Long long ago, there was a piece of wood. It was not an expensive piece of wood, just a common block of firewood, one of those thick legs that were put on the fire to make cold rooms warm.
One fine day this piece of wood found itself in the shop of an old carpenter (木匠). Everyone called him Mastro Cherry, for the tip of his nose was so round and red that it looked like a ripe cherry.
As soon as he saw that piece of wood, Mastro Cherry was filled with joy. Rubbing his hands together happily, he said to himself, “This has come in time. I’m in need of a leg of the table” But as he was about to give it the first blow, he stood still with the arm uplifted, for he had heard a little voice say, “Please be careful! Do not hit me so hard!” Surprising, isn’t it?
He tried to find out where that voice had come from and he saw no one! He looked under the bench—no one! He searched the room—no one! He opened the door to look around the street—and still no one!
“Oh, I see!” he then said, laughing and shaking his head. “There may be something wrong with my ears.”
“Well, well—to work once more.” He struck another blow hard on the piece of wood.
“Oh, oh! You hurt me!” cried the same far-away little voice.
Mastro Cherry’s mouth opened wide, eyes turned afraid and his tongue hung down on his chin (下巴). “Where did that voice come from? This piece of wood has learned to cry like a child? Here it is—a piece of common firewood, the same as any other. Yet—might someone be hidden (藏) in it? If so, the worst for him. I’ll fix him!” With these words, he started to knock it. He threw it to the floor, against the walls, and even up to the ceiling.
He listened for the tiny voice to cry. He waited two minutes—nothing; five minutes—nothing; ten minutes—nothing. “Oh, I see,” he said, trying bravely to laugh and touching his hair. “Well, well—to work once more!” So he tried to sing a merry song to get power, and worked on.

They have beautiful, colorful wings, and strong, fantastic flying skills. On summer days, you always see them flying freely over flower gardens and wild fields.
But, did you know how butterflies become the flying insects? It’s one of the amazing wonders of nature. In the beginning, female butterflies lay a small and colorful egg on a leaf or stem (茎) of a plant.
It’s hard to believe that the egg will become something completely different in a few days. It becomes a walking insect. This insect is called the caterpillar. It now has legs, eyes and a large body. A new life has begun. The caterpillar can eat, walk and see. But it is still not a butterfly.
Soon, after growing big, the caterpillar makes a cover for itself. It covers itself in the nice protective blanket (保护层) and goes to sleep. This stage is known as the “pupa (蛹)” stage.
After a period of time, the blanket breaks and a wet, weak butterfly appears. It now has six legs, a mouth, eyes and wings. Shortly, the wings fill with blood, and the beautiful, colorful butterfly spreads its wings and flies away.

“All grown-ups were once children but only few of them remember it.” It’s from a famous book The Little Prince. It was written by Antoine de Saint-Exupery and came out in 1943.
Antoine de Saint-Exupery was born in 1900 in France. He showed an interest in flying when he took his flight in 1912. Then he made a decision to be a pilot one day. Finally, he realized his dream. However, in 1935, his plane crashed (坠落) in the Sahara Desert. After four days, he was saved. Later, he began to write this story out of his experiences.
Both adults and children love this classic book The Little Prince. It is about the adventure of a young prince. He lives on the planet B612 with a rose. But he soon feels tired and leaves his planet to travel. He meets different kinds of people from other planets. During the travel, the young prince discovers that people are all looking for happiness but they are seldom able to get it because of their “business”. On Earth, he finds interesting things such as a snake, other roses and a fox. The fox tells him a secret: Only the heart can find the most important things. This helps the prince realize his love for the rose and he goes back to his planet.
People can read this book and have their own understanding of it. The story’s true meaning is between the lines said by the fox “You become responsible forever for what you have tamed (驯服).” The fox’s messages are unquestionably the book’s most famous ideas because they can tell how to get along with others.
The book has been translated into over 160 languages and has been sold over 50 million copies worldwide. It has been over 80 years since Saint-Exupery introduced his prince to readers, but the magic of The Little Prince lives on.

A special outdoor activity
Time flies. In the past year, I joined many outdoor events, but one of them was truly unforgettable.
Last autumn, my classmates and I went hiking in a nearby mountain forest. We started early in the morning, carrying backpacks with snacks and water. Along the way, we admired colorful leaves, listened to birds singing, and even spotted a squirrel! At noon, we picnicked under a giant tree, sharing sandwiches and laughter.
What made this trip special was the sense of teamwork. When some struggled on steep paths, others offered help. Laughter echoed through the woods as we played games. By the end, I felt both exhausted and joyful. Nature taught me the beauty of cooperation and simple pleasures.
This experience reminded me that outdoor activities are not just about exercise—they create lasting memories and strengthen bonds.
