The Lion and the Mouse
Long long ago, there was a lion in the forest. He was very large and strong. One day, when he was sleeping under a tree, a little mouse walked by. So the lion was woken up. He was very angry. “I will eat you,” he shouted. The little mouse was scared. He said, “Maybe I can help you one day. Please let me go. Please!” “How can you help me? You are so weak and small!” the lion laughed. He thought a while and then let the little mouse go.
A few days later, the lion found itself caught in a net. How hopeless he was! Then the little mouse appeared. He began to bite the net with his teeth. At last, the lion got out. “Thank you so much, little mouse!” the lion said.
From then on, the lion and the mouse became good friends.

The children were digging in the gravel pit. The spade struck something. “I think it was a rabbit-hole,” said Jane, “there might be baby rabbits.”
“Let’s get it out,” said Cyril. The hole grew larger. Suddenly Robert dropped his spade and knelt down in the sand.” “Look!” he cried.“You can see it now—it isn’t a rabbit-hole—it’s a sort of cave. Look!”
They all knelt down and looked. There certainly was something dark—a sort of hairy, furry darkness. Then suddenly this dark something moved and with one spring the Sand-fairy was out of the sand and sitting on the gravel.
It was exactly like a fat spider, or a mole, or a rat—or perhaps more like all three mixed together. It had legs and arms and hands and feet like a monkey’s, and its face was very like a monkey’s too, except that it had ears like a bat’s ears, and its eyes were on long stalks like a snail’s eyes.
“Don’t be frightened,” said Anthea kindly. “We won’t hurt you.”
“I’m not frightened,” said the Sand-fairy. “I’m only angry. You wake me up out of my thousand years’ sleep.”
“Who are you?” asked Robert.
“I’m a Psammead,” it said angrily. “A sand-fairy. And I can give you anything you wish for—one wish a day, and the wish lasts till sunset.”
“How perfectly lovely!” said Jane.
“Don’t interrupt,” said the Sand-fairy. “I must have my sleep out. I’ve been asleep since long before you were born, and I want to go on sleeping till long after you’re dead.”
“Please,” said Anthea politely, “couldn’t you give us just one wish now?”
The Psammead blew itself out and said, “Very well. What do you want?”
The children whispered together. Then Anthea said, “We wish we were all as beautiful as the day.”
The Sand-fairy blew itself out still more, then suddenly collapsed. “Done!” it said.
“And now go away and don’t bother me.”
They looked at each other. Nothing seemed changed. Then Jane cried, “Oh! Your faces—your clothes—everything!”
They were indeed beautiful—their faces perfect, their clothes changed into splendid silks and velvets. Excited and happy, they ran home to show Martha. But when she opened the door, she screamed, “Get away with you!” and slammed it in their faces.

Sometimes, we remember our childhood neighborhood just as well, or even better than, our childhood homes. For both children and grown—ups, neighborhoods are a place to play, learn, and keep in mind.
In most parts of Canadian suburbs (市郊), almost everyone on the block(街道) knows each other. Coming home together on the bus is usually just the beginning of neighboring children spending time together. Whether it’s playing soccer or running after each other around on bikes, kids often take advantage of the daylight to get some fresh air outside. When it’s hot, children can swim in a pool together. And when it’s cold, they can have snowball fights with one another.
Grown—ups also take advantage of living in a community by taking care of their neighbors. It’s convenient for neighbors to become friends because they live so close together. Neighbors will often help to look after their babies or pets.
If someone holds a party, neighbors might lend some space for guests to park their cars in. And if a postman mixes up the mail, neighbors are more than happy to return it back to its owner.
Having kind and caring neighbors can make a world of difference in how a person thinks of their home. To some people, a home may not be just the house they live in, but also the community they are a part of. Neighborhoods, just like homes, come in all different shapes and sizes. Some neighbor—hoods may have over 100 people, while others may only have a few people. But whatever the size, neighborhoods can be a powerful and memorable part of our lives, filled with neighbors well always remember.

原句使用的是固定句型“It takes/took sb. some time to do sth.”,表示“做某事花费某人多少时间”,其中It是形式主语。改写句以人“I”作主语,应使用句型“Sb. spend/spends some time (in) doing sth.”,表示“某人花费多少时间在做某事”;原句谓语动词“took”是过去式,因此改写句的谓语动词spend也需用过去式spent。
47. nothing lose
48. gave up
stop smoking=give up smoking“戒烟”。 故填gave;up。
49.in the face of
将“when facing”替换为更地道的短语 “in the face of”表示“面对……时”。“give up” 是固定短语“放弃”,后接介词短语 “in the face of…” 故填in the face of。
50. lend to
故填lend;to。

51.had better reach/ had better get to /had better arrive at
“到达”对应动词reach(及物动词,后直接接地点)、get to或arrive at(不及物动词,需加介词)。故填had better reach/had better get to / had better arrive at 。
52. too to
是关键词,too...to...
53. looked up passing by
54. failed the Maths exam
故填failed;the;Maths;exam。
55. took out
根据“gave it to me”可知,本句时态为一般过去时,动词take需变为过去式took。
On a sunny September morning, Bobbie, Peter, and Phyllis walked along the railway near their home. The autumn sun made everything look warm and golden. Bobbie was placing small white stones on the ground to spell “HELLO” for the passing train drivers to see—something she often did for fun.
“Look! There’s smoke coming from that old red building!” Phyllis suddenly shouted.
Peter, always the bravest, moved closer carefully and pushed the door open. Inside, they saw something that made their hearts beat fast—a man was sitting on the dirty floor, his left wrist (手腕) locked with a metal chain to a big iron pipe! His face was dirty with black marks like coal dust, and his shirt showed a bleeding cut on his arm.
“Water…please…” the man said weakly. Though he looked poor and tired, Bobbie noticed he spoke like a well-educated man. Quickly, she gave him their water bottle while Phyllis used her hair ribbon to tie around his wounded arm.
“My name…is Jim,” the man said. “They stole my important papers…I need to catch the 11:15 train to London…” Just then, the loud whistle of a coming train made Peter rush to close the door so nobody outside would hear them.
When Mother arrived with the village policeman later that evening, the building was empty. The broken chain lay on the floor like a dead snake, and the only signs left were footprints. But Bobbie noticed something shiny in the dirt, a gold button with a special design.
That night, Bobbie heard the familiar whistle of the 11:15 train passing by. But tonight it sounded different—two short calls instead of one. The train’s yellow lights went through the darkness like fireflies running along the railway.

A.Making friends with your neighbors is easy. B.Having nice neighbors makes no difference.
C.Neighborhoods are an important part of life. D.Most Canadians love living in small communities.
25.What may be the structure(结构) of the passage?
A. B.
