You’ve Got to LaughRecently, in Cambridgeshire, a British man named James Coxall played a joke on a huge hole on a busy road. With the help of his family, he built a pair of wooden legs and put them in the middle of the rain-filled hole, just like someone falling in with his head first. Coxall said that the joke was mostly for fun, but he also meant to let others know the terrible road condition in his village. Four days later, the government filled in the hole.
________Liu Jiakun has received the 2025 Pritzker Architecture Prize1. Jiakun, a 68-year-old architect (建筑师), from Chengdu, designs (设计) spaces that bring people together and show cultural traditions, believing architecture can help build “a sense of shared community (社区),” he said. His works include the West Village courtyard in Chengdu, the Suzhou Museum of Imperial Kiln Brick2, and other rebuilding projects in China. Jiakun’s works celebrate the lives of common people.
Listening in the wildSeán Ronayne, a bird expert, is working to record every kind of bird in his home country of Ireland for a new documentary (纪录片), Birdsong. He has collected about 12,000 nature recordings, including nearly 200 Irish bird sounds. Ronayne, who began his project in 2018, told the BBC, “I enjoyed telling their stories.” He hopes to get people to know that Ireland’s wildlife is in danger.
