I am Li Hua, proud to represent my class in this speech contest. Today, I’d like to talk about one of China’s most impressive scientific achievements—mobile payment.
Mobile payment, like Alipay and WeChat Pay, is widely used in China. You don’t need to carry cash or bank cards; just a smartphone is enough. It influences our daily life in many ways. When buying breakfast at the street shop, we scan a QR code to pay. When taking a bus or subway, we use mobile payment too. Even when shopping online, it’s fast and safe. For example, my mom used to wait in long lines to pay at the supermarket, but now she pays in seconds with her phone. It also helps people in small towns and villages—they can sell local products online and get paid quickly.
Mobile payment makes life simpler and faster. It’s a great example of how tech improves our daily lives. Thank you for listening!
With the rose carefully in hand, Liam hurried home to surprise his grandma. He found her in her armchair by the window, knitting. "Grandma, look! For your birthday!" he announced, presenting the bloom. Her hands stilled, and her eyes widened in genuine astonishment. The rose was a deep, rich red, its petals opening gracefully. "Oh, Liam... it's exquisite," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. But then a touch of concern crossed her face. "This is too precious, dear. However did you manage it?" Liam, his face glowing with accomplishment, recounted his afternoons with Mr. Ortiz, his desire to give her a piece of the garden she missed so much. Moved beyond words, she drew him into a tight embrace, her heart swelling with pride and love.
Suddenly, they noticed a small seed packet hidden among the leaves. It was handmade, labeled in elegant script: "For a New Beginning – Timeless Rose Seeds." Confused and touched, they decided to return to the garden at once to thank Mr. Ortiz properly. He seemed to have been expecting them. With a gentle smile, he explained that the seeds were a special variety he had saved for years, a gift for them to plant a garden of their own memories. He had been so touched by Liam's devotion that he wanted to contribute to it. Overwhelmed by his generosity, Grandma, with tears in her eyes, insisted that Mr. Ortiz join them for a proper birthday dinner the following weekend, an invitation he gladly accepted.
【Text1】
W: Excuse me, could you let me have a double room?
M: Yes, madam. How long would you be staying here, please?
W: I don’t know, but it could be anything from seven to ten days. I would like to have a room far from the noisy street if possible.
【Text2】
M: You look depressed. What’s eating you?
W: Our dog. He’s missing.
M: Oh, I know how you feel. There’s not so much we can do about it. Why don’t you put an ad in the paper?
【Text3】
M: Susan, I’m going to draw the curtain. Is that all right with you?
W: But I’m trying to read.
M: Well, you see, I want to watch this movie on TV and the sun’s shining on the screen.
W: Oh, all right. But I’d like the light on.
【Text4】
W: Would you please wrap the shoes first? I would like to buy a sweater. How much does the green one cost?
M: 80 dollars. The shoes are 60 dollars. I can take off ten percent from the prices.
W: OK. I will take them.
【Text5】
M: So this is your new digital one. How about night pictures?
W: You can use flashlight when taking pictures in the dark. And it has an above-average battery life.
【Text6】
W: Would you mind if I take John to the park, Mr. White?
M: You’d better not take him out. He has a heavy cold. And today is cold.
W: OK. I see. What about his bedtime?
M: Let him go to bed earlier because he can’t sleep well this afternoon.
W: Yes. But do you think you will be home earlier?
M: Oh, I don’t have any appointments. Why?
W: Well, you know I usually don’t mind baby-sitting later. But tomorrow is school day, and I have an important exam.
M: I see. I’m sure to be back before 9:00.
【Text7】
W: How did it go, Steven?
M: We won.
W: Well done! What was the score?
M: Three-nothing to Happy Valley.
W: Your team must have played very well.
M: Yes. Our boys ran faster and kicked harder than the others.
W: Who scored the goals?
M: A new member called Geoff.
W: Did he score all three?
M: Yes. He is a brilliant football player. He ran the fastest and kicked the hardest of all.
W: Why didn’t you score any goals?
M: I twisted my ankle in the first half. I had to leave the pitch and watch.
【Text8】
W: It’s Saturday tomorrow. We’ll take Jerry out. Where shall we go?
M: Well, how about going to the museum?
W: What kind of museum? History? Science? Art?
M: I like history museums. They’re interesting.
W: Oh, Henry. History museums are boring. Let’s go to a science museum.
M: Science? We always go to science museums. I don’t like science museums.
W: Then let’s go to the children’s museum. They’re more fun. Besides, Jerry would like it too.
M: Well, I’m too old for a children’s museum. Why don’t we go to an art museum?
W: That’s a good idea. There is a lot of fun for children there. Let’s go to the art museum.
M: By the way, the parking lot there is small. We have to get there earlier to park our car.
W: You’re right. We have to leave before 8.
【Text9】
M: Many of us watched the 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland on Saturday night. I know I did. I’m here to interview Joan Jett. Welcome, Joan, and congratulations on your honor.
W: Thank you!
M: So your biggest hit was “I Love Rock’n’ Roll” in 1982. What do you like about rock and roll?
W: It’s a feeling, an emotion. You don’t think about it. If you start thinking about rock’n’ roll, you won’t get it. That’s when it gets boring.
M: You are also known for making it okay to be a female rocker. You definitely broke some ground there. You were accepted by even the craziest male rock stars.
W: Yeah, I was just being me. I wore black leather and jeans. I had long, blond hair. And I named my band the Blackhearts.
M: Three of your albums hit the Top 20 —— “I Love Rock’n’ Roll”, “Album” and “Up Your Alley”. Your attitude and choices were a major influence on other female rockers.
W: I’m not done yet. Stay tuned. I can still get on stage, play the guitar, and sing!
【Text10】
All right, let’s start today’s lesson. We are going to make fruit salad today. Here I have got some apples, pears and bananas. You may use grapes or strawberries when you make it at home. Now I’ll tell you how to do it. Please listen to me carefully. First, you have to wash the fruit and peel the skin. Next, take out the seeds from the apples and pears. Then, you can take a knife and cut the fruit into small pieces. Remember that you should be very careful and it is quite dangerous to play with knives. After that, put the fruit into a big bowl and put some salad dressing on it. Use a spoon to mix the fruit and salad dressing together. Last, put the salad into the fridge and wait for some time. Soon, it will be ready to serve. OK. Let’s begin to make the salad. We have one hour and fifteen minutes. When you finish doing it, please don’t stay in the kitchen. You have to wait in the TV room until your parents arrive to pick you up.
A
定位至Hallstatt段,文章提到"take a relaxing walk along its old stone streets";Český Krumlov段也提到"a network of narrow, cobblestone lanes",这表明两者都有可供漫步的历史街道。
定位至Giethoorn段,文章明确指出“The village has no roads; instead, a system of calm canals connects the whole community. People move around using quiet boats...”,这表明其独特之处在于主要依靠运河交通。
解析: 根据第2段“I was feeling stuck in a cycle of part-time jobs and a predictable social routine. It was time for a shift.” B “To break a boring life pattern”(打破单调的生活模式)正是对此的同义转述,故选B。
解析: 根据第3段“There, I learned to care for the rescued horses—grooming them, mending fences, and preparing their feed.” 这些都属于“Looking after the rescued horses”(照顾被救助的马)的范畴,故选C。
解析: 该词出现在第3段“But life there felt raw and genuine.”
D “Volunteering can be a transformative journey of self-discovery.”
根据原文第二段 “Some titles have attracted over one billion topic views... sold more than 10 million copies... at least three new farming-simulation games are expected to launch” 可知,游戏的话题浏览量、销量数据及新作计划,均能体现其蓬勃发展的趋势。
作者既肯定了赛博种植游戏的心理价值(如第三段 “offering a form of leisure... beyond the pressures of real life”,缓解现实压力),又强调其文化意义(如最后一段 “rooted in ancient farming civilization”,传承农耕文明),整体态度为认可。
第三段:“offering a form of leisure and peacefulness beyond the pressures of real life”(提供一种休闲与宁静,摆脱现实压力)—— 直接肯定游戏的 “心理价值”,用 “peacefulness”(宁静)等正面词传递积极意义;
第三段:“virtual farming games give them real rewards, a feeling of being in control, and a safe place to explore life's possibilities”(给予真实回报、掌控感、探索生活可能的安全空间)—— 连续用三个积极维度描述游戏对玩家的益处,是明确的价值肯定;
第五段:引用学者观点 “allow young people to enjoy the conveniences of city life while mentally escaping the stress”(享受城市便利的同时缓解精神压力)—— 通过引用权威观点间接强化 “游戏有益” 的倾向,而非中立罗列;
最后一段:“still holds a strong appeal for today's youth”(对当代青年仍有强大吸引力)“a way to imagine a simpler, calmer, and more manageable life”(一种想象更简单、平静、可控生活的方式)—— 用 “strong appeal”(强大吸引力)“simpler, calmer”(更美好)等词,直接表达对游戏意义的肯定。
定位至文章第二段,其中明确提到“He proposes that AI companions could help break this cycle by allowing people to practice social skills and build confidence in a safe environment...”。
定位至第四段,Victor教授质疑AI连接能否真正有意义,原因是“they may lack the two-way interaction that defines human relationships”。
D “Here's what I've learned about the strange behaviors that command attention”(以下是我学到的能引起关注的奇特行为)起到承上启下的作用,引出下文对具体行为的介绍。
37. G解析:前文说 “they often end the conversation first”(他们经常先结束对话),选项 G “They leave when it’s at its peak and everyone is still energetic”(他们在对话达到顶峰、每个人都还很有活力的时候离开)进一步解释了这类人结束对话的时机,体现出违反直觉的特点(一般人会等到对话尴尬才结束,而他们在顶峰就结束),与前文逻辑连贯。
F “Try to answer soon to show you’re engaged.”(请尽快回复,以表明你很投入。)
38. B解析:该段讲述 “When someone asked me a question in a meeting, I took a full breath before answering. It felt uncomfortably long. Inside, I was hurrying to find an answer, but I stayed calm.”(当有人在会议上问我问题时,我深吸一口气才回答。 B “Be okay to make others wait”(可以让别人等待)能概括这一段的核心内容。
39. E解析:后文提到 “Focus on being honest rather than attacking others”(专注于诚实而不是攻击他人),也就是不必不友善。选项 E “You don’t have to be unkind”(你不必不友善)符合这一语境,起到过渡作用,引出后续关于诚实表达的内容。 C “You don’t have to be too straightforward”(你不必太直白),涉及表达的直白程度,而原文强调的是 “诚实但不刻薄(不友善)”,并非 “直白与否”,会干扰考生对 “表达态度(友善 / 诚实)” 的判断,需结合后文 “Focus on being honest rather than attacking others” 来排除。
40. A解析:前文说 “normal is forgettable and hides my true self”(常态是容易被遗忘的,并且掩盖了我的真实自我),后文说 “Being true to yourself matters more than fitting in”(做自己比融入更重要)。选项 A “Embrace being different, even if it brings you discomfort”(拥抱与众不同,即使它给你带来不适)体现了要敢于和 “常态” 不同,做自己,符合语境。
42.D解析:结合后文 “borrowing a suit and handing out treats to kids”(立刻借服装、给孩子发糖果)的行动可知,作者是 “立刻、马上”(instantly)同意的。
“competed with”(与…… 竞争)、“fought against”(与……
47.A解析:结合后文 “town committee began sponsoring it”(镇委员会开始赞助)、“a local man built a Christmas manger scene”(当地人搭建圣诞马槽场景)可知,“圣诞老人洞穴” 的规模在扩大,“expanded”(扩大;发展)精准体现这一变化,与 “获得赞助、新增场景” 的情节匹配。
“long - held idea” 后有定语从句 “that only humans were capable of making and using tools” 修饰,表特指,所以用定冠词 “the”。
“limit oneself to...”

Tired of the usual crowded tourist spots? Europe is home to many lesser-known towns that seem to come straight from the pages of a storybook. They offer a perfect escape into peace, history, and natural beauty. Let’s explore three such hidden treasures.
Hallstatt, Austria: A Lakeside Dream
Nestled between a quiet lake and towering mountains, Hallstatt looks like a picture from the past. Its lovely houses are perfectly reflected in the clear water. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, it attracts visitors who wish to explore the world’s oldest salt mine, visit its famous church, or simply take a relaxing walk along its old stone streets. The amazing views and peaceful feeling will make you believe you are in a real-life fairy tale.
Český Krumlov, Czech Republic: A Step Back in Time

The Vltava River flows gently through the town, making it ideal for a calm canoe trip. With its unique shops, cozy cafes, and medieval atmosphere, Český Krumlov offers an unforgettable experience, far from the busy crowds.
Giethoorn, Netherlands: The Quiet Venice
Known as the “Venice of the North,” Giethoorn provides a unique and peaceful experience. The village has no roads; instead, a system of calm canals connects the whole community. People move around using quiet boats, passing by traditional farmhouses and charming wooden bridges. Beautiful gardens and old footpaths complete the peaceful scene. It is the perfect place to escape modern noise, enjoy a boat tour, and experience a slower, more tranquil way of life.

There are calls we answer from deep within, without a fully formed reason. Two years ago, I left my hometown in Ohio for a volunteering program. I was feeling stuck in a cycle of part-time jobs and a predictable social routine. It was time for a shift. I found an opportunity on a small, family-run farm in the wide-open landscapes of Montana. In exchange for room and board, I would be helping with their horse sanctuary (马厩) and the veterans they hosted for horse therapy. And so I went, with just a single suitcase, ready to step into the unknown.
There, I learned to care for the rescued horses—grooming them, mending fences, and preparing their feed. Within a few weeks, I was appointed to coordinate (协调) the daily schedules for the small team of volunteers and the therapy sessions. After four months, I moved on, this time to a coastal community in Oregon to live with a retired couple. They offered a room and meals in return for help at their small sanctuary for sea birds affected by oil spills.
During both experiences, I had the freedom to explore stunning landscapes. In Montana, I drove through vast prairies (草原) and discovered hidden hot springs tucked away in the mountains. In Oregon, I hiked along the rugged Pacific coastline and visited Portland on my days off. Of course, there were challenges. I wasn’t used to the physical labor or the quiet isolation sometimes. But life there felt raw and genuine. It was a world away from the suburban life I had always known. Re-adjusting to my old routine after returning took me quite some time.
If you’re wondering if taking a leap into a volunteer year is worth it, despite the plans and expectations you might be leaving behind, I say: do it. Believe me, you will undoubtedly return changed, perhaps even shaped into a more resilient and aware version of yourself. With a bit of courage, you might just find a new direction for your life.
24. What was the main reason for the author to leave Ohio?
A. To escape from family pressure. B. To break a boring life pattern.
C. To receive professional career training. D. To fulfill an academic requirement.
25. What was the author’s primary responsibility on the Montana farm?
A. Organizing therapy sessions for veterans. B. Managing the farm’s financial accounts.
C. Looking after the rescued horses. D. Hosting volunteers from the city.
26. What does the word “raw” in paragraph 3 most likely mean?
A. Unprocessed and authentic. B. Unpleasant and harsh.
C. Exciting and unpredictable. D. Simple and undeveloped.
27. What is the main message the author wants to convey in the text?
A. Life in the American Midwest is more fulfilling.
B. Volunteering abroad is essential for personal growth.
C. Working with animals is the best way to find a new life direction.
D. Volunteering can be a transformative journey of self-discovery.
C
Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing and other titles are part of a growing genre(类型)of farming or life-simulation games(生活模拟游戏), where players plant crops, care for animals, and interact with virtual communities. Participants, often referred to as “digital farmers,” experience the satisfaction of seeing their efforts grow and develop in a controlled, low-pressure environment.
The cases reflect the growing popularity of cyber farming games. Some titles have attracted over one billion topic views within two years of release, while others sold more than 10 million copies in 2024 alone. According to Xinhua News Agency, a leading domestic game company leader revealed that at least three new farming-simulation games are expected to launch in China this year.
“Rising early to clear the weeds, returning home with a hoe(锄头)under the moonlight.” The pastoral imagery(田园意象)in Tao Yuanming, a famous Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420) poet, finds new life today in the virtual worlds of young players, offering a form of leisure and peacefulness beyond the pressures of real life. Many players deeply feel this sense of order and reward. Virtual farming games give them real rewards, a feeling of being in control, and a safe place to try different life possibilities.
Xu Youjiangyu, a PhD candidate at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times that these games allow young people to enjoy the conveniences of city life while mentally escaping the stress of urban routines.
The rise of “cyber farming” shows that pastoral imagery, rooted in ancient farming civilization, still holds a strong appeal for today’s youth. For enthusiastic players, farming is no longer seen as outdated, backward, or small-minded, but as a way to imagine a simpler, calmer, and more manageable life.
28. Which is true about cyber farming games according to the text?
A. All such games in China have sold over 10 million copies.
B. Their popularity is only in the domestic market.
C. Topic views and sales show their booming trend.
D. Only three new ones will launch in China this year.
29. What does the author imply by mentioning Tao Yuanming’s pastoral imagery?
A. Young people have given up traditional farming culture.
B. Cyber farming games reinterpret ancient farming ideals.
C. Eastern Jin literary works are popular among gamers.
D. Traditional pastoral life is more attractive than virtual farming.
30. What is the author’s attitude towards cyber farming games?
A. Approving B. Critical C. Neutral D. Doubtful
31. What is the best title for the passage?
A. The Rise and Meaning of Cyber Farming Games
B. Young People and Their Virtual Farming Hobbies
C. From Tao Yuanming to Modern Digital Gardens
D. How Video Games Shape New Social Trends
D
While science fiction often warns of the dangers of forming relationships with artificial intelligence(AI), some researchers suggest we should consider its potential benefits in addressing human loneliness. Tony Prescott, a professor of cognitive robotics, argues that AI could serve as a valuable tool for those at risk of social isolation.
Prescott describes human loneliness as a “downward spiral”(螺旋式下降)where isolation leads to lower self-esteem, discouraging further social interaction. He proposes that AI companions could help break this cycle by allowing people to practice social skills and build confidence in a safe environment, thus preventing them from withdrawing from society entirely.
The scale of the loneliness problem is significant. Known as a serious public health issue, chronic(长期)loneliness is linked to increased risks of heart disease, dementia(痴呆), depression, and premature death. In the UK, millions report experiencing it often or always, with similar findings in the US.
However, whether AI can or should be part of the solution is debated. Critics like Professor Christina Victor, a social scientist specializing in human connections, question whether AI connections can be truly meaningful, as they may lack the two-way interaction that defines human relationships. Others, like Professor Murali Doraiswamy, a brain health specialist at Duke University, acknowledge that while human friendship is ideal, AI might be a necessary solution for the millions who have no friends.
Prescott readily admits that AIs cannot provide friendship in the same way humans do but argues that not all valuable relationships are two-way. The debate continues as technology advances, with companies already developing more emotionally responsive chatbots, indicating that society may be moving toward a future where human-machine companionship becomes commonplace.
32. What is the primary function of AI companions in Prescott’s proposal?
A. To replace human friends completely. B. To treat serious mental health issues.
C. To encourage people to stay alone. D. To offer a safe space for social training.
33. Why does the author list various diseases in Paragraph 3?
A. To illustrate why loneliness is a serious public health issue.
B. To compare the main causes of death in different countries.
C. To suggest that physical health is more important than mental health.
D. To explain the biological mechanism behind feelings of loneliness.
34. What is Professor Christina Victor’s main concern regarding AI relationships?
A. Their lack of emotional response. B. Their high cost and inaccessibility.
C. Their absence of mutual interaction. D. Their inability to offer basic friendship.
35. Which of the following best summarizes the main idea of the passage?
A. The serious global health risks caused by chronic loneliness.
B. The debate on using AI to fight against human loneliness.
C. The technological race in developing empathetic chatbots.
D. The irreplaceable role of human friendship in society.
I used to struggle to make sense of attraction and found people weird. Over time, I learned many attractive behaviors are counterintuitive(违反直觉的)—they seem odd at first glance. It took me years of observing and trying to figure out people to see this. When I finally saw it, I couldn’t unsee it. 36
Walk away when others lean in. Most people tend to keep conversations going until the atmosphere turns awkward. They linger around, hang on, and try their best to extend the talk. But I’ve noticed something interesting about those everyone wants to chat with: they often end the conversation first. 37 It seems counterintuitive until you realize that rarity(稀有) creates value.
38 When someone asked me a question in a meeting, I took a full breath before answering. It felt uncomfortably long. Inside, I was hurrying to find an answer, but I stayed calm. Then everyone leaned in closer. Answers given in a rush seem to lose their value.
Point out the obvious uncomfortable truth. While everyone else avoids talking about uncomfortable truths carefully, there’s great power in being the one who calmly says what everyone is thinking. 39 Focus on being honest rather than attacking others. That way, no one can say you were wrong to speak up. Say it calmly and directly, making others wonder why they feared mentioning it.
Let awkward moments stay awkward. When an awkward moment comes, most people hurry to fill the silence, make things better, and pretend it never happened. But those rare few who can sit comfortably through awkwardness? They have a special kind of power. They make others wonder how you can be so unusually calm.
The most attractive people aren’t afraid to break the unspoken rule that says “Fix embarrassing moments right away!” I often slip back into old habits from society, in a usual, safe and normal way. But I remember: normal is forgettable and hides my true self. 40 Being true to yourself matters more than fitting in.
A. Embrace being different, even if it brings you discomfort.
B. Be okay to make others wait.
C. You don’t have to be too straightforward.
D. Here’s what I’ve learned about the strange behaviors that command attention.
E. You don’t have to be unkind.
F. Try to answer soon to show you’re engaged.
G. They leave when it’s at its peak and everyone is still energetic.

Jane Goodall, one of the world’s most renowned ethologists(动物学家),was born in England in 1934. Her profound love for animals took root at a tender age—she even kept a pet chimpanzee toy as a child, which sparked her deep 56 (curious) about these highly intelligent creatures.
In 1960, at the age of 26, Goodall embarked on a journey to Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania 57 she set out to study wild chimpanzees, a challenging task that no one had undertaken on a long-term basis before. For over 60 years, she observed their daily lives with great attentiveness: how they skillfully built nests, 58 (gentle) cared for their young, and cooperatively worked together in groups. Her most significant discovery sent shockwaves through the scientific community—she found that chimpanzees employ tools, like sticks, 59 (fetch) insects from trees.
Ten-year-old Liam stood anxiously by the fence of the community garden, watching as Mr. Ortiz, the elderly groundskeeper, slowly tended to the flower beds. A wave of relief washed over him; the garden hadn’t closed for good. Just a week ago, he’d found the gate locked, a note pinned to it saying that Mr. Ortiz had taken a bad fall and needed rest. Liam had been terribly worried, fearing his secret plan to surprise his grandmother would be ruined if the garden remained inaccessible.
Mr. Ortiz, a kindly man in his seventies, spotted Liam and waved him over. Encouraged, Liam approached and shyly expressed his wish to help out in the garden. A soft chuckle escaped Mr. Ortiz, amused by the young boy’s serious request. Liam, however, spoke with earnest determination. He explained that his grandmother, who now lived with them, often spoke with a sigh about the grand rose garden she’d left behind at her old house. For her upcoming birthday, he didn’t want a bought gift; he wanted to grow her a perfect rose, something truly personal. He believed in earning meaningful things, a lesson his grandmother had always taught him.
Deeply impressed by the boy’s maturity and motive, Mr. Ortiz’s heart softened. He agreed to accept Liam as his helper. “Do you know the difference between a seedling and a weed?”he asked. When Liam nodded confidently, they got to work. For the next several afternoons, Liam worked devotedly, weeding, watering, and learning about soil. His presence was a bright spot for Mr. Ortiz, turning a task into a shared joy. Neighbors, charmed by the sight of the diligent boy, often paused for conversation, bringing a new vibrancy to the community space.
On Liam’s final day of work, a bittersweet feeling settled over Mr. Ortiz. Their time together had formed a quick but genuine bond. As he carefully selected and cut the most beautiful rose from the bush, his vision blurred with unexpected tears. He invited Liam to come back and visit the garden whenever he wished. Liam, equally fond of the old man, promised he would bring his grandmother by to meet him soon.
注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右;
With the rose carefully in hand, Liam hurried home to surprise his grandma.
