学校启动了“Urban Sprouts”学校花园项目。)”
“They come to us thinking vegetables are awful, dirt is awful, insects are awful.” Though some are initially scared of the insects and turned off by the dirt, most are eager to try something new.(她说。“他们来找我们,认为蔬菜很可怕,泥土很可怕,昆虫也很可怕。”虽然有些人一开始害怕昆虫,对泥土感到厌烦,但大多数人都渴望尝试新的东西。)”可知,项目之初,一些学生不喜欢园艺工作。故选C。
26.推理判断题。根据最后一段“She adds that the program’s benefits go beyond nutrition. Some students get so interested in gardening that they bring home seeds to start their own vegetable gardens. Besides, working in the garden seems to have a calming effect on Jaramillo’s special education students, many of whom have emotional control issues. “They get outside,” she says, “and they feel successful.”(她补充说,该计划的好处不仅仅是营养。有些学生对园艺非常感兴趣,他们带回家种子开始自己的菜园。此外,在花园里工作似乎对Jaramillo的特殊教育学生有镇静作用,他们中的许多人都有情绪控制问题。“他们走了出去,”她说,“他们觉得成功。”)”可知,这个项目不仅给学生提供了有营养的食物,而且许多学生回家开创了自己的菜园,对有情绪控制问题的学生也起到了镇静作用,从而推知,该项目的影响是深远的。故选A。
根据第一段的“And at first it is, says Abby Jaramillo, who with another teacher started Urban Sprouts, a school garden program at four low-income schools. The program aims to help students develop science skills, environmental awareness, and healthy lifestyles.(起初是这样的,艾比·哈拉米洛说,她和另一位老师在四所低收入学校启动了“Urban Sprouts”学校花园项目。该项目旨在帮助学生培养科学技能、环保意识和健康的生活方式。)”和最后一段的“Some students get so interested in gardening that they bring home seeds to start their own vegetable gardens.(一些学生对园艺非常感兴趣,于是他们把种子带回家,开始种自己的菜园)”以及下文内容可知,文章主要讲述了Abby Jaramillo等老师在低收入学校发起的培养学生科学能力,环保意识以及健康生活方式的Urban Sprouts花园项目,让学生种植蔬菜,对学生影响深远。
C
Start with small things: switching to a reusable water bottle, and then working on weaning yourself off paper towels. And there are different ways, you know. Then, maybe you want to start buying local food and eating less meat. I mean, don’t think that you have to do everything at once; take one step at a time and then it’s not as scary.
This is our semi-annual textile (纺织品) drive. We run two a year. We also run two e-waste drives, so four drives a year. And for this one we partner with Wearable Collections to properly recycle all of the unwanted textiles so that they don’t wind up in the waste stream. The goal is that 50 percent of them will be reused, upcycled and worn again. It’s one of our zero waste workshops, part of a new series that we’re partnering on.
And it’s basically a workshop for everyday New Yorkers to come and learn how they can live a zero waste lifestyle — one in which they’re throwing fewer things into landfill, doing more recycling and composting, and actually being heedful of the products they purchase so that they can purchase items that have a beneficial reuse.
It’s summer over there. We’re already swimming. Everybody brings in all of the clothes that they’re not using anymore. And we all trade and swap and people end up with new items. Anything left over gets donated. We’ve had a huge number of people coming from all different Broadway shows and from the neighborhood and offices in the community to bring their textiles.
I think the more we bring the public into our work, the more efficient it will be, the stronger our relationship grows, and the greater progress we can make.
28.What does the author say about zero waste?
A.It values big changes for the environment.
B.It encourages the use of plenty of paper towels.
C.It needs a perfect plan before taking action.
D.It should be carried out step by step.
29.What does the underlined word “heedful” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Mindful. B.Tolerant. C.Fond. D.Critical.
30.What can be inferred about the activity described in paragraph 4?
A.It is held to promote Broadway shows.
B.It helps reduce textile waste in the community.
C.It aims to collect clothes for the swimming pool.
D.It is organized to sell old clothes at a low price.
31.What’s the text mainly about?
A.Where to recycle textiles. B.What zero waste workshops bring.
C.How to achieve zero waste. D.Why zero waste matters so much.
【答案】28.D 29.A 30.B 31.C
根据第一段的句子“I mean, don’t think that you have to do everything at once; take one step at a time and then it's not as scary. (我的意思是,不要觉得你必须一次性做完所有事情;一步一步来,这样就不会那么可怕)”可知,作者认为零废弃应该逐步实施。
29.词句猜测题。根据第三段划线单词所在的句子“actually being heedful of the products they purchase so that they can purchase items that have a beneficial reuse (实际上对他们购买的产品保持heedful,以便他们能购买具有有益再利用价值的物品)”,结合前文“throwing fewer things into landfill, doing more recycling and composting (减少填埋垃圾、增加回收和堆肥)”可知,只有多注意,多留心,才能购买具有有益再利用价值的物品,所以划线单词heedful意为"注意的、留心的”,与mindful意思相近。
根据第四段的描述“Everybody brings in all of the clothes that they're not using anymore. And we all trade and swap and people end up with new items. Anything left over gets donated. (每个人都带来不再使用的衣服。我们互相交换,人们最终得到新物品。剩下的都捐赠出去)”可知,这项活动通过交换和捐赠旧衣物,有助于减少社区纺织品浪费。
31.主旨大意题。全文围绕零废弃生活方式展开,从如何逐步开始(从小事做起)、零废弃工作坊的具体活动(纺织品回收、交换),到公众参与的意义,核心内容是介绍如何实现零废弃。
D
Can generative artificial intelligence systems like ChatGPT genuinely create original ideas? A new study led by Professor Karim Jerbi from the Department of Psychology at the Université de Montréal, made a direct comparison between human creativity and the creativity of large language models, pointing to a significant shift.
Researchers evaluated several leading large language models, including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and others, and compared their performance with results from more than 100,000 human participants. They found that while some AI models now outperform the average person, peak creativity remains firmly human. In fact, when researchers examined the most creative half of participants, their average scores surpassed (超越) those of every AI model tested. The gap grew even larger among the top 10 percent of the most creative individuals.
These findings raised an important question. Is AI creativity fixed, or can it be shaped? The study shows that creativity in AI can be adjusted by changing technical settings, particularly the model’s temperature. This parameter (参数) controls how predictable or adventurous the generated responses are. At lower temperature settings, AI produces safer and more conventional outputs. At higher temperatures, responses become more varied, less predictable, and more exploratory, allowing the system to move beyond familiar ideas.
The study offers a balanced perspective on fears that artificial intelligence could replace creative professionals. While AI systems can now match or exceed average human creativity on certain tasks, they still have clear limitations and rely on human direction.
Rather than signaling the end of creative careers, the findings suggest a future where AI serves as a creative assistant. By expanding ideas and opening new paths for exploration, AI may help expand human imagination rather than replace it. “By directly comparing human and machine capabilities, studies like ours push us to rethink what we mean by creativity,” concludes Professor Karim Jerbi.
32.What can we know from Paragraph 2?
A.AI defeats humans completely.
B.AI fails to create original ideas.
C.AI depends on human guidance.
D.AI can do better than average humans.
33.How does the “temperature” setting affect AI creativity according to Paragraph 3?
A.It fixes technical bugs. B.It controls output variety.
C.It ensures content safety. D.It decides the response speed.
34.What role is AI expected to play in the future?
A.A helper for imagination. B.A threat to creative jobs.
C.An independent creator. D.A replacement for humans.
35.What can be the best title for the text?
A.AI Systems Have Fixed Creativity
B.Temperature Settings Control AI’s Future
C.Human Creativity Still Leads in the AI Era
D.Montréal Study Discovers AI’s Limitations
【答案】32.D 33.B 34.A 35.C
根据第二段“They found that while some AI models now outperform the average person, peak creativity remains firmly human.(他们发现,虽然现在一些人工智能模型的表现超过了普通人,但创造力的巅峰仍然牢牢掌握在人类手中)”可知,人工智能在某些方面能比普通人表现得更好。
根据第三段“This parameter (参数) controls how predictable or adventurous the generated responses are. At lower temperature settings, AI produces safer and more conventional outputs. At higher temperatures, responses become more varied, less predictable, and more exploratory, allowing the system to move beyond familiar ideas.(这个参数控制着生成的回答的可预测性或冒险性。在较低的温度设置下,人工智能产生更安全、更常规的输出。在较高温度下,回答变得更多样化、更不可预测,且更具探索性,使系统能够突破熟悉的想法)”可知,“温度”设置控制着人工智能输出内容的多样性。
34.细节理解题。根据最后一段“Rather than signaling the end of creative careers, the findings suggest a future where AI serves as a creative assistant. By expanding ideas and opening new paths for exploration, AI may help expand human imagination rather than replace it.(这些发现并非预示着创意职业的终结,而是表明在未来人工智能将充当创意助手。
C选项“Human Creativity Still Leads in the AI Era”(在人工智能时代人类创造力仍占领先地位)”最能概括全文,为最佳标题。

Overtourism Is For Real: How Can You Help?
Travel promotes understanding, expands our minds, makes us better people, and boosts local economies and communities, but the rapid growth of travel has led to overtourism in certain regions and destinations. 36 Certainly not. The loss of what travel offers would be unacceptable in today’s world. Here are some tips on making wise decisions to minimize pressure on the places we visit and improve our experience.
●Choose mindfully. Overvisited destinations are that way for a reason: they’re special. With so many online posts featuring the same places, it’s easy to feel like you’re missing out. Go somewhere only when the landscape, culture or food deeply draws you. 37
●Get creative. The best way to ease pressure on over-touristed destinations is to go somewhere else. Though overtourism is described as a problem affecting the entire world, it’s actually concentrated to a small number of extremely popular spots. That means you have tons of less-visited options to choose from. 38 Why not try a regional alternative or check out a popular destination’s lesser-known sights?
● 39 Minimize impact and maximize experience by skipping major holidays or rush hour. You’ll compete with fewer tourists, save money, experience a different side of a popular place, and boost the economy when tourism is traditionally slower.
Visiting a place that others call home is a privilege (荣幸). Do your part to preserve what makes a destination special in the first place. 40 You may be amazed how much closer you’ll feel to the people there.
A.Visit during off-peak times.
B.So, should we stop traveling?
C.Travel for you and no one else.
D.Can overtourism be avoided then?
E.You can still find relatively undiscovered places.
F.You’ll find yourself virtually alone, or close to it.
G.Consider giving back to the communities you’re visiting.

Go somewhere only when the landscape, culture or food deeply draws you.(游客过多的目的地是有原因的:它们很特别。
38.前文“That means you have tons of less-visited options to choose from.(这意味着你有很多不太受欢迎的选择)及后文“Why not try a regional alternative or check out a popular destination’s lesser-known sights?( 为什么不尝试一个地区性的选择,或者看看一个热门目的地不太为人所知的景点呢)”提出建议,可以选择一些冷门的景点,E选项“你仍然可以找到相对未被发现的地方”符合语境。故选E。
故选A。
40.前文“Do your part to preserve what makes a destination special in the first place.(尽你的一份力,从一开始就保护一个目的地的特别之处)”表明旅游时应保护旅游景点,后文“You may be amazed how much closer you’ll feel to the people there.(你可能会惊讶地发现你和那里的人感觉如此亲近)”表示这样做的感受,G选项“考虑回馈你所访问的社区”承上启下,符合语境。故选G。

Thank you!

Michael saw the trouble coming. There standing in the hallway was Frank, the boy who enjoyed making fun of anyone at any given moment. Frank was tall and strong, so few of his victims stood up to him. Michael hated the idea that Frank always got away with his wrongdoing. Yet like most kids who were picked on, he just took it quietly and waited for the unpleasant to pass.
Frank walked up, his eyes locked on the books in Michael’s arms. When they met, Frank stopped unexpectedly, “Hey, let me see those books!” Some students watched as Michael held out the books he was carrying, trying not to give away his nervousness.
Frank took a book, looked inside for a second, and then threw the book at Michael, who dropped all the other books. “Hey, those are school property,” Frank barked, “Be careful!” Then he walked away, laughing loudly.
Michael, his cheeks turning red, half kicked the fallen books. Suddenly a hand picked up one book. “You look like you could use a p ally (盟友),” a friendly voice said. It was Ramon, the most athletic boy in the high school. Michael couldn’t believe Ramon was stopping to help him as they barely spoke.
“Thanks,” Michael sighed with relief. “It’s confusing. I don’t know what his problems is.”
“Well, as I see it,” Ramon said, “you need to find a way to end this.” Michael nodded, stuck for what to say. Ramon continued, “You know my grandmother used to tell me whenever I had a problem with someone. She’d say, ‘You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar (醋).’”
Looking puzzled, Michael asked, “What does that mean?”
“It means kindness may be more effective than anger,” Ramon explained.
“Can you just tell Frank to stop picking on me?” Michael suggested.
“That’s vinegar,” Ramon laughed as he walked away. “Try honey instead.”
Ramon’s words left Michael thinking.
The next school day brought Michael’s usual pain. There stood Frank, and Michael knew it would be just seconds before he had to face him in the middle of the hall. Frank came nearer.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

Michael bent down and quickly picked up Frank’s books on the floor.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Alright, Taylor, let's talk about the most important survival tool on campus, your meal plan. The website made IT sound like rocket science. What's the difference between . the plans anyway? okay. The basic plan provides ten meals per week with one hundred dollars in dollars. The gold plan gives you fifteen meals plus two hundred dollars dining dollars, which most students find sufficient. Then there's the unlimited plan, which is popular with athletes and students with heavy appetites. How do the dining dollars work exactly? They're like a prepaid account you can use at any campus, food location, coffee shops, convenient stores, that fancy sushi place in the student center. But remember, they're only good on campus. What are the busiest times at the dining hall? The lunch rush between twelve and one thirty P. M tends to be the most crowded if your schedule allows, coming earlier or later can mean shorter lines. Listen to the next question. Hello everyone, this is your headmaster, mister dodd, son speaking. I'm sure you've all noticed the snowstorm has become worse since we arrived here at AAM, the school's ff. And I apologized for not realizing how heavy the storm would be. IT was reported that there would be five centimetres of snow, but indeed, we currently have doubled that amount, and it's expected to become over twenty seven meters by three o'clock. So what does that mean? IT will require classes to end. Now at eleven o'clock, lunch will still be served in the cafeteria. You may have IT now for senior students who have driven to school, you're welcomed the drive home, but please be careful for everyone else. The school buses are coming at noon. You are advised to wait in the cafeteria until then, but please for everyone in the school, call your parents to tell them what you're doing. It's quite a dangerous situation out there right now. And by the saving, we'll have almost a meter of snow on ground. Next, wait for an announcement from our school bus driver, James Johnson. He will tell you more information about bus schedules and safety advice. Thanks, everyone, and please stay safe out there. Hello, everyone. This is your headmaster, mister dodson speaking.
