Jerry is a world-famous mountain climber. He has climbed many high mountains in the world. Starting in 2015, he and his friends spent two years on an adventure(探险)in South America, covering 7,800 miles. He was even named Adventure of the Year by a famous geography magazine in 2018.
Although Jerry had achieved great success, he didn’t feel fulfilled. He asked himself, “Is it enough to climb the highest mountains? Am I doing something helpful? How can I turn my adventures into something that can help the world?”
Jerry learned that scientists need plants, rocks and water samples(样本)from the places far away to do research. But scientists can’t get there themselves as such places are hard to reach——only the bravest adventurers can make it. Jerry thought himself could do something to help. He then came up with an idea. He set up a team of top adventures to collect samples for scientists. By studying the samples, scientists could know more about the earth and find ways to protect it.
Recently Jerry and his adventurer friends have discovered a special plant life of Mountain Qomolangma. The samples they brought back have helped scientists how plants live in extreme(极端的)conditions.
For Jerry, this kind of adventure is most satisfying. “Such adventures had made us see life in a different way. Now, being the best climber isn’t important for me, what matters is doing something helpful while climbing the mountains. There is still much more we can do.” Jerry said to a newspaper.

①Chinese tea culture has a long and wonderful history that has been passed down for thousands of years. It grew quickly during the Tang Dynasty and reached its golden age in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). In those days, people did not drink tea the same way we do today. They did not just put tea leaves into hot water and wait. Their favorite way to enjoy tea was Diancha—a special and beautiful tea art.
②Making diancha has several steps. First, people warmed the tea bowl with hot water to make it ready for the tea; this step was important to keep the tea’s taste. Next, they put fine tea powder into the bowl and added a small amount of hot water. They mixed them gently together to make a thick paste (茶膏) that looked smooth.
③The most important part was whisking (拂) the tea. They slowly poured more hot water into the bowl, little by little, and stirred the tea again and again with a bamboo whisk. This process needed patience and skill. After careful and patient stirring, thick and white foam (泡沫) appeared on the top of the tea. People believed good diancha should have clean white foam that could stay for a long time without disappearing.
④People in the Song Dynasty loved holding tea competitions called Doucha. They gathered together to compare the colour of the foam and how long it could last (持续). If the foam stuck well to the bowl and did not leave water marks, it was considered the best diancha. Emperor Huizong enjoyed diancha so much that he wrote a book to teach others about this wonderful art and share his love for it.

Big data is many sets of information that are put together to be used by a computer program. The program looks for different kinds of answers in the data. We can get information from many sources, such as the Internet, schools, companies, and governments. One set of data can have people’s names and addresses. Another set can have what they like, where they go to school, and how much time they spend on the computer.
Big data can be helpful in many ways. The government uses it to understand how many people travel on buses or trains. The information is then used to improve public transport services. Some schools use big data to find which students may need extra help in class. The teachers can then give these students more support so they can achieve success in school. Companies use big data, too. It helps them understand their buyers better. For example, a company uses weather data to study when people eat the most ice cream. Hospitals use big data to predict if a baby will get sick when he or she is born too early. Then they can take extra steps to protect that baby from illness.
However, big data can also cause problems. It may be used to predict which kinds of people may break the law, even though they have done nothing wrong.
Why can big data be used for both good and bad? It is because people write computer programs to understand it. People build different analytical models to look at the data. Sometimes the model brings great help, but other times it can bring trouble to some groups of people.

⑤In 2019, Chinese Diancha was listed as an intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产). Today, this wonderful tea art still helps people around the world understand the rich culture of ancient China.
