Biking in Yellowstone National Park
Biking is permitted on the road segment(部分、段) from North Entrance to Northeast Entrance all year round and always prohibited on all backcountry(偏远地区) trails, boardwalks, and oversnow routes. In the spring and fall, it’s permitted on roads closed to regular vehicles while weather conditions allow. Read the map, the regulations and safety information below before bicycling in the park.
Biking Regulations
· All bikes are subject to the same traffic rules as automobiles (such as speed limits).
· All cyclists must ride single file on the right shoulder.
· Riding is permitted during daylight hours only.

J. Craig Venter, who mapped the first draft of the human genome(基因组) and helped scientists understand how genes shape our lives, died Wednesday. He was 79. Venter’s death was announced by the J. Craig Venter Institute, a genomics research group with locations in La Jolla, California, and Rockville, Maryland. The institute said he died in San Diego after being hospitalized for side effects from a recent cancer treatment.
In the 1990s Venter bet that he could use a different sequencing technique to speed up the process of decoding the human genome and beat an enormous government effort called the Human Genome Project. And in 2000, Venter’s private company Celera Genomics announced, along with Human Genome Project leaders, that they had decoded the 3.1 billion sub-units of DNA, the chemical “letters″ that make up the recipe of human life. Three years later, in April 2003, the project declared the genome complete.
“Some have said to me that sequencing the human genome will diminish humanity by taking the mystery out of life,” Venter said at a White House event in 2000 about the breakthrough. “Nothing could be further from the truth.” And his work did reveal even greater mysteries — even as it helped scientists understand the genetic causes for rare diseases and more common conditions such as heart disease and cancer, as well as what mutations or shifts may put people at higher risk of disease.
Venter, who served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam, said the experience taught him how fragile life could be and made him curious about how the trillions of cells in the human body conspire to create and maintain life.

In the book Blueprints: How Mathematics Shapes Creativity, Marcus du Sautoy explores the mathematics underlying structures in music, art, literature, architecture, and etc. He calls these mathematical topics “blueprints”. Each chapter focuses on one such blueprint and begins with a story related to it. I found it especially enjoyable to guess at the connection to the blueprint and then read on to see how it unfolded.
du Sautoy’s writing conveys both his expertise and his enthusiasm. Sometimes the mathematics explains the art, and at other times the art illuminates the mathematics. Occasionally, connections between the art and the mathematics seem unrelated. On the other hand, some linkages are truly spot on.
Reading the book while following along with the art and music greatly enhanced my experience. I often listened to the musical pieces described in the text, and du Sautoy’s vivid descriptions allowed me to visualize the symmetry(几何学) found in Bach’s The Art of Fugue and imagine the rotation(旋转) of a shape in time with the composition. Doing so allowed me to appreciate the composition on a deeper level.
Much of the mathematics may be unfamiliar to people who aren't mathematicians. Nonetheless, the writing is accessible, and the explanations are clearly written for a general audience. Blueprints succeeds in challenging the stereotype that art and mathematics are worlds apart. By revealing how artists draw inspiration from mathematics and how mathematics can illuminate artistic works, du Sautoy underscores the profound connections between the two.

At the center of the Milky Way, telescopes have picked up an unusual glow of gamma rays, the most energetic form of light. One possible explanation is that dark matter particles are colliding and destroying each other, releasing bursts of energy in the process. Yet the same signal hasn’t appeared in other places where it should--dwarf galaxies(矮星系).
That mismatch has become one of the biggest sticking points in interpreting the signal. If dark matter is responsible, why doesn’t it show up everywhere?
Dwarf galaxies, which orbit the Milky Way, are packed with dark matter and have relatively little background radiation. That makes them ideal places to look for clean signals. If dark matter interactions are producing gamma rays in one galaxy, similar signals would be expected in these smaller systems as well. But those signals haven’t appeared.
That gap has pushed some researchers to look for alternative explanations for the Milky Way glow, such as large populations of faint pulsars(脉冲星) clustered near the galaxy’s center. Others see it as a sign that the simplest dark matter models may be incomplete.
A new model published in the Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics by Gordan Krnjaic offers a different way to think about that question. “What we’re trying to point out is that you could have a different kind of environmental dependence,” explained Gordan Krnjaic. Instead of assuming dark matter behaves the same across the universe, the model suggests its signals may depend on local conditions, appearing in some galaxies while remaining undetectable in others.
“Dark matter could straightforwardly be two different particles, and the two different particles need to find each other in order to annihilate(湮灭).” Dark matter may exist in two states, which can explain missing signals in dwarf galaxies.

The do’s and don’ts of using AI to plan your travel (原创)
The generative AI revolution is underway. One way you’ll sometimes see these AI chatbots used is as smart travel assistants, giving you recommendations on the locations to stay at, eat at, and tour around in just about any location you can name. There’s no doubt that AI can be helpful here, in a variety of different ways. ____16____.
Do use AI chatbots for complex questions
____17____, compared with a standard Internet engine search. Ask about trips in a town for kids and under a certain budget, and an AI-generated answer is going to be much more precise.
Don’t trust everything you read
The Large Language Models (LLMs) that generative AI chatbots are based on aren’t copying machines. They’re designed to create new text from the text they’ve been trained on. That means a lot of impressive creative output, ____18____.
It’s also clear that when LLMs don’t have any information to draw on, they’ll use generic language(通用套话) as filler. You’ll find an awful lot of hotels are “comfortable” and “cozy”, and an awful lot of pubs have a “traditional atmosphere”—even if they don’t. These errors don’t happen very often, but they do happen.
Don’t leave without making checks
____19____: Be sure to also visit listings on portals(门户网站) like Google Maps and TripAdvisor, as well as checking with venues directly, before you set off. Of course these resources aren’t always 100 percent accurate either, but they’re more likely to be up to date and feature first-hand knowledge.
In general, when looking for travel advice, ____20____, but it’s not something to rely on entirely.
A. but that also means inaccuracies
B. but that also means generic language
C. Only use AI chatbots as one of several tools for trip planning
D. Generative AI can be an impressively helpful tool
E. It’s also important to remember the limitations of the technology
F. The outstanding advantage of AI chatbots is in complicated inquiries
G. Generative AI can never be hesitated to use to solve your difficulties

Even if everything falls apart, you can carve a new way to dream forward.
结构分析:主从复合句,Even if引导让步状语从句,核心主句为you can carve a new way,to dream forward是不定式作后置定语,修饰a new way。

When Tunisian traveler Samar Kerkeni first arrived in Heze, a quiet city in East China's Shandong province, she expected to see peonies — the country's famed "king of flowers". _____36_____ she didn't expect was to find them everywhere: on her plate, across her hotel walls, and even woven into the carpet beneath her feet. "The real flowers are unlike anything I've seen — vast, colorful, so many shades _____37_____ (flow)together. It's unbelievably beautiful," she said.
In China, the peony is more than a flower — it's a timeless emblem(象征) of grace, _____38_____ (prosper) and national pride. Tang Dynasty (618-907) poets revered(崇敬) peonies more than 1,000 years ago. Xu Ning asked, "Who doesn't love the peony?" while Liu Yuxi once _____39_____ (declare), "Only the peony is the true beauty of the land."
But_____40_____ admiration still blooms today in Heze, officially crowned "Peony Capital of China", with its mild climate and deep-rooted tradition, where peonies _____41_____(cultivate) for more than 1,500 years. Today, the city boasts more than 1,300 _____42_____(register) varieties—pinks, whites, purples and reds, along with rarer greens, yellows and even blacks.
Heze cultivates both tree peonies (mudan) and herbaceous peonies (shaoyao). The city isn't just China's largest peony producer but also a place where peonies become part of everyday life _____43_____are more than just flowers — they're food, drink and even fashion. Tourists have created their own tradition too—wearing fresh peony crowns. Sold _____44_____ just 10 yuan ($1.45), each crown is made from a dozen blossoms in full bloom. "You wear one and feel like spring follows_____45_____(your) everywhere," Kerkeni said with a smile.
What; flowing; prosperity; declared; the; have been cultivated; registered; and; for; you
解析:
What
本句主干为_____ she didn't expect was to find them everywhere,其中was是主句的系动词,前面的整个从句是主语从句,作句子的主语。
本句核心为vast, colorful, so many shades _____ (flow) together, shades(色调)是被修饰的名词,与flow(交融、流动)之间是主动关系,因此用现在分词flowing作后置定语,修饰shades,相当于定语从句which flow together。
40题 答案:the
41题 答案:have been cultivated
43题 答案:and
本句主干为the city isn't just... but also a place where peonies become part of everyday life _____ are more than just flowers,其中are more than just flowers和become part of everyday life并列,需要填and。
易错点:易误填that/which,若填that/which,则没有先行词可修饰。
44题 答案:for
45题 答案:you
When Tunisian traveler Samar Kerkeni first arrived in Heze, a quiet city in East China's Shandong province, she expected to see peonies — the country's famed "king of flowers".
结构分析:主从复合句,When引导时间状语从句,a quiet city in East China's Shandong province是同位语,解释说明Heze,破折号后的内容是同位语,解释说明peonies。
But the admiration still blooms today in Heze, officially crowned "Peony Capital of China", with its mild climate and deep-rooted tradition, where peonies have been cultivated for more than 1,500 years.
Heze,with its mild climate...

One Possible Version
Agriculture and Me
In recent years, China’s agriculture has witnessed booming development. To get close to farming, I took part in an agricultural practice last summer. I assisted local farmers in planting seedlings and watering crops. I also observed how intelligent devices improve planting efficiency, which deepened my passion for modern agriculture.
Personally, I plan to study advanced agricultural technology systematically at university. After graduation, I am determined to return to the countryside and serve rural areas heart and soul. I will eagerly make full use of my expertise to popularize advanced eco-friendly farming methods and boost sustainable rural revitalization with my own efforts.

It’s 3 in the morning and the hallway bell rings. It had rung once before, at 1:30, and I knew it would likely ring again. It was going to be a three-bell night. My 100-year-old mom was heading for the bathroom, and that meant I was headed there too.
Until just a few years before, my mom had led an independent life. And then she got pneumonia(肺炎). She needed live-in help, and it took me about 10 seconds to decide that that helper would be me. My life was full but flexible. And so in late 2007, at the age of 59, I moved back in with my mom. In the early days, we managed well. I had part-time caregiving help during the day, and my companion, Lynn, came down from Berkeley one night a week. But gradually, of course, my mom became needier. And that is when two remarkable women entered my life: Eileen Khan, once a nurse taking care of my mother in hospital, and Sinai Latu, a wonderful caregiver of my mother’s friend.
My mom turned 98, then 99, and our care needs continued to inch upward. But I had partners now. As my mom crossed into her 100th year, her mental abilities finally began to falter(衰弱、衰退). I could see it, and it turned out she could see it too. Early one morning, she looked up at me and said, “I think there are two Adelaides. There’s the good Adelaide, who’s smart and pretty and knows things. And there’s the bad Adelaide, who’s ugly and stupid and doesn’t know anything. I’m not sure which one is here right now. But I think it’s the bad Adelaide.” My mom turned 101 and then 102. I turned 65 and then 66.

One Possible Version:
I began to discover darker corners of my personality. Eileen and Sinai accepted my mom’s growing limitations with grace, while I sometimes stomped around the house, slamming doors like an angry teenager. Once, when my obvious frustration brought tears to my mother’s eyes, I felt ashamed but could hardly control my tiredness. However, the two kind women never blamed me. Instead, they comforted me and quietly took on more work, giving me time to calm down. Slowly, I learned to control my temper and treat my mom with more patience, realizing that love needed more than effort—it needed understanding.
I sat with my mom, just holding hands, and I felt a wave of tenderness. She looked at me softly with eyes full of love and gratitude. Although her mind was not as clear as before, she still knew I was the person who cared for her most. At that moment, all my tiredness disappeared. I gently stroked her hand and whispered that I would always be with her. She smiled peacefully, as if all her worries had gone. In that quiet moment, I truly understood that caring for my mom was not a burden, but the warmest and most meaningful journey in my life.

4. What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A. The competition between Venter’s project and the government’s.
B. The influence of Venter’s achievement upon the whole human.
C. The complete process of Venter’s decoding the human genome.
D. The theoretical bases of Venter’s technique of sequencing genome.
5. What is the meaning of the underlined word in Para. 3?
A. represent B. weaken C. dehumanize D. enhance
6. What can be inferred about human genome?
A. Its decoding process was sped up by Venter’s sequencing technique.
B. Its decoding process was completed in April 2003 by Venter himself.
C. Its research by Venter contributed enormously to medical development.
D. Its research was inspired by Venter’s experience in the U.S. Navy.
7. What’s the best title for this passage?
A. Vender completed the sequencing and decoding of the human genome.
B. How genes shape our lives was eventually found out by Vender.
C. Great achievements and Life Experience of a famous genetic scientist.
D. The mapper of the first draft of the human genome passed away.

8. What do we know about Blueprints: How Mathematics Shapes Creativity?
A. The author shows no interest to how math unfolded in art.
B. Math-art connections inside often seem irrelevant.
C. None of math-art connections are truly accurate.
D. Math and art interact with each other in this book.
9. Why does the author appreciate Bach’s The Art of Fugue more deeply?
A. He listened to various musical masterpieces.
B. He perceived its hidden mathematical features.
C. He learned creation rules from the composer.
D. He appreciated it by drawing a rotating shape.
10. What’s the writing style of the book by Marcus du Sautoy?
A. Rigid and academic B. Vivid and easy to understand
C. Brief and abstract D. Serious and pessimistic
11. Where is the passage most probably taken from?
A. A cultural magazine. B. A math textbook.
C. A book review. D. An official biography.

12.What is the passage mainly about?
A. Gamma rays, the most energetic form of light.
B. The dwarf galaxies in the Milky Way.
C. The dark matter in the Milky Way.
D.Why gamma rays haven’t appeared in dwarf galaxies.
13. Why are dwarf galaxies considered perfect for detecting dark matter signals?
A. They have abundant dark matter and weak background radiation.
B. They are much closer to the earth than other galaxies.
C. They obit the Milky Way and produce bright gamma rays.
D.The particles in them are colliding and destroying each other.
14. What does the author mean by saying “the simplest dark matter models may be incomplete”?
A. They fail to include dark matter in dwarf galaxies orbiting the Milky Way.
B. They cannot fully explain the absence of gamma-ray signals in dwarf galaxies.
C. They ignore the impact of background radiation on gamma-ray detection.
D. They overestimate the frequency of dark matter collisions in the universe.
15. What can be inferred about the new model?
A. It assumes dark matter behaves differently in different environments.
B. It proves dark matter does not exist in dwarf galaxies at all.
C. It contradicts the idea that dark matter could be two different particles.
D. It has been widely accepted by astronomers around the world.
