Researchers from a charity say that using internet-connected devices in the evening can prevent children getting more rest. Moreover, they suggest that school children should invest in a real alarm clock to make sure that they get a good night's sleep and arrive at school on time. ____①____ The result is that 40% pupils in secondary schools can now hardly get on well without these devices. About two-thirds of pupils have a habit of taking mobile phones to bed at night. ____②____ The study also shows that girls are more likely to be attracted by mobile phones than boys, and often use the internet to talk to friends on social networking websites, such as Facebook and Twitter. B Red Nose Day is a well-known event in the UK. It has been part of British life for over 30 years. It raises money for people in need in Africa and the UK. Red Nose Day is organized by Comic Relief. This organization was set up by Richard Curtis and Lenny Henry in 1985. They wanted to use comedy and laughter to bring more attention to poverty in the UK and Africa, and make sure that everybody who didn't have money to see comedy shows could have fun at the same time. That's why Red Nose Day was born. The British celebrated the first Red Nose Day on 5 February 1988. One-third of the money raised goes to projects in the UK and two-thirds to projects in Africa. Red Nose Day 2023 was on 17 March. The money collected was used to help fund projects in the following areas: treating malaria, education, maternal health and mental health. The programme Red Nose Day telethon has raised over £1 billion! Money-raising events take place all over the country and many schools join in. People also donate money by post, in banks, by phone using a credit card and online. People call it Red Nose Day because on this day many people buy a plastic red nose to wear. Even if someone doesn't wear it, he or she will go and buy one. Some people put the red noses on the front of their cars to show their support.
