In my childhood, whenever I was being unreasonable,or questioning whatever direction
my mother was giving, she would say "I'm the momma and you're the baby."End of
discussion.Until one day she asked me to do something for her and I said,"No.You're the
momma;I'm the baby."It gave her a good laugh.

But,at 31,I'm realizing the dynamic might be shifting. She's the momma;I'm the baby.
But I'm also something else now.More will be asked of me to take care of her.My mother is
getting older.
The realization hit me during a recent visit home.In my memory, our house wasn't spotless,
but I'd call it tidy.Weekends were for cleaning.Yet during this visit I was taken aback by piles
upon piles of mail and papers and junk.A fridge full of spoiled food.A mountain of clothes
begging to be located. Was it always this way? When did she become a hoarder(囤积者)?A
symptom of aging?
But my mother would like you to know something:She is not a hoarder. She spoke frankly
with more self-awareness than I expected about life and time and happiness."The time that I
have to go through those things would be my weekends.Do I want to spend my Saturday
afternoon going through all the junk?Or do I want to go hang out with my friends?I think the
latter.I don't want to spend one minute of my free time doing anything that doesn't bring me
joy,"she says. It's not that my mother has no worries about aging, but she came to terms with it
long before."Trey, you could spend so much time worrying about things that aren't perfect.
Then time slips by,and they're never going to be,"she continues."I think happiness is a
moment-to-moment,day-to-day kind of thing. It's not something you sustain.I still think I'm
hot-that might be in my head, but so what."
24.What was the author's tone in his response to Mom in paragraph 1?
A.Unwilling
B.Contented.
C.Serious.
D.Sympathetic.
25.What made the author label Mom as a hoarder at first?
A.Her refusal to donate old stuff.
B.The mess in Mom's house.
C.Her preference for an economical life.D.The decline of Mom's health.
26.Why didn't Mom tidy the house on weekends?
A.She had plans with her friends.
B.She was too old to do it on her own.
C.She had trouble sorting out the junk
D.She desired a pleasant time for herself.
27.Which of the following may best describe Mom's philosophy of life
A.An idle youth,a needy age.
B.Haste makes waste.
C.No thorn,no throne.
D.Living in the present.

Human-driven climate change poses one of the most urgent challenges of our time, while
individuals'decisions(e.g.how often people fly, what type of car they drive)play a substantial
role in achieving net zero emissions. However, people hold widespread misperceptions
regarding the effectiveness of their behaviors, affecting their commitment.Recently,a study
was conducted to assess if climate action literacy (interventions could influence their
perceptions and willingness to act.
The study was based on 4,000 people recruited to take an online survey.A pre-test was
conducted to rate their willingness to engage in the 21 carbon emission-reducing individual
behaviors. Then they were randomly divided into two groups receiving climate literacy
intervention.Participants in the first group were first asked to rank the effectiveness of the 21
individual behaviors, before being shown the true effectiveness ranking. The second group of
participants received information about the carbon reduction potential of the same behaviors

without the prediction step.During the post-test,participants in both groups, again, rated thei.
willingness to adopt these individual behaviors.Besides, participants rated each behaviour or
how easy or difficult it would be for them to engage in each item.
After the intervention, clear positive outcomes emerged for both groups:they expressed
significantly greater willingness to adopt climate-friendly lifestyles. However, compared with
passive exposure to information, active processing of new information contributes more to
updating people's beliefs.
The study also highlighted what really motivated people to act in their personal lives.
People will engage in lifestyle changes especially because they think it's easy to do,no matter
how effective they are.
"The study is part of a broader research program investigating how scalable,low-cost
interventions can affect behavior."Vlasceanu,a professor of environmental social sciences,
said.Climate change can be solved through choices and changes involving large numbers of
people.Future experiments may compare literacy-based strategies with emotional appeals or
personal storytelling to determine which approaches most effectively enhance individual
engagement..”
28.What does the study focus on?
A.How climate change threatens our daily life.
B.Whether individual decisions affect carbon emissions.
C.How misunderstandings of environment get corrected.
D.Whether guidance affects people's environmental decisions
29.What's the process of the experiment according to paragraph 2?
A.Pre-test→Group Division--→Literacy Intervention-→Post-test
B.Pre-test→First Assessment-→Methods Instruction-→Post-test
C.Pre-test→Group Division-→Instant Practice-→Group Comparison
D.Pre-test-First Assessment-Instant Practice-Group Comparison
30.What can be inferred from the findings?
A.People prefer effective actions to easy ones.
B.Tough actions are less effective in cutting carbon.
C.Active engagement leads to greater belief change.
D.Behavior effectiveness is key to action willingness.
31.What is the future research mainly about according to Vlasceanu?
A.Adoption of novel research approaches.
B.Potential benefits of greater engagement.
C.Identification of top action-driving methods.
D.Practical needs of involving more participants.

The singularly most important question we will ever ask is,"Who am I?"Generally
speaking,we are not taught how to answer that question. We don't even ask it.Most commonly,
we define ourselves by the mirrors we see from the external world.
We are being looked at.And we are looking at other people's observations and perceptions
as if they are a mirror image of who we are.But you know how mirrors are.We only get a
reversed (image. We have internalized other people's ideas and we believe that they
define us.

Even in the case, used here only as an example,of the child who internalizes a rebel
identity. We say he's "out of control."He's just trying to embarrass his parents. He's just a
difficult child."If none of that is true, then who is he really?
From the transpersonal therapy perspective, little Johnny has become what his parents
needed him to be.What?Nobody in their right mind would want to raise a rebel.Right?
Perhaps Johnny's parents have lived an unconsciously restrained life, strictly following the
socially acceptable codes of the day.Yet,internally, they are itching (to be different. They
just can't because this role as the "good guy"has captured them. However, all the itching
internal stuff has to go somewhere. The simplest answer is that it is projected onto little Johnny.
Then the parent can deal with it externally;they may typically react by trying to get Johnny to
take on the identity of another good guy.
That is how it is for most of us.We introject an idea of who we are, which we have
received by looking into the eyes of parents and family members, and we live it out as if it is
truly who we are.Often,it is reinforced many times over many years,in this case,by trying to
get Johnny to live in the parents'cage, which only means Johnny will have to rebel yet again.
Under all that identification,we ask,who are we really? The way to find it is to stop
looking into other people's eyes and start looking within.
Once that decision is made,it might be a good time to seek a therapist who will help us do
that in a safe environment.Within that safe environment, you might also start journaling.
Journaling is a dialogue with yourselfa dialogue between identity and self,or someone with
whom you have unresolved issues.
The real joumey, the one that will need to be made in a safe space,is made of
determination.Determination to go deeper and deeper. This is the true hero's journey in which
you finally meet and retrieve your own self.
32.What are the first two paragraphs mainly about?
A.The misconstruction of self-perception.
B.The internalized reflection of self-identity.
C.People's confusion about their internal world
D.People's observation of a reversed mirror image.
33.Why does the author mention the example of a"rebel"child?
A.To criticize a practice.
B.To challenge an argument.
C.To illustrate an idea.
D.To raise an assumption.
34.What does the underlined word "introject"in Paragraph 6 probably mean?
A.Absorb.
B.Introduce.
C.Value.
D.Generate.
35.It is implied in the passage that we should
A.address unresolved issues with parents
B.balance given identity and genuine self
C.reclaim the authority to define who we are
D.reshape our identity in a safe environment

When you spend time with close friends, how do you feel? You may feel like you belong.
According to the Oxford dictionary, belonging is defined as a "deep sense of acceptance,
inclusion,and identification within a group,place,or context."36
Since the beginning of human evolution, people have connected with others in order to
survive. This desire to form and grow relationships is rooted in the human brain.37 In
1943,Abraham Maslow was the first psychologist to write about belonging as a human need.
His theory, the Hierarchy()of Needs, states that humans must acquire their basic needs,
such as physiological((生理上的)needs and needs related to safety,,before they can begin
fulfilling other higher, more complex needs, like belonging or developing self-esteem.
Another groundbreaking research about belonging emerged in 1995.Mark Leary and Roy
Baumeister found that humans have a universal drive to belong, which motivates their thoughts
and actions. In fact, this drive is so important that they argued it was a fundamental human
need-not a secondary need in a hierarchy.Their later research explored the connection
between self-esteem and belonging.According to their research,self-esteem is not just about
how people feel about themselves internally.38
Although feeling connected to people is important in many settings,it becomes especially
critical in schools.A 2020 research analysis found that students who do not feel a sense of
belonging at school are often searching for threats in their environment that signal whether they
are welcome or not.39 This,in turn, can cause poorer academic performance. It can
also discourage students from forming deeper relationships. So,a student's feeling of belonging
is vital for their learning.
40 Researchers will continue to analyze how personality, culture, and even social
media shape how connected we feel to others. With this knowledge, people can create schools
and communities where more people feel included. That way,we can develop a society that is
overall healthier,happier,and more connected.
A.They may do things to increase their self-esteem.
B.This stress can use up cognitive resources needed for learning.
C.Belonging is a complex thing because it is influenced by many factors.
D.Over the years, researchers have been exploring this subjective feeling
E.Feeling like you belong can actually improve many aspects of your life.
F.It actually serves as a warning signal that measures how much people feel accepted.
G.When you see yourself well suited to a specific environment, you feel valued and respected.

Adam loved football. He loved the smell of the grass as he slid across it.And he loved the
excitement when he shot the ball into the net. There was nothing in this world that could weigh
the same as football in his heart. He dreamed of growing up to be a professional footballer.
Every day Adam would go to the field and practise with his friends. He still remembered
when he asked to join the older boys, they teased (him,"You're too small.Football is for
big, tough players, not for someone your size."Then when they saw he could run, kick, and
shoot as well as they could, the teasing stopped.Adam played hard and really had a gift.He
even became the only one in the group who could do the bicycle kick(倒挂金钩)H
One day after school,Adam went to the playground to practise as usual. The boys were
talking quietly, casting excited glances at a man who was watching the field. As Adam joined
the group,Captain Harold told him the man, called Mr.Smith, was looking for players for his
football camp and there would be a tryout match the next day.Adam could hardly contain his
excitement. The camp meant there would be professional coaches to train him!He would do
anything to join it.
After the practice,Mr.Smith approached and Adam crowded close so he could see him.
"Who wants to come to my football camp and really learn to play this game?"Mr.Smith asked.
Excited hands shot up.Mr.Smith shook them all and shook Adam's hand last.
"Little man,I saw you run fast,"he said."But you are far too thin and short for my camp
You'll get knocked down in a second."
Adam looked down so no one would see his disappointment."It's not fair!Adam's been
practising with us and he's the only one who ever did the bicycle kick!"Harold argued.

Protect Wild Animals
Currently, many wild animals are in danger.Their habitats are being destroyed, and illegal
hunting has pushed some species to the edge of extinction, breaking the ecological balance
To help, the goverment should make stricter laws and build more nature reserves. As
students,we can spread the message of protection and refuse to buy products made from
endangered animals.
Wild animals are our friends.Let's take action now.Only by protecting them can we build
a harmonious natural home together.

Mr.Smith hesitate slightly,Adam begged him sincerely for a chance.Finally,Mr.Smith nodded
and told him to come the next day.
The next day Adam came to the tryout. The players were divided into two groups and
Adam ran actively through the field, seeking a chance to goal.Soon,Harold passed him the ball!
Adam positioned himself, jumped as high as he could and kicked the ball with his head down.
The ball flew directly into the net!A perfect bicycle kick! When Mr.Smith announced the

promised to another museum starting next week.
W:Oh,will you put anything in its place?
M:No.We'll just remove it.
W:OK,I'll make that change to the audio-guide recording right away.

W:Welcome to Lakeview Hotel. How may I help you?
M:My name is Robert Stark, and I have a reservation for two nights,a single bed.
W:OK,Mr.Stark,please fill out this form.
M:Sure.Where is the main lecture hall?I don't want to be late for the writers'gathering
tomorrow. Many famous writers will be here.I'm very excited to attend their lectures.
W:The main lecture hall is on the second floor.Mr.Stark,I will put you in Room 403.
M:Thank you.And where can I buy a nice souvenir?
W:There is a large souvenir shop two blocks away, about ten minutes'walk from here. It's
across the street from a grocery store. Here is your room key.Enjoy your stay,Mr.Stark.
M:OK.Could you direct me to the lift?

W:Hello,Dr.Green,I'm here to talk to you about my work placement.
M:Oh,yes. So,which work placement have you chosen?
W:I decided to go for the Orion Stadium placement. The event I'll be managing is one where
I'm helping to set up a sports competition for primary school children.
M:Yup.That's always a popular placement, even though it can be tougher than you think,
working with children.
W:I know, but it's the fresh air that fascinates me.Organizing something indoors doesn't have
the same appeal, even though it might be fun.
M:OK.Just a heads-up-watch out for flying balls and equipment around the kids.
W:Yes,I'll ask whether they provide some protective wear. And I'll also need to make sure
none of the equipment's damaged.
M:Ah,well, you'll be working with schools,so the equipment will be their responsibility.
However, the grounds and what goes on there will be yours.
W:Oh,I see.

W:Good morning, everyone.Welcome to our special feature on a meaningful event hosted by
the charity organization Save Our Street Dogs,or SOSD.On March 2nd,SOSD will hold its
annual fundraising and adoption event in Urban Park. This combined event aims to raise
funds for a new care center while also helping more street dogs find loving homes.
The funds raised are crucial for the construction of the SOSD Care Center,a major step to
accommodate more dogs in need.At present,SOSD cares for 160 dogs at its shelters and also
feeds 70 homeless dogs wandering around on Jurong Island.
During the event, visitors can meet several dogs seeking forever homes. These include Odin,
recently rescued from an abandoned factory and now recovering from an eye injury;Caleb,a
loving dog who was left behind after his owner moved away;and Tami,a fun companion
rescued from a forest, who had surgery after suffering a severe leg injury. These three are
just a few of the furry friends waiting for adopters.
On-the-spot volunteer registration will also be available on March 2nd.This is a great
chance to support a worthy cause,so why not take part in the event on March 2nd and help a
dog find its forever home?
