①Have you ever thought about traveling to the U. K. or maybe studying there? If your answer is yes, then you should learn a thing or two about British etiquette (礼仪). It will help to make sure that your behavior is always right during your stay in Britain.
②To begin with, people in the U. K. tend to over-apologize (过度道歉). For example, someone who has booked a seat on a train may find another person sitting in it. Who do you think will say sorry first? Well, you are highly likely to hear the first person say, “I’m so sorry, but you appear to be sitting in my seat.”
③Britons like receiving heartfelt apologies as well as giving them. If you have troubled someone, it is important to offer him or her a sincere (真诚的) apology. A half-hearted apology will not go down well. If someone has offered you an apology, then you should accept it. You can do this by saying “It’s okay” or “Don’t worry about it.” In some cases, you may still be left feeling angry. But if you don’t accept the apology, the situation will become worse.
④In addition to “sorry”, “please” and “thank you” are also quite common in British speech. When you are given the change in a store, for example, you should thank the store worker. If you are not saying “please” and “thank you” when you should, you may be told to “mind your p’s and q’s.”
⑤British people often find it embarrassing to discuss money. Sometimes, talking about how much something costs is considered rude. If you are chatting with a Briton, it’s better to avoid having discussions about money.
⑥When you are having a conversation with a Briton, also remember to put down your smartphone. It is especially rude if you use your phone when eating at the dinner table. In the U. K., dinner time is a time for talking with one’s family or friends.
3. According to the passage, you should say “Don’t worry about it” when ________.
A. you are feeling very angry
B. someone has said sorry to you
C. you have done something wrong
4. According to the passage, British people consider it rude to ________.
①talk while eating ②discuss the cost of something
③use a phone during dinner ④ask someone to leave their seat
A. ①② B. ③④ C. ②③
5. What is the structure of the article?
A. ①/②③④⑤⑥ B. ①/②③④⑤/⑥ C. ①②/③/④⑤/⑥
6. Which of the following is the best title of the article?
A. Troubling Others is Rude.
B. Accept Apologies Happily.
C. When in Britain, do as the Britons Do.
【答案】3. B 4. C 5. A 6. C
【解析】

【3题详解】

【4题详解】
根据第五段“talking about how much something costs is considered rude.”可知讨论商品价格是粗鲁的(②);根据第六段“It is especially rude if you use your phone when eating at the dinner table.”

C
People are talking a lot about artificial intelligence (AI), viewing it as a force that could reshape how society works. But there is something important missing from this discussion. It isn’t enough to ask how it will change us. We also need to understand how we shape Al and what it can tell us about ourselves.
Every AI model we develop reflects our rules and expresses our beliefs. A few years ago, while looking for new workers, a famous company gave up an AI-powered tool after finding it not beneficial to women. The AI was not designed to behave this way; instead, it was influenced by the historical data (数据). Similarly, a recent study found that lending algorithms (算法) often offer less beneficial agreements to colored people, worsening long-standing unfairness in money-lending business. In both cases, AI isn’t creating new biases (偏见); it is reflecting the ones that are already present.
These reflections (反映) give us an important chance to take a close look at ourselves. By making these problems seen and more pressing, AI challenges us to find what leads to algorithmic bias. As AI continues to develop, we must ask ourselves how we as average people want to shape its role in society. We should not only improve Al models, but also make sure that AI is developed and used responsibly.
A number of companies are already taking actions. They are judging the data, rules, and beliefs that shape the behavior of AI models. Still, we cannot expect the companies to do all the work. As long as AI is trained on human data, it will reflect human behavior. That means we have to think carefully about the footprints of ourselves we leave in the world. I may value privacy, but if I give it up in a heartbeat to visit a website, the algorithms may make a very different judgment of what I really want and what is good for me. If I want meaningful human connections yet spend more time on social media and less time in the company of my friends, I am indirectly training AI models about the true nature of humanity.
As AI becomes more powerful, we need to take increasing care to read our principles (原则) into the record of our actions rather than allowing the two to diverge. Finding this allows us to make better decisions, but only when we are prepared to look closely and take responsibility for what we see.
7. Why does the writer introduce the two examples in Paragraph 2?
A. To suggest a solution. B. To stress a difference. C. To support a viewpoint.
8. What does the word “diverge” in the last paragraph most probably mean?
A. improve. B. appear. C. separate.
9. According to the passage, what is a good example of shaping AI responsibly?
A. Protecting one’s privacy against AI.
B. Thinking about what we put into AI.
C. Combining AI with the latest data.
10. Which of the following is the best title for this passage?
A. AI Isn’t the Problem; We Are
B. AI: A Tool to Reshape Our Society
C. Building Trust in Human-AI Relationships
【答案】7. C 8. C 9. B 10. A
文中第二段先提出观点“Every AI model we develop reflects our rules and expresses our beliefs.”,随后列举了招聘AI对女性不利、贷款算法对有色人种不公平两个例子,目的是支撑这一观点,说明AI并非产生新偏见,而是反映人类已有的偏见。因此作者引入这两个例子是为了支持一个观点,对应选项C。
【8题详解】
文中最后一段提到“we need to take increasing care to read our principles into the record of our actions rather than allowing the two to diverge.”,句中“the two” 指代前文的“principles(原则)” 与“the record of our actions(行为记录)”,结合“rather than(而不是)”的转折逻辑,可知此处表达“要让原则与行为一致,而非让二者偏离/分离”,因此“diverge” 的含义与“separate(分离)” 最为匹配,对应选项C。
【9题详解】
文中第四段提到“As long as AI is trained on human data, it will reflect human behavior. That means we have to think carefully about the footprints of ourselves we leave in the world.”,说明AI会反映训练它的人类数据,因此负责任地塑造AI需要我们思考自己输入到AI中的内容(即我们留下的行为痕迹),对应选项B。
【10题详解】
全文围绕“AI反映人类的偏见与行为,问题根源在于人类自身,而非AI本身” 展开论述,强调人类需为塑造AI承担责任。选项 A“AI Isn’t the Problem; We Are(AI不是问题,我们才是)” 精准概括了文章核心主旨。

In a large orchard (果园), there was a young apple tree. It admired the other trees greatly. The pear tree was covered in sweet-smelling white flowers. The walnut (核桃树) tree grew hard, valuable nuts. The old oak (橡树) was strong and provided shade for animals. The apple tree felt ordinary. It really wanted to be special and needed.
So, it tried to be like others. It worked hard to produce a few pears, but they were sour. It tried to make its wood as strong as the oak’s, but this only tired it. It even tried to grow nuts, but failed completely. The other trees began to laugh at it. “Just be an apple tree,” they said. But the apple tree didn’t listen, lost and unhappy.
One autumn, a wise gardener visited. He saw the sad, unhealthy tree. “Little tree,” he said gently, “why are you so thin? You are an apple tree. Your purpose is not to be a pear tree or an oak.” He cared for it, watering it and giving it the right food.
The next spring, the tree forgot its imitation (模仿) and simply grew. It blossomed with pink-white flowers. By autumn, it was heavy with shiny red apples. Children laughed as they picked them. The farmer sold the apples at market. The tree finally felt deeply joyful.
It realized its value came not from being like others, but from being itself fully. Its true gift was its own sweet fruit. In trying to be everything, it had been nothing. In being itself, it found its unique place.
