Step 1 Lead-in
Review:

Something about the support we needed
Design Intent: To activate students’ prior knowledge of the interview about Orbis by reviewing its four main aspects (blindness, Orbis, Dr Ma’s work, and the support needed). This structured recall serves as a thematic and linguistic warm-up, linking the upcoming detailed language study to the familiar context of the text and ensuring a smooth transition from global comprehension to focused language analysis.

Design Intent: To systematically present, explain and practice the core vocabulary and sentence patterns from the text. Each item is introduced through the original sentence, followed by clear usage guidance and controlled practice (e.g., gap-filling, translation). This stage builds students' understanding of form, meaning and use, with special attention to easily confused items (e.g., suffer vs. suffer from, treat vs. cure) and correct collocations.
Step 3 Practice
Many people around the world (1) _________________ serious illnesses, but they never give up.

Design Intent: To provide an integrated application context for the learned language points. The cloze passage, centred on the work of medical charities, creates a new but closely related scenario. It challenges students to select and use appropriate vocabulary based on meaning, grammar, and context, thereby bridging isolated vocabulary learning and comprehensive use. This step fosters both linguistic accuracy and strategic competence while reinforcing the unit’s charitable theme.
Step 4 homework
Must do
Write a short passage to introduce Orbis.
Choose to do
Make a short video according to the passage you write and post it on line to make more people know Orbis.
Design Intent: To consolidate and extend learning beyond the classroom. The must-do task (writing a short introduction to Orbis) requires students to synthesise the newly acquired language in a coherent piece of discourse, promoting meaningful output. The choose-to-do task (making a short video) caters to different learning preferences and encourages creative, authentic use of English for a real-world purpose—raising public awareness of Orbis. This layered assignment differentiates instruction and deepens students’ engagement with the unit’s moral and social message.
