“Walt Disney World is banning selfie-sticks from its theme parks because selfie-sticks have become a growing safety concern for both our guests and cast,” Disney World spokeswoman Kim Prunty said.
Under a new policy, which takes effect Tuesday, the poles won’t make it past the bag check at any Disney World theme park. The sticks also won’t be allowed in Disney World water parks or Disney Quest, a gaming attraction at Downtown Disney. Selfie-sticks will also become forbidden at Disneyland Resort in California on June 30. The prohibition begins at Disney’s parks in Paris and Hong Kong on July 1st.
Guests will be checked for the equipment during the routine bag check that happens near the parks’ entrances. They will have an option of turning in their selfie-sticks for pick-up later or to go back to their cars or hotel rooms to keep them. Visitors will be told of the policy in locations such as the parking lots and at the resort’s hotels. The prohibition will be added to the park rules post on Disney World’s website.
The issue has been building at Disney. Previously, the sticks were prohibited from its rides, and “no selfie-sticks” signs were at select rides, such as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom. Cast members have given oral warnings to rule breakers.
Selfie-stick users put smartphones and cameras on the ends of poles to extend their reach, frequently capturing theme-park moments through self-portraits. The tools have been banned in public places-including some museums and stadiums — worldwide for obstructing views or causing safety issues.
Disney World already prohibits items such as skateboards, inline skates, wagon, folding chairs and glass containers, according to its official website, which also lists “other items that we determine may be harmful”.
Universal Orlando has banned selfie-sticks and other loose items from certain thrill rides at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure theme parks, but it has not set parkwide bans.
21.Which of the following objects has already been banned in Disney World before the new policy takes effect?
A.Smartphones. B.Folding chairs. C.Cameras. D.Containers.
22.According to the ban, if the guests are found carrying selfie-sticks during the routine bag check, they may .
A.abandon them at the bag check B.get fined and pick them up later
C.turn them in to the police D.put them in the trunk of their cars
23.The underlined word in the fifth paragraph probably means .
A.changing B.broadening C.blocking D.narrowing
根据倒数第二段“Disney World already prohibits items such as skateboards, inline skates, wagon, folding chairs and glass containers”(迪士尼乐园已经禁止了滑板、直排轮溜冰鞋、马车、折叠椅和玻璃容器等物品)可知,在新政策生效前,折叠椅已被禁止进入迪士尼主题公园。故选B。
根据第三段第二句“They will have an option of turning in their selfie-sticks for pick-up later or to go back to their cars or hotel rooms to keep them.”(游客可以选择交出自拍杆,稍后再取,或者放回车里或者是房间里保存)所以根据这项禁令,可推知,如果客人被发现在例行的行李检查中携带自拍杆,可能会把它们放在汽车后备箱里。故选D。
B
In early March, a short video of a food deliveryman sitting on a kerb (马路牙子) weeping in Hà Nội went viral. The caption — a simple unfinished thought, translated roughly as “What if your whole life is never brilliant?” — had no complex scientific wording, no self-help jargon (行话). Just an exhausted young man and a question that refused to stay quiet.
The video attracted more than half a million interactions, and 50,000 comments from people sharing their own experiences and empathy for the young deliveryman.
I paused the video after seeing the young man cry, because it was too emotional. It is still rare to see a man cry, as many of us are taught by our fathers to hold our emotions inside. That teaching is now somewhat outdated and, to a certain extent, toxic (有害的), but it shows the weight of the pressure — enough to make a young man break from it and stay true to his feelings.
A close friend of mine had been working a regular job for five years, earning a modest salary. Last week he was given a chance to double his salary elsewhere. He prepared for his final week of work and said his goodbyes to colleagues, only for the employers to call and apologize, saying they had chosen a different candidate at the last minute. My friend broke down and called me, uttering the phrase “What if my life is never brilliant?” while sobbing uncontrollably. He wanted that job so badly, believing it could be his big break. But it never came, and in the cruelest way.
One of my favourite movies is The Pursuit of Happiness. It tells Chris Gardner’s rags-to-riches story. Yet I believe Gardner’s happiness did not come from wealth or social status. His joy was his son Christopher, who guided him to go on, even in the darkest days when they had to sleep in a public restroom.
Your life is defined by how you react to it. Despite what the outside circumstances throw at you, only you can change it. The deliveryman never answered his own question. And perhaps that is the point. The pursuit of happiness does not require a destination. Happiness is a choice: live each day with intention, and you may find it has been there all along.
24.Which statement is false about the teaching mentioned in Para.3?
A.It shows the weakness of the deliveryman.
B.It’s outdated but still influential.
C.It’s not the golden rule for being a true man.
D.It shows the unbearable pressure on the deliveryman.
25.What does the story of a friend of the writer’s indicate?
A.Job failure hurts most.
B.Stable jobs reduce loss.
C.Job changes are common.
D.Youth fear being unbrilliant.
26.For what purpose is the film talked about in this passage?
A.To prove wealth brings long-term happiness.
B.To challenge the traditional idea of happiness.
C.To introduce an meaningful film to the readers.
D.To explain why rags-to-riches stories is comforting.
27.Which of the following best reflects the main idea of the text?
A.Man should never cry.
B.Brilliance depends on hard work.
C.Happiness is a choice, not success.
D.Youth must struggle for brilliance.
【答案】24.A 25.D 26.B 27.C
根据第三段“I paused the video after seeing the young man cry, because it was too emotional. It is still rare to see a man cry, as many of us are taught by our fathers to hold our emotions inside. That teaching is now somewhat outdated and, to a certain extent, toxic (有害的), but it shows the weight of the pressure — enough to make a young man break from it and stay true to his feelings.(看到那个年轻人哭了之后,我暂停了视频,因为太情绪化了。
根据第四段“My friend broke down and called me, uttering the phrase “What if my life is never brilliant?” while sobbing uncontrollably. He wanted that job so badly, believing it could be his big break.(朋友情绪崩溃,打电话向我哭诉,一边止不住地抽泣,一边念叨着:“如果我的人生永远都碌碌无为该怎么办?”他太渴望得到那份工作了,本以为这会是他人生的转机。)”可知,作者朋友的故事说明了年轻人害怕一生平庸无光。
26.推理判断题。根据第五段“It tells Chris Gardner’s rags-to-riches story. Yet I believe Gardner’s happiness did not come from wealth or social status. His joy was his son Christopher, who guided him to go on, even in the darkest days when they had to sleep in a public restroom.(它讲述了克里斯·加德纳从一无所有到成功逆袭的故事。但我认为,加德纳的幸福并非源于财富与社会地位。他的快乐源自儿子克里斯托弗。即便在最艰难的日子里,父子俩只能露宿公共卫生间,也是儿子支撑着他一路走下去。)”可知,文中提及这部电影的目的是挑战大众对幸福的传统认知。
27.主旨大意题。根据最后一段“The pursuit of happiness does not require a destination. Happiness is a choice: live each day with intention, and you may find it has been there all along.(追寻幸福,本无需设定终点。幸福是一种选择:用心过好每一天,你便会发现,幸福其实一直都在身旁。)”可知,文章主要讲述了幸福是一种选择,而非功成名就。

The common fear that a friend secretly dislikes us often reflects internal insecurities rather than actual ill will. People frequently interpret neutral or unclear behaviors — such as brief text replies or delayed responses — as signs of rejection. Even well-meaning words of comfort like “no worries” may be perceived as mocking or insincere.
This tendency can be explained through what is known as the fawn response, a behavioral pattern less recognized than the “fight or flight” reaction. The fawn response involves attempts to please others in order to feel safe, a strategy often developed in childhood when facing critical or emotionally neglectful parents, or an unstable home environment. While this strategy may ease conflict temporarily, it can also lead to a habitual cycle of approval-seeking. We might intellectually understand that a friend isn’t upset with us — but those “old ways of being” bite hard. Something was learned early on: “I need to try harder and do more to be loved.”
This pattern has several consequences. On the personal level, it fuels anxiety, as individuals repeatedly question whether they have offended their peers. On the interpersonal level, it can strain relationships, since constant demands for reassurance may frustrate friends and even create the very rejection that was worried about. In this way, assuming everyone is annoyed with you can become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
The key is understanding that it is not the end of the world — or a friendship. Conflict is not only unavoidable; it can even be healing, demonstrating that intimacy can survive difference. Learning to tolerate discomfort, rather than avoiding it at all costs, can foster both toughness and closeness.
Social media, unfortunately, worsens social anxiety. The absence of nonverbal cues makes it easy to misinterpret tone, while the constant visibility of online interactions can intensify feelings of exclusion or neglect. Managing these anxieties requires conscious effort. Instead of seeking immediate reassurance, individuals can pause to ask: Am I truly being rejected, or am I simply anxious? Developing tolerance for uncertainty can interrupt the cycle and reduce dependence on others’ approval. Trust also plays a role. When friends say they are simply busy or distracted, accept their words at face value. After all, no question or magic phrase can control another person’s perception. Even if it could, you might be robbing yourself of opportunities to grow, learn or deepen a bond.
28.What can we learn about the fawn response?
A.It is nothing like a “fight” reaction.
B.It always prevents conflict from occurring.
C.It reflects the belief that approval is learned.
D.It involves deep-rooted behaviors to earn acceptance.
29.What does “a self-fulfilling prophecy” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.A belief that one is self-made. B.A prediction that is certain to fail.
C.An outcome that happens as feared. D.A pattern that tries to entertain others.
30.According to the author, conflict in a relationship can be ________.
A.a way to test its toughness B.a sign of a growing disagreement
C.a problem that should be avoided D.a chance to strengthen a friendship
31.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.The root causes of social anxiety. B.The necessity of seeking reassurance.
C.Strategies for managing social anxieties. D.The impact of online cues on friendship.
根据第二段中的“The fawn response involves attempts to please others in order to feel safe, a strategy often developed in childhood when facing critical or emotionally neglectful parents, or an unstable home environment. While this strategy may ease conflict temporarily, it can also lead to a habitual cycle of approval-seeking. We might intellectually understand that a friend isn’t upset with us — but those “old ways of being” bite hard. (讨好型应激反应是指通过取悦他人来获得安全感,这种模式常形成于童年:面对苛刻、情感忽视的父母,或不稳定的家庭环境时。它或许能暂时缓解冲突,却会陷入习惯性寻求认可的循环。理智上我们知道朋友没生气,但这些“旧有生存模式”仍会带来强烈困扰。)”可知,讨好型反应是为获取认可而产生的根深蒂固的行为。
29.词句猜测题。根据第三段中的“On the interpersonal level, it can strain relationships, since constant demands for reassurance may frustrate friends and even create the very rejection that was worried about. In this way, assuming everyone is annoyed with you can become a self-fulfilling prophecy.(在人际层面,它会损害人际关系:不断寻求安慰会让朋友感到厌烦,甚至引发自己担心的被排斥。如此一来,认定所有人都讨厌你,最终会应验,形成a self-fulfilling prophecy。)”可知,这里指认定的坏的假设最终会应验,所以a self-fulfilling prophecy指害怕的结局最终成真。
30.细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Conflict is not only unavoidable; it can even be healing, demonstrating that intimacy can survive difference.(冲突不仅无法避免,甚至具有治愈作用,能证明情谊可以包容分歧。)”
根据最后一段中的“Managing these anxieties requires conscious effort. Instead of seeking immediate reassurance, individuals can pause to ask: Am I truly being rejected, or am I simply anxious? Developing tolerance for uncertainty can interrupt the cycle and reduce dependence on others’ approval. (管理这些焦虑需要有意识的努力。不必急于寻求安慰,而是可以停下来自问:我是真的被排斥了,还是只是在焦虑?学会容忍不确定性,就能打破这种循环,减少对他人认可的依赖。)”可知,本段主要介绍应对社交焦虑的方法。

Stressed at work and feeling your blood pressure rise? People all over the world are told by their doctors to try a low-sodium (钠) diet to treat high blood pressure or other diseases, but there’s no denying that salt makes food taste good. Fortunately, Japanese researchers at Tokyo’s Meiji University and the manufacturer Kirin have developed high-tech chopsticks that enhance salty tastes, potentially helping those who need to reduce sodium in their diets.
These wired-up chopsticks are actually part of a device that the researchers say can enhance the salty flavor of low-sodium foods. And when they were tested on participants for the first time, results showed that the high-tech chopsticks increase perceived (察觉到) saltiness in foods by about 1.5 times.
According to the research team, the basic principle is that the extra salty flavor is perceived due to extremely weak electric currents conveyed directly into the mouth through the tip of one of the chopsticks. Scientists have apparently been using this kind of weak electricity to play with flavors in the lab for years, but these chopsticks in particular are set to adjust the activity of ions (离子) in sodium chloride(table salt), which enhances salty flavor.
And do these chopsticks work as expected? To verify the effect of the new chopsticks, the researchers conducted an experiment on a total of 36 participants aged 40 to 65, all of whom were eating a low-sodium diet. If nothing else, one thing was clear: participants using the chopsticks tasted more salt than they did without. Results show that they even thought that low-sodium food eaten with the high-tech chopsticks tasted saltier than regular food made with an average amount of sodium, and eaten with normal chopsticks.
The chopsticks aren’t on store shelves quite yet, but with promising results, people around the world who are unhappily devoted to a low-sodium diet might just be excited for any updates to come!
32.What is the main function of the future high-tech chopsticks?
A.To treat blood pressure.
B.To help reduce salt intake.
C.To increase the nutrition of food.
D.To test how salty a dish is.
33.How do the high-tech chopsticks work?
A.By sending warning information to the brain.
B.By tricking our brains into tasting extra salt.
C.By using electricity to transport ions between chopsticks.
D.By changing the saltiness of food with electric shocks.
34.What does the underlined word “verify” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Change. B.Improve.
C.Confirm. D.Strengthen.
35.What is the writer’s attitude toward the future of the chopsticks?
A.Negative B.Skeptical
C.Uncertain. D.Hopeful.
根据第一段“Fortunately, Japanese researchers at Tokyo’s Meiji University and the manufacturer Kirin have developed high-tech chopsticks that enhance salty tastes, potentially helping those who need to reduce sodium in their diets. (幸运的是,东京明治大学的日本研究人员和制造商麒麟控股株式会社研发了一种高科技筷子,可以增强咸味,可能帮助那些需要在饮食中减少钠摄入的人。)”可知,这种未来高科技筷子的主要功能是帮助减少盐分摄入。
33.细节理解题。根据第三段“According to the research team, the basic principle is that the extra salty flavor is perceived due to extremely weak electric currents conveyed directly into the mouth through the tip of one of the chopsticks. (据研究团队介绍,其基本原理是,由于通过其中一根筷子的尖端直接传入口腔的极微弱电流,人们会感知到额外的咸味。)”可知,高科技筷子通过微弱电流欺骗我们的大脑,使其感知到额外的咸味。
34.词句猜测题。根据第四段“To verify the effect of the new chopsticks, the researchers conducted an experiment on a total of 36 participants aged 40 to 65, all of whom were eating a low-sodium diet. (为了verify新筷子的效果,研究人员对总共36名年龄在40至65岁之间的参与者进行了实验,所有参与者都在食用低钠饮食。)”以及“Results show that they even thought that low-sodium food eaten with the high-tech chopsticks tasted saltier than regular food made with an average amount of sodium, and eaten with normal chopsticks. (结果显示,他们甚至认为用高科技筷子吃的低钠食物比用普通筷子吃的含平均量钠的普通食物更咸。)”可知,研究人员进行实验是为了验证新筷子的效果,因此“verify”意为“确认;证实”。
35.推理判断题。根据最后一段“The chopsticks aren’t on store shelves quite yet, but with promising results, people around the world who are unhappily devoted to a low-sodium diet might just be excited for any updates to come! (这种筷子尚未上架销售,但有了令人怀有希望的结果,世界各地那些不情愿地坚持低钠饮食的人们可能会对即将到来的任何更新感到兴奋!)”可知,作者对这种筷子的未来充满希望。

Why Your Brain Prefers Junk Food?
Have you ever wondered why a bag of chips is so much more appealing than an apple? The answer lies not in your willpower but in your brain’s ancient reward system. Over millions of years, human brains evolved to seek out high-calorie foods because they provided the energy needed for survival. 36
Modern food companies have learned to use this biological weakness. By combining salt, sugar, and fat in precise ratios, they create what scientists call “highly appealing” foods. These foods cause a much stronger dopamine(多巴胺) release in the brain than natural foods do. 37 As a result, you find yourself reaching for another cookie even when you are not hungry.
38 Long-term exposure to highly appealing foods can actually rewire your brain's reward circuits. Over time, you need more and more of these foods to feel the same level of pleasure. This is similar to how drug addiction develops. Meanwhile, natural foods like vegetables begin to taste less satisfying by comparison.
So how can you fight back against your own brain? 39 If you keep unhealthy snacks out of sight or simply do not buy them, you reduce the constant temptation. Another powerful strategy is mindful eating — paying full attention to the taste, texture, and smell of each bite. This practice helps your brain relearn to appreciate natural flavors.
Understanding the neuroscience of food preference does not mean you are powerless. 40 Small, consistent changes in your daily habits can gradually help your brain learn to prefer healthier options. The key is patience, not punishment.
A.One effective method is to change your food environment.
B.Fortunately, you can use this knowledge to your advantage.
C.The reason has nothing to do with genetics or personal taste.
D.Slowly introducing more whole foods can help correct the change.
E.That explains why some people lose control around processed foods.
F.This intense pleasure signal overcomes the brain’s natural fullness signal.
G.However, the same mechanism now works against us in today's world of cheap calories.
【答案】36.G 37.F 38.E 39.A 40.B
根据上文“Have you ever wondered why a bag of chips is so much more appealing than an apple? The answer lies not in your willpower but in your brain's ancient reward system. Over millions of years, human brains evolved to seek out high-calorie foods because they provided the energy needed for survival.(你是否曾好奇过,为什么一袋薯片比一个苹果更具吸引力?答案并非在于你的意志力,而是在于你大脑中古老的奖赏系统。数百万年来,人类的大脑逐渐进化出寻找高热量食物的本能,因为这些食物能为生存提供所需的能量)”可知,本段讲述人类大脑进化出寻找高热量食物的机制,这在过去有助于生存。G项“However, the same mechanism now works against us in today’s world of cheap calories.(然而,同样的机制现在在热量廉价的世界中对我们不利)”构成转折,引出下文现代食品公司利用这一弱点。
37.根据上文“Modern food companies have learned to use this biological weakness. By combining salt, sugar, and fat in precise ratios, they create what scientists call “highly appealing” foods. These foods cause a much stronger dopamine(多巴胺) release in the brain than natural foods do.(现代食品公司已经学会了利用这种生物上的弱点。通过精确配比盐、糖和脂肪,他们创造出科学家所说的“极具吸引力”的食品。这些食品在大脑中引发的多巴胺释放量比天然食物要多得多)”及空后“As a result, you find yourself reaching for another cookie even when you are not hungry.(结果,即便你不饿,你也忍不住又拿了一块饼干)”可知,上文指出超加工食品引起更强的多巴胺释放,F项“This intense pleasure signal overcomes the brain’s natural fullness signal.(这种强烈的愉悦信号克服了大脑自然的饱腹信号)”符合语境,解释了为何人们即使不饿也会继续吃。
根据下文“Long-term exposure to highly appealing foods can actually rewire your brain's reward circuits. Over time, you need more and more of these foods to feel the same level of pleasure. This is similar to how drug addiction develops. Meanwhile, natural foods like vegetables begin to taste less satisfying by comparison.(长期接触极具吸引力的食品实际上会重新塑造大脑的奖赏回路。随着时间的推移,你需要越来越多的这类食品才能获得同样的愉悦感。这与药物成瘾的发展过程类似。与此同时,像蔬菜这样的天然食物相比之下就变得不那么令人满足了)”可知,本段讨论长期食用超加工食品会重塑大脑奖励回路,产生类似成瘾的效应。E项“That explains why some people lose control around processed foods.(这解释了为什么有些人在加工食品面前失控)”是对这一现象的总结。
39.根据上文“So how can you fight back against your own brain? (那么,你如何对抗自己的大脑呢)”及下文“If you keep unhealthy snacks out of sight or simply do not buy them, you reduce the constant temptation. (如果你把不健康的零食藏起来,或者干脆不买它们,就能减少持续不断的诱惑)”第四段询问如何对抗大脑,随后建议将不健康零食藏起来或不购买。A项“One effective method is to change your food environment.(一个有效的方法是改变你的食物环境)”符合语境,回应了上文的问题,概括了下面的策略。
40.根据上文“Understanding the neuroscience of food preference does not mean you are powerless. (了解关于食物偏好的神经科学就不意味着你毫无办法)”及下文“Small, consistent changes in your daily habits can gradually help your brain learn to prefer healthier options. The key is patience, not punishment.(你每天习惯上的细微且持续的改变能够逐渐帮助你的大脑学会更倾向于选择更健康的选项。关键在于耐心,而非惩罚)”可知,最后一段指出了解神经科学后就会发现还是有办法应对的。B项“Fortunately, you can use this knowledge to your advantage.(幸运的是,你可以利用这个知识为你所用)”承接上文,并引出后文关于通过小改变让大脑逐渐偏好健康选择的建议。

Distant Diplomacy
When danger approaches, many creatures seem to follow the ancient proverb that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.” Recently, researchers 56 (find) subtle ways that animals communicate with other species in this kind of cooperative defense treaty.
For example, Nature Ecology & Evolution carries a recent study 57 (document) more than 20 bird species on four continents that send similar “whining (哀鸣)” calls when they spot brood parasites (寄生繁殖) such as cuckoos. “That call is essentially the word for ‘cuckoo,’” says study co-lead author James Kennerley at Cornell University. “And it’s recruiting individuals to come together 58 this common enemy.”
Brood parasites lay eggs in other birds’ nests, tricking the host birds into raising their chicks for them. At a field site in Australia, Kennerley has witnessed individuals from a dozen or more species 59 (attack) a cuckoo in response to whining calls in chorus. These mobs can be so aggressive that Kennerley needs to cage the specimen 60 (use) in their experiments to protect it. Otherwise the attacking birds would have “just completely torn it to pieces,” Kennerley says.
Many birds also share a common vocabulary for predators. Research by wildlife ecologist Erick Greene shows that various songbirds produce recognizable “seet” calls to warn each other of a flying raptor (猛禽). 61 such high sounds cannot be heard easily by those enemies, they can move safely while receiving danger messages. If the raptor settles, songbirds switch to “mobbing” calls, a distinct sound 62 draws in the troops to drive that raptor off.
Defense is not the only reason for cross-species communication. Among other things, it 63 help birds migrate and enhance food intake. A recent study found that when seabirds with good vision search for food with 64 with strong senses of smell, they both have far greater success at catching krill (磷虾). Unlike with the seep and whining calls, however, it’s unclear 65 they’re signaling to one another on purpose or just randomly following other birds.
56.have been finding 57.documenting 58.against 59.attack 60.used 61.Because 62.that/which 63.may 64.those 65.whether
其结构为“have/has been doing”,主语“researchers”是复数,助动词用have。
“witness sb. do sth.”
此句为宾语从句,作“unclear”的宾语,从句中不缺少成分,且根据“or just randomly following other birds”可知,这里表示“是否”的意思,所以用“whether”引导。

Eight-year-old Sydney Black was upset when a classmate saw her in the hall, laughed, and made fun of the way her back brace (支架) pushed her shoulders up. Suffering from scoliosis (脊柱侧弯) at the age of four, Sydney had to wear a rigid plastic brace for nearly 20 hours a day to prevent her spine (脊柱) from curving further. After moving to a new school in Colorado, she desperately wanted to fit in, but jokes made her feel lonely and different.
But then, a familiar feeling came back to her — the feeling that had given her strength since she first learned about her condition. It was the feeling of struggling, of refusing to give up. She held the quiet certainty that if she kept her head high and kept moving forward, something bigger and brighter was waiting on the other side.
That year, the Easter Bunny brought her a basket with a special doll. The doll’s name was Chelsea, Barbie’s sister, and she, too, wore a back brace for scoliosis.
“She’s just like me!” Sydney told her mother, Nicole, who smiled as the little girl examined every detail, right down to the doll’s curved spine. Sydney played with Chelsea endlessly, bringing the doll everywhere, finding comfort that she was no longer alone. Finally, she felt a bond with another girl just like her. More secure. More accepted.
Weeks later, as Sydney played with the doll in the kitchen while her mother was cooking dinner, she petted Chelsea’s long dark hair and finally voiced what was on her mind. “Mom, I wish that all the girls with scoliosis could have this doll so they don’t ever feel alone either,” she said.
Nicole saw determination and hope in Sydney’s eyes. When asked if she’d share dolls with others facing scoliosis, Sydney agreed eagerly. The family united to support her. Over dinner, they planned to fundraise. After learning about a community sale, they seized the chance to turn Sydney’s wish into action.

They launched their efforts with a juice stand during the community sale. Sydney greeted every passer-by warmly while her mom poured fresh juice into cups. Her father handed out flyers to introduce their meaningful plan. At first, Sydney felt nervous, fearing few people would offer help. Yet soon, kind neighbors stopped by, and she grew cheerful and confident. Many people praised her kindness and donated generously. Everyone was moved by the little girl’s sincere wish to bring warmth to kids like her. As the day went on, their money box was gradually filled with donations.
What began as a goal to donate 50 dolls quickly grew into something much bigger. More local shops and volunteers joined their activity. Sydney was overjoyed to see so much support. They bought dozens of Chelsea dolls and sent them to girls with scoliosis around the area. Those girls wrote back to express their gratitude, saying the dolls helped them shake off loneliness. Sydney never imagined her small idea could light up so many lives. From then on, she kept spreading kindness bravely, proving that love and care can always beat sadness and prejudice.

C

D.Hopeful.

Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word; for the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.
