Do you know that China is a very special and wonderful country? It is famous for its long history, rich culture and beautiful scenery. But today,I want to tell you about another great thing about China.
China is a nation of etiquette(礼仪). Chinese people are among the most hospitable people in the world. If foreigners visit a Chinese family, they would be surprised at the warmth that they would receive as guests. Let me tell you more about what it's like to be a guest in a Chinese family.
When you visit a Chinese family, the host usually makes tea for you. Then he will serve you snacks like biscuits or candies. Also, someone in the family will chat with you, never letting you feel lonely.
At the same time, other family members will prepare a meal for you. Chinese people treat their guests to a big meal. They always present enough food. And the guests must be the first to eat. Perhaps one of the things that surprise Western guests most is that the Chinese host likes to put food in visitors’ bowls, which won't happen in Western countries. The Chinese family go out of their way to make you feel at home. As you finish eating, the host usually says,“It seems that you didn't eat much. Please have more.”
Being warm and hospitable has long been an important part of Chinese culture and tradition. As Confucius(孔子) said thousands of years ago:

(2024·烟台) Around the 15th United Nations Chinese Language Day, which fell on 20 April, some
foreign students of Xi' an International Studies University practised and enjoyed Chinese characters(汉字)together with some Chinese experts and teachers. It's a tradition for some foreign Chinese speakers and Chinese teachers to get together to mark the special day. 59
Chinese famous writer Lu Xun once said that the beauty of Chinese characters lies in three ways: their meanings educate the mind, their sounds please the ear, and their appearances please the eye. 60
The history of Chinese characters can date back over 3,000 years. To improve beauty and writing efficiency(效率), different kinds of characters were developed, such as zhuanshu, lishu, caoshu, and kaishu. 61
Many Chinese characters pass down meanings through history. 62 Through them, we can closely connect the past, present, and future of our country.
According to a recent survey, more than 30 million people worldwide are learning Chinese. 63 As more people can speak their mother languages and Chinese, the culture of Chinese characters is likely to be better understood and enjoyed worldwide.

传统文化(2024—2025·长顺县期中) There were several kinds of greetings in ancient China. Among them, the fist-and-palm salute(拱手礼) was quite common. Today, though Chinese would usually shake hands when meeting friends, people would still make fist-and-palm salutes when they are paying a visit to someone during the traditional Chinese New Year or attending someone's birthday party.
The fist-and-palm salute is typical Chinese etiquette(礼节) with a history of more than 3,000 years. In ancient times, if people met a stranger, their hands were always ready to hold together.
Holding hands together showed that people could feel relaxed. Later it became the etiquette when meeting each other and showing thanks. In modern China, the fist-and-palm salute has been used a lot on traditional occasions.
The gesture(姿势) of the fist-and-palm salute: Firstly, stand straight. If you are a man, let your right hand be a half fist, and then your left hand hold your right hand in front of your chest. Watch each other in the eyes, raise both of your hands to your brow, bent down and shake your hands towards each other gently for three times. Meanwhile, you could say some lucky greeting words such as“gong xi fa cai(Wish you much money)”,“ni hao(Hello)”,“xing hui(Nice to meet you)”,“xin nian kuai le(Happy New Year)” according to different occasions. It's believed that people considered the left as the important side for men in Chinese history, while for women, the important side is the right. So, if you are a woman, you should make the fist-and-palm salute in the other way—— put your right hand on your left hand. At last, please remember when someone makes the fist-and-palm salute to you, you need to do it back as well.

One possible version:
Dear David,
Glad to hear that you plan to visit Guizhou. And I'm willing to tell you some customs in China.
In China, people usually shake hands when they meet for the first time. And when you visit a friend, it's polite to arrive on time or a few minutes early.
Speaking of table manners, you should sit up straight and keep your elbows off the table. We usually use chopsticks to eat instead of knives or forks. However, it's impolite to point at anyone with chopsticks and we can't stick them into the food, either. What's more, we should never waste food. Try to finish all the food on your plate.
I hope everything will be fine and I'm sure you will have a great time in China.
Yours,
Li Hua
