Text 1
M: Hi Michelle. I haven’t seen your dad in a long time. How is he? Is he still driving a taxi?
W: Actually no. He’s running an Italian restaurant downtown.
Text 2
W: Hi Harry. Are you going to go running or play volleyball as usual this weekend?
M: Tom likes neither. We all like badminton, so I’ll think about that.
Text 3
M: Are we going to our tennis class by bike today? The weather’s good.
W: Yes, it’s sunny but not too hot. But I’ve got a problem with my back wheel. Maybe we can go by bus or just walk.
M: We could walk. It’s not far.
Text 4
M: Julia, are you coming shopping with me and Mom this afternoon?
W: To buy your new skateboard? I’d love to, but I’m meeting my classmate Grace. We’re going to see that new Chinese cartoon.
M: Okay. And Mom wants to go to the new cafe on Bridge Street.
W: Great, they sell fantastic cakes.
Text 5
M: How did you enjoy the weekend? I thought it was great.
W: That’s true. I loved camping out under the stars and sitting around the fire at night with our guitars.
M: Yeah, me too. I really enjoyed it.
Text 6
W: ⑥Hi, Rob. The new shopping center has been open for six months now, hasn’t it?
M: ⑥Actually, it has been open since February. To be exact, it’s about eight months.
W: I see. ⑦Now, could you tell us a bit about the garden there?
M: In summer this is a big attraction. ⑦There is a lake where you can ride in small boats. But fishing is strictly forbidden at all times. There’s also a cafe next to the lake with its own play area. You can enjoy coffee, chat with your friends and take wonderful photos there. But sports are not allowed.
W: Well, it does sound like a special place.
Text 7 (第8题为推断题)
W: Gareth, got a minute? We are expected to choose a new school course. What’s your idea?
M: Shall we start with Creative Writing? I’d like to learn fiction writing.
W: Um, I don’t think so. ⑨How about Communication Skills? I’m sure it’s useful for future presentations.
M: Good point. What about Money Management? We always spend too much.
W: But we aren’t earning money yet. How about Home Economics like cooking, cleaning or fixing things?
M: I’m not sure about that. I prefer Computer Programming for game design.
W: ⑩But Home Economics seems best. It can help us master different skills and the teacher is quite interesting,
M: ⑩Agreed. Let’s go for that.
Text 8
W: Excuse me, I’d like to book two train tickets to Chengdu tomorrow morning, please.
M: ⑪Okay. What time would you like to go?
W: Sometime around 10 o’clock to avoid the crowds if possible.
M: Got it. We have trains at 9:37, 10:15 and 10:38.
W: ⑪The one at 10:15 sounds good.
M: All right. Would you like to sit in first or second class?
W: Second class is fine, thanks. ⑫Is there any chance we could have a window seat for one of those?
M: No problem. And I booked the seats next to each other for you. The total price is 90 yuan.
W: We’ll be taking our bicycles with us. Will it cost extra?
M: No. When the train arrives, just tell the train guard your destination and he will help you secure the bicycles in the last carriage and give you a ticket. ⑬Then you can take your seats, hand the ticket to the guard to get your bicycles back when you arrive in Chengdu.
W: Thank you.
Text 9
W: Jackie, welcome to the show. You’ve won gold and silver medals in international events. ⑭Did you first develop a passion for athletics as a young child?
M: ⑭I was introduced to athletics in secondary school and then I got a scholarship to university because of my performance on the school athletics team. I guess I was really passionate about athletics from about 13 years old.
W: So was it your school teachers that helped you start a career in sports?
M: Not really. ⑮I had great school teachers and now I have the best coaches, but it’s always been my father that has supported me and told me I can achieve anything I want.
W: ⑯Tell us about winning your first gold medal. You must have been so excited.
M: The funny thing is that I was lost in my own world during that race.
W: Do you mean you were too tired to feel anything?
M: No, not at all. ⑯I hadn’t realized I was the winner and I couldn’t believe it when I looked up and there was no one ahead of me.
W: So…

M: Hi, everyone. ⑰I want to share with you what it’s like being on a cooking show. Many people think it’s easy, ⑳but actually it’s very stressful. I usually arrive at the studio around 7 a.m. ⑱First, I meet with the producer and we go through the script for the day. ⑰Then I go to the dressing room to change into my chef’s uniform. After that, the make-up artist makes sure I look good on camera. This usually takes only about 15 minutes because I don’t wear much make-up. We begin filming at around 9 a.m. ⑲But things don’t always go smoothly. ⑲Sometimes the cameras don’t work or the sound is not clear, so we have to wait. When everything is ready, I start cooking and talking to the camera at the same time. It’s hard to do both. We usually finish by 5 p.m., but it depends on how many mistakes we make. After filming, I take off my uniform, say good bye to the team and go home to rest. ⑳It’s a long day, but I love sharing my recipes with the audience.

Less Screen, More Life
It’s common to witness many of us high school students constantly glued to our screens, losing ourselves in endless social media feeds or online games. This excessive screen time often results in diminished concentration, reduced outdoor activities, and less meaningful interaction.
To solve this, we should practice a digital minimalism lifestyle by carefully choosing digital tools that are useful while reducing distractions. For instance, removing entertaining apps or designating the first hour after dinner as a “tech-free” hour for family conversation or reading can greatly boost our study efficiency. By focusing more on offline activities like school clubs or sports, we can rediscover the joy of face-to-face communication. This change will finally lead to a more balanced and fulfilling life.
Let us embrace digital minimalism to save our precious time. Together, we can build a healthier campus environment.

Lin Yue took a deep breath and walked over to Ruby. Her heart was pounding with a mixture of fear and hope. Ruby looked up, surprise flickering across her face, her eyes searching Lin Yue’s with a quiet hope. “I’m sorry,” Lin Yue whispered, her voice trembling slightly, “for not listening.” Ruby’s expression softened, a small smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. Without a word, she reached out and gently touched Lin Yue’s hand—a silent peace offering. That simple gesture, warm and forgiving, melted the ice between them, the two girls silently agreeing to put their differences aside and finish the presentation together.
On the presentation day, they stood together before the class. Ruby kicked things off with a lively quiz that got everyone laughing, while Lin Yue followed with clear explanations that tied everything together. They took turns naturally—Ruby’s playful questions setting up Lin Yue’s thoughtful answers, and Lin Yue’s solid facts giving Ruby’s jokes a place to land. Their contrasting styles, once a battlefield, now wove into something beautiful. As applause filled the room, they exchanged a knowing smile. Differences hadn’t disappeared—but friendship, they realized, wasn’t about erasing them. It was about making room for them to shine.

2025 marked a new chapter for cultural exchange between China and Germany, especially in the field of ceramic art. This cross-cultural dialogue was led by Li Wei, a renowned Chinese ceramic artist who has dedicated over 20 years to reviving traditional Jingdezhen porcelain techniques while blending modern design elements.
Li’s latest project, named “Clay & Creativity”, was mounted at the Berlin University of the Arts in March. The initiative brought together 15 design students from Germany’s top art schools and 10 Chinese ceramic craftsmen for a three-month collaborative program. Unlike typical cultural exchange events that only showcase finished artworks, “Clay & Creativity” focused on hands-on learning: students learned to shape porcelain using ancient Chinese methods, while craftsmen absorbed Western concepts of minimalism and functional design.
Li was not the only one bridging cultural gaps through ceramic art. International brands have also recognized the value of combining Eastern craftsmanship with Western design. In April, luxury homeware brand Villeroy & Boch partnered with a Jingdezhen ceramic studio to create a limited-edition tableware series. Meanwhile, the German Design Council organized a workshop in Shanghai, inviting Chinese artisans to share their skills with European designers. However, Li’s project stood out for its emphasis on grassroots interaction rather than commercial cooperation. “True cultural exchange happens when people create together, not just trade products,” Li explained in an interview with a design magazine.
One of the standout participants was Lina Schmidt, a twenty-two-year-old German student. Her final piece — a porcelain teapot that merged Chinese blue-and-white patterns with German Bauhaus geometric shapes — was selected to be exhibited at the Munich Design Museum later this year. “Working with Master Li completely changed my understanding of ceramic art,” Schmidt said. “He taught us that tradition isn’t a fixed rule but a living language that can be reimagined. This experience made me realize how much Eastern and Western design can learn from each other.”
24.What is the main focus of Li Wei’s “Clay & Creativity” project?
A.Training craftsmen in Western design concepts.
B.Showcasing finished ceramic artworks in Berlin.
C.Promoting commercial trade of porcelain products.
D.Offering hands-on collaborative learning experiences.
25.Why does the author mention Villeroy & Boch and the German Design Council?
A.To illustrate broader efforts in cultural integration.
B.To highlight the popularity of Jingdezhen porcelain.
C.To compare their approaches with Li Wei’s project.
D.To prove the commercial value of modern ceramic art.
26.What makes Li Wei’s project different from other similar initiatives?
A.It involves more international students and craftsmen.
B.It has received support from top international brands.
C.It aims to revive traditional Chinese porcelain techniques.
D.It focuses on grassroots creative cooperation instead of business.
27.What does Lina Schmidt think of her experience with Li Wei?
A.It helped her master fixed traditional ceramic rules.
B.It made her realize the superiority of Eastern design.
C.It encouraged her to focus on commercial ceramic design.
D.It inspired her to combine different design styles creatively.

The fountain (喷泉) show of a famous hotel, on the Las Vegas Strip, attracts many visitors every day. But on Tuesday, March 5, this tradition had to be stopped for a unique guest. A yellow-billed loon, a bird not usually found on the mainland of the U.S., landed in the fountain.
“We are happy to welcome the unique guest,” wrote the hotel team on Twitter. They then announced that the fountains had been stopped and that they were working with state wildlife officials to rescue the bird, which had “found comfort in our little lake.”
It is extremely rare (罕见的) to see a yellow-billed loon in the Las Vegas area, as it usually makes its home in the Arctic and along the Pacific mainland. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed it as “vulnerable” meaning it could be at risk of endangerment (受到危害) in the future, while the National Park Service (NPS) considers it to be one of the ten rarest birds that breed (繁殖) on the mainland of the United States, adding that about 20%-25% of the global population visits Alaska seasonally.
“It’s an odd thing that it would come to the hotel’s fountains, where there are so many people,” said Kurt Buzard of the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve. According to him, the yellow-billed loon is a younger bird that might have gotten lost while trying to travel north along the coast, where most yellow-billed loons travel. “It’s really off-course here. Very unusual to see a bird like that here.”
At first, officials from the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) decided it was best not to trouble the bird, giving it a day to work it out on its own. But when Wednesday came, they were worried about the absence of food the loon may face if it stayed there, so they caught the bird. Once they made sure it was unharmed and in good health, it was transported to the Wetlands, an area about 5 miles from the Strip, where it had plenty of food and water.
28.What happened to the fountain show on Tuesday?
A.It was turned off because of an emergency. B.It had a special mix of music and lights.
C.It drew a large number of visitors. D.It was canceled for repair work.
29.Why does the author mention IUCN and NPS in paragraph 3?
A.To stress the yellow-billed loon’s rareness and survival situation.
B.To discuss the yellow-billed loon’s living place preferences.
C.To explain the yellow-billed loon’s seasonal visits to Alaska.
D.To introduce the yellow-billed loon’s breeding models.
30.What does the underlined word “odd” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Interesting. B.Surprising. C.Difficult. D.Natural.
31.What was the NDOW officials’ first reaction to the bird?
A.To leave it alone. B.To inform its owner.
C.To check its condition. D.To move it somewhere else.

Some of the world’s most important scientists think the idea of people living on Mars will come true one day. Stephen Hawking believed humans must move into space to survive. “Once we spread out into space and establish independent colonies, our future should be safe.” he said. Robert Zubrin, a rocket scientist, agrees and thinks starting with Mars makes the most sense. He thinks sending people to Mars will allow us to learn a lot—for example, about the ability of humans to live in a very different environment.
However, scientists will need to terraform Mars for people to be able to live. Terraforming means changing the environment on a planet so that it is similar to Earth’s. One of the main goals of terraforming Mars is to warm it up because the average temperature there is about -60℃. One idea for warming Mars is to build factories there that produce greenhouse gases. This could take many centuries. However, it should lead to rainfall and the growth of plants, resulting in more air that people can breathe.
Another big concern for scientists is whether humans can move to Mars and still stay healthy in mind and body. As a test, six people lived in a Mars-like environment in Hawaii for a year before “returning to Earth” recently. It was a 1,200-square-foot room that was on the side of a volcano and used the sun for energy. Christiane Heinicke, one of the people who lived there, said that one of the biggest issues was feeling bored. So humans on Mars would always need to keep themselves busy with various activities. Another important finding was that the people living together should all be able to get along and work together.
One particular organization based in Europe is planning to send the first humans to Mars before 2030.The organization believes that its project is giving people worldwide the chance to be part of the first human crew ever to live on Mars for good. However, many experts think the project’s cost of US $6 billion is too low for it to be successful. The American space agency NASA believes that sending people to Mars would cost about US $100 billion, although this estimate is based on bringing them back to Earth, too. Regardless, it seems that humans living on Mars may well happen a lot sooner than most people believe.
32.Why choose Mars first?
A.It has no extreme cold. B.It’s fit for quick terraforming.
C.It helps study human adaptability. D.It’s closer than other planets.
33.What worries scientists most?
A.Greenhouse gas shortage B.Human physical/mental health
C.Lack of funding for factories D.Volcanoes on Mars’ surface
34.What is the connection between Hawaii test and Mars life?
A.Both need sun energy use B.Both require team cooperation
C.Both have 1,200-square-foot space D.Both last exactly one year
35.How is the 2030 Mars plan viewed?
A.Cost estimate is too low. B.It can finish terraforming first.
C.NASA will fund it fully. D.It ignores health risks.

How to Get Better at Doing Things Alone
In a time of loneliness, it may seem strange to spare alone time. But as long as you also have a strong social network, research suggests that quality solo time increases happiness, reduces stress, and improves life satisfaction. 36 . This is because when you’re alone, you’re able to get in touch with yourself in a way you can’t when surrounded by other opinions and ideas. With that in mind, we asked experts how to master the art of spending time alone.
Start with a low-risk outing
Write down what you’d like to do by yourself, ranked from the most difficult activity to the least. Traveling internationally or attending a concert might be a 10, for example, while going to the park may be a 3. 37 .
38
Once you’ve decided to head out on your own, search online to figure out exactly where to go. Look up places nearby in advance that are, for example, great for dining alone. The more excited you are about what waits for you, the more likely you are to have a great time.
Bring along a distraction
When you start going places alone, it can be helpful to have something to focus on, like a book or a journal. Keeping your headphones on and listening to a favorite podcast or an audiobook can serve the same purpose. 39 .
Celebrate your achievements
The next time you go out alone, think of it as taking yourself on a date. When you get home, spend a few minutes celebrating the experience. 40 . Give yourself praises for stepping outside of your comfort zone, which will inspire you to go forward.
A.Do your homework beforehand
B.Lean into moments of connection
C.It can even make you more productive and creative
D.It becomes less of being alone and more just being present
E.You can brainstorm ways to make the easiest one less difficult
F.In the early days, these provide a welcome sense of comfort
G.Maybe that means journaling or posting a photo on social media

The summer sun streamed through the window as Lin Yue stared at her laptop screen. Only two days remained before the “A Bite of Two Cultures” presentation at the International Youth Summer Camp, yet her group’s PowerPoint was half blank.
Two weeks ago, Lin Yue and Ruby first met at the camp and instantly became friends. They were together all the time—hanging around, sharing snacks, and teaching each other silly words in their own languages. When the final project was announced, they naturally became partners, determined to win the Outstanding Camper Award.
Things fell apart during the preparation. They decided to focus on a comparison between Chinese and American food traditions. Lin Yue stayed up late creating a detailed schedule. “You research American food. I’ll handle the Chinese part. Then we combine.” Lin Yue suggested. Ruby shook her head. “Too boring. Let’s design some games, get creative.” Lin Yue sighed but said nothing. That night, she worked on her research until midnight. Passing Ruby’s room, she saw her watching a movie.
Two days later, Lin Yue shared her part of the research. Ruby’s contribution arrived later—a few lines and some downloaded photos. “This is it?” Lin Yue’s voice rose. “What’s wrong?” Ruby shrugged. “American food is simple. And I have great game ideas.” “Your way leads nowhere!” Lin Yue lost her patience. Ruby stood up, shooting back. “Your way leaves no room to breathe!” The words hung in the air like a slap. Neither spoke for a long moment. Then Ruby grabbed her laptop and walked out, the door clicking shut behind her.
For two days, silence. They sat apart, worked apart. The presentation remained untouched.
Then their instructor, Ms. Chen called them in. “You’re both excellent students,” she said. “But now, you’re the only team facing elimination (淘汰). No proper presentation means you’re out. It’s up to you.”
In the hallway, Lin Yue stood alone, her mind drifting back to the laughter they had shared. How had everything gone so wrong? She glanced toward Ruby, who sat on a bench across the hall, her eyes fixed on the floor.
