Cathy Winston is a sports nutritionist.Among her regulars are athletes:Cathy thrives on the
variety, with each new sport providing new challenges and a renewed appreciation of her chosen
field of expertise. In her view, dealing with athletes from various sport backgrounds helps her
become seasoned, which is a key part of being a successful nutritionist."You have to understand
nutrition and people, and then you can begin to work in this field,"she says."Besides,in tennis
you must learn to be reactive, because you don't know how long the match lasts. However,it's 90
minutes in football. So you know what you're fueling for."
Regardless of the sport,Cathy's attitude remains the same-any athlete failing to respect
nutrition is one who is failing to fulfill their potential. It's a key part of the training process. It's
not just something that you take casually. She advises her athletes to hold nutrition in the same
regard as they do their most crucial bit of equipment."Just as you wouldn't forget to put your shin

pads()or your boots in your kit bag, don't forget to put in your drinks and your snacks.
That informs how well you train, because you can't get out if you haven't put in."
Nutritionists are sometimes unfairly represented as militant(斗志昂扬的)types telling what
athletes can and can't eat.But Cathy insists that when to eat is more important than what."It's
about when's the right time to have it in,"she says. It's a message that Cathy says can take a while
to sink in."A lot of boxers say,'but bananas make you fat, right?',and there's this inherent belief
that we mustn't eat those kinds of things. But it's not about what to cut out. It's about making sure
that you've got the foundation right for health and performance. It's that one size fits one. It's
what works for you.To be an excellent athlete, you really need to be an exceptional eater."
24.What does Cathy think about her job?
A.It highly values experience and flexibility.
B.It mainly focuses on the duration of matches.
C.It merely needs to understand nutrition and people.
D.It hardly faces new challenges in every competition.
25.How does Cathy emphasize the importance of nutrition to athletes?
A.By telling a story.
B.By making a comparison.
C.By providing data.
D.By analyzing a phenomenon.
26.What is the key to successful sports nutrition according to Cathy?
A.Following a healthy plan.
B.Timing the diet properly.
C.Cutting out specific foods.
D.Increasing the variety of foods.
27.What does Cathy suggest at the end of the passage?
A.Athletes must eat wisely.
B.Only great athletes eat well.
C.A good eater is always a great athlete.
D.Nutrition matters more than training.

Next time you find yourself feeling sleepy from the pitter-patter of rain outside your window,
think how that same rain might sound if you were a tiny seed planted below a free-falling droplet.
Would you still be sleepy? In fact,MIT engineers have found the opposite to be the case:Some
seeds may come alive to the sound of rain.
Nicholas Makris,a professor of mechanical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, and his team conducted experiments with rice seeds, which naturally grow in shallow
water. They submerged (roughly 8,000 rice seeds in shallow water basins at a depth of
about 2.5 to 3.0 centimeters and exposed them to the sound of falling water droplets impacting
the surface above. The seeds were placed away from the impact zone so that only the sound would
reach them. The team varied the droplet size and height to mimic different rains.
The results were striking.Seeds exposed to the sound of water were able to germinate (
24 to 37 percent faster than those in identical but quiet conditions. In addition, seeds located closer
to the drop impact point sensed the sound better and grew faster.
So how do seeds "hear"raindrops? The researchers explain that when a raindrop hits the
surface of a puddle or the ground,it generates a sound wave that makes the surroundings vibrate
()including any shallowly submerged seeds. These vibrations are intense enough to dislodge
(使移位)a seed's“statoliths'”一tiny gravity-sensing organelles within certain cells of a seed.
Their repeated displacement is a signal for seeds and seedlings to grow and sprout.
The scientists believe that this mechanism offers a biological advantage:If seeds are close
enough to the surface to respond to the sound of rain, they are likely at the perfect depth to take in

water and safely grow to the surface."What this study is saying is that seeds can sense sound in
ways that can help them survive,"says Makris."The energy of the rain sound is enough to
accelerate a seed's growth."
28.What is the main purpose of paragraph 2?
A.To explain the selection of subjects.
B.To highlight a specific research tool.
C.To present the experimental method.
D.To provide the study's scientific basis.
29.How do raindrop sounds make seeds grow?
A.By generating a special kind of signal.
B.By shaking some of their internal structures.
C.By replacing their gravity-sensing organelles.
D.By directly transforming vibrations into energy.
30.What advantage do rain-sensing seeds likely have?
A.Fast root growth.
B.Ideal growth position.
C.Efficient water storage.
D.Excellent hearing ability.
31.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.Secret Senses:How Plants Feel the World
B.Statoliths:The"Brain"Inside a Rice Seed
C.Beyond Sound:How Water Affects Seed Growth
D.A Wake-Up Call:Rain Sounds Drive Seed Growth

Over the past decade, the global aerospace industry has witnessed a major shift from
state-dominated missions to a booming commercial ecosystem,a transformation spearheaded by
breakthroughs in reusable launch vehicle technology and mass-produced small satellites. What
was once an exclusive domain of space agencies and defense contractors has evolved into a
dynamic market where private firms compete fiercely to cut launch costs, expand orbital access,
and profit from space resources.
At the core of this revolution lies reusable rocket technology, pioneered by leading
companies that have mastered vertical takeoff and vertical landing (VTVL)capabilities.Unlike
traditional expendable rockets that are thrown away after one mission, modern reusable boosters
can return to Earth, undergo rapid repair, and lift off again within weeks, cutting per-launch
expenses by up to 70 percent and enabling record launch frequency. This technological leap has
not only opened up access to space but also stimulated a wave of innovation in satellite
communications,deep-space exploration,and in-orbit servicing.
However, this rapid expansion has sparked intense global competition and raised critical
regulatory and environmental concerns. As private companies send thousands of satellites into low
Earth orbit, the risk of space debris (H)collisions and crowding has risen dramatically.
Meanwhile, traditional aerospace powers and emerging space nations alike are racing to establish
regulatory frameworks, secure strategic orbital positions, and protect national security interests in
an increasingly crowded space.
Despite these challenges, industry analysts project the global space economy will go beyond
$800 billion by 2034,with commercial activities accounting for over 80 percent of total value.
Driven by continuous technological innovation, international collaboration, and evolving market
demands, the commercial space revolution shows no signs of slowing down-leading humanity
into a new era of sustainable, inclusive, and commercially vibrant space exploration.

The Power of Peers
Is it true that birds of a feather really flock together?People do tend to make friends who are
similar to them. Many behaviors spread socially.Activities in certain brain areas change when
other people are around.36 We can use the power of social relationships to gain healthier
habits-and motivate others to do the same.
37 Teens are especially responsive to peer (influence. At the same time, the
reward system in the teen brain becomes extra sensitive.Teens are just learning to explore the
social world.Understanding other people's values and being influenced by them are important
parts of socializing.
A research shows that even just having another peer around can change the reward response
in the brain and also the risk-taking tendencies of teenagers. Some people seem to be more easily
influenced than others and more sensitive to feeling included or excluded by others.38
But it's also a time that peer influence can help teens prosper if it gets them more involved with
their community or helps them learn behaviors to get along with others.
It's the quality of friendships-not quantity-that really makes the difference.Friendships
that we want to let go of may be of low quality.39 High quality friendships provide
understanding, support, and recognition of our self-worth.These types of friendships are more
steady and satisfying.
Spending time with friends can be especially helpful for people.Noticing that our behavior is
influenced by other people,we can be intentional and try to focus on the people who are doing the
things we want to get into ourselves.40
A.Adolescence is such a dangerous period.
B.That can influence what we choose to do.
C.Peer pressure gives rise to fierce competition.
D.People of all age groups tend to be affected by what others think.
E.They are linked to poor academic performance and behavioral issues.
F.Sharing our healthy habits could also make a real difference to others.
G.The number of friends we have determines our level of social influence.

The ancient oak tree in the school courtyard served as the traditional"memories bank".On
the final day of senior year, students gathered to bury time capsules-
letters to their future
selves.Mary stood among them, clutching her sealed envelope with a heavy heart.Unlike others
filled with hopes and dreams, hers contained a painful confession she had carried for three
long years.
Her mind flashed back to the science lab, where her curiosity had led to disaster.Reaching
for the school's antique microscope, she accidentally knocked it from the table. It broke into two
parts. She quickly picked them up and put them together. At this moment, the door opened
revealing Ben,a quiet classmate, with Mr.Davies behind him.Ben came to fetch the microscope
for an experiment.Hardly had he touched the microscope when it split into two parts.
To Mary's astonishment,Ben quietly claimed responsibility."I was moving it and it slipped,"
he murmured, accepting the teacher's disappointment that should have been hers.Mary watched
in guilty silence as he bore the blame she deserved.
Now,watching Ben place his own letter in the hole and offer her a sad smile,Mary held the
envelope tightly in her hand. The breeze rustled the oak leaves like whispering voices. She looked
from the freshly dug earth to Ben's figure, wondering if burying her truth was truly how she
wanted to end her high school story.

Paragraph 1:
Just as the dirt was about to cover the capsules,Mary suddenly stepped forward. She raised
her hand to stop the others, her eyes fixed on Ben.With a shaky voice, she told the story of the
science lab incident-how she'd knocked over the antique microscope, how Ben had silently
taken the blame, and the guilt that had haunted her ever since. As she spoke, her gaze never left
Ben's,and tears glistened in her eyes. The courtyard grew quiet, with only the rustle of oak leaves
accompanying her words.
Paragraph 2:
After telling the truth,Mary felt a light tap on her shoulder. She turned to see Ben,his
previous sadness replaced by a calm expression."I've waited three years to hear you say that,"he
said softly.Mary felt the weight in her chest lift instantly,a wave of relief washing over her.She
smiled back at Ben,then bent down to place her envelope into the hole-no longer carrying regret,
but the peace of finally telling the truth.

根据第五段中的“If seeds are close enough to the surface to respond to
the sound of rain, they are likely at the perfect depth to take in water and safely grow to the
选项D中的Wake-Up Call'巧妙呼应第一段的“come alive'”和“sleepy'”的对

根据第一段中的“Over the past decade, the global aerospace industry has
witnessed a major shift from state-dominated missions to a booming commercial ecosystem",
Unlike traditional expendable rockets that are thrown
away after one mission, modern reusable boosters can return to Earth, undergo rapid repair, and
lift off again within weeks'”可知,传统火箭与可重复使用的现代火箭形成对比一一传统火箭在
B“High-cost'
Despite these challenges...project the global space economy
will go beyond $800 billion...shows no signs of slowing down -leading humanity into a new
era..
选项A(强烈批判)、B(极度悲观)、D(完全冷漠)均不符。
选项A(仅传统航天历史)、B(仅环境风险)、
C(仅卫星竞争)均表达片面。

This is a notification to inform you that our new campus is still under construction, and it won't
be finished until the end of May.The P.E.classes will still take place at the old campus this semester,
because the new gym will take another three months to complete. Please don't forget to take

shoes scattered all around the gym last week.We really hope that such behavior will not happen
in the new gym.The chemistry laboratory will have two doors. One will open straight to the
schoolyard, and the other one will lead to the nearby canteen. It's very important for students not
to enter the laboratory with food. Those who do it will be punished.Everyone will need a new card
to enter the new teaching building. There will be an electronically controlled door that requires
scanning the card.As there will be no more guards, you can't enter the building if you forget your
card. And,remember to be at the school bus stop several minutes before the scheduled time. The
drivers won't wait for you for more than a minute.
