Passage 3

I soon made the fire burn brighter and everyone’s spirits rose high. The room felt warm now. The kids started giggling when Dad handed them each a piece of candy and a coat. Ms. Black looked with a smile. “The children and I have been praying that angels would come to our help and here you come,” she said with tears running down her face. Dad took each of the kids in his big arms and gave them a hug before we left. Out on the truck I felt a warmth that came from deep within and I didn’t even notice the cold.
On the way back home, Dad turned to me and began to explain about the bike I had longed for. It turned out that he and Mom had finally saved enough money to buy that bike for me. On his way to buy me the gift, Dad saw little Robert out of his house with an old thin shirt. “Son, I spent the money saved for your bike buying coats for the children. I hope you understand,” he said. I understood very well. Now the bike seemed very low on my list of priorities. Dad had given me the look on Ms. Black’s face and the joyful smiles of her three children.

Passage 1
【答案】范文:
It was the most challenging ladder climb of my life. My hands trembled, but I forced myself to keep going. With Mr. Rojas’ instructions, I carefully followed every step. I eventually located the right knob and adjusted it as hard as I could. Then, slowly, the huge telescope began to move back to its right angle. Mr. Rojas shouted excitedly, “You made it! You have what it takes to be an astronomer.”
Months later, a letter from MIT arrived in my mailbox at the door. Holding the letter, my heart pounded. The words “Admission Offer” blurred my eyes. I realized immediately — Mr. Rojas had written the recommendation letter! I ran to my father. He hugged me tightly. As we celebrated under the vast night sky, the memory of that ladder climb filled me with pride. At that moment, I felt the universe was much closer than ever before and the stars were smiling down at me.
Passage 2
【答案】参考范文:
Emma walked onto the stage alone, with her heart pounding. The piano had never felt so distant, or cold under her trembling fingers. The spotlight blinded her for a moment, but she sat down, took a deep breath, and began. Her soft melody filled the hall, gentle and slow, like waves brushing the shore. But something felt wrong. The notes were there, the lyrics were there— but the spark wasn’t. Without Ryan’s voice weaving through hers, the song sounded empty. Her fingers hesitated mid-verse. For a long second, silence wrapped the room.
Seeing Emma’s struggle, Ryan stood up and walked toward the stage without hesitation. Only when Ryan stepped into the light did Emma look up, her eyes wide with surprise and hope. Without saying a word, Ryan took the mi c and nodded. As Emma picked up the melody again, Ryan’s voice joined hers — rich, steady, and full of the emotion they had once poured into every note together. The tension was gone, replaced by the rhythm of trust. By the final note, the auditorium erupted in applause. It was not the polished solo acts that won the crowd, but the imperfect, heartfelt reunion of two friends who had found their way back to each other — through music.

Soon, Amy stopped by the bench and sat on the other end. She found that the man was looking at her strangely. She looked at him and quickly noticed his messy clothes and hair, and she was soon faced with a strong and unpleasant smell of body sweat. The man appeared embarrassed, thinking, “If she asks me to leave, I’ll leave.” To his surprise, Amy just smiled at him. They both sat there quietly. Amy was reading while the man was watching the filming. Finally, the man was so hungry that he felt he would faint soon.
Gathering his courage, the man asked Amy, “Madam. I’m so hungry. Could you give me a hand?” Amy replied, “Wait a minute.” Then, she rushed to her car and came back with food and water. The man thanked Amy sincerely and then enjoyed the delicious food. As she was about to leave, Amy gave the man some money. Touched, the man said to Amy, “Usually, people won’t even look at me, let alone sit by me and give me money. Thank you for treating me like a human being.” Amy smiled, glad that her small action brought an unlucky person joy and warmth.

Passage 1
【答案】
Suddenly, a familiar figure came into my camera lens. It was Dad, standing at the end of the street, dressed warmly against the cold, watching me with a gentle smile. My heart skipped a beat as I realized he had come for my birthday. I lowered my phone, feeling a warmth that surpassed the snow’s chill. We locked eyes for a moment, and then he slowly walked towards me, breaking the silence with a “Happy Birthday, son.”
I opened the beautifully crafted wooden box beside the birthday cake. Inside lay a handmade leather wallet, each stitch meticulously done. Tears welled up in my eyes as I recognized my father’s touch. He had always been there, in his own way, expressing his love through his craft. “I know I’ve been busy, but I wanted to make something special for you,” he said softly. That moment, all my doubts melted away, replaced by a deep understanding of the love that had never truly left.

【答案】One possible version:
Molly cried so loudly that Danny heard her as soon as he arrived home. Danny rushed to Molly’s room, his heart pounding with concern. “Molly, what’s wrong?” he asked, kneeling beside her bed. Through her sobs, Molly managed to explain about the prom and how she felt left out. Danny’s heart ached for his daughter. He knew this was more than just a dance; it was about feeling accepted and loved. “Molly, I promise you, we’ll figure this out together,” he said, his voice firm yet gentle. That night, Danny stayed up late, thinking of ways to make his daughter’s prom experience special.
On prom day, Danny accompanied Molly to the prom. As they arrived, he guided her through the crowd, introducing her to some of his friends’ children who were also attending. He made sure she had someone to talk to and didn’t feel alone. He even took the opportunity to dance with her, showing her that her limp didn’t matter — what mattered was the joy they shared together. As the night progressed, Molly began to relax and enjoy the festivities, laughing and dancing more freely. By the end of the night, the bond between father and daughter had strengthened significantly. They left the prom with smiles on their faces, knowing that they had created a memory that would last a lifetime.
Passage 3
【答案】One possible version:
After sending the email, I felt a heavy weight on my mind. Would he respond? I waited for his reply, nervously opening up the mail each day. There was no reply. To my surprise, I received a hand-written letter from my father. I read the letter again and again, disbelief washing over me — it wasn’t the distant, silent dad I thought but someone wise and approachable. The sweet childhood memories flooded in my mind. I had lost my Ultra-man. His words aroused my desire to meet him, to seek for the love that we had lost for so long.
I visited my father soon after receiving his letter. On seeing my grey-haired father, I threw my arms around him tightly. The disappointment of the past seemed to melt away, replaced by a shared history of laughter, tears, and the unspoken desire for connection. Though our paths had been apart, they were now coming back together. It was a conversation filled with a quiet understanding. It was a conversation filled with shared openness. It was a conversation filled with unexpected warmth. Together, we stepped forward on a journey towards healing and forgiveness between a father and a son.

During the afternoon hike, Ronnie tripped over a hidden root and hurt his ankle. As he cried in pain, the group gathered around, unsure of what to do. Despite a few metres away, I immediately rushed forward to help him. “Are you okay, Ronnie?” I asked, examining the injured ankle. Ronnie, shocked by my kindness, said hesitantly, “I think so, but I can’t put any weight on it.” I offered Ronnie a shoulder to lean on, helping him to his feet as the others watched in astonishment. Together, we made our way back to the campsite, supporting Ronnie every step.
At the campsite, Ronnie turned to me, “Thanks, Tim. I... I didn’t expect you to help me.” “It’s no big deal, Ronnie. We’re classmates after all.” I responded. Upon hearing what I had said, Ronnie was deeply moved and grabbed my hands tightly. Surprised at this sudden turn of events, I managed a smile. Ronnie was ashamed that it had taken him such a long time to realise the impact of his actions. From then on, Ronnie began standing up for me whenever others tried to belittle me. Meanwhile, I regained my confidence, feeling more at ease in class and social activities. As my self-confidence grew, so did our friendship.
Passage 2
【答案】范文:
Building the online museum was a huge six-month project. First, I selected roughly 650 of my favorite wrappers and sorted them into several themes such as Celebrities, Tourist Attractions, Holidays, Animals and Buildings. I photographed them and wrote lighthearted comments to provide each visitor with my personal tour. Then, I bought a book on how to build a website and with the help of my family and friends, finally, I built the site, setting up the Candy Wrapper Museum.
When the museum was launched, I doubted whether anyone would be interested. To my surprise, without any promotion, the site went viral. Many people, especially those of my age, commented on my website, saying these candy wrappers reminded them of the happy times in their childhood. The sudden burst of popularity even attracted the attention of Jeffrey S. Green, who was looking for a “forever home” for the wrappers after his company closed down. I was glad I helped people uncover connections to valuable memories from their past.
Passage 3
【答案】参考范文:
Then the gentleman took the initiative to break the silence and started talking to me. He asked about my day, his eyes kind and sincere. At first, I hesitated to share with a stranger, but his warm smile and the festive spirit in the air encouraged me to open up. I told him about my father, the struggles of my working, and the quiet Thanksgiving we were having at home. He listened attentively, comforting me occasionally with uplifting and loving words. After quite a while, the bus stopped. The man pulled himself up, glanced at his bag and then said to me, “I get off here. Hope you a happy Thanksgiving.” Feeling inspired, I waved him goodbye.
He was nearly off the bus when suddenly I found he forgot his shopping bag. Before the bus doors shut, I rushed to the doors and called out to him, “Wait! You forgot your bag!” “I left it for you. Keep it, girl!” he responded, still with a warm smile. Then the bus doors closed behind him, and the gentleman faded away from my sight. Shocked and delighted, I returned to my seat to take the shopping bag, carefully unfolding it. There lived a box of chocolate, a bright tiny music box and a brand-new scarf. Recognizing the kindness of the gentleman, I felt a sense of hope for life.

Passage 1
【答案】One possible version:
“I can paint on the yellow tactile paving to draw more attention!” Lily thought. She rushed home, grabbed her acrylic paints and stencils, and returned to the disrupted path. With careful strokes, she outlined bright red arrows around the obstacles and painted bold yellow stripes to reconnect the broken tactile paving. A café owner, curious, brought her a ladder to reach higher spots. Soon, a delivery rider paused to help mix colors, while a group of schoolkids stenciled “BLIND PATH — KEEP CLEAR!” in giant blue letters.
With so many people painting together, the dull, ignored paths took on a new look. The next morning, Mr. Evans tapped his cane along the repainted route — no longer hesitating at missing ridges. At the crosswalk, a newly added braille plaque read: “Safe path ahead. Thank you, Lily & friends.” Neighbors now moved bikes and trash bins without being asked. Lily watched in joy as a young mother knelt to explain the paintings to her child: “These colors help people who can’t see walk safely.” The streets hadn’t just changed visually — they’d learned to care.
Passage 2
【答案】
I threw the bag over my shoulder, and we set off. We pedaled as fast as we could, hoping to catch up with the Voyageur before it reached Macon. The wind rushed past us, and I could hear Gabriel’s heavy breathing beside me. “We have to make it!” I shouted, though I wasn’t sure if we would. The road seemed endless, but the thought of returning the bag to the girl kept us going. As we rounded a bend, I saw the riverboat in the distance, moving steadily along the river.
When we finally arrived at Macon’s dock, the Voyageur was already there. Passengers were disembarking, and I spotted the girl and her mom among them. I ran up to them, out of breath, and handed over the bag. “You left this on the bench,” I said. The girl’s eyes widened in surprise, and she hugged the bag tightly. “Thank you so much!” she exclaimed. Her mom smiled and thanked us too. I realized then that helping others could bring such joy, which was a feeling far better than any souvenir or pastry.
Passage 3
【答案】One possible version:
College proved challenging yet incredibly rewarding. There were many classes to attend every day, during which the professors required us to read a lot of books. So I spent a great deal of my time in the library. I cherished this hard-won learning opportunity very much. At the same time, in order to earn money to cover my living expenses, I did some part-time jobs. At graduation, I earned a bachelor’s degree in English for Education and set out on my own career as a teacher.
I dropped by Mrs. Martin’s office again after my graduation. Overcome with gratitude and the realization that she had truly given me a new life, I couldn’t wait to tell her I had graduated with honors, and that I would be teaching in a high school. With tears in my eyes, I continued, “If you had not believed in me and encouraged me, I would never have gone to college. ”Hearing about my achievements, she felt very proud and inspired me to guide my students like she did. Of course, I would treat my students the way she treated me.

Jane, a high school senior in Willowbrook, was always alone at her home because her parents were often occupied with their work, even in the evening and she had to take on the household chores, including taking care of their garden. Nevertheless, though she dutifully tended to the garden, it never appeared attractive due to her poor knowledge of gardening.
One evening, Jane was left alone at home again. She sat by the window, doing her homework. When she looked outside, through the rain-spattered window, she noticed a figure lingering under the streetlamp across the street. The man, wearing a long black coat, seemed to be looking directly at her house. Jane’s heart skipped a beat as their eyes briefly met.
Actually this wasn’t the first time that Jane had seen the man in the neighborhood. He never spoke to anyone, and he always seemed to be alone. Jane had mentioned him to her parents, who said he was new to this town and was a gardener. However, Jane couldn’t shake the feeling of fear.
That evening, as the man lingered across the street, Jane dialed Mrs. Baker’s number with trembling fingers. Mrs. Baker, who lived just a few houses away, was a kind elderly woman who had always been like a grandmother to Jane. “Mrs. Baker, there’s a man outside, and he’s been standing there for a while. I’m scared,” Jane whispered into the phone. “I’ll be right over, dear,” Mrs. Baker tried to calm Jane down.
Moments later, Mrs. Baker arrived at. Together, they went to the window and peered (仔细看) out. The man was still there, but he was holding something in his hands. Jane’s fear grew. “What if he’s dangerous?” Jane murmured. Mrs. Baker patted Jane’s shoulder and said, “Let’s not jump to a conclusion so quickly.” Just then, the man began walking toward Jane’s house. Jane’s heart pounded as he approached the front door. But instead of knocking, he bent down and placed something on the porch (门廊). Then, he turned around and walked away.

Every child hopes for gifts for Christmas. But it seemed that my family didn’t have enough money to buy me the bike that I’d wanted for Christmas. After supper was over on Christmas eve, I sat at the table, feeling sorry for myself.
It was cold outside. Soon Dad came back. “Come on, Eric,” he said. “Put on warm clothes. It’s cold out tonight.” I was really upset then. Not only was I not getting the bike for Christmas, but now Dad was dragging me out in the cold. But anyway, I got up and followed him.
Outside, in front of the house, our old truck was ready. The cold was already biting at me. Dad went into the woodshed (柴房) and came out with an armload of wood. “Dad,” I asked, “what are you doing?” He said, “I passed by Ms. Black’s house today. She is a single mother of three kids. Her eldest son, 8-year-old Robert, was out digging around in the woodpile trying to find a few chips. He was just wearing an old thin shirt, trembling with cold. They’re out of wood, Eric.” That was all he said and then he turned and went back into the room for a big ham. He handed them to me and told me to put them in the truck and wait. When he returned, he was carrying a bag of something in his hand. “What’s in the bag?” I asked. “Coats. They’re out of warm clothes. I got the children a little candy too. It just wouldn’t be Christmas without a little candy.”
We drove two miles to Ms. Black’s house. We stopped at the gate and unloaded the wood, then we took the other things to the door. Ms. Black opened the door and let us in. The room felt cold. Such a small fire could hardly give off any heat at all. So Dad asked me to add more wood to the fire.

Father worked as a mechanic at Cerro Tololo observatory, where giant telescopes searched the night sky. The biggest one lived in a huge white building with a round roof that could open. Fascinated by learning about the universe, I was willing to help around. Over time, I learned how telescopes worked and even helped adjust its knobs (旋钮) when they weren’t pointing right. At night, I loved watching through the open roof as the long telescope tube turned to look at the stars. Slowly, my dream took shape — go to university to study astronomy!
MIT had always been my dream school. Eager to explore the universe, I applied to its top astronomy program. But no one believed a working-class girl from Indiana could study astronomy at university — There was no way to get a powerful recommendation letter. Without it, I would never be admitted to a university. But Mr. Rojas, a Spanish astronomer at Cerro Tololo observatory, who knew about my dream from my father, smiled at me. “Astronomy needs both effort and sharp eyes,” he’d encourage. “Work hard, and your chance will come.”
Hearing his warm words, I felt the night sky stars speaking to me.
One evening, on my way home, when I passed the observatory, I suddenly noticed the telescope pointing downward strangely. Something was wrong with the telescope! I was sure. I had often helped my father reset this device. Should I reset it to avoid any damage to it? But what if I was wrong? I looked around. No adults around. So, taking a deep breath, I slipped into the observatory room. Above, Mr. Rojas was doing his check-up.
“Who is down there?” he shouted, with a hint of unease in his voice. “Sir, I think there’s a problem with one of the telescopes.” I replied. Mr. Rojas looked around and spotted me, “Child, it’s you! The platform lift (升降台) is stuck... I can’t get down!” “I’ll run and get the night duty officer,” I turned to leave. “No, no time for that! The telescope will suffer mechanical damage in minutes... it’ll break. You must reset it first. I’ll guide you.” He urged anxiously, pointing at the ladder leading to the telescope.

In the coastal town of Seabrook, Emma and Ryan had always shared a love for music. Since elementary school, they’d been a perfect duo (搭档) — Emma played the piano, and Ryan sang with a voice that attracted many people’s attention. Over the years, they’d performed at school events, birthday parties, and even significant ceremonies. Everyone called them “Seabrook Sound”, and they secretly dreamed of studying in a prestigious art institute in the city together.
This year, the school was hosting a talent showcase. The winner would get a scholarship and a guaranteed spot at the school of their dreams. Emma and Ryan were determined to win. They decided to write an original song— one that combined Emma’s soft melodies with Ryan’s powerful vocals. It was a bold move, but they believed in their partnership.
At first, things flowed naturally and lyrics came like waves on the shore. But as they got deeper into the process, cracks began to form. Emma wanted the song to be about quiet perseverance, something deep and poetic. Ryan, on the other hand, wanted a more upbeat song — catchy, loud, something that would get the audience clapping.
“I don’t want to sound like a sad diary,” Ryan shouted one afternoon. “And I don’t want to play a terrible song,” Emma fired back.
Their teamwork turned into silent standoffs (僵局). Ryan began skipping practice, choosing to record musical ideas on his own. Emma did the same, writing new versions of the song late into the night, her fingers dancing over the keys alone. Pride, frustration, and unspoken hurt grew between them like a wall.
The day of the showcase arrived. The hall was filled with excitement, and students backstage were busy warming up or pacing nervously. Emma and Ryan barely spoke as they took their places at opposite ends of the dressing room. They had each prepared their own version of the song, determined to perform solo(独自地).

It was 8:00 am, and Amy pulled her car up beside a quiet park. While her kids, the student moviemakers, jumped out of the car and started unloading equipment to make a film in the park, she sat in the driver’s seat, reading a book.
She suddenly felt a little sad. These kids used to need a parent’s advice, help and caring. Now, as older teenagers, they were making their own decisions. She was just their driver. Anything else that she might be able to give to them was unwelcome and not required.
Emptied of its movie-related contents, the car only had bags of snacks and water and some personal items left. Amy’s job, as the driver, was to stay within calling distance with the keys so that if anything was needed she could open the car. Amy got out of the car, looking around for a place to sit down to finish reading her book in the fresh air.
It was early, but the sun was already beating down, and Amy didn’t want to sit in the heat. She found a park bench (长椅) against a wall, in the shade. She noticed that a man was sitting on one end, but there was plenty of room for at least two more people.
When she was slowly walking in the man’s direction, the man noticed her. He thought she probably was just having a walk around and wouldn’t come to sit by him. He had just spent the night on the bench. Besides dirty clothes and hair, he had a smell of body sweat. He knew he was an unwelcome person. Usually people wouldn’t even look at him, let alone sit by him.
“What if the lady asks me to leave and sits here by herself?” the man wondered. It was a hot day, and it wasn’t easy for him to find another place to sit out of the sun. Moreover, he hadn’t eaten any food for so long that he didn’t have much strength to move around.

【答案】

It was my 18th birthday and the sky was blanketed with a gentle snowfall, creating a quiet atmosphere. It seemed like an age since we last saw the ground so fantastically carpeted, just like last year when I spent the whole day expecting Dad to come back. The snowflakes danced gracefully in the cold winter breeze. I stood there, lost in thought.
When I was young, my father, who was an expert at handicraft, was my hero and my inspiration. However, he had seldom communicated with me since I was in middle school. Despite my longing for a connection with him, he had always been distant due to his busy work schedule. My Mum always told me that busy though Dad was, he was really concerned about me. But I couldn ‘ t help but feel that he didn ‘ t like me anymore. Otherwise, why would he have ignored me for such a long time ?
“Why not take a walk before your birthday party ?” Mum interrupted my thoughts, “Sure, Mum !” The common scenes in streets looked so familiar to me, each marked with my happy childhood. The snowflakes continued to dance, painting a still scene outside.“ Amazing !” I couldn ‘ t help uttering. I reached into my pocket and pulled out my mobile phone to capture the beauty of nature frozen in time. My heart leapt with joy and some expectations as if a dream were stirring inside.

Passage 2
8.(23-24高二下·山西·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Molly’s dad, Danny, and her mom Daisy had divorced ten years before. Since then, Molly has only heard terrible things about her dad from her mom. However, Molly didn’t have any bitterness towards Danny. She often missed their dad-daughter connection. After her mom’s death, things were going to change for Molly.
Danny was delighted to meet Molly again. The only link he had with his daughter all these years was through the child support he paid for her because Daisy never allowed him to see Molly.
Danny packed all of Molly’s stuff and told her they were going to his house. “But why, Dad? I didn’t want to leave this house. Mom and I lived here. It’s filled with our memories,” Molly said.
However, Danny knew he could not leave his daughter alone, particularly considering her situation. Due to an underlying condition she had developed in her left leg when she was six, Molly limped (一瘸一拐地走).
Eventually, Molly moved into her dad’s house. The house was small and unfamiliar to Molly. In fact, after all these years apart, she didn’t feel very close to her dad, either.
The father realized that his daughter was not adapted to the new home and kept him at a distance as well. He did everything on his end to make his daughter feel loved and included. He vacated (腾出) his bedroom so that Molly would have a nice space to sleep. He even bought a new bed so that she could rest well.
A few days later, Molly stepped down from the school bus and entered their house. Hours passed, but Danny didn’t return home. Molly made herself a meal, leaving some for her dad. Then she lay on her bed crying. It turned out that Molly’s teacher had informed them about their upcoming senior prom (毕业舞会). All her classmates had found prom dates except for Molly. Nobody was interested in taking her. She figured — who would want to dance with someone with a limp?

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Passage 3
9.(24-25高二下·山西吕梁·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was a kid, my father was my hero. He was an Ultra-man to me. Everything seemed a piece of cake for him and there was nothing that could challenge him. As the only child of my family, I was the apple of his eye. Most of his spare time was spent with me, playing sports and games, or even just chatting. Both of us enjoyed ourselves.
As time went by, however, everything changed. As a teenager, I became a troublemaker unknowingly, which was completely different from the expectation of my father. It was typical of me to break the school rules every now and then in high school. And presenting my school report to my parents was a nightmare for me. My mother kept criticizing me while my father talked with me seriously about my behavioral problems, hoping to stop the situation from worsening. But in vain.
In the last year of my senior high, my father became silent and distant, having no idea how to deal with me. That was even more painful to me. I hated being ignored and avoided meeting him. We lived under the same roof, but we were a thousand miles away from each other. I continued to have trouble with school until I chose to drop out and pursue my own interest. I became totally focused on my spiritual growth, which sent desperate disappointment through my father’s mind. There were many hard feelings between us, feelings that hardened as I grew up.
For much of my twenties, I went about my life without much of a relationship with my dad. We had stopped conversations, and there existed a wall, thick and cold, between us. I knew healing my relationship with Dad was important, but how to go about it was another story. My feelings of being ignored by Dad were my deepest wound.
Things became different when I had my own kids. I decided to do something to reconnect with my father. Finally, I sent him an email.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【导语】本文以人物为线索展开,主要讲述了作者小时候视父亲为英雄,但随着成长,作者变得叛逆,与父亲关系疏远。多年后,又因成为父亲而重新修复父子关系的感人故事。

I sat in a quiet corner in the classroom to read, escaping the bullying (欺凌) of Ronnie and his fellows. The peace was broken by Ronnie, whose bullying knew no bounds.
“Look at Shy Tim, hiding in the shadows again?” Ronnie laughed.
Upon hearing Ronnie’s voice, I attempted to press myself against the wall, as if trying to make myself smaller. Barely whispering, I replied, “I…I don’t want any trouble.” Laughter erupted around me. I longed to defend myself but felt afraid.
The bullying went beyond words. Ronnie seized every chance to embarrass me. He often took advantage of my fear of public speaking, putting me in situations where my fear would be obvious for all to see. Once, when the teacher asked for volunteers for a presentation, Ronnie intentionally suggested that I go first. My palms sweated and my mouth tightened. This made it difficult for me to speak fluently.
On another occasion, Ronnie decided to play a terrible joke on me. While I was hurriedly searching for my wallet in the classroom, Ronnie and his fellows held the wallet out of reach, asking “Looking for something, Shy Tim?” Before I could react, Ronnie ran away. In spite of my attempts to grab the wallet from his hand, I did not manage to do so. Eventually, Ronnie dropped the wallet on the ground and walked away, laughing at my embarrassment. Feeling really sad, I hid my face behind my hands in case my classmates saw me in this bad situation.
During a school camp, our relationship took a significant turn. While wandering around the campsite, I came across a diary lying on the ground. Picking it up, I realized it belonged to Ronnie upon examining its cover. Eagerly, I began going through its pages. As I read, I was struck by his entries. I came to learn of Ronnie’s challenges at home and his pressure to do well in school. This discovery completely changed my view of him. He was not as bad as I had thought.

【答案】

In 2020, an unattractive package arrived at my front door. Inside was a 2-by-4-foot scrapbook (剪贴簿) filled with candy wrappers (包装纸) that were over 70 years old. It was sent by Jeffrey S. Green, a former president of a famous candy company. After the company closed down, the scrapbook traveled 2,950 miles to La Verne, California, to the farm my family and I call home.
I’m the founder of the online website Roadside Attraction: Candy Wrapper Museum, where I share the little pieces of paper I’ve collected over the decades. Why? Because these small objects serve as a time machine, opening an emotional door to the past.
I was 15 years old when I started collecting candy wrappers, inspired by friends who had cool collections like beer bottles from around the world. I wanted to start one of my own, but of what? I usually spent my few coins on candy at the 7-Eleven. The candy shelves were a wonderland of tasty treats with colorful wrappers in different themes, all shouting, “Pick me!”
Then inspiration struck me. Instead of throwing away those wrappers, I would save them. I would create the Candy Wrapper Museum and I hoped that the wrappers would one day be enjoyed as art. It was 1977, and I had a plan: I would collect these wrappers throughout my lifetime, and then open-up the museum as a roadside attraction in my old age. I chose my first pieces: Nice Mice and Cinnamon Teddy Bears, and so began this journey.
My family members were the first to leave the candy wrappers to me. Then the relatives. My friends caught the spirit of fun and donated pieces. Collecting became an affordable and novel way to explore the world around me, one that could even turn a boring shopping trip into a treasure hunt.
In 2019, inspiration struck me again. Why wait until retirement? Why not open the museum right now on the Internet, the ultimate “superhighway”?

Passage 3
12.(23-24高二下·陕西汉中·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
That year, I was 16 years old and my father had just passed away in that cold late autumn. There were no Thanksgiving celebrating plans in my family that year. To make ends meet, my mother worked two jobs as a cleaning lady, and I had a part-time job in the downtown. It was the Thanksgiving night and it was raining and blowing. The shops were closed and the streets were decorated with the colorful lamps for the grant festival. My shift at work was over and I waited for the bus alone in the station.
The wind blew my thin coat and threatened to tear my worn-out hand-knit hat that my mother had knitted for me years ago. Wearing a pair of discolored pants, I shivered against the cold wind, deep in thought about how my father’s death led to my family heart broken and how my mother and I struggled to work to support our family.
A bus approached as I thought these things. Fortunately, a seat on the bus was unoccupied and I took it with delight, placing my feet on the perfect spot close to the heater. I cherished the small comfort of the warmth as it seeped (渗透) through the bottom of my wet feet.
Then a gentleman, perhaps in his 60s, appeared from somewhere in the back of the bus. He wore a hat and a fine woolen scarf. Then he stopped and sat down next to me, placing a shopping bag between us. Through the transparent shopping bag under my nose, I vaguely saw a box with chocolate printed on it, a box with a music box printed on it, and a clothing-type thing. These must be the gifts for a certain girl and I also wished to get such gifts. When he noticed my stare, I looked away immediately and curled up to keep warm, or rather, to hide my embarrassment.

Passage 1
13.(24-25高二下·陕西安康·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Lily was walking home from school, lost in thoughts about her math test, when a sudden movement ahead caught her eye. An elderly man, his white walking stick tapping nervously, stumbled (绊倒) awkwardly. He had tripped where the yellow tactile (触觉的) paving — the special path for the blind — disappeared under a parked delivery truck! His walking stick missed the curb edge entirely. Lily’s heart jumped. “Careful!” she cried, rushing forward just as he started to fall. She grabbed his arm firmly, steadying him.
“Oh! Thank you, young lady,” the man breathed, his voice shaky. “The path… it disappeared suddenly. So confusing.” Lily felt a wave of sadness. “It’s okay,” she said gently. “Where are you going? I’ll help you get there safely.” Holding his arm, she carefully guided Mr. Evans (as he introduced himself) past the truck, around several bikes chained to a lamppost right on the path, and over a pile of rubbish bags blocking the way. Each barrier made Lily angrier. How could people be so thoughtless?
After safely delivering Mr. Evans to his apartment building ten minutes away, Lily walked back slowly. This time, she really looked. Her eyes scanned the familiar streets with new understanding. The yellow paths meant to guide people who couldn’t see were constantly occupied: scooters (踏板车) leaned casually, café tables and chairs spread across them, cars parked with wheels crushing the vital ridges. It wasn’t just one truck; it was everywhere! Worry knotted her stomach. Mr. Evans could have been seriously hurt. How many others faced this danger every single day? Someone needed to make people see the problem, to make them care. But how? Suddenly, an idea came into Lily’s mind like a bright firework!

With so many people painting together, the dull, ignored paths took on a new look.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

When we arrived in Tournus, my cousin Gabriel and I parked our bikes near the dock (码头) and walked to the town square. We’d just ridden 33 kilometers. We were starving and planned to get lunch and then ride back to Macon, a small city in France on the Saône River. I was spending the summer there with Gabriel’s family.
It was market day. Locals moved about, filling their baskets with groceries. Tourists hunted for souvenirs. Gabriel and I bought a long, thin loaf of bread called a baguette and some Brie, a soft cheese I’m obsessed with.
As we ate, I noticed a girl wearing a Basketball T-shirt. She smiled at us and stopped to buy pastries with someone that I guessed was her mom because they looked so much alike.
I saw them again by the river. They sat on a bench enjoying their pastries in front of a long, narrow riverboat named Voyageur, which had docked (靠岸) earlier. Then they boarded the boat. It was preparing to leave when I spotted a colorful shopping bag on the bench. The girl had left it! I looked up. Some passengers were gathering on the upper deck of the riverboat, including the girl and her mom.
I held up the bag and waved it to get their attention while Gabriel called to them in French and English. “Excusez-moi, mesdames! Excuse me, ladies! ”
When the girl noticed the bag, she opened her mouth in surprise. But her face fell as the boat started to pull away from the dock. She didn’t think she’d get her stuff back.
’Maybe we can throw it to her, Hugo! ” Gabriel said.
“It’s too light, ” I said. “It would end up in the river. We have to find a way to return it! ”
Running along side the boat, Gabriel learned from a sailor that the boat’s next stop was
Macon — our destination as well. It would take the boat just under two hours.
“Do you think we can keep up? ” I asked.
Gabriel laughed. “We’re about to find out! ”

I have recently retired from my teaching position. I know how powerfully one teacher can impact the life of a person.
Because I was born in the poorest family in town, I quit high school to get a job. With no education and skills, I only found factory jobs or waitress work, which barely kept a roof over our heads.
One day, searching the job ads, I found a notice that our local community college offered training for those who qualified under a government program. It included a stipend (津贴) for the hours as well as the training. One requirement was a high school diploma (毕业文凭) or GED (General Educational Development) certificate. Fortunately, after dropping out of school, I took the GED test and received my certificate, but with such low scores, I was ashamed to show it to anyone. However. I still decided to go to the school to meet the advisor who would assess me. Her name was Ruby Martin
I was prepared to hear her criticize me for my low scores and wasting her valuable time. However, she did the opposite. “You are so young. Why are you applying for this training program instead of applying to college?” she asked.
I whispered, “Because I am poor and stupid. . . ”
She looked gently at me and said, “Since you have got the GED certificate, you are not stupid at all.” For the next hour, she explained that I could go to college with the help of financial support. She also assured me I would make an excellent candidate for the job training program.
Throughout the twelve week training, Mrs. Martin came in every few days and spoke to several of us, including me. She was encouraging and supportive. The basic skills we learned in that program made it possible for me to get a job as a retail clerk and bookkeeper, but the words of Mrs. Martin echoed (回响) in my mind. One day, armed with some hope and questions, I dropped by Mrs, Martin's office. She took the time to guide me toward the financial-aid office. With her help, I managed to be admitted into the college.

With her parents support, Maya dedicated herself to perfecting her writing skills. It wasn’t always easy, as she faced numerous rejections and setbacks along the way. Doubts and fear would occasionally creep in, but Maya refused to give up. At last, Maya received an email that changed everything. She had won the writing competition and was invited to the workshop she had dreamed about. Excitement coursed through her veins as she couldn’t wait to meet the famous writers.
At the workshop, Maya met aspiring writers from all walks of life. She learned from experienced authors, listened to their stories of struggles and success, and soaked up their wisdom. The workshop not only enhanced her writing skills but also ignited a fire within her to share her unique voice with the world.
Filled with newfound confidence, Maya returned home and continued to write with enthusiasm. She submitted her work to various publishing houses.

Passage 3
