This is Chris reporting on this year's art festival. This is the third year and the time is a bit different for the last couple of years. It's been around the tenth to the seventeen th of january. But this year, IT will be held at the end of the month, and it's going to be the biggest we've ever seen. The program has theater concerts and also a large number of art shows, but the festival is most famous for its great ballet performances. Today, i'm going to tell you about two, but there are plenty of others in the program. The first is a classical one given by russian dancers at forty five dollars. It's very expensive anyway. It's really for adult tastes. The second performance is by a modern italian valley. An interesting feature of IT is that the performers are so Young, the Youngest is only fourteen, and it's to the tastes of both the Young and the old. Well, that's all for me for today, but i'll be back next week with more news of what's worth seeing. Good evening. This is Chris reporting on this year's art festival. Dear Alex,
I’m writing to invite you to take part in our school’s radio program “Reading Poems for You”.
Launched recently, this weekly program invites teachers and students to read and share a favorite poem every week. It aims to bring the beauty of poetry to everyone on campus and create a peaceful, inspiring moment in our busy school life. Each session includes a short introduction to the poem and the reader’s personal thoughts about it.
We would be truly honored if you could join us and share a poem you love — perhaps one from your culture or an English poem that touches you. Your participation would surely bring a fresh perspective. Looking forward to your positive reply!
Yours,
Li Hua
During the party, the contributors began to share the new things they tried. One learned rock climbing in her fifties despite a fear of heights, and another took up painting even though she thought she had no talent. All of them talked about the fear at first, and also the joy of pushing past it. Listening to their stories, I felt ashamed. I’d been writing about stepping out of the comfort zone, yet I was scared of a little mud. Their courage touched me, and I messaged my trainer right then: I’m in for the Mud Girl Run. It wasn’t just a race — it was exactly the challenge I needed to walk the talk.
The day of the race came and I got up very early in the morning. Arriving at the race, I could not help but feel the excitement of being a part of a group of crazy women. My trainer waved me over, and as I joined the crowd, my fear softened. The race began! I climbed, crawled, and pulled myself through each obstacle. Every time I completed one, I felt a new strength growing inside me. When I finally saw the finish line, a wave of excitement washed over me. I made it! At fifty-three, I rediscovered the joy of playing and found a fiercer self, proving that the greatest adventures lie just outside our comfort zone.

B
I spent many of these years wishing I were a brain in a vat (培养皿): brains in vats don’t get let down by their bodies. On account of the pains caused by Lyme disease and endometriosis, I’d find myself seeking out distraction on a screen, trying to forget I had a body at all.
One day, one of those distractions changed my life for good. I came across a video for Justin Peck’s ballet Year of the Rabbit. From that moment on, I fell in love with ballet. I longed to try dancing myself. Luckily for me, there was a dance studio right down the street from my apartment. On a day when I felt well enough, I gathered my courage and enrolled in a class. Sue, the studio owner and primary instructor, loved teaching the basics of ballet. She took extra care to point out when students did something well, and took equal joy in the unique ways they made mistakes.
The more time I spent in Sue’s studio, the more I began to relate to my body in a new way. Learning to dance was a transformation of mind as much of body. After frustrating me for so long, my body even began to be a source of accomplishment and pride. It made me realize that even my sick body had much more potential than I’d realized.
Being human means being vulnerable — getting sick and hurt, and getting older too. But those same bodies that cause us grief also make it possible to live full and meaningful lives. Ballet continually reminds me that having a body — and being human — is beautiful, even when it’s hard. And it’s much more fun than being a brain in a vat.
24.Why did the author wish to be “a brain in a vat” at the beginning?
A.To escape her responsibilities.
B.To free herself from a sick body.
C.To focus entirely on intellectual life.
D.To abandon herself to virtual pleasure.
25.Which can best describe Sue’s teaching style?
A.Attentive and supportive. B.Passionate but impatient.
C.Professional and traditional. D.Demanding but encouraging.
26.What does the underlined word “vulnerable” in the last paragraph mean?
A.Ordinary. B.Sensitive. C.Delicate. D.Humble.
27.Which would be the best title for the text?
A.Discovering fun in a ballet studio. B.Finding strength in my weak body.
C.Accepting myself by fighting illness. D.Embracing my body through ballet.
【答案】24.B 25.A 26.C 27.D
根据第一段“I spent many of these years wishing I were a brain in a vat (培养皿): brains in vats don’t get let down by their bodies. On account of the pains caused by Lyme disease and endometriosis, I’d find myself seeking out distraction on a screen, trying to forget I had a body at all.( 在那些年里,我常常希望自己能变成一个“培养皿里的大脑”:大脑不会因身体的不适而受到影响。由于患有莱姆病和子宫内膜异位症,我常常会通过屏幕寻求消遣,试图忘却自己拥有身体这一事实。)”可知,作者因莱姆病和子宫内膜异位症饱受身体疼痛折磨,希望自己只是培养皿里的大脑,是为了摆脱病痛的身体。故选B项。
25.推理判断题。根据第二段中“Sue, the studio owner and primary instructor, loved teaching the basics of ballet. She took extra care to point out when students did something well, and took equal joy in the unique ways they made mistakes.( 工作室的老板兼主要教练苏热爱教授芭蕾舞的基础知识。她会特别留意学生表现好的地方,并同样为他们独特的犯错方式而感到欣喜。)”可知,文中提到苏格外用心指出学生的优点,也乐于看待学生犯错的独特方式,说明她细心且善于鼓励支持学生。故选A项。
根据划线单词句中“Being human means being … — getting sick and hurt, and getting older too. (作为人类就意味着会……——会生病、会受伤,也会逐渐衰老。)”可知,划线词后解释“会生病、受伤、变老”,可推知vulnerable意为“脆弱的”,与C选项delicate“脆弱的,易受伤的”含义相近。故选C项。
27.主旨大意题。根据文章大意以及最后一段中“But those same bodies that cause us grief also make it possible to live full and meaningful lives. Ballet continually reminds me that having a body — and being human — is beautiful, even when it’s hard. And it’s much more fun than being a brain in a vat.( 但正是这些让我们感到痛苦的身体,却也让我们能够过上充实而有意义的生活。芭蕾舞一直让我明白,拥有身体——作为人类——本身就是一种美好,即便过程艰难。而且这比把自己困在一个无生命的容器里要有趣得多。)”可知,文章讲述作者因病痛厌恶身体,后通过芭蕾重新认识、接纳自己的身体,感悟到身为人类拥有身体的美好,D 项“通过芭蕾拥抱自己的身体”最贴合主旨,适合作为文章的标题。故选D项。
C
A failure to interpret modern slang or memes is raising serious concerns about youngsters’ online safety. Generation Alpha’s internet language is evolving at a pace that teachers, parents, and AI models cannot match, potentially exposing youth to bullying and grooming that trusted adults and AI-based safety systems fail to flag.
To investigate this gap, Manisha Mehta, a 14-year-old student, and researcher Fausto Giunchiglia collected 100 expressions popular with Generation Alpha (born 2010-2025) from gaming and social media platforms. The pair asked 24 volunteers aged 11 to 14 to analyze the phrases alongside context-specific screenshots. They had to explain the context and identifying any potential safety concerns. The study also tested parents, professional moderators, and four major AI models, including GPT-4, Claude, Gemini, and Llama3.
Mehta noted her fascination with the “unique” and “rapid” way Gen Alpha language evolves. The study results highlighted this complexity: while 98% of Gen Alpha volunteers understood the terms and 92% could detect when they were used to cause harm, AI models recognized harmful use in only around 40% of cases (ranging from 32.5% for Llama3 to 42.3% for Claude). Parents and professional moderators performed even worse, spotting only about a third of harmful uses.
The difficulty lies in phrases with double meanings dependent on context. For example, “Let him cook” can be genuine praise or a mocking sneer implying nonsense. “Kys” has evolved from “know yourself” to the abusive “kill yourself.” Similarly, “is it acoustic” is used to mockingly question if someone is autistic (孤独症).
Mehta emphasizes that it is critical for Large Language Models (LLMs) to understand this dialogue as they become prevalent (盛行的) in content review. Michael Veale from University College London adds that this work indicates major deficiencies (缺陷) in safety systems. He warns that companies and regulators must pay close attention and react to these gaps to remain subject to global laws aimed at protecting younger people.

根据第一段中“Generation Alpha’s internet language is evolving at a pace that teachers, parents, and AI models cannot match, potentially exposing youth to bullying and grooming that trusted adults and AI-based safety systems fail to flag.(阿尔法一代的网络语言发展速度快到教师、家长和人工智能模型都跟不上,可能让青少年遭受成年人和人工智能安全系统识别不出的欺凌与不良诱导)”可知,阿尔法一代俚语的主要问题是变化太快,人工智能与成年人无法识别风险。故选D。
根据第三段中“while 98% of Gen Alpha volunteers understood the terms and 92% could detect when they were used to cause harm, AI models recognized harmful use in only around 40% of cases (ranging from 32.5% for Llama3 to 42.3% for Claude). Parents and professional moderators performed even worse, spotting only about a third of harmful uses.(98%的阿尔法一代志愿者能理解这些用语,92%的人能够发现它们被用来造成伤害的情况,而人工智能模型只能识别出约40%的有害使用情况(从Llama3的32.5%到Claude的42.3%不等)。家长和专业版主的表现更差,只发现了约三分之一的有害使用情况)”可知,阿尔法一代孩子最擅长发现有害含义。故选D。
30.推理判断题。根据第四段中“The difficulty lies in phrases with double meanings dependent on context. For example, “Let him cook” can be genuine praise or a mocking sneer implying nonsense.(困难在于那些根据上下文有双重含义的短语。例如,“Let him cook”可以是真诚的赞扬,也可以是带有嘲讽意味的冷笑,暗示胡说八道)”可知,作者提到“Let him cook”是为了说明含义如何根据上下文而变化。故选C。
31.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是根据第一段中“A failure to interpret modern slang or memes is raising serious concerns about youngsters’ online safety. Generation Alpha’s internet language is evolving at a pace that teachers, parents, and AI models cannot match, potentially exposing youth to bullying and grooming that trusted adults and AI-based safety systems fail to flag.(无法解读现代俚语或表情包引发了人们对青少年网络安全的严重担忧。
D
You’re probably aware that your coffee drink or bakery is loaded with sugar. But did you know that large amounts of added sugar are also in your breakfast cereal (谷类食物), dairy-free milk alternative and even takeout fried chicken?
“Americans are simply consuming too much sugar,” says Frank Hu, a professor of nutrition. Most people consume three times the recommended daily limit of sugar. And it’s not just a harmless habit.
Even if you’ve gotten the message that too much sugar isn’t good for your health and are taking steps to cut back, like switching to “low-sugar” baked goods and diet soda, you haven’t solved the issue and you may have created a new problem.
Since the 1990s, aspartame (阿斯巴甜代糖也称人工甜味剂) has been widely used as a sugar substitute (替代品) in products such as diet drinks, yogurt and breakfast cereal. But the sweetener has come under thorough examination following a July 2023 statement from the International Agency for Research on Cancer that officially classified aspartame as “possibly carcinogenic (致癌的) to humans.”
So what’s the answer? Ultimately, we need to rethink our relationship with the sweet stuff. For the most part, the sugars that naturally occur in an apple, a sweet potato or a glass of milk aren’t an issue. It’s the sugar introduced during the manufacturing of a jarred pasta sauce or when you stir a spoonful of sugar into your coffee, for example, that’s harming your health.
When you eat or drink something with added sugar, your blood sugar and insulin (胰岛素) rise sharply. On the other hand, when you chew a bowl of fresh berries, the whole fruit contains fiber and other compounds that slow how quickly the sugar is digested, so your blood sugar doesn’t rise in the same way.
Definitely, consuming not only less added sugar but also sugar substitutes over time is bound to make your life a whole lot sweeter.
32.What can we probably infer in paragraph 1?
A.The writer shows his own puzzle. B.People ignore an issue about sugar.
C.People take action to give up sugar. D.Bakery has less sugar than dairy-free milk.
33.Which food or drink may do less harm to our health in the text?
A.Breakfast cereal. B.Diet drinks. C.Coffee drink. D.A sweet potato.
34.Why do people fail to consume less sugar?
A.More sugary snacks are produced. B.Foods without sugar pose more health risks.
C.Sugar substitutes exist in many foods and drinks. D.Compounds in sugar are reported to be carcinogenic.
35.Which is the most suitable title according to the text?
A.Aspartame Should replace sugar? B.The Bitter Truth About Sugar
C.Keep Away From Sugar D.Sugar Talks Sweetly
根据第一段“You’re probably aware that your coffee drink or bakery is loaded with sugar. But did you know that large amounts of added sugar are also in your breakfast cereal (谷类食物), dairy-free milk alternative and even takeout fried chicken?(你可能意识到你的咖啡饮料或烘焙食品中含有大量的糖。但是你知道吗,在你的早餐麦片、无乳牛奶替代品甚至外卖炸鸡中也含有大量的添加糖?)”可知,从第一段我们可以推断出人们忽略了糖的问题。故选B。
33.细节理解题。根据倒数第三段“For the most part, the sugars that naturally occur in an apple, a sweet potato or a glass of milk aren’t an issue.(在大多数情况下,苹果、红薯或一杯牛奶中天然存在的糖都不是问题。)”
根据第四段“Since the 1990s, aspartame (阿斯巴甜代糖也称人工甜味剂) has been widely used as a sugar substitute (替代品) in products such as diet drinks, yogurt and breakfast cereal.(自20世纪90年代以来,阿斯巴甜已被广泛用作无糖饮料、酸奶和早餐麦片等产品中的代糖。)”
通读全文,尤其是第一段“You’re probably aware that your coffee drink or bakery is loaded with sugar. But did you know that large amounts of added sugar are also in your breakfast cereal (谷类食物), dairy-free milk alternative and even takeout fried chicken?(你可能意识到你的咖啡饮料或烘焙食品中含有大量的糖。

Sure, as a child, I made mud patties and loved to play in the sandbox and build sandcastles at the beach, but at fifty-three years old I couldn’t imagine myself playing in the dirt, much less mud. The thought of getting wet in mud and struggling through obstacles felt daunting (使人畏惧的) and far from my daily routine.
It started so casually. Six months earlier, while we were warming up for a workout, the trainer at my gym announced that she was signing up for the Mud Girl Run, a 5km obstacle race dedicated to women, with money going to breast cancer research. She asked if anyone wanted to join her team.
I really didn’t know much about it. My first response was just to keep my head down, as clearly she wasn’t directing the question at me. After all, I complained each time we were told to run a simple lap in the parking lot. Obviously, she didn’t care that I was ignoring the conversation because suddenly she singled me out, directly asking if I was going to sign up.
My response was, “I’ll have to check my calendar.”
After being a member of her gym for over a year, she seemed to know me too well and replied, “You don’t have anything on your calendar six months from now. Didn’t you just tell me you were working on a book about getting out of your comfort zone and saying yes to new opportunities?”
She had a point, and I did envy those who were willing to commit to trying new things. Still, I spent the next few months coming up with every excuse I could to cancel. It was around the same time that a magazine had scheduled a Get Out of Your Comfort Zone online party, during which story contributors would meet each other online. I would attend the party since I was a regular contributor to it.
During the party, the contributors began to share the new things they tried.

____________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】

28.What is the main problem with Gen Alpha’s slang?
A.It is too rude for parents. B.It is banned by schools and games.
C.It is too hard for teenagers to understand. D.It changes too fast for AI and adults to spot risks.
29.What did the study find to be TRUE?
A.AI models found over 90% of the harmful content.
B.Parents were better at finding harmful slang than AI.
C.Context screenshots did not help explain the phrases.
D.Gen Alpha kids were the best at spotting harmful meanings.
30.Why does the author mention “Let him cook”?
A.To show Gen Alpha likes cooking. B.To show slang has lost its meaning.
C.To show how meaning changes based on context. D.To give an example of a phrase AI cannot translate.
31.What is the best title for this text?
A.Internet language is evolving rapidly. B.Gen AI doesn’t understand Gen Alpha.
C.Gen Alpha slang makes safety systems fail. D.Kids should be protected in a digital world.
